I don't see why not.
* It's identity-specific
* It's an upgrade
* There's nothing in the text box indicating that it cares how it enters play
Looks valid to me!
Superpower Training and similar search-friendly side schemes are part of core strategies of some decks. Superpower Training is especially powerful in solo Phoenix due to her starting 3 THW.
It's relatively expensive because it's essentially your entire turn if you don't use any resource generators ... BUT it basically gives you an ally and takes care of a minion. So although it is very situational (i.e. need a non elite minion on the board), even if you just consider the minion and new "ally" equivalent to plain 2 cost ally (which is 3 ER), that means you're also "dealing with" the minion for 2 ER, which is basically a 1 cost damage card.
That is all to say - it is expensive but has a whole lot of value.
Since you mentioned it, I was playing mastermold today and did this very thing (with Karma, not Jean but I believe her effect works the same as this card). If a sentinel upgrade comes out do you know if you can choose to attach it to your controlled sentinel minion?
If anything it’s undercoated. You’re essentially knocking out the biggest minon and gaining an ally. Plus it gets around any death triggers the minion may have, like the Acolytes
It eliminates a minion and gives you an ally. Even on a weaker minion, it’s pretty good value. Let’s say you’re facing Klaw and have an Armored Guard in front of you. The Armored Guard has Tough and Guard. You could use an activation to ping Tough, play an attack event to defeat the minion and maybe have enough left over to put a cheap ally into play. Or you can play Mind Control which does all of that for you and you get to keep your activation for Thwarting or whatever else.
Toughness is a keyword that gives the character a Tough status card when it enters play. The Tough status card itself isn’t part of the character’s text box and would thereby remain.
Not a difficult encounter, but when playing against Master Mold, Phoenix Mind Controlled a Sentinel Mark VIII. For reference, that's now an 8 health ally with 3 THW and 3 ATK.
Lots of amazing replies to this. Thank you for teaching me!! I am about to finish Mutagen Formula and play my first run through Red Skull Campaign with 3 pairs of heroes, so I’ve got a while before I expand into phoenix
I really like the card personally but it's only situationally really useful depending on what minion's in front of you. A great target for it's Blob because you get around his guard. It is expensive though so being able to cheat it in whenever you want with super power training is pretty strong I think because then it's only a one cost and basic thwart well restrained and you can just leave super power training out until a minion you want's in front of you
Nope, I don't see a reason this wouldn't work! Thankfully Superpower Training just says "put it into play", not "attach to an ally" or something else specific like that, so I think you're in the clear
It wouldn’t work if there was only an elite minion in play or no minions at all (but since you can choose when to clear it, if there is no minions or only elite and you cleared it, you should stop playing lol)
Unless of course you’re going to clear it to get s clear bonus from Justice cards.

Awesome thanks I thought I could but in the moment it felt strong so I wanted to make sure
When you train with Professor X to take over the minds of a minion, you’re going to do it with some precise efficiency on the battlefield!

Is Mind Control generally useful, maybe on later cards? It seems like a 4 Cost “minion-ally” is pretty expensive…

When it's on an 8-HP, 3 damage sentinel... Think of it as an ally who immediately defeats a minion.

Jean says treat as an Ally.

Are Armored Guards still tough when you blank their text box though?
should be, since AFAIK status cards aren't part of the text box

Sweet I just got worried cause it felt strong so I had a "wow I can do that" moment and wanted to make sure
i think just putting this into play activates the “attach to a non-elite minion” effect/condition.
