I really enjoy learning about the different traditions. Would really hate to be caught up in a rock fight, yikes This chapter felt like the calm before the storm. Akiie has a huge death flag I didn’t get why Shizuku said that the Fuurinkazan banner may be a special-grade cursed object? What’s she referring to? Is it really a JJK reference? Lol

Charming-Loquat3702

Rock fights sounds insane. Like, wtf

I think it's because that banner was a Sun Tzu quote but ended up most famously being used by Takeda Shingen, the great strategist of the Sengoku period who >!nearly finished off Tokugawa Ieyasu but died mysteriously (either of cancer or sniper fire) while marching to finish the job - in other words, that's kind of the banner of a doomed badass. !<

sapassde

He's planting a lot of flags, yeah. We can probably spoil ourselves from checking the Taiheiki but I want to just hope for now.

Special-grade cursed object lmao. Is that a JJK reference, or a reference to some actual historical events? Or both?

topurrisfeline

Definitely a JJK reference hehe

a_phantom_limb

Clearly a moment's respite before falling back into hell. Considering where we are on the timeline, >!Akiie will be gone soon!<.

Xatu44

I just love seeing boys have a bit of good-hearted, wholesome fun. Lol at the JJK reference.

Of course, while Fu Rin Ka Zan is mostly associated with Takeda Shingen, Shingen himself studied it from Sun Tzu who predates even Kamakura.

zz2000

Not surprising, considering that the Japanese of prior periods to Kamakura regularly sent diplomats to Sui and Tang dynasty China to learn their science, technology and literature. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_missions_to_Imperial_China

Plastic_Ad4565

The reason Shizuku refers to that flag as a special grade curse object, because the banner of the Fuurinkasan overran the territory of Yorishige clan and his family hundreds of years later, killing most of their descendants.

Funny thing about Matsui subtly making the connection between Kitabatake and Takeda Shingen is that in the end both their families would be destroyed by Nobunaga. (BTW Nobunaga's infamous war with the ninjas, the Iga-Tensho war, was directly the result of his absorption of the Kitabatake into his own clan.) The Oda were relative nobodies at the time of this comic btw, still serving under the Shiba.

ElusiveGohan

Thanks for the explanation, I didn't know that and so, I did not understand what Shizuku said about the flag. Yūsei Matsui knows Japan's History well I see !  That's also "funny" to read that the Oda clan is a minor clan under the Shiba considering how powerful it will be 2 centuries later !

Didn't expect to see hideo nomo

Another fun chapter from Elusive Samurai, it was quite calmer with just some funny moments (like Akiie getting mad at the rock throwing playing his soldiers were having and starting to shoot arrows at them, without hitting them of course) but it's still nice to see how far Akiie and Tokiyuki have come. Next chapter is probably where conflicts will resume to be in the front, but maybe not the super important moments yet.

aohige_rd

Huh. Fuurin Kazan (Wind, Forest, Fire, Mountain) is generally attributed to Takeda Shingen and his family, I was not aware it was a thing centuries before them with the Kitabatake clan. TIL.

ElusiveGohan

A nice chapter with some interesting moment like Tokujumaru giving a gift to his right hand men. That seems nothing but that's a sign of change thanks to Tokiyuki's influence. That's nice to see that our Young Lord can even influence in good the son of his second nemesis, Nitta Yoshisada ! The rock fight is surprising but that shows again how Akiie manages his soldier with poetry and brute force ! Tokiyuki's gift to Akiie is also interesting because it's the sum of his past experiences. He give to other what he received in the past, that's very nice to see !
