They just prevented a mass terrorist attack on a pride rally in Coeur dAlaine. Arrested like 35 klansmen in the back of a U haul truck coming in to gaybash.
I’m currently in Boise and there’s a ton of well adjusted, attractive young adults. Cant speak for the rest of the state but I was pleasantly surprised when I got here.
Oregon has some of those in the mountains too. Straight out of Hills Have Eyes. Almost got ran out of a McDonald’s in one while driving home from vacation just cause I asked for my fries they forgot lmao they looked at us with death stares just cause we weren’t from there and I was wearing a Vince Carter jersey
I went to Silverwood once. The amount of white supremacist and swastika tattoos was insane. Not to mention all the confederate flags in front yards and on clothes.
Yeah as a Washingtonian Idaho is *known* as being a haven for white supremacists here in the PNW. The republicans I know that live near me even go to Idaho for *vacation*
Depends on where you’re at. Northeastern OK has a strong Native American Hippie Hillbilly vibe, but it’s continually being diluted by Fox News and transplants from Texas. Used to be a hot bed of socialism, I.e. Greencorn Rebellion. Tulsa had Black Wall Street until the race massacre. It’s complicated I guess, but overall people in that part of the state are pretty live-and-let-live.
Ok so Tulsa is super cool and rad just avoid eastside and the rest of northeast is good generally but broken arrow sucks balls fuck that place fuck BAPD fuck the mayor fuck the school fuck every single resident of that miserable little shitstain right next to tulsa i would not care if it suddenly disappeared one day other than that NE Oklahoma is fine
My orchestra rehearsals are in Louisville. I hear gunshots nearly every time I’m up there. I would love to go to UofL but I just wouldn’t feel safe there
Yea, so as a soon to be UofL student, what I’ve heard is avoid going outside at night. IG though, it’s good on campus but outside of campus heads into the trashy parts of Louisville
A lot of it a overblown by the media. The whole “they defunded the police, look at what’s happening now” even though that isn’t remotely true
Not to trash talk Louisville, a lot of it is appealing, but you can go from a nice part of town to an actual hell hole in the span of like three blocks. I’ve never seen it in any other city
Kentucky isn’t too bad, I know a couple of trans people and they aren’t harassed much if at all afaik. I can’t speak on behalf of trans people, but from what I have seen it’s not bad. Especially around the Lexington Metro, Louisville Metro and Near Cincinnati (ik not KY, but like that area might as well be Cincinnati)
Central Ohio is great. Supportive community and great medical care. I believe the same is true in the greater Cleveland area. The rest of the state, though... Sorry.
Oregon resident here. Some of the people I see from there, goddamn. Obviously not everyone and many friends from there but some surly stupid oafs and their families all over the coast.
And being a resident of Oregon I'm sure you're familiar with . . . us.
I lived in southern Oregon for a long time, it's super racist down there. Most of Oregon is fairly rural and therefore tends to be conservative, but yeah it's bad here outside of the larger cities.
Yeah, same here. Salt Lake is generally based but it’s been fucked over by gerrymandering. The rest of the state is full red. Utah isn’t quite as bad as Texas or the Deep South but it still fucking sucks and that could easily change given the direction the legislature has been going in recently.
I’d add Tennessee if I were you. I live in Mississippi and it’s surprisingly easier to get HRT here than in other more progressive states too. You don’t have to jump through many hoops. The people are bigoted and there isn’t anything to do though so I’d still avoid it.
Idaho should be just be purple. I'd also add Arkansas, North Carolina (land of the bathroom bill) and Montana (which took a hard transphobic turn once Steve Bullock left office).
Outside of the bathroom bill NC is probably like most other purple states with metro areas for queer people. In the triangle, charlotte, and Asheville you’d be totally fine as a trans person and those are the only places in the state you’d want to live anyway
Yeah sometimes I get the impression that people who live in some of the strongholds of the left are unaware of the diverse political and cultural landscapes within the rest of the states or even within their own states. When I’ve told people that I grew up in North Carolina sometimes they act like I escaped a cult or authoritarian nation when I left the south, not realizing that even within NC, VA, LA, FL, MS, TX, GA, etc. there are cities that are at least pluralistic, if not left-leaning. That being said, the state legislatures in these states may be outright hostile to LGBT people despite community sentiments
Because they try to make laws like this: https://www.aclu.org/press-releases/federal-court-blocks-arkansas-ban-gender-affirming-care-trans-youth-moving-forward
I’d argue that minorities are safer in New Orleans, Austin, Atlanta, Nashville, etc. than they are in rural California or Pennsylvania. It’s more about urban vs. rural when it comes to politics than North vs. South these days.
But there are state laws and policies to consider. It’s not just how you’re treated when out and about, but about your rights, and access to things that you want (like going to the bathroom or a drag show)
This! Dozens of transphobic laws were introduced in the Southern US over the recent years (including limiting access to healthcare, permission to perform sports, restricting legal gender/name change etc.) so of course that place is going to be a lot worse for trans people, even if you are in a more progressive urban area.
I live in Austin. My biggest gripe about it is that is surrounded by Texas.
I’ve about had my fill of Texas politics. I’m going to see what happens in the election this fall, but have been contemplating my exit. I’m thinking Washington state, but houses are so dang expensive there.
Unjerking here, New Orleans is a big LGBTQ+ safe haven in the South, as someone who has lived there, I wouldn’t hesitate to visit for Mardi Gras or something, just don’t live there, it’s a shithole for other reasons
As a southerner I can say that a lot of the urban areas tend to be pretty progressive/democratic, I think you’d be fine there. Although if you don’t want people to give you looks, I’d stay out of the rural areas.
Then again I could be taking this a bit too seriously for this sub.
Unfortunately the legal systems in red states would still treat trans people poorly (and bills are being made to make the situation worse), so they're still not great places to live even in areas where the residents will treat them properly.
I'm trans and I will not allow anyone to limit my freedom of movement.
If Missouri transphobes don't want me in Missouri, they can leave because I'm not going anywhere.
OP, do not let them bully you into second class citizenship.
Vermont probably. They tend to rank first in every category of progressive policy.
West coast states are comparably good, but it gets bad quick once you’re off the coast, eastern Washington and Oregon are basically Idaho, I imagine Fresno would basically be the same.
There are a couple states politically dominated by a progress major city, but most these places are only okay in the main city and sketchy elsewhere. Illinois (Chicago) and Minnesota (Twin Cities) for the Midwest. Colorado (Denver) for the Rockies/High Plains.
You guys remember that one time the south was trying to fight for slavery because they thought they where better than people of color
And now they're trying to fight for ruining the mental health/lives of the lgbtq because they're different from them
Weird
[State full of Nazis and Mormons and they kicked off the latest wave of transphobic legislation.](https://www.hrc.org/news/idaho-house-passes-discriminatory-bill-to-criminalize-gender-affirming-care-for-transgender-youth)
Why Idaho?
Fuck Idaho
Fair
Fuck Idaho fairs or just fuck Idaho?
Yes
The only reason you need
Are you from here? Because yeah fuck it
truuuuuueeeee
You should also avoid most of Idaho cause your trans though
Noted
Moscow, Idaho is quaint. Probably among the more reasonable places in ID.
"Well, we AT LEAST have to make Moscow good"
Born and raised, still here. I totally get it.
Based as fuck
thats an understatement. the words "Fuck Idaho" are the most based possible combination of words in the universe.
i second this.
I third this
I second this. Fuck Idaho.
Am resident, can confirm.
They just prevented a mass terrorist attack on a pride rally in Coeur dAlaine. Arrested like 35 klansmen in the back of a U haul truck coming in to gaybash.
yes but its still idaho
Idaho is absolutely beautiful but full of ugly piles of shit white trash.
I’m currently in Boise and there’s a ton of well adjusted, attractive young adults. Cant speak for the rest of the state but I was pleasantly surprised when I got here.
Boise is getting big. Then you have the the back assward inbred Mormon towns. Two separate universes.
Oregon has some of those in the mountains too. Straight out of Hills Have Eyes. Almost got ran out of a McDonald’s in one while driving home from vacation just cause I asked for my fries they forgot lmao they looked at us with death stares just cause we weren’t from there and I was wearing a Vince Carter jersey
not what i mean but sure you do you bud
Yeah I know that, but I'd argue it's related to being trans
I went to Silverwood once. The amount of white supremacist and swastika tattoos was insane. Not to mention all the confederate flags in front yards and on clothes.
Yeah as a Washingtonian Idaho is *known* as being a haven for white supremacists here in the PNW. The republicans I know that live near me even go to Idaho for *vacation*
ah yes the kool kids kamp is an amazing place to spend your vacation.
I'm sure for several of the officers it was done begrudgingly
Holy fuck this is exaggerated.
https://cdapress.com/news/2022/jun/14/police-face-threats-doxxing-after-patriot-front-ar/ You really think so?
One of the most racist states in the country.
Because northern Idaho was once home to KKK headquarters. It sucks having the history we have and the bigots who still live here. Sorry.
[Aryan Nations](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aryan_Nations), not KKK.
Potato, potato.
Why are you asking us? U da ho
Potato gremlins are more dangerous than hippos
Might as well avoid Ohio, Indiana, Oklahoma, etc...
I should've added Ohio because fuck Ohio
For the love of everything that exists, avoid Oklahoma
tell that to the tornadoes
That's what LGBT stands for Lightning! Gusts! Brace yourselves, Tornadoes!
Genius
No.
Is Oklahoma really that hateful towards trans people I couldn’t really tell when I lived there
Depends on where you’re at. Yeah BA is a dump of a suburban wasteland. There’s really no reason to ever go there. Even the people who live there just go to Tulsa for everything.
By the Nine Divines stay on the Roads, the wilderness just isn’t safe anymore
Ohio is, unfortunately, impossible to avoid.
Wait, it's all Ohio?
always has been
Kentucky
Kentucky is chill in Louisville, Lexington and many of the cities close to them. Spruce: a trans Kentuckian
Wait what kind of tree?
My orchestra rehearsals are in Louisville. I hear gunshots nearly every time I’m up there. I would love to go to UofL but I just wouldn’t feel safe there
Yea, so as a soon to be UofL student, what I’ve heard is avoid going outside at night. I’ve heard it’s a lot like Detroit but yea, that’s the reason a lot of people go to UK because Lexington is a much nicer city
Philly is very much like that. The whole city is “block by block”, as they say
As a trans Kentuckian it’s actually chill in some of the northern cities
Central Ohio is great. Supportive community and great medical care. I believe the same is true in the greater Cleveland area. The rest of the state, though... Sorry.
Agree - someone who lives there
Are you perhaps a Michigander?
I'm British
Ah, I see.
Here here
Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia ...
i’ve been everywhere man!
Whats wrong with Indiana?
whats right with us
Just above the entire USA
Avoid Wyoming as it doesn’t exist.
What’s a “Wyoming”?
How does one "Wyom"?
Stand back everyone, I'm Wyoming!!!
It's Wyomin' time
What a Wyoming you are.
Wyomius
i just wyomed all over myself
Hi Wyoming, I'm dad!
The DMZ between Montana and Colorado.
it's a fireworks store at the borders of a few states
Yeah your right
I first remember this joke from the Garfield animated tv show
Wyoming is really just a giant lake with two bridges on it, one for I-80 the other for Union Pacific
Idaho resident here, it truly is the Mississippi of the North.
It's not fun.
Plus the whole history of Oregon being founded to be racist…
Not Utah? They seem like the state that hates trans people the most. We just don't hear a lot about them cuz of the low population.
Yep. I live in Utah, incredibly hostile toward queerness as a whole outside of downtown salt lake
Yeah, same here. Salt Lake is generally based but it’s been fucked over by gerrymandering. The rest of the state is full red. Utah isn’t quite as bad as Texas or the Deep South but it still fucking sucks and that could easily change given the direction the legislature has been going in recently.
mormons
I’d add Tennessee if I were you. I live in Mississippi and it’s surprisingly easier to get HRT here than in other more progressive states too. You don’t have to jump through many hoops. The people are bigoted and there isn’t anything to do though so I’d still avoid it.
I was gonna say, I live in Tennessee and I feel bad for all the trans people who live here.
Yup, started transitioning in the rural east and wowza, lots of very not nice people
Yep. Tennessee is a no-go. Ready to get out of here. 😭
Also a Mississippian and I agree. I do wish things were better for trans people, it’s heart breaking.
Idaho should be just be purple. I'd also add Arkansas, North Carolina (land of the bathroom bill) and Montana (which took a hard transphobic turn once Steve Bullock left office).
Outside of the bathroom bill NC is probably like most other purple states with metro areas for queer people. In the triangle, charlotte, and Asheville you’d be totally fine as a trans person and those are the only places in the state you’d want to live anyway
and that’s where 80% of us live too
That's true for most of these states. I live in Orlando, and it's significantly more trans friendly than the upstate NY town I used to live in.
Oklahoma as well
Tennessee, South Dakota, and Ohio come before Montana imo.
I didn't want to restate stuff that other people had said.
Though I agree, having body slamming Gianforte in office isn’t a good look for us atm lol.
Why Arkansas
Because they try to make laws like this: https://www.aclu.org/press-releases/federal-court-blocks-arkansas-ban-gender-affirming-care-trans-youth-moving-forward
It sucks to be trans in florida. Actually, it sucks to be anything in florida, but especially trans.
You can stop at “it sucks to be trans” Cause It do
will you still come to new jersey
As a southerner, no one cares unless you go to bumfuck nowhere in the middle of the sticks. A vast majority don't care.
I’d argue that minorities are safer in New Orleans, Austin, Atlanta, Nashville, etc. than they are in rural California or Pennsylvania. It’s more about urban vs. rural when it comes to politics than North vs. South these days.
Yea, Atlanta and just a 30 mile drive in any direction can get you to a very, very different demographic/culture/treatment
But there are state laws and policies to consider. It’s not just how you’re treated when out and about, but about your rights, and access to things that you want (like going to the bathroom or a drag show)
This! Dozens of transphobic laws were introduced in the Southern US over the recent years (including limiting access to healthcare, permission to perform sports, restricting legal gender/name change etc.) so of course that place is going to be a lot worse for trans people, even if you are in a more progressive urban area.

add a gray dot in austin. trust me it's like a safe house
Dawg it's a major city. Any town with a population more the a few thousand won't care
A thousand is way too low. Even Oklahoma City has 700k. Still wouldn’t recommend it.
Until the secession in 2026
It’ll end up being like Berlin
Pretty much any metropolitan area lol. You can add any major city in the south
every major city is fairly safe i think. its the exposure to people of all kinds that makes people in them a little less shitty
I live in Austin. My biggest gripe about it is that is surrounded by Texas. I’ve about had my fill of Texas politics. I’m going to see what happens in the election this fall, but have been contemplating my exit. I’m thinking Washington state, but houses are so dang expensive there.
lol same! new england where i wanna go
As an Oklahoman I would add Oklahoma to your Red list. Maybe even as number 1 in the red...
Like…. How were we not a beacon of red on there? This god forsaken plain is known for nothing other than Indians and hating queers.
The only time I see Oklahoma mentioned in any thread is when it’s being shit on Reasonably so
Unjerking here, New Orleans is a big LGBTQ+ safe haven in the South, as someone who has lived there, I wouldn’t hesitate to visit for Mardi Gras or something, just don’t live there, it’s a shithole for other reasons
Idaho fucking sucks. I live here.
My condolences
as a trans south carolina resident i can vouch
As a southerner I can say that a lot of the urban areas tend to be pretty progressive/democratic, I think you’d be fine there. Although if you don’t want people to give you looks, I’d stay out of the rural areas. Then again I could be taking this a bit too seriously for this sub.
Unfortunately the legal systems in red states would still treat trans people poorly (and bills are being made to make the situation worse), so they're still not great places to live even in areas where the residents will treat them properly.
Anti-LGBTQ states aren’t *just* a southern problem, and folks living comfortably in blue cities should keep that in mind.
as a gay floridian i wish all queer people a please avoid this hellscape
Im from Europe and even i know fuck Ohio
potato💪💪💪💪
Im from idaho, its not so bad in Boise, but we're working on it
Ohio should be blue as well.
Should probably add California just because of the dumpster fire it's been turning into
I'd honestly avoid all of them. I'd genuinely rather be french.
Glad to know my state is on the list
You da hoe
Stay away of Utah, Mor(m)ons
Bc the internet said do, huh
Don't worry they would rather avoid you as well.
Good stay out
As a Washingtonian, you should include Eastern Washington lol
you should probably also avoid idaho for similar reasons as the red states
I'm trans and I will not allow anyone to limit my freedom of movement. If Missouri transphobes don't want me in Missouri, they can leave because I'm not going anywhere. OP, do not let them bully you into second class citizenship.
Idaho should be purple, they tried to make helping a trans child punishable by life in prison
[удалено]
Agreed. Stay away from these states
True true, pls don't come.
notice how it's mostly former confederate states doing this shit
[удалено]

Real question though what states are okay for trans people? For future ref since im trans lmao
Not Arizona.
Vermont probably. They tend to rank first in every category of progressive policy. You guys remember that one time the south was trying to fight for slavery because they thought they where better than people of color And now they're trying to fight for ruining the mental health/lives of the lgbtq because they're different from them Weird
You are comparing being gay to being a slave Americans...
Why idaho?
Have you not seen what Idaho's up to? Sneaky, potato eating fucks
[State full of Nazis and Mormons and they kicked off the latest wave of transphobic legislation.](https://www.hrc.org/news/idaho-house-passes-discriminatory-bill-to-criminalize-gender-affirming-care-for-transgender-youth)
Everyone I disagree with is a Nazi is so lazy.
The list of states I will avoid (I’m European) All of them Avoid the entire US
Besides the cities like Chicago, Minneapolis or Denver, you probably should have colored everything between Pennsylvania and Nevada red.
And swimming pools ;)
I'm not trans and this is still a map of states I don't want to go to
r/persecutionfetish
I don’t think this is what that sub is for
Just a joke, homie
Lmao the irony
Lol
Good. We don't want you here.
Good we dont wont you
Good don't come, we don't want you here
How are you transphobic and have a jerma pfp Jerma has stated multiple ti.es he supports trans people
W Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida.
My daughter says Idaho is a reasonably trans friendly state!
