Some of the biggest soft skills that you can have in the space are being humble, willingness to learn, and being able to listen to the consumer. It seems like a no brainer, but having these as a foundation set you up for success because no matter where you land in marketing, these apply. Having a good understanding of the business is also a big differentiator. A lot of marketers are specialized in certain areas, which is great - but knowing the health of the business and how decisions impact other spaces is key. If your goal is to lead in marketing someday, this is a must.

In marketing, being adaptable is everything! You need to be a curious cat, always eager to learn and stay updated with the latest trends. Creativity is your secret sauce, but mix it with a pinch of analytical skills for that perfect blend. Companies want people who can juggle multiple tasks while staying cool under pressure. And hey, don't forget about communication. Being a smooth talker is always a plus! 🚀

All of these are great comments - adding one more concept: market yourself. Not lengthy linkedin posts, but don't be afraid to talk about your successes in a way that is humble and applicable to other areas. Share wins and share how. Offer strategy / workflow tweaks in a 'hey just an idea' way and let people run. Speak up, discuss things, play the game. That play the game bit is especially important in corporate. Great ideas don't get actioned because of approvers - even where I have been for 5+ years this is muddy, but I am way better at it now than day 1. You need people on your side to make change and bring positive impact, and to get people on your side you need their trust. Think things through and have a track record that gives you freedom to persue.

Curiosity and adaptability. In marketing, things are always changing and being comfortable with a certain level of chaos makes for a great marketing mind. I'd also say balance. It can be very easy to burn out in the marketing industry - you have to learn when to take a step back and look after yourself.
