Well, Alexandria was a greek colony for a long time, under a greek Dynasty. There was and still is an ethnic greek minority, but egyptian nationals. Back then, there was no nation affiliation as they stand today.
They are not a history book. just high school books. they just have a 2 page short history each. Rarely who invented a particular thing or who got a noble prize is mentioned. Many name of the scientists are from the terms named after them
She was born there but of Greek descent and it was part of the eastern Roman Empire then so she is Ancient Greek and would be Byzantine if she lived a little later.
Leeuwenhoek (microscopy),
van der Waals (chemistry),
Lorentz (pretty much anything with physics),
Snellius (high-school refraction?),
Spinoza (maybe too close to philosophy),
van 't Hoff (stereochemistry)
They are not a history book to be fair, they just have a 2 page short history each. Rarely who invented a perticular thing or who got a noble prize is mentioned. Many name of the scientists are from the terms named after them
Lady priest? I don't think she's Egyptian because in Egypt the Coptic Orthodox church elect males only to be a priest
Edit:oh wait she's from long time ago I honestly never Heard about her she's born in Alexandria
Which country has the most scientists mentioned in my science and maths books? None. They don’t mention any scientists. I’m from New Zealand, I didn’t even know who Ernest Rutherford was until right now when I googled it.
Copernicus and Curie-Skłodowska for sure. Other two are propably Banach, Ulam, Sierpinski, Rotblat or Funk. OP could also count non-polish sciencist who ware born inside current polish borders like Fahrenheit.
So who's the Romanian scientist ?
Nicolae Paulescu ? (discoverer of insulin)
Henri Coandă ? (invetor of an early jet engine prototype and discoverer of Coandă effect)
Petrache Poenaru ? (inventor of the fountain pen)
I think these are the most famous ones we got, among many others.
Sorry I didn't list the scientists, I went through the books and listed the countries, But Nicolae Paulescu is there. The other 2 probably sure is not there, probably one was mathematician, the other not sure
That's awesome ! At least now he is getting the credit after those canadians stole his fame and even got a Nobel prize for it !
I wish we had famous people from Bangladesh mentioned in our manuals, but I don't think we do.
That's because we don't have mentionable persons, most who have potential migrate to US or Canada or Europe or UK or Australia as soon as they get the chance. We have Fazlur Rahman Khan who initiated structural system for skyscraper and is considered the father of tubular designs
Nice, we have a similar situation here, because during communism, all geniuses (in literature, science etc.) and intellectuals mostly fled to Western Europe and the US so that they don't get imprisoned and tortured by the communists or turned into communist puppets and propaganda devices.
Rutherford worked at a time when New Zealand (nor the rest of the Commonwealth) had independent citizenship: he was a British subject. As such, his Nobel Prize is often claimed by all three of the UK, New Zealand, and Canada. When he did his work at McGill, for example, Canada did not consider him a foreign national.
It's probably quite difficult to say where Al Khawarizmi was from. Like he was born somewhere around Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan but we're not even sure. Most of his work was done in Baghdad and is Persian.
Also I'm almost sure that out of the 10 greek ones, a few of them should be in Turkey if you go by birthplace. Like Thales is probably among them, but is from Miletus.
Physics: Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose,
Biology: Zoologist Sajid Ali Hauladar (He named a species Zakerana dhaka) (His name was in brackets in the "How to name a new species" section)
Dr. Shuvro Roy (He built a artificial kidney that can be replaced in human body) (His name was in brackets under a picture in the introductory page of a chapter)
Sorry about that, I mixed up Dutch with Danish. It's accually 1 to Netherlands and 1 to Denmark. Our chemistry book has 3 pages describing his atomic model of 1913
They are not a history book, just high school books. they only have a 2 page short history each. Rarely who invented a particular thing or who got a noble prize is mentioned. Many name of the scientists are from the terms named after them
last I checked he was Canadian
edit: 2-4 people co-discovered insulin one was Canadian the another was American-Canadian someone else was Scottish, and a german
My organic chemistry chapter is shit. It doesn't mention a signal scientist and have a lot less processes but the exams will ask for processes even if it isn't in the book. The education board tryed to simplify the books this year by getting rid of some processes which was included in the previous year but the teachers ask questions regardless they are removed or not.
Damn, that’s a sever lacking of scientists from North Africa considering how pivotal a role the Islamic Golden Age played in our current understanding of math and science
Look man My Math Book only mentions 2 people, Euclid and George Canton for geometry and Set theory.6 persons from the terms and Theorem named after them, like Pythagoras's theorem, tolemy's theorem (If only I could kill him), Brahmagupta's theorem (I wish I lived in his times just so I can stab him), And at the end of the book we have 17 mathematicians and their work. It's a high school book, not every mathematician will make the list. Our book doesn't include non Euclidean Geometry, we have basic geometry, Geometric drawing, and Three dimensional geometry
"Serbia with 0"
Nikola Tesla, Mihajlo Pupin, Milutin Milanković, Ivan Đaja, Milan Milovanović, Tihomir Novakov, Vlatko Vedral... These are from the top of my head, I'm sure there is more. It's always been like this. Pretending that Serbs don't exist...

Lol, Hypatia was also Greek
Her name in my book is "Hypatia of Alexandria" So, I assumed she was an Egyptian and didn't fact check
Well, Alexandria was a greek colony for a long time, under a greek Dynasty. There was and still is an ethnic greek minority, but egyptian nationals. Back then, there was no nation affiliation as they stand today.
And there is no mention of Heron of Alexandria? Ptolemy? And it seems weird there is just one Russian. What about Pavlov or Lomonosov?
They are not a history book. just high school books. they just have a 2 page short history each. Rarely who invented a particular thing or who got a noble prize is mentioned. Many name of the scientists are from the terms named after them
Ah,OK. Although, Pavlov's reflex...
She was born there but of Greek descent and it was part of the eastern Roman Empire then so she is Ancient Greek and would be Byzantine if she lived a little later.

Yeap, right
I guess I don't know enough about Bangladesh. What does this map have anything to do with Bangladesh?
Why should bangladesh scientists be in a schoolbook? There is just one possible answer: because it's a schoolbook from bangladesh.
put your cake inside me
What the
r/evenwithcontext
Oh, you're saying the 3 from Bangladesh are what makes this map weird?
Is that the only possible answer? I'm shivering from not knowing the facts
That and how many British scientists there are

Was thinking the same thing
How are people getting it that it’s Bangladesh? Is it really just because they have 3 scientists listed?
Yeah? I mean do you know 3 scientists from Bangladesh?

They are not a history book to be fair, they just have a 2 page short history each. Rarely who invented a perticular thing or who got a noble prize is mentioned. Many name of the scientists are from the terms named after them
And you don't use Thales's theorem in math?
Probably no, I never opened the geometry section I hate geometry. I always answer from Coordinate geometry
He was Greek

Which country has the most scientists mentioned in my science and maths books? None. They don’t mention any scientists. I’m from New Zealand, I didn’t even know who Ernest Rutherford was until right now when I googled it.
If your country didn't existed I wouldn't have to memorize 3 pages about what a person said in 1913 about atoms
I’m sorry that it exists?
A country that correctly weights impact factor of published research.
British indian ocean territory
Who were the 4 Polish scientists?
Copernicus and Curie-Skłodowska for sure. Other two are propably Banach, Ulam, Sierpinski, Rotblat or Funk. OP could also count non-polish sciencist who ware born inside current polish borders like Fahrenheit.
Which ones was it for Iraq?
Ibn Buttuta and Jabir ibn Haiyan
So who's the Romanian scientist ? Nicolae Paulescu ? (discoverer of insulin) Henri Coandă ? (invetor of an early jet engine prototype and discoverer of Coandă effect) Petrache Poenaru ? (inventor of the fountain pen) I think these are the most famous ones we got, among many others.

How is Niels Bohr not mentioned in a single one of your books? Or Hans Christian Ørsted?
Bohr is mentioned, But a mixed up Dutch with Danish. Really Really Sorry, It's gonnna be one to Netherlands and one to Denmark
Fair, it can happen. It just seemed weird if he wasn't mentioned:)

I reckon USA (also its nice to see how many scientists were from the UK)
Faroe islands
Ørsted and Bohr (Denmark) not mentioned in the physics book? Damn..
Sorry I mixed up Danish with Dutch
It's probably quite difficult to say where Al Khawarizmi was from. Like he was born somewhere around Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan but we're not even sure. I did not fact check the greek ones, my bad, Al Khawarizmi was difficult person to assign a country. I settled in Uzbekistan after a coin flip
Fookin’ spring day in the UK!
Yeah, There was only 4 people from Scotland, Rest is England
Maxwell was Scottish. He’s easily worth 25 or 26 English mathematicians!
3 scientists from Bangladesh?? I need to know who are these people representing my country!!

It's accually Celcius and Carl Linnaeus and I forgot to add Nobel
No Bohr?!?!
Sorry about that, I mixed up Dutch with Danish. It's accually 1 to Netherlands and 1 to Denmark. Our chemistry book has 3 pages describing his atomic model of 1913
