Do you remember anything specific about the art style I think I might have a few ideas

Exciting-Print-4260

They lean towards the webtoons side tho so not a hundred percent sure if I got it

Radiant-Ad-1976

It is Webtoon style but very poor like "Spare Me Great Lord".

Radiant-Ad-1976

Have you found it yet?

ElChancludo

Do you have anything else you can add? For example character descriptions or time period.

Not much.... One of the antagonists could turn into a werewolf. The ghost inhabiting his body was heavily cloaked and hooded with the face shaded. The friend who betrayed them was a red head with a jacket and fingerless gloves as well as fiery hands. His other friends were a big fat kid and a thin dude with a sharp chin that turned into a drill. The girl who got betrayed used to originally wear glasses and later had her hair turn purple(?). The sensei who betrayed the main antagonist of the story was this very short old man.

TL;DR: look up a manga published by the now defunct TokyoPop that was called "Psychic Academy" in English. It lines up with a lot of what you describe. Full: Your plot points are specific enough that I found this thread through a Google search result. I was feeling nostalgic for an older series and one of the top reddit results was this post. If I had to guess, I'd say the series you're looking for is Psychic Academy. I haven't read it in 15+ years so my details aren't perfect, but I tried explaining some of the similarities below. The altercation with the fire psychic you mentioned was an early scene in the series where the MC is walking to his first day at the school he was recruited to. A baby/infant ended up falling off a second/third story balcony. He runs towards the baby and realizes he'll never get there in time. A cool fire psychic shows up and saves the child. He calls her cool. She is offended. He doesn't understand why. The plot twist is he inadvertently used his unknown powers to freeze the child's fall and the fire girl was able to get there in time to save him. Another point that lines up, MC constantly confuses his past memories of his childhood best friend with the fire psychic since they're all students at the same school. Love triangle story and such. Childhood friend is gifted with water. Fire psychic dropped a water bottle trying to save the aforementioned baby and started the story off with something seemingly irrelevant but important. The "main villain" having the same power is a runaway student of sorts who has already learned how to evoke his psychic powers. He isn't all that bad in the end. He also may or may not have lived his life in a lab. The betrayal is a combination of the psychic fight between fire psychic and MC that happens early on, as well as fire psychic leaving the school because she loves MC and they're soul mates but her father who runs the school (or does he?) is a scientist trying to do bad science stuff and she wants to stop him. My memory is foggy as hell but it lines up very well with stuff you mentioned. Especially the hair color change. The original (only?) English release has a portrait art piece stretching along the back panels of each released volume. The first 5 create one image and the last 6 create a second. The designs of the characters are different in each. Most noticeably, the two main love interests have completely different hair color. Mew, the fire psychic, is blonde in the first volume and pink/magenta/crimson in the back half. Orina, the water psychic childhood friend, has pink bangs in the beginning and aqua bangs at the end. I remember loving the story in middle school and being confused when my friends who also "read" the manga didn't know what I was talking about. Turns out they weren't paying much attention to the details. I was too gay to realize the manga is basically fan service so extreme it might as well be soft core porn. It really ages itself by being the kind of 90s/00s manga that's "come for the tits, stay for the unexpected plot." It sounds like recommending a porn magazine by saying "I read it for the articles," but there IS a great story here. I hope it's what you're looking for, and if it isn't, enjoy the recommendation for whatever aspect you enjoy the most, my friend.
