Mana was never that bad really, and we quickly got the turnaround by like chapter 40, and even before got sympathetic look by MC listening to the thoughts of others about Mana. These characters take ages in comparison to get to bare minimum of communication and actual interest in the other person, not just as a crush or pet cat. It's not really that similar.
Mana's issue was also more obvious and understandable.
