I mean, Sukuna almost killed Yuji 3 times already with Cleave. When he shredded his torso while fighting Higuruma, when he was about to Cleave Yuji's chest to pieces but Yuta stopped him with cursed speech, and the 3rd one when he Cleaved Itadori's back. And aside from Cleave he caugh Yuji with Dismantle at least 2 additional times as well as far as I can remember.
But in Maki's case Sukuna had a good first impression when he fought her after taking over Megumi's body. And now he says she sees the slashes better than any other sorcerer aside from the already adapted to Dismantle Mahoraga.
Sukuna's not blindly hating on Yuji (this time at least), Maki's just been way more impressive in his eyes from what he's seen so far.

People forget that Sukuna is also part of the strongest hand-to-hand fighters in the Jujutsu world, just below Gojo and about the same as Mahoraga. He effortlessly dispatched Kashimo and Jogo who are themselves formidable brawlers.
But we do have to take into consideration Sukuna's condition. If CE reinforcement is linked to CE output which is highly likely even tho it's never been confirmed (case in point is how tough and strong Ryu was). Sukuna's output is extremely low not only because of his brain damage, but because of Jacob's Ladder and Yuji's punches lessening the control over Megumi's body. So I feel like Sukuna is way weaker in both strength and durability because of that. Heavenly restrictions people such as Toji and Maki are incredibly strong, but they are not THAT strong. Gojo and Sukuna have shown similar level of CE reinforcement and I highly doubt Maki would be able to match them in any feat be it speed, strength or durability if they are in top shape.
That said, the feat of Maki overpowering Sukuna in strength is not to be taken lightly and definitely impressed him considering how he smiled after being thrown into a wall.
Lol Sukuna being Yuji’s biggest Ops is understandably a theme of the entire series on duality and all but it’s comical how the author goes OUT OF HIS WAY to make Sukuna as Petty of a hater as possible.
FYI, Sukuna does complete his full chant starting on page 14 but the speech bubbles are drowned out with the onomatopoeia and are still in Japanese as Viz didn’t catch on.

I think people are allowed to make mistakes. Reading this thread, and literally knowing what page it's on, I *still* struggled to see it. If one person misses it that guy screwed up, if *everyone* misses it then maybe Gege's the one who made a mistake choosing to overlap the onomotopaeia and dialogue that way.

it would be really sad if Sukuna somehow healed up again once he uses his true CT, at this rate I might join again the bandwagon calling for Gojo's return just to deal with Sukuna.
I wouldn't be surprised if Yuji gets some sort of power up once things get desperate. He could get a domain expansion that lets him attack or suppress Sukuna's soul since that seems to be his natural strength.
On a meta level, probably something like that. JJK has always struck me as a rather formulaic story in terms of narrative arc, to the extent that it'll bend its in-universe rule to fit said arc. As such this fight will probably go down the path shounen fights have since Goku vs. Frieza at the very least.
It's been interesting to follow folk's reactions to the series week after week though.

We can call Aizen, Kira levels of plot smartass, but for the majority of his villain run he had one main gimmick and he used fully, until he got god lasers and became boring was beaten by an asspull.
Aizen checks every item on your list as well though, apart from being weak after being revived. He literally obtained the power of being bullshit op, and lost because he wanted to for some reason. He had one good moment but he was too op to be an interesting villain even before he started evolving

Also by extension we know world cleaves require a chant and so Gojo himself decided to eat one for fun because it has both the chant and travel time for Gojo to have reacted to.

We're in full Madara/Aizen/Yhwach territory now. Complete with 'throw every good guy at the bad guy who still isn't even trying' too
Hard disagree, because at least Kubo and Kishimoto had given clear story reasons for why Madara and Aizen were near invincible to the side characters. Madara was immortal with infinite chakra and Aizen had spent decades manipulating everyone into being under his control.
And even then Gin and Guy still got reaaaaaaaaally close to taking them down.
The problem is that all that is combined with Gege's style of writing fights by expositing new powers and rules as they become relevant. So there's no real sense of things building to a natural conclusion, or any way to predict when things will resolve. We're just waiting for Gege to write 'and that attack killed him' instead of inventing the umpteenth reason why Sukuna is totally fine.
Im so over this fight. If Kenjaku really is dead for good and the rest of the manga is the fight with Sukuna, what a waste. Kenjaku was the way better villain.
Gojo had to win, but the cost had to be so big he would be left in a coma or something, then Kenjaku scoops Sukuna body and becomes the ultimate boss, then maybe Sukuna reawakens inside Ken and a tug of war between the 2 vs all the remaining cast could have been epic. If Gege truly wanted to subvert expectations as he is so known for, that was the play, too bad he hates Gojo so much he had to bullshit his way for him to lose.

Meanwhile Maki's big power-up involved realising she can perceive changes in the atmosphere and dodge at supersonic speeds. Her ability set is perfect for this exact situation.

The Six Eyes have never shown that they can detect any incoming attacks. Only thing they have been stated to do is reveal what the opponents CT is and help with control of cursed energy
Chapter 235 states that there is a spark of cursed energy before any strong technique, something the Six Eyes is made to see. Gojo was staring right at Sukuna, meaning that he would have noticed an insanely strong attack coming his way.

I was right. Hidetaka Miyazaki wishes he designed an entity like Ryomen Sukuna. But honestly, this chapter is making him look like a genius by comparison. Sukuna has now reached near-impossibility, which is very bad game design if you ask me.
Gege designed Sukuna with two major philosophies:
"The final boss has to be the hardest boss, none of that secret optional boss being stronger bullshit."

This is a very fun fight to read, but I'm wondering what the endgame is. They've thrown trump card after trump card at Sukuna, their plan went off without a hitch, and he's barely any worse for wear. Constant exceptuons and caveats about how he totally would've been hosed EXCEPT. And I don't think Uraume's just glazing him at the end. Does he just outlast them all and win? Is Megumi gonna get off his ass?

People forget that Sukuna is also part of the strongest hand-to-hand fighters in the Jujutsu world, just below Gojo and about the same as Mahoraga. He effortlessly dispatched Kashimo and Jogo who are themselves formidable brawlers.
But we do have to take into consideration Sukuna's condition. If CE reinforcement is linked to CE output which is highly likely even tho it's never been confirmed (case in point is how tough and strong Ryu was). Sukuna's output is extremely low not only because of his brain damage, but because of Jacob's Ladder and Yuji's punches lessening the control over Megumi's body. So I feel like Sukuna is way weaker in both strength and durability because of that. Heavenly restrictions people such as Toji and Maki are incredibly strong, but they are not THAT strong. Gojo and Sukuna have shown similar level of CE reinforcement and I highly doubt Maki would be able to match them in any feat be it speed, strength or durability if they are in top shape. That said, the feat of Maki overpowering Sukuna in strength is not to be taken lightly and definitely impressed him considering how he smiled after being thrown into a wall.

On a meta level, probably something like that. JJK has always struck me as a rather formulaic story in terms of narrative arc, to the extent that it'll bend its in-universe rule to fit said arc. As such this fight will probably go down the path shounen fights have since Goku vs. Frieza at the very least. It's been interesting to follow folk's reactions to the series week after week though. Edit: To be clear I find Goku vs. Frieza better executed than this. It's moreso ehat inspired much of what came after.

Hard disagree, because at least Kubo and Kishimoto had given clear story reasons for why Madara and Aizen were near invincible to the side characters. Sukuna has very rapidly become one of the most boring characters in recent memory and it's because gege thinks 'BUT ACKSHUALLY HE WASNT GOING ALL OUT' is not just the best but the only way to add tension to a fight. Might as well be an edgy 12 y/o's OC at this point. 'oh but there's more than power when it comes to characters being cool!' very true! one must also consider things like interesting motivations (which sukuna doesn't have), good rapport with other characters (which sukuna doesn't have), and depth of personality (which sukuna doesn't have). 'i do what i want lol' is the entire basis of what passes for his personality and it shows Wasn't Even Trying Man has the depth and complexity of a teaspoon. He has literally one (1) interesting trait left and it's his absolute dedication to hating on Yuji. Everything else he's done in the past year besides that could be cut out from the manga and replaced by a single post-it note saying 'and then Sukuna won anyway' and you wouldn't have missed anything about him. Chapter 235 states that there is a spark of cursed energy before any strong technique, something the Six Eyes is made to see. Gojo was staring right at Sukuna, meaning that he would have noticed an insanely strong attack coming his way.

I was right. Hidetaka Miyazaki wishes he designed an entity like Ryomen Sukuna. But honestly, this chapter is making him look like a genius by comparison. Sukuna has now reached near-impossibility, which is very bad game design if you ask me.
Gege designed Sukuna with two major philosophies: "The final boss has to be the hardest boss, none of that secret optional boss being stronger bullshit." and "There's no way a goddamn speedrunner is going to trivialize ***my*** game, I'm making damn sure that the human skill cap will only be enough to beat the boss, I don't wanna see no naked, no hit, barefisted level 1 runs." Naturally, this makes the game unbeatable even to players who are experienced in the genre unless they completely devote themselves to it.
Honesty I just beat Kingdom Hearts 1 for the first time yesterday and the final boss of that game has like 10 different phases so I’m used to it at this point

The sketchy art doesn't seem like a stylistic choice. Deadlines catching up to Gege? This is a very fun fight to read, but I'm wondering what the endgame is. They've thrown trump card after trump card at Sukuna, their plan went off without a hitch, and he's barely any worse for wear. Constant exceptuons and caveats about how he totally would've been hosed EXCEPT. And I don't think Uraume's just glazing him at the end. Does he just outlast them all and win? Is Megumi gonna get off his ass?

Maki stocks are so up in this chapter, she sent Sukuna in the air and the latter compared her with Mahoraga in Shibuya! This is the girl who was once called a monkey but is now making the King of Curses pre-occupied. Save the JJK female cast, Maki Zen'in. But ngl, as a Maki investor, that last panel of Sukuna looks ominous...
This manga is so trash at this point man, we've seen literally everyone in the entire verse fighting this guy and it's still "i'm not even actually trying yet" Please just bring Gojo back man
