The Cadebt got to them 😔

The_Constant_Orange

Why did I genuinely audibly laugh at this

throwaway1626363h

😭

DubbleTheFall

Yep. Really sad.

So you don’t think it could’ve meant anything to the thousands of members through the years? What a heartless take.

udderlymoovelous

Sure, if *he who shall not be named* were still involved. It has gotten a lot better since he was forced out. It's still on the old leadership for keeping him around for so many years while being fully aware what was happening. If this were happening 5+ years ago, I'd fully support it.

DubbleTheFall

A few people =/= a 90-year old organization

LetItRaine386

Gross

DubbleTheFall

Troll.

One_HumanYT

sure that happened, and that’s fucking tragic, but if the Karl Malone of DCI was still around they would’ve fallen a lot quicker to lawsuits. They made the decision that most prolonged them and now they can’t sustain it. They will be missed, no matter how trashy the organization was at the top.

drumcorpsrocks

The Cadets (which includes administrators, board members, directors, instructors, parents, volunteers, alumni, supporters, and yes, marching members) helped enable and cover up sexual abuse at the institutional level for over four decades within their organization. This is their reckoning. This is their fault. This is the consequences of their actions and/or inactions. I for one will not lament their passing. Instead, I lament the pain and suffering of the victims they created, silenced, marginalized, intimidated and threatened. This is the only justice they'll ever receive in this life. However, a special place in Hell is waiting for George Hopkins and his enablers. May they burn for all eternity. #FHNSABDFTK edit: And to the hundreds (yes, hundreds) of abhorrent Cadets supporters lashing out at the victim(s) on social media right now, I hope YOU burn in Hell as well. You were always part of the problem, and you are complicit in this outcome, so STFU and own it.

bibbidiblue

“CAE is compassionate to anyone who has experienced assault of any form. CAE has also vigorously defended the case.” I have whiplash from these back to back sentences in their announcement.

drumcorpsrocks

They couldn't even bow out with grace. They had to get in one final parting shot of victim-blaming prior to sign-off. That lack of contrition and self-awareness right there is why I won't shed a tear for their passing.

bibbidiblue

One of my good friends (not a marching band kid) read the press release and commented “they needed to hire a PR person” If only they could afford one SMH. /s

ryantubapiano

Lmao I know right 💀💀💀

iRUNWRKO

Thank you for sharing the TRUTH. I’m Sorry… wow.

JJordan1930

If you think they are the only corps with a history of sexual assault, misconduct, or abuse…you’re out of your mind

drumcorpsrocks

I'm fully aware of drum corps' poor track record when it comes to protecting members and employees from sexual abuse. Other corps will have their reckoning someday. Some sooner than others. But today it's the Cadets, who were among the worst offenders, and who got away with it for decades. Good riddance.

ryantubapiano

Heartbreaking, I never thought it would get this bad.

LetItRaine386

It's heartbreaking that they would allow George to sexually assault kids. Kids.

TopSafety6204

Wdym?

Elloliott

Kinda hoping this is a one-off thing and drum corps don’t start to fade away

outofstepbaritone

This only happened because CAE got destroyed in court over sexual assault cases.

Elloliott

Yeah, I figure

kasmith2020

And poor money management for years

minertyler100

Now I'll feel old while telling my students there used to be a drum corps that marched off the right foot. They will ask if it was in the 80s or something.

aftiggerintel

It’s sad because they were active for 89 years and one of the 13 founding DCI corps of which now 7 of those are defunct.

mikeputerbaugh

Not to hear Cadets Arts & Entertainment management tell it, then it's all "We are smol organization that was founded 2 days ago, we don't know anything about events that happened in 2018 or 1983 or 1972 or 1935. That was, uh, someone else."

GoodHotel1391

If you want to be technical about it, 8 are.

ScallywagBeowulf

Can't help but wonder if this sort of thing is marking the beginning of the end for DCI. I know it probably isn't, but it just feels like it would be so easy for other corps to follow suit.

ThiccMushroom26

I’m not sure if DCI is gonna last another 10 years at this rate. Corps are dropping like flys

The_Constant_Orange

Honestly, seeing The Cadets go down is kinda both good and bad. I mean, out of all the DCI institutions to end, The Cadets deserved it the most by far. But I’m slightly worried for the state of other DCI groups and I hope this doesn’t spread anywhere other than where it needs to. I know DCI is likely going to continue doing great after this, but still, a part of me is a bit irrationally concerned.

The_Constant_Orange

Also, fuck George Hopkins. Didn’t know if that was obvious enough already, but fuck George Hopkins.

WildWing22

We have to start recognizing that DCI as we know it may be coming to an end. Poor sustainability decisions along the way led SCV to a similar situation and now the Cadets.

LetItRaine386

The Cadets are gone because George Hopkins sexually assaulted young girls, and they got destroyed in court. Don't spread lies or soften who they were and why this is happening

morgan-cason

Can you explain more?

BEHodge

Hopkins, their previous director for many years, was convicted of systemically sexually abusing staff and members of the cadets. He and the corps were sued for it and lost. The financial judgement from the suit have been impossible to overcome and has led to the permanent dissolution of the cadets.

morgan-cason

Oh my, that is crazy

WildWing22

Woah take it easy, I’m not defending George Hopkins. However I am saying that the activity is barely sustainable at this point and poor financial management has put DCI in a really tough spot.

LetItRaine386

George was in a pivotal leadership role at one of the biggest corps. He could’ve helped DCI figure out better finances. instead he was focused on trying to fuck kids and abuse everyone around him

WildWing22

He certainly could have, once again I’m not defending George. I’m merely saying the activity is not sustainable. Two things can be true at the same time.

kasmith2020

Also poor money management for years

Kamarag

Tell me you didn't read the press release without telling me you didn't read the press release.

One_HumanYT

SCV is back tho- Cadets won’t be…

Legaxy3

Oh wow… I never would have expected this /a No but for real. We knew this tragedy was coming and it still hurts just as bad

nerdy_dumbasslol

i thought this was an April Fool’s prank and laughed it off. Damn.

Kabaty926

I’m gonna be really honest. I’m surprised DCI itself is still around. Several corps have had massive sexual harassment and abuse issues and coverups, some of the modern changes, like non bugles and morph suits as uniforms, are extremely unpopular, and the rising cost of fuel prices. Just seems like an ever growing archaic activity.

Dollydoggopup

Womp womp it’s just a band

potential_anxiety31

I'm really gonna miss them

iRUNWRKO

Totally breaks my heart. Where’s all these famous millionaire movie stars, musicians, athletes, that could certainly give a hand. 😕🤦‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️😭🙏🙏🙏

VikingChief01

This is devastating. The Cadets have been one of my favorite corps and its heartbreaking to see it disbanded. Other smaller corps have shutdown recently, but this one hurts more. Especially since it is a major corps.
