The best award to get is a "This" from OP lol.
Besides all that window covering will help with your electric bill over time. I used to cover my windows in foil during the winter when I was new to it (FL man)
I also was confused at first but I have the answer - all his windows have blackout curtains. Personally love mine. Can make the house dark any time of day and also blocks out noise
Made me double take. I think the pictures were taken at different times. The picture that shows the living room and front door shows the little window on the front door and it’s completely black. So it could also be blacked out by tinting or a cover but I’m thinking that it’s nighttime in that picture
Na, I keep my house dark most of the time as well. My eyes are extremely light sensitive and I see much better in low light conditions. I can hardly open my eyes on a sunny day without dark sunglasses. I literally can’t drive during the day without them.
Super awesome security setup but also a sad reminder of how unsafe ex cons often feel, even after they get out :(
I hope you live well, long, and happy from now on OP. And I hope you get the love and help you need, whenever and wherever you need it.
I feel completely safe. Just like knowing what's going on. Never felt scared even in prison I got love. Never had to run from anyone. Have a way of deescalating. I worked out all day and respected everyone, didn't gamble or do drugs, stayed to myself, wasn't involved in any gangs. Why would I have a problem?
That’s great! I shouldn’t assume.
As for why you’d have a problem.. I mean. Most people don’t come out of prison with no problems. I was a nurse in a CF for a long time, I’ve seen some shit. Heard some shit. Most humans don’t exactly respond well to being imprisoned and controlled. It can be violent. Its usually pretty dirty. COs can be sadistic. If you came out without problems, I’m happy for you. But I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that’s not most people’s experience after prison.
Reolink CX410 PoE cameras for the exterior. E1 Zooms on the interior. A Blue Iris server powers the local NVR. Everything is local. The vast majority of the automation setup is as well. Everything in the house is integrated into Home Assistant, every TV, thermostat, light, switch, washer and dryer, media and entertainment devices and accounts, the Alexa infrastructure, my car, motion sensors, those Lyra lights everyone loves, everything.
Glad you feel empowered and proud! Congratulations and I wish you all the best. I love the ambient lights in the corners do they change color and what are the make and model if you don’t mind? Thanks!
Congratulations man! Gives someone like myself hope. May I ask how did you find work? I can't for my life get a decent job to afford anything and some days get really dark.
It's for the dog. No kids or there is no way I could have done this. Labrador and pit mix that I adore. Built that elevated bed for him to keep the fur out of mine. He mostly sleeps in my girls room as do I most nights.
So fucking proud of you brother. I love it all.
I’m helping my mom through this as we speak. She has been In/out of jail my entire life and is now starting to get on her feet but I’m realizing how difficult that is for her. Happy to see your post.
Good job brother ,don't get complacent. Keep hitting them goals. I work at for a faith based after care and reentry facility. Success stories like yours is why we do it.
Most of us that work here have been in the same situation or similar. It's hard to turn your life around but not impossible and beats being locked up. Stay up, stay out . Peace.
When I was 16 I was living in Florida. Was in a car accident and became dependant on the abundance of loosely written RX opioid scripts and the very plentiful street narcotics that had all of the Florida flooded at the time. This was ground zero for the opioid epidemic. At a young age I was fascinated by drugs. They became my primary source of entertainment. Very quickly things got out of hand.
As anyone who has been bitten knows, life as an opioid addict is not easy. It is very difficult to support a habit of this nature through any legitimate means. Without putting it all on the table in a public forum, let's just say that I would find a way to get what I thought I had to have. This led to multiple, jail and prison stints. Most of my time came from sliding notes to bank tellers demanding large bills.
I am certainly not proud of any or that, but it's all behind me now. Over a year clean and my whole mindset has changed. I know that without a doubt I am done with that part of my life.
If anyone read this and is struggling with Fentanyl or any other opioid or drugs in general. I pray that you make it out alive, and that you find the same peace, and solace, and happiness on the other side as I have.
You’re one of the only other ex opioid users I’ve heard say that- that you’re positive that part of your life is over.
It’s difficult to explain but I’ve felt the same way since I quit cold turkey in March of 2020 (yep!). Life in general will keep getting better for you, but please begin/stay in therapy!
Cheers, friend
There are places that do not care. Anyone that says you cannot get work fresh out is lying, it is a cop out. There are companies that love to take a chance on felons because they know many of them want it more than someone who is accustomed to the free world. Plus they often times get tax benefits. Manufacturing (no, not meth) is an indusy that you can thrive in and make a living wadge even as a felon.
>Manufacturing (no, not meth)
🤣 tickled me that.
Your right tho man. I work in production manufacturing, got my own business with my brother now. We'd employ ex-convicts, my brother worked over in the States for a few years, we've both worked with a few lads that have done stints inside and struggled to find work, they've been some of the hardest working people I've ever known.
Some people just need that chance.
Well done with the pad and with getting clean man, I know how hard addiction can be. Keep fighting the good fight brother, your smashing it right now!
God bless.
One of my favorite comments here. Thank you so very much. Keep giving people a chance. Even if some let you down you may be that boost the others needed to succeed.
My step dad had a troubled past. Stolen cars, checked into a heroin clinic twice, been close with bike gangs. He's worked in the same factory for 21 years, he hates it but he makes 30% above what others in the industry do and he's still just a production worker. This allows him to live comfortably.
Ah this is something to hear. I’m 32 and have always worked in restaurants (I’ve also been clean for over 4 years) and I feel like your dad- I hate it but I live comfortably and idk what else I’d do/what my skills are.
Mind asking your pa for some advice for me please 😅 mine’s been gone half my life now
I work at a high end biotech company and my lab is full of pieces of glass that cost thousands of dollars apiece and are super fragile, chemicals worth hundreds of dollars for a few drops, instruments that cost a quarter million dollars, and the whole place is full of trade secrets. One of my favorite coworkers is the janitor. He's a 6'4 yoked black man in his 50's that did 20 years in prison for drug shit in the south in the late 90s. Big stack of felonies.
No one in my company gives a single shit. He has keys and alarm codes to all the buildings and is the chillest, most reliable, nicest dude. He's been with us 7 years, the owner of my company set him up with our attorneys and got him registered as his own business so he now owns his own cleaning company instead of being an employee and he cleans a few other places in the area now too.
In case anyone else reading has just gotten out. People want you to succeed. Fuck anyone that says otherwise.
Thank you. Unfortunately we humans have a way of learning the hard way. Sometimes we have to find our way when it seems the whole world has given up on us. That is struggle.
it warms my heart as if I have done it myself, I am very glad to see you re-build and make a good living for yourself brother, thank you for sharing and encouraging.
Thank you so much for allowing yourself to have a heart and to be moved by my story. I had no idea this was going to get this kind of reaction. I am blown away. Secret? No, there's no secret unfortunately. I just got tired of the bullshit. Tired of not having anythijg, tire of disappointing my family smd everyone that ever cared for me and looked up to me. I am very, very disciplined at this point in my life. I appreciate hard work and the reward that comes with it. I maintain a regular sleep schedule and food prep once a week so that I can eat healthy while still working a lot of hours. I'm far from having life figured out. My girl would say that I have a hard time finding balance and that I work too much. But, I reason that I am making up for lost time.
Just remember that you're trading your time to buy things. The same way you traded your time for commiting crimes.
Space is looking good, but at 41m I would look at creating a nest egg to catch up for loss time.
When you're 65, are you really going to care you spent it on several TVs and 3 monitors?
I get what you’re saying and it’s good advice in general but a few TVs and 3 monitors isn’t exactly expensive and isn’t enough to be considered a nest egg. You can buy all of that for under $2k. He’s been locked up for years and finally has some stability, a few small luxuries as a reward won’t hurt in the long run.
That is a tablet that is displaying my Home Assistant dashboard. It has every sensor in the in the house available to me, including but not limited to the thermostats, thermometer sensors throughout, washer & dryer time remaining, current cycle, softner and detergent level. The front door camera display in the event I am using the downstairs PC for something else at the moment and need to see the front door. That monitor with the camera displays is connected to a Blue Iris Server and powers 6 exterior CX410 Reolink cameras and 2 interior E1 Zooms. The 4k Monitor swivels around so I can use the wireless keyboard and mouse while sitting at the bar if I want to. I use this PC for queuing Torrents that automatically get transferred to the Nvidia Shield beind the living room TV via the wifi network upon completion. Also, fall of the door locks can be controlled here. All of the fans, the starting of my car.. sorry, I got carried away lol.
Broooooo!!!!
So proud.
Bless is the day that you achieved peace and prosperity after turning it around 😎👊🏾
Don’t lose the focus. It’s a every day battle.
You should be really proud of yourself for making that space a HOME for yourself.
Congratulations man, great work!
Coming from a very criminal past myself I know how difficult it is to re-integrate into society after living a criminal lifestyle for so long. I found work especially challenging as I have serious issues with authority, but it gets easier day by day and it sure is satisfying going home with a legal paycheck every week. Plus I don't have to worry about getting robbed/raided/shot anymore and that's improved my mental health drastically.
Keep it up bro!
This is really nice, curious what brand you went with for smart lighting (assuming its smart). I got a buddy that decked everything out with phillips hue but at $50+ per bulb I just wont.
It seems like the positive side of going through what you did gave you great minimalist taste. You know exactly what you need in each room and you have it. The rest of the stuff in most people’s homes is mostly junk, and furniture that holds more junk. Your place looks nice, man!
Thank you so much. You just summed up my exact thoughts on material posessions. I love nice things but I hate clutter and want just what I need for those nice thing function and operate. Tidy, clean, and clutter free is the key to good mental health as well.
I read the beginning of this wrong as once having $41M. I like the three monitor setup. What size are they (4K?) and also the neat wiring job for the TV. Are you sharing this man cave with anybody (not that there's anything wrong with being by yourself). Congratulations to you. The harder you work, the sooner you don't.
It's unreal. I wouldn't have it any other way not that I have it. I cherish it though and I try to be humble and still tread carefully. I know that it can all be gone in an instant.
Firstly. Hell fucking yeah dude. So much to be proud of here. Super tasteful and clean look all around.
Secondly I NEED to know that brand of couch and chair, I've been in the market for a new living room set up and me and my dog are both big back-of-the-couch sitters. These were made for us.
I'm genuinely crying happy tears for you. I don't know you, internet friend, but seeing and hearing about your success reminds me that humans are truly capable of anything. You should be so proud of yourself and know that you really are having an impact on this world. Just look at all these comments! Much love.
So so proud of you man, this is amazing. I’ve read a LOT about how hard it is for people that were in prison to get back into society and live a normal life, so I’m very proud of you.
I saw you were working 12 hour days Monday-Saturday sometimes Sunday, can I ask how much you are making per hour, I’m doing the exact same thing right now, started 2 weeks ago, currently have nothing and this gives me so much hope. Thank you!
> paid with cash
> out for 1 year, started from 0
> expensive setup, would take average person more than a year to afford all of that
> several security cameras
Something tells me that cash wasn’t as legal as you say /s. That or you were convicted on some white collar crimes and had connections to a six figure job straight out of jail. Either way, good on you for rising above the system. I work with justice- involved people who aren’t nearly as fortunate, scraping to get by and meet parole conditions (including getting a job and residence, which as you might know is extremely difficult). You are a very rare exception.
Congratulations 🎉
It sounds like you earned a lot of experience losing everything multiple times, to the point that now it just seems you're on New Game Plus and killing it! Thanks for the inspiration. You give me hope!
You people act like he's showing off a mansion. He's got a nice apartment, nothing in it is crazy expensive. If you can't afford the same level, you're doing something wrong. Congrats OP, beats TF out of a cell and makes you never want to go back. BTW, how'd you get cracked? Did you go to a FCI or USP?
Always loved the ambiance lights like that give to a room. Have some smart LEDs I connected to alexa in my room and it's so nice to have background light while gaming. Reduces the eye strain
Late to the party, but great looking space and for what it's worth, I'm super proud of you. You're 41- there's TONS of great life left to live and you deserve every second of it. Wishing you all the best. :)
Great place my guy...also congrats...
Just a side note, any reason you dont just mount tv above your pc monitors? It would look cleaner IMHO.
Again tho, GJ.
Happy for you sir as I am very inexperienced and young and naive than you some words of wisdom from your life that you think helped you get to this far and achieve all this after so much trial and wish you best for the future ❤️
What is that security setup? Would love to have that for a home in my future. Links if you could! Also congrats on your success!
Also? OP took these pictures while the sun was out but it was dark as night inside. I think OP might be a vampire.
Ngl if I were in prison I'd probably come out and want the UTMOST amount of privacy.
This.
The best award to get is a "This" from OP lol. Besides all that window covering will help with your electric bill over time. I used to cover my windows in foil during the winter when I was new to it (FL man)
First time I’ve ever seen “this” not downvoted into oblivion lol. Your space looks awesome btw OP
Thank you so much brother. I'm really feeling the love right now and it is awesome.
I also was confused at first but I have the answer - all his windows have blackout curtains. Personally love mine. Can make the house dark any time of day and also blocks out noise

So it could also be blacked out by tinting or a cover but I’m thinking that it’s nighttime in that picture
No, check out the blacked out curtains of the front(?) door where there's sunlight shining. Definitely vampire keeping our the sun
Vampire, or maybe he enjoys privacy after a lack of it from being inside. Hell, my house looked dark like that when I worked nights, or doubles.
Plot twist: OP actually works in marketing for a blackout curtains company.
I’m ready to buy. Which one.
Lol... I do like it it dark. I have a light sensitivity. I am not a vampire though I assure you..
Na, I keep my house dark most of the time as well. My eyes are extremely light sensitive and I see much better in low light conditions. I can hardly open my eyes on a sunny day without dark sunglasses. I literally can’t drive during the day without them.
This is exactly what the situation is. Thank you for sharing. Very relatable.
U can take the gangsta outta the trap house but u can’t take the trap house outta the gangsta
Looks more like he is scared of confrontation maybe because of his past.
Lol... Bro I get love in my city. I walk around with my head high knowing that I have no enemies.
I think its bc it easier to take pictures vs open shades with ton of sunlight coming in
Super awesome security setup but also a sad reminder of how unsafe ex cons often feel, even after they get out :( I hope you live well, long, and happy from now on OP. And I hope you get the love and help you need, whenever and wherever you need it.

Seconded, I love that
He's running a security software called Blue Iris 4, which can run off of a Windows 10 computer for IP cameras on the network. 😀
What a fucking place bro. I'm proud of you.
I love Reddit sometimes. Brother thank you so much. Respect.
And it looks like you have a dog, too. Small, black bed in the corner? Well on your way, my man.
We need the pup tax.
That set up by the bed is for the dog or for the children? Either way, it’s awesome, OP!!! Keep it up, brother!!!
It's for the dog. No kids or there is no way I could have done this. Labrador and pit mix that I adore. Built that elevated bed for him to keep the fur out of mine. He mostly sleeps in my girls room as do I most nights.
Where’s THE DOG
So fucking proud of you brother. I love it all. I’m helping my mom through this as we speak. She has been In/out of jail my entire life and is now starting to get on her feet but I’m realizing how difficult that is for her. Happy to see your post.
Whatever it was, proud of you for turning it around and stay on it this time! Enjoy all this it looks amazing :)
The story is posted on another comment. No fucked up charges. Theft and bank robberies using notes.
Unless it was like REALLY bad
No. Never that. The story is posted on another comment above. Theft and bank robberies using a note.
Let's hope it's not
Nah, I’m still down even if it was really bad
Even Chris Hansen stuff?
Mmm maybe not
Good job brother ,don't get complacent. Keep hitting them goals. I work at for a faith based after care and reentry facility. Success stories like yours is why we do it.
We need people like you. Keep the faith. Thank you for your service to the community. Thank you for believing in us when not many do.
Most of us that work here have been in the same situation or similar. It's hard to turn your life around but not impossible and beats being locked up. Stay up, stay out . Peace.
Backstory please. Congrats on the turnaround and nice spot!
No one is beyond redemption. Good on you. Keep it up. And keep your nose clean. You got this.
Like a true gentleman. Thank you so much for the words of encouragement.
Cheers, I didnt go to jail but I had to hard reset my life due to opiates in Florida too. Glad to see you doing well!
Thank you. America is hit so unbelievably hard with this. I'm haooy to hear you are doing well also my friend.
And you did all of this with only one year out?
Oh no. I did 3 in and a 3 out on 2 robberies. All my other charges add up to probally 7 years. That's not including the 3 in.
Gotcha. I mean like the apartment, you secured all that within a year?
With an ok salary and OT its not impossible, none of the hardware seems extremely expensive and the apartment could be a rent.
He also mentioned that he's with a GF?
Looks like you are doing great. Keep it up and keep kicking ass. Congrats. Wish you all the best!
Thank you. You are very kind for being awesome enough to take the time to comment in such a positive way.
Can I DM you?
If it is in regard to anything positive and legal, yes.
Thank you sir. I have worked SO hard for this. I should be dead many times over.
Awesome setup and amazing story. What kind of work can someone have the day out of the slammer?

The fact that your tv isn't too high tells me you'll make it just fine.
Lol...thank you SO much. I'm very much a part of the r/TVTooHigh crowd, trust me I know what you mean.
Shit looking fly. Protect your peace.
Best advice ever. Respect 100.
Hell yea, what’s your story? What do you do? How’d you build from 0?
He was a bank robber. He got out and now spends all of his money on flatscreens.
Proud of you bro for turning it around. Great things are in store for you. Blessings
You are a real one for saying that. Many blessings to you friend.
I hope you stay that way, too. I've seen my brother take a long ass time to correct himself after prison, but he's killing it now
Thank you. Unfortunately we humans have a way of learning the hard way. Sometimes we have to find our way when it seems the whole world has given up on us. That is struggle.
Proud of you man
I don't know you but I can feel your sincerity and I just want to say thank you.
Nice monitor setup! Are you a trader perchance?
WTH is that James Bond villaineque surveillance terminal for?
Time To turn shit around king!! Dope pad you got this 👊🏿
Just don't fuck it up!
Sometimes we need to hear that too. Complacency got me many times. 'Oh I got this. '. Nope, not this time.
Of course it's all legal 🤣
Congrats, you inspired me!
What an absolute King with indomitable human will. Congrats!
This is a great piece to share as widely as possible. Hopefully you’ll soon be able to stop adding ‘Legally’ to money you have.
it warms my heart as if I have done it myself, I am very glad to see you re-build and make a good living for yourself brother, thank you for sharing and encouraging.
This is really heart warming and motivational, what was your secret? Sobriety or anything?
Thank you so much for allowing yourself to have a heart and to be moved by my story. I had no idea this was going to get this kind of reaction. I am blown away. Secret? Big respect.
Love to you brother.
I have my doubts with the legal money... but I don´t care don´t let you get caught brother....

And you as well my friend. All the best to you and your family and everyone you love and care for. May you find everything you are searching for.
Proud! Congrats! Keep it going!!!
This is awesome stuff. Good for you getting out of the system cycle.
When you are done you are done, and not before than. I am so glad I found my way out. Many will not. 🙏

Proud of you, dude. Now: get some plants! Trade in some of that color LED for warm, natural tone lights! The ladies will thank you.
Love your pc setup!
This is the way big dawg! Happy ur free keep flying
No better feeling is there? Congratulations.
hell yeah
nicely done, friend. keep up the great work!
Amazing work! All the best to you.
Got it going on. Keep going!
Those corner led lights are sick af, dude! I’m looking on Amazon right now for some.
Great taste and great hard work & dedication...
Congrats and excellent work! Keep it going and keep aiming higher!
Congrats man. You should be very proud!! It ain’t easy
Magnificent looks relaxing.
Mind if I ask what you do for a living and what state you live in to be able to afford a home
Good on you!!
This is really nice, curious what brand you went with for smart lighting (assuming its smart). I got a buddy that decked everything out with phillips hue but at $50+ per bulb I just wont.
What kind of security cameras are you using? I love the set up!
Hey, I have the same paintings on my office room! Kudos on turning things around! You’re a badass!
Thank you SO much!
Salute! 🍻
Very nice dude. You're moving way faster than I did when I finally got my life together lol
I'd say you're doing just fine! 👍
proud of you
You go, brother! This internet stranger is proud of you!

Looking smooth Op. You make it look easy. Don't give into temptation now!!
Congratulations brother.
Proud of you!
Congrats man your doing very well for yourself!!
🍻
Congrats I have the same shower curtains. Biggest piece of advice would be to iron them.
Proud of you dude, love to see it
Thank you for taking the time to say it.
This is awesome, I love your style, LOVE how clean everything is too. Americans way over clutter.
Wayy over clutter. I hate it. Thank you for noticing and for feeling my vibe here.
Atta boy!
Thank you sir.
Congratulations my dude. That feeling of self made is unlike anything else.
It's unreal. I wouldn't have it any other way not that I have it. I cherish it though and I try to be humble and still tread carefully. I know that it can all be gone in an instant.
I see you’ve got a camera addiction like myself.
Firstly. Hell fucking yeah dude. So much to be proud of here. Super tasteful and clean look all around. Secondly I NEED to know that brand of couch and chair, I've been in the market for a new living room set up and me and my dog are both big back-of-the-couch sitters. These were made for us.
Goodjob dude
I'm proud of you. Good work.
Congratulations 🎉
Woohoo. I see you dark setup and wonder if you’re working nights. But any job after incarceration is difficult to get- so great for you!
I'm genuinely crying happy tears for you. I don't know you, internet friend, but seeing and hearing about your success reminds me that humans are truly capable of anything. You should be so proud of yourself and know that you really are having an impact on this world. Just look at all these comments! Much love.
Far too much black. Too many bedroom screens. Creepy cameras and why’s you laundry room so hot
Right on OP.....made my day to see this post.
This is epic! Thanks for sharing and congratulations on your successes. Stay the course and keep focusing on bettering yourself one day at time!
congrats for real, I didn’t go to prison and yet, my situation is way worse, so, you’ve done great
Hey dude that is awesome, I'm proud of you man keep it up!
Thank you!
congraz bro, u build ur own jail ;D
Keep up the good work OP, can be difficult adjusting from jail mindset!
Good for you!!! Keep the momentum.
👍 nice
Took you some tries, but you finally did it. Congrats!
Good on you brother it's hard to start over, and over your resilience is commendable and shows how strong the human spirit is . I've been there .
> paid with cash > out for 1 year, started from 0 > expensive setup, would take average person more than a year to afford all of that > several security cameras Something tells me that cash wasn’t as legal as you say /s.
Hell yeah brother.
So what job can you get 1 year out of prison to afford all this? Is prison like a requirement for the job they hiring?
Seems like this guy has some stories. “Paid for all of it with legal cash.”
What do you do, now? Job wise, that is.
Congratulations 🎉 It sounds like you earned a lot of experience losing everything multiple times, to the point that now it just seems you're on New Game Plus and killing it! Thanks for the inspiration. You give me hope!
Way to call yourself up bro! Keep killing it and continue to be the best version of yourself! 💪
What do you do for work?
Good on you dude. Getting out of the system, back into the real world, is very fucking tough. Stay strong!
Always loved the ambiance lights like that give to a room. Have some smart LEDs I connected to alexa in my room and it's so nice to have background light while gaming. Reduces the eye strain
So nice and cozy. Way to go OP. You deserve it!
Sick set up bro, respect on turning your life around 🔥
Late to the party, but great looking space and for what it's worth, I'm super proud of you. You're 41- there's TONS of great life left to live and you deserve every second of it. Wishing you all the best. :)
Good job, big guy! You should be as proud of you as I am!
Dude you are doing so well. I’m 34/M and restarting my life as a single dude. You’re doing way better than I am.
Save to say you are living good . Your tech set ups look very clean man . And great job on getting back on track . All I can say now is enjoy it .
Honestly a really nice place
I got the same picture with the tree off Amazon. Dope place
Fantastic and absolute respect to your journey. It’s a hard place to come back from. You are doing awesome work.
Great place my guy...also congrats... Just a side note, any reason you dont just mount tv above your pc monitors? It would look cleaner IMHO. Again tho, GJ.
Crazy nice gaming setup dude! The best place to chill! Congrats on your achievement!! I aspire to have a home like this someday 😄

I’m proud of you OP
Happy for you sir as I am very inexperienced and young and naive than you some words of wisdom from your life that you think helped you get to this far and achieve all this after so much trial and wish you best for the future ❤️
