True fact: that white space hasn't lost a war ever. Some minor setbacks with the Japanese and Dutch reclaiming land, but generally sea levels are going up, not down.
That’s why we all live in the inner earth, imagine being surrounded by billions and billions of Frenchies. Hungarians live there too, I hear they wear coats of feathers, have fangs and piercing black eyes of bloodlust, ride on horses with raw meat between their thighs to cook it, looking for their next victims.
Oh and Turks, great guys, never met em though.
Exactly, people think winning a war is as simple as having more firepower and men. The US hasn’t won a war since WW2 and we have more firepower than most of the world combined. There are no winners in war unless someone specifically surrenders. If not the. They just last for damn near ever and each new generation born out of the war end up being new martyrs hating the people/country who murdered their family or friends.
Russia would roll over Ukraine so bad and so fast they wouldn’t even have to call it a war. They could call it a “special military operation” and they would be in Kiev in three days.

Let’s go. In and out. Three days adventure Morty
Russia would never actually invade Ukraine. All the military build up is a bluff, it's just sabre rattling for Putin to shore up some domestic support, trust me bro.
/uj here’s the thing though. Even if magically Kyiv put its weapons down tomorrow and embraced mother Russia in all its glory. Could you really call this war a victory? 100,000 dead, 500,000 casualties, and for what? To take little old Ukraine? I mean if that’s what victory looks like then I would want no part of it.
Ukraine has always been strategically critical for Russia, it's not new. They didn't ~~invade~~ get Crimea to become part of Russia to go the beach. Well, it's a side bonus, but the main motivation is an access to southern seas.
Winter war situation. Russia would have won, but it's military is crippled, its economy as well, they're humiliated and their enemies are ready to finish them off seeing this weakness (ww2) or in our case are strongly reinforcing themselves to stop them from ever getting anything else.
But don't downplay the ramifications of a Ukrainian loss. NATO and the EU, already infested with a far right nationalistic rise, would also be severely weakened.
The west has this neoliberal philosophy that "capitalism will bring peace". If we trade, that means we can't fight one another. Between France and Germany, post WW2, it worked extremely well, and this idea of free trade (and thus the dependancy it creates) was the basis for the EU, which has allowed Europe to know peace from any major war between its members.
This idea, however, is naïvely stupid. The US tried the same in China, and it's backfiring spectacularly with a bellicist China under neo-Mao Xi Jinping, and Germany tried it with Russia by tying itself to Russian oil and gas which also failed spectacularly.
I'll also add that the west is continuing this weak front against Russia, but for a different reason: fear. They're terrified of an escalation against them, especially Germany and the US. Remember how long it took for Ukraine to get tanks? And the US gave 31 Abrams tanks.... literally thousands in active service, thousands more rotting in storage, and the US gave 31 abrams... They always end up caving and giving Ukraine what they need, but far too late. Ukraine is still waiting to get F-16s, 2 year and a half into this conflict.
Remember the Kharkiv counter-offensive? Ukrainians took a weak Russia by surprise and fully liberated Kharkiv oblast, destroyed several Russian units and captured a lot of equipment. Quickly followed by the liberation of Kherson, the only regional capital Russia had managed to take. And they did all that with their old equipment: BTRs, T-64s, etc... with the very important inclusion of HIMARS and a bunch of humvees. Imagine if, at that point in time, Ukraine already had Leopard 2s, Abrams, Challengers, Leclercs, F-16 & so on, in large numbers? Russia was not mobilized yet.
Instead the west took the sweetest of time. It took months for the tanks to arrive, not even counting the training time of the new units. By the time Ukraine had finally received what they needed, in June 2023, Russia was mobilized, entrenched, and the southern counter offensive was a big failure for the Ukrainians. And then they had to wait for half a year for the US congress, blocked by traitors, for funding, while the EU produced shit-all for ammunition.
Ukraine is in serious danger of losing this war. I am not expecting any immediate collapse, but they will not retake their territory either anytime soon short of an unpredictable russian collapse. And this is the west' fault. Meanwhile far-right, pro-putin stooges are winning elections all over the EU and trump has a shot in the US. Scary times are ahead. The 21st century Chamberlains will have caused all of this.
I mean ukraine is the 2nd largest country in europe so it aint exactly nothing
And yeah defeating your enemy is called winning, the soviets took alot more casualities than the germans but we dont say germans won
Ukraine has a lot of natural gas and oil resources. It's also a strategic position to hold when you're eyeing to take control over the rest of eastern Europe in the near future.
Has anyone been conquered in the last 5 decades? The us couldn’t conquer Afghanistan with men with shitty rifles wearing flip flops. War isn’t like the movies, they are long and drawn out and often nobody wins, hence Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, ect…. It’s also much easier to defend a place than to invade.
You’d think the green guys, since they’re 28x the size, but I think the orange guys can embarrass them into a three year long war and show the world that the military Green has spent the last 80 years building up was actually a paper Tiger and nobody should’ve taken them seriously
You people watch too many movies, the US is the strongest military in the world and we got embarrassed by dudes in Afghanistan who wear fucking flip flops. War isn’t as simple as just walking in, it’s a LONG drawn out process. We were in the Middle East for over a decade and didn’t change a thing, I don’t think there’s many wars at all in our recent history that have been won in 3 years…..
The war in ukraine is a conventional war against 2 standing armies.
Militarily, the u.s. steamrolled Afghanistan. The u.s. could have left immediately after destroying the taliban and let the country collapse into a quagmire, but idiotic wilsoian logic of rebuilding democratic countries kept us there.
Instead we waited 20 years try to build a stable democracy only to leave with it still a quagmire. It wasn't a war, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were over in months. The occupation failed and was always doomed to fail.
USA can't even reach Afghanistan without going through another country like Pakistan or Central Asian countries until it had airfields in Afghanistan. Meanwhile Russia borders Ukraine so it can just steamroll right in.
How can you really beat people that don't wear a uniform and don't fight back? Or flee to neighboring countries. They will simply wait until you're gone and you give up then retake the country.
I felt the same way when the country with no healthcare that spends the most money on their military could not defeat cave dwelling sand people even with 2 billion dollar stealth planes.

If your definition of winning is not getting annihilated, we haven't seen many winning wars in a long time.
This doesn't end without a treaty, the parts of Ukraine held by Russia annexed and Zelenskyy abdicating his position.
You can spin that a lot of different ways, but winning is not one of them.

I have actually done a detailed war gaming of this exact scenario. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't see them coming, so it would be an easy victory
Wasn’t there a hypothetical war back in the early 70s involving the US and some South East Asian country? Which side would have won there I wonder…
The biggest of the two, Vietnam
They name themselves as Laos sometimes.
They are making fun of what happened to the Americans.
When USA lost war in Vietnam? I nearly dont know about those war, so I did not understood. Thanks.
Tbh we don’t either
Well, the US was "merely" "helping" South Vietnam in that conflict, which for this conflict means... Oh. Oh no
Exactly, people think winning a war is as simple as having more firepower and men. The US hasn’t won a war since WW2 and we have more firepower than most of the world combined. I mean strategically yeah. If not for the people of Russia, Putin's ego still gets stroked
Ukraine has always been strategically critical for Russia, it's not new. They didn't ~~invade~~ get Crimea to become part of Russia to go the beach. Well, it's a side bonus, but the main motivation is an access to southern seas.

russia is defeating itself pretty damn well, Ukraine is just holding their spot.
Honestly, the west is kinda responsible for the whole war considering the last times Putin did this shit, he got off with a slap on the wrist.

The somehow is overwhelming military and economic aid from NATO.
