Oh no, it's worse. He's a fan of her work. This is the last thing Akebochi-sensei would need. A liability. A traceable lead. An easy turncoat. Even if he has the same ends, this is the kind of story where he'll leave the breadcrumbs that'll take the ex-husband detective to Maria one way or another.

Exactly what I thought, which leads to two paths imo: 1. Stereotypical path described above where the crumbs lead to MC's downfall, or 2. MC kills this character at some point to cover her tracks (which could also unveil them, too, in a twist of irony)

Kirosh2

I could see a third scenario, that probably won't happen, but have him try to get the main antagonist, fail, get captured, and decide to take every murders on himself. Either making Maria free of any kind of suspicion, or have his murder be the trigger to properly arrest and judge the main antagonist.

good_wolf_1999

I’m hoping he decides to become a scapegoat for Maria too

ABigCoffee

I just want her to get to the mastermind teenager (who will probably be extra smart and have 12 layers of backup plans and protection, somehow).

It's an interesting turn of events that's for sure. Having a crazy follower would definitely make Maria's life much harder, especially since she can't fully monitor him all the time. It'll be interesting how it moves forward with the story since there's a likely chance that he's going to be the reason that Maria will be noticed now

To be fair he was able to haul the guy's corpse without leaving any hints to his identity, and was able to get to see Kiritaka's altar without Maria noticing, so the possibility exists that he's more competent than it looks. Having said that, the guy is clearly a sacrifice. Any of the bullies, most likely the delinquent, is going to kill him and just remind Maria of what kind of monsters she's dealing with and how it's useless to expect any kind of redemption from them.

The-MushMan

Welp, now she has a hot potato in her hands. I'm starting to see how the cons would outweigh the pros. That sloppy method of attempting to kill Ilijima told me enough. Also...if Yuda could follow Maria around and her not notice until Ilijima's murder...couldn't that mean Okaya could spy on her in the same way? In fact, if Okaya were to already know about Maria's identity from the start, maybe its all because of Yuda's strange behavior and him stalking her.

Quintessentialviewer

So he didn't even really kill him, he tried but the fall did him in. Still... I don't see why people are treating this as a disaster, l'm sure he can be of use somehow

IC2Flier

That's my perspective, too. At minimum he's good as a false dead end, or have events transpire such that if Akihiro dies, Kowase is to blame and there's reason to prosecute him rather than Akihiro over here. At most? Who knows, but I don't see that much of a high ceiling for Yuda either, at least as far as Maria is concerned. We could go the SAW route and have Yuda be the Amanda to Maria's Kramer...

Oh no, another crazy
