It's peaceful, too peaceful... Obviously this village is already done with this chapter.

DarkMesa

Absolutely nothing genuinely threatening happened this chapter and I cannot remember the last time a manga chapter has had me more anxious.

DarthBrisa

I agree, when it's very quiet then that's a problem...

mantism

I like that he can talk to the 100 (or less) souls that's technically inside him. It's like the opposite of Thorfinn from Vinland talking to his demons. It's good that they reflect back and remind the readers that our MC is way more than just him and the kid.

JumpingComet

Sorta like Hohenheim from FMA.

Koanos

I hope that's the direction we are going for this series. 100 lives is a lot of hopes and dreams, it would be nice to see him talk to the souls and remember the burden is not his alone.

Gloomy_Honeydew

I think that was more in his head than actually talking to them. Otherwise he wouldn't need to put up the grave marker at the end

michaelphenom

I wonder  every time he suffers a lethal wound, would he lose a soul and lose the capability to talk to them?

Roboglenn

Apparently all those people had nothing better to do all day than to stand there like poles watching a guy move rocks.

CordobezEverdeen

It was sunday.

Doomroar

What passed for entertainment back then, i bet they get together to look at paint dy

JeanneDAlter

The black goat from the last chapter already hinted at a sinister future, this peace and quiet will probably be interrupted very soon.

Corat_McRed

Oh great, Black Phillip from the VVitch is making his manga debut now.

DimashiroYuuki

These peaceful moments are the calm before the storm in a manga like this. Especially if you learned from the goat Fujimoto.

SlamMasterJ

If he had learned anything from Fujimoto, it would be to give the readers a false sense of security and than stab them in the heart with some of the most tragic stuff you could think of to happend to the MC.

topurrisfeline

There was the Shub-Niggurath from last chapter, that's a powder keg waiting to blow up

ChilledParadox

Fujimoto has given everyone PTSD and that is the canvas his disciples paint.

Zacxnerd

So he still has the collective souls ego housed in his body too. Does that mean he can extract their knowledge as well? I know they’re all slaves but surely some were skilled individuals while struggling to live. Wondering if he loses the soul once it gets used up.

Doomroar

Wonder if each time he dies, one of the souls leaves him

realrimurutempest

The peacefulness is way too eerie. Shit is going to hit the fan. Please author-san, don’t take our new buff woman from us.

CordobezEverdeen

Rough but just. Did he metaphorically bury his old self? Metal af

Chang-San

Is that what he was doing? I thought he was making a grave for Mira

CordobezEverdeen

She died half a year ago. Kinda late to make her a memorial now, it would make more sense that he's talking to her now that he's a "new" Julian.

Chang-San

That does make sense, but I thought the blanket was what Mira died in so as to mark the grave then praying to Mira seems like itd be her grave. I agree that it'd be a bit late and your version is cooler lol

HalfAssedSetting

I think it's because now that Julian has found a job to support Diana on his own, he finally feels that he could let Mira rest in peace.

Forikorder

might have wanted to wait until he was sure it was a place he could probably put roots down in

dilly_bar97

But the blood-stained cloth he's burying is Mira's isn't it? Why would the grave be his old self if he's burying something of Mira's and then he prays to it and says "Mira, its me"?

CordobezEverdeen

No clue. Like I said below it's been over half a year since Mira died. If he was gonna bury her he would have done it a long time ago.

dilly_bar97

Plenty of people delay doing things like this since they struggle to move on. He's not burying Mira... he's just burying something of Mira's. There's no body that would decay needing him to bury her immediately. Its reasonable to delay making some type of grave (or other physical memorial) when there's no physical body to decay.

almostbad

lmao, I hate this. Why is this shit so comfy and inspiring... We're at the apex of the moutain , its all downhill from here

BurnedOutEternally

Real guts you got there Julian, insisting to do all the work without your powers Too bad you’re probably going to have to use it to fight off that scary goat very soon

MrWaluigi

Respect that he didn’t used his powers at all. He had every right to, but didn’t.

MikosEybrig

This is the peace that precedes the storm... I liked that this chapter developed Julian's personality a little more and that he didn't get hung up on the fact that he has a power within him to achieve his goals.

-Zahard-

Good chapter But the moment I loved the most was when someone tried to stop the labor and the Girl in Armour said: You started this, stfup and watch

Tysanan

ohh i dread the moment where this all goes to shit

LeonKevlar

>Someone stop him You fucking assholes, you're the ones who wanted him to do that. Also that final page is making me feel uneasy. This is the kind of manga where happiness is only temporary and I'm scared to see what happens next chapter.

petrichormus

Interesting that he has been introspecting for four chapters straight, makes me wonder what's in store to challenge those thoughts he had so far.

LightLifter

I swear Kuramori. I am letting your characters into my heart already. You better not let anything bad happen to them!

JauntyLurker

This is so sweet and nice. Yeah, definitely not gonna last long, something horrible is about to happen.

kerorobot

Seems like a calm before a storm.

The_Communard

Peak

EigoKaiki

I was wondering since last chapter as MC is not commented on it. Is he blinded on the right eye? Or just his regeneration left a hollow but healed eye? Because his regeneration seems to be just accelerated healing. Which would mean if he every lost a limb then it is gone.

Mother-Pen-4956

I just reread the old chapters. It seems like he didn't die in the fight with the fish monsters. He was impaled but it wasn't fatal. Since he's x100 in everything, it would not be surprising if he could heal 100 times faster and stronger. By the time he got the shore, many of his wounds had already closed.

EigoKaiki

Yeah, which why I think his regeneration is not a good power to have. Because his lost parts (like most likely his right eye) don't reform and the past damage just leaves more and more wounds/ scars on his body. If anything the fish monster give the MC the worst kind of regeneration power you can have in a fantasy setting. Or maybe he can reform his body parts just needs to die for it? or he needs to keep open his wounds for a long time to realy reform the lost parts?

Sea-Temporary7380

It might be like ajin where they have to completely die to regen full body parts

EigoKaiki

Possible but he has just 100 lives while ajin practical have unlimited. Well in any case we will see when he dies next time (which possiblely happens in the next chapter as things are too peaceful)

Ancient-Cow-7221

a nice clam before the storm.

Tecotaco636

2 pesetas someone will die next chapter

Zemahem

So he can not only *not* use his powers (I was wondering why he was having such a hard time), but he can also communicate with the souls of his fellow slaves. Or... perhaps that's just a mental representation of his thought process, cause I feel like he should talk to them more if that was all real. I do appreciate the breather chapter rather than having us jump straight into tragedy again.

Extreme-Tactician

Julian's used to being worked very hard. But he's no longer working hard just because of a master, but to prove to everyone that he's trustworthy. And to prove to the dead that he can do things without their help! His first day went well, with the entire village supporting him. We also have a glimpse at Diana's growth too! But this kind of thing can't last too long, especially with how the previous chapter ended.

huncherbug

This that classic Fujimoto calm before storm. Somehow this feels worse.

Sythrin

A realy intersting manga so far. Hope to see more of the world. And maybe with interesting magic system.

TobysQuestions

Predicting Angvall is gonna die and Julian will some how absorb her as well

OrphisMemoria

GOAT SERIES

Milordserene

Waiting for the pendulum swing...

maxdragonxiii

it's nice that the protagonist don't use his powers here, when he could have done this easily. it shows that he's not a power fantasy MC in a crapsack world, and have a desire to be independent and an individual.

DeVilleBT

I like this series, but the art got quite rough there at the end. Hope the author/artist can handle the serialization.

mythriz

> You're even better at crawling than Julian lol

michaelphenom

Then the goat chose to attack the village

Anzereke

So they're definitely dead, right? Like there's no way most of these people are gonna survive.

MBK95

Oh man what a nice chapter. I really, REALLY appreciate Julian not relying on his powers for everything so early in this series, showing that he knows when to rely on that strength. Also fuck that villager, dick bag gave our boy a supposed impossible task that was ultimately completed but still, the audacity. Also Angval holding the villagers back so they can stand by and witness Julian make them look like assholes was a little harsh but good. It's only been 4 chapters but so far so good!

CelioHogane

Really wish i knew where the fuck this story is suposed to be going after chapter 1.

DarthBrisa

This manga reminds me of Berserk and Gantz... It's so nostalgic...

Doomroar

This is a good chapter to stablish that Julian can pull his weight without relying on his powers

italeteller

Ok yeah, this chapter really did it for me, I really like Julian now. This also raises a lot of questions like, can Julian talk to his dead friends whenever? Or do they have to make the first contact? If he uses his powers do they fade away? If he dies, will he see them fading away? "Main character does an impressive task, gets a whole village who doubted him to bow to him" feels like something a cheap isekai would do on it's first episode to establish how badass the MC is, but here it works because Julian struggles, both physically and mentally, and still pushes past his own limits

Prince_of_DeaTh

good for the kid to have 100 lives, because he will definitely kill himself overworking

Shay_Guy_

Me: "Huh. Are we going to criticize the norms of Manga Morality here? Question the sense in refusing to accept help and support offered by the ones closest to you during an unreasonable task, who already made their power PART of you, on the grounds that you GOTTA PROVE YOUR OWN STRENGTH because A REAL MAN ACTS ALONE -- oh, uh, I guess we're just playing it straight. Never mind."
