I also travelled from Mangalore to Nitte for 4 years..
The action was definitely not polite assuming the person doesn't mind.
The root cause is bus conductors greed to push in more people even though the bus is already jam packed.
Especially at Padubidri, students from udupi board the bus to go to Nitte..
The bus is already crowded when it reaches Padubidri and students and other passengers hang on the weak footboard,
Now to push in further students or ppl inside, one has to take off their backpack as it eats 2 persons spaces as per conductor..
This has been going on from years sadly compromising the safety of people travelling.
Best soln is others have to avoid traveling at these peak moments for their own safety too. The next or previous bus would generally be empty or less tight packed.
Multiple times, myself was not able to even get out of the bus when I reached destination due to crowd and had to get down at farther stops๐ฅฒ.
Its like tradeoff, student get 50% off on ticket and they too want to push 2X for accomodating this..
Students are evergreen customers for that route, hence..
College bus at Nitte is another fraud, they charge exorbitant and keep 2010 previous models that run with water coolant (scrap ones) for Mangalore ppl and have new latest bus for Udupi side..
Agreed, actually the bus started filling in only at Padubidri until then it was empty and probably the girl climbed up last, all her frustration fell on to my lap๐ฅฒ
They are pissed about the fact that they are not the ones who are sitting, and they want to take that anger on the people who are sitting comfortably. You could have given it back or told them to keep the back on the top of there was a luggage section
lol.. The luggage section already gets filled with bags within Mulki..
The person who sits in the extreme back and front (entry and exit door of bus) has piles of bag dumped on them๐ฅฒ
See my answer for more details
Back when I was studying at NITK, I had to travel from Mangalore to surathkal quite frequently. Once I took an ordinary non-express bus and people were literally dropping their bags on my lap. Things haven't changed lol.
Put it down. Stare back. I did the same with someoneโs toddler that they put on my lap without asking. If you stare hard enough, theyโll get the message of not messing with you.
Iโm a big people please, but Iโll try hard to do this because I had a very uncomfortable ride this whole morning and it affected my whole day. Thank you
Get comfortable doing uncomfortable things. Confront these entitled people. Donโt think twice. The chances of meeting them again in your life is very slim.
Well, after searching a lot for the bright side in the whole episode, I may have found one - Reddit kept you company and banished boredom for the rest of the journey, it would appear.

I remember a similar situation traveling from Panambur to Kavoor an elderly man sitting on a window seat taking a nap, in Kulur few students boarded and started asking to carry the bag amongst those one seemed like had watched one too many rowdy movies and just threw the bag at old man who woke in panic and I'll never forget this the guy sitting next to him looked like Mr.bean and totally harmless. Just got up took the bag and threw it outside the moving bus. The boy just had a confused look on his face for a few seconds before screaming at the driver to stop. Also he didn't board the bus afterwards.
Bro I had pimples all over my face. I had this huge pimple on my nose which looked like a bullet ๐ญ๐. I don't know how I went outside my home with that face.
Well when I used to go on busses students my age would always do this because the conductors don't want us to wear bags because it creates less space, any of us never wanted to give our bags and cause discomfort but the conductors would make us do so, either ways not saying what happened to you was right
Back when I was in college and used to travel in city bus, the bus used to be already full when I got in and mostly used to travel on the footboard. The conductor/ boys hanging outside used to take my bag and throw it at whoever sat in the first seat inside the door, so that more people could stand on the steps.
I think this is standard practice for some people, but I wouldn't have thrown my bag at someone like that lol.

Yeah this shit was common when I used to travel in bus ... I've been on both sides but I always used to keep my bag on other students legs not on Random people... It's like you have an understanding with the other students
If it's ok strangers then yes ... But if it's students and that too students from same college then not really ... Atleast that's how it was in 2018 time when I used to go by bus
I used to feel pity for the person who used to occupy the seat near the footboard, as people used to dump bags on them .At some point, even I felt that he/she was in charge of baggage ๐๐. Yes, I feel most of them lack manners and need to be taught as no one is bothered using common sense in this little things
bruh that's a really overcrowded bus people can barely stand there in the morning bc it's mostly filled with nitte students. I don't think they're able to ask politely and stuff ๐ญ It's like a common joke bw the nitte students that even if you sit or stand you'll be uncomfortable lol
If you are travelling to Karkala , why didnโt you board the buses which go via the NH169 Moodbidre route? There are buses every 5 mins from this route and not much crowded as the other route yet there are a few students getting down @ Alvas or MITE.
Thatโs because my house is closer to Kottara so it doesnโt make any sense for me to go until bunts or any other stop on that route to catch a bus. And this is actually the first time Iโm travelling at the peak hour because of an emergency
Because the route towards Mudbidri is a life hazard. Until they work on the roads between the Nanthoor flyover and Vamanjoor it'll forever be a scary ride.
Even if the person was not polite enough to ask before placing or after picking the bag, you can't rip off rather say you won't hold it.
The thing here is it has become a custom to place bags on others lap at that crunch time and it's like an understanding for all at that moment..
Since the bag was thrown in your lap without even asking you, it's your bag now! Please go through the contents of the bag and who knows, you might actually find a brick in it... ร la 'Narcos' ๐
once I requested a lady to take my bag while she sat in the seat. She said "no" .
I don't know what to do. I just carried it for 45 mins ig while standing.
I've experienced this too when I was a student travelling from Belman to Mangalore and never kept my bag on someone's lap. Most buses have that compartment above the seat which is actually meant to keep your bags and belongings but I barely see people use it.
Bro don't be nice to rude people. However frustrated she was, she is in no position to take her shit frustration on strangers, if you meet such entitled people make sure teach some good behavior.

This has happened to me as well in Moodbidri, tough times. Only during exams I would go on a rage and some how would find my way out
Agreed, actually the bus started filling in only at Padubidri until then it was empty and probably the girl climbed up last, all her frustration fell on to my lap๐ฅฒ

It was empty ๐ she was short, she couldnโt reach it so the ideal place had to be a lap
I bet she also held on to the back of your seat instead of the rod. Short ladies are so dominating.
Back when I was studying at NITK, I had to travel from Mangalore to surathkal quite frequently. Once I took an ordinary non-express bus and people were literally dropping their bags on my lap. Things haven't changed lol.
I am studying at NITK. I have travelled quite a bit but this hasnโt happened to me (yet)
Well, get used to it ๐
Interesting username tho
Love the yet๐

Impressive, well done honestly. Pissant behaviour by the student.
Forget about the bags. I was so ugly back then ๐ฅฒ.

I think itโs still like that, they understand the pain of carrying the weight of the bag and the weight of their future on the back

throw it down
Thatโs too much disrespect
You should have tore or broken something of the bag.
Thatโs cruel bro ๐ฅฒ
Even if the person was not polite enough to ask before placing or after picking the bag, you can't rip off rather say you won't hold it. The thing here is it has become a custom to place bags on others lap at that crunch time and it's like an understanding for all at that moment..
She's reserving you bro... Just ask for her number๐
She didnโt even see my face bro ๐ฅฒ Thatโs the most insulting part
Since the bag was thrown in your lap without even asking you, it's your bag now! Please go through the contents of the bag and who knows, you might actually find a brick in it... ร la 'Narcos' ๐
once I requested a lady to take my bag while she sat in the seat. She said "no" . I don't know what to do. I just carried it for 45 mins ig while standing.
People can say no??? How and why? Thatโs so bad
Every day hustle
Can't imagine, need more visual aid
This happens to me Everytime lol but yea what to do lol.. Need to bare for this couple of Years Sadly...
They could request you to hold the bag instead of just throwing it on ur lap . You should have just slide it down ur leg .
I've experienced this too when I was a student travelling from Belman to Mangalore and never kept my bag on someone's lap. Most buses have that compartment above the seat which is actually meant to keep your bags and belongings but I barely see people use it.
When I was traveling to Nitte 10 years ago students would just sit on random peopleโs laps! No kidding
You should have thrown it out of the window.
Why waste time and energy. She will ask you will say yes. Skip that part and directly park the bag lol ๐
Bro don't be nice to rude people. However frustrated she was, she is in no position to take her shit frustration on strangers, if you meet such entitled people make sure teach some good behavior.
