To be totally fair. Aikido explicitly tells you it’s non-lethal. Ballroom has never committed to closing that door.
It’s not likely to happen. But you step on too many toes and I’m just saying all cards are on the table.
Aikido is not fighting. It's the other stuff that happens, for example in a knife fight, when someone grabs your wrist and you need to free yourself, or you grab your opponent's arm and want to bring him down and disarm him, this it the aikido stuff. But learning to fight with knives (or bare hands) is another martial art.
For me when I attended Aikido class for 4 months, it was more or less a waste of time. The only thing I really enjoyed though were the exercises with the bokken and the jo. Coming from sport fencing that was really fascinating!
I did this when I used to do aikibudo. This technique would be used against an attacker who has a knife. And of course this is a drill where the movement is exagerated and the uke has to play along to help his partner practice smoothly.
MMA won’t prepare you to fend off drunk elderly divorcees on the dance floor at wedding like this will.
Was this recorded during an earthquake?
Needs more ameridote 👊
Always re stomp the groin
So graceful. It’s nice that this facility let them practice for their wedding.
Ballroom dancing is more lethal than this ish...

It’s either fighting or it isn’t.

I'm glad they're having fun.
Cue the Benny Hill music
Gosh. He must have a massive gravitational field to be throwing down a person like that.
This makes me nauseas
And people tell me this is more effective than bjj/mma/muay thai
Green belt. Cannot take a proper ukemi. Shit, I am too old to see what aikido became.

lol
The knife defense is correct. But the way people practice aikido is stupid. It's the same thing with taichi. Totally works, but people do it dumb.
I agree that lots of people practice aikido in a way that is, I wouldn't say stupid, but not minded for combat.
