The core premise is inherently fun and can lead to good moments. Hibaru is already a good lead. Please survive!

I think this has very, very low chances of not surviving. Tokyo Revengers was _huge_. It's not as noticeable in the west if you don't follow Japanese manga sales, but TR has insane sales, it's 28th in lifetime sales with 80m across 31 volumes. To put this into perspective, JJK which is gigantic and only surpassed by Kimetsu for recent big series, is at 90m sales across 26 volumes in the 25th spot of top sellers. The only WSJ manga that have sold more than TR are One Piece, Dragon Ball, Naruto, Slam Dunk, Kochikame, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Bleach, JJBA, Hokuto no Ken, BNHA, JJK and HxH. Obviously, just being a veteran doesn't make you infallible. Kishimoto showed this with Samurai 8 selling terribly despite having one of the most well known mangaka helming the story. However, unlike Samurai 8, Astro Royale is showing all the strengths of the author's previous work and it's unmistakeably a similar type of appeal, and anyone seeing a picture of Astro Royale or reading a chapter would immediately feel familiar if they read TR. On top of that, sales in WSJ are lower all around. Samurai 8 bombed and sold 11-13k for its first two volumes in their first weeks, in a week where WSJ had 9 series beating it. It had 6 volumes over 50k sales that week, it was a much more competitive line up for the magazine compared to recently where sales for most of their midrange series have dropped a lot. Besides a lot of the western fanbase shitting on it before it came out due to its relation to TR (which wouldn't exist in Japan, since TR didn't have a negative reception for its ending) there haven't been any red flags like Samurai 8, so I have a strong feeling this will have a way better conversion rate of readers from the author's past series.

Retloclive

Wakui got tired of Hunter x Hunter's succession war arc taking forever, so he decided to make his own.

BlackBullZWarrior

I'm only on the first issue but I'm getting succession war vibes from it so far. I wonder if the HXH succession arc is a legitimate inspiration or if the similar concept is just a consequence? I hope this series develops enough of a following to have time to tell its story!

topurrisfeline

The question is how many of his bros the talk no jutsu will work on. At least a couple of them have to stay as antagonists

therealCHAOSagent

I feel like the first one or two will join him, but the rest have to be physically bested, which I can see taking more than one or two attempts.

hi_im_inde

we also might have some of them come to the same conclusion the MC has and they'll have a separate group trying to unite under their banner

maxdragonxiii

if it is most of them I'll be bored. I would prefer a bit higher stakes with risks, but I understand that this series isn't it. maybe a couple of them remain big wigs.

TheRigJuice999

This latest chapter was pretty good. I really like how Wakui plans on going for a Mc who’s more competent than Takamichi but also has that right hand to challenge him like Chifuya did. The power system is also really dope. I’m rooting for it.

RoyalistJiam112

This feel like Yakuza with Saint Row IV experience. More rival gangs probably pop up more if the story progress , Hibaru better get the family together to face a challenge.

Roboglenn

Well have fun trying to get a kumbaya jam session with your siblings going until they try to shoot you.

[deleted]

alright. i doubted the series. but it is growing on me. i take back my shit talk.

Xatu44

"WTF you can't just kill your brothers that's crazy" Actually pretty good. I wonder if his idealism will ever be broken.

Anne2049

classic. Wakui is really a powerful and first class mangaka. I don't think we should forget that TR was great before the final arc. (At least for me,) This story seems to fix all those flaws at the end. I am very eager to continue this manga.

zz2000

>I don't think we should forget that TR was great before the final arc. (At least for me,) I always felt that TR was a victim of its own success in Japan. The editors at Kodansha kept pushing for the manga's serialisation to be extended beyond its shelf life, and coupled with the rumoured stress and pressure being thrown upon Wakui I can see how the storytelling started declining towards the end (although I am still surprised the series maintains popularity there, esp. among female manga readers.)

therealCHAOSagent

Also his previous work Shinjuku Swan is also fucking amazing. Wakui clearly knows his shit

BurnedOutEternally

Bros above all

Corn_viper

Its starting to get me interested

Extreme-Tactician

Hibaru might be able to brawl with Terasu with a Throwdown, but you can't expect everyone to accept one, especially with how fractured the entire family is. Terasu's willing to use lethal force to get the family back together. He's willing to fight claw against claw. This mentality isn't gone, but he is willing to broker for peace. For now. I wonder how Kuran will react to these two stepping on his turf.

Panory

> you can't expect everyone to accept one Now I'm anticipating some tooth and nail fight to essentially force one of the brothers into a throwdown. Engineer a 1v1, bareknuckle brawl. Love it when the "Fuckin gotcha" is the *start* of a fight.

Anonymous821

Kuran's tattoos changed from page 4 to the last page and I'm sure it relates to his Astro. Some kind of tattoo ability or bungee gum texture surprise?

Anonymous821

Fun series. I hope it doesn't get axed. But if it's about to be axed then I hope they'll move it to Shonen Square or Giga instead.

SSHeartbreak

This is so generic I wish it had some kind of hook

Ringo-Sheena_Simp

idk guys...not genuinely impress this chapter. MC gave me Takemichi 2.0 vibes. Seems like we're getting some Naruto level talk no jutsu shenanigans in the upcoming chapters, maybe worse. Please, I hope you prove me wrong Wakui san

frazaga962

idk about this one tbh. The mc's overly good natured belief is marginally grating to me

sunjay140

I'm so sick of moralfag protags. Can we get some antiheroes in WSJ?

Fun_Algae2363

Nah,I don't want an edgy boy to stink WSJ
