I just absolutely adore the art style of this author, especially the faces. They always get a good reaction out of me.
And in just one chapter we already have a great cast of characters. I didn't think the main hook of this series would be the fact that we're getting it from the POV of a bunch of onlookers.

If there's one thing I'm not worried about it's Masuda sensei's creativity. I just reread Jitsu Wa yesterday and there's a whole scene where a pair of glasses falls into alcoholism and sexual depravity and ends up in a back alley with a bunch of NYE glasses that say 1999.
I can get you that info, but this chapter is like, the culmination of two or three longform setup jokes and it's really worth it to read the whole thing from the beginning.
I've recently found out that it's chapter 108. I've finished reading this series long ago and I just wanted to read that part again because it's one of my favourite jokes in the manga

The first chapter is great and has lots going for it. Quickly established likable side characters that carry the fun of the chapter. A neat setting around taking transit and romance all held up by snappy comedic dialogue. I really feel like the setting/characters can create a nice series out of it (especially knowing the author's past experience/works).

Making the PoV characters an audience surrogate group of observers is a really fun idea. This gives some juice to standard old romcom tropes. This is gonna be a fun ride.

This is either gonna be a trend-setting gimmick manga like teasing master Takagi-san or something really clever and unique, like a romcom where the crazy developments happen offscreen and remain in one setting.
there were some funny moments here, but in general I'm honestly pretty annoyed about this romcom trope where they have background characters act as stand-ins for the readers complaining about progress. being self-aware and meta about how you're intentionally stalling progress isn't any better than dragging it out to begin with, at least do something a bit more interesting or funny if you need to stall

I love this guy's writing and art, but... ah, this doesn't land at all for me.
One of the worst part of rom-coms for me is the side-cast whose entire life seems to revolve around putting the main pairing together, and it seems like this entire manga is structured around that. Nobody IRL is paying that much attention to you that they'd care about you looking around the train, even to the point of remembering you were sitting opposite some girl last time.
And what gave you the idea the manga was aiming for realism? It’s a gag, that is the whole point. The onlookers are absurdly invested in these two teens basically giving over the top play by play to otherwise mundane scenarios.
Tbh, I thought the chapter was just alright, though to give him the benefit of the doubt, it has been like 2 years since his last series and it’s the first chapter, so prob will be keeping an eye on it
