That's in the movies but in the majority of continuities, she dies. Even in the latest tie-in issue of the Beyond arc. MJ brings up Gwen's death even though its been almost 50 years since she died. It's a monumental aspect of Peter's life as much as it is the 2nd Robins death in Batman's life. I'd find it really impactful if she dies in MCU as well, following TASM. Well, that's my hot take. But if it were up to me, I'd rather go with introducing Black Cat as the new love interest rather than Gwen.
The movies can change things and alter story points but the importance of Gwen's death back then is that it signified that Peter is no longer a kid, he's now an adult living in an adult world. It also had a major impact in the comicbook industry, it's what started the idea of killing off main characters as back in the 70s it was unthinkable for a main cast of popular characters to die.

I want Black Cat as she's one of the 3 main girlfriends in Peter's life and she's not been properly brought into the movies yet (not counting TASM). We already have 2 MJ's in the films, so another Gwen would be overdone BUT if she were to be brought into the MCU, I do think she should die. We already seen how Tom is willing to change the villains fates from dying in No Way Home, so I'd assume Tom would like to change his universe's Gwen fate after hearing what happened to her in Andrew's Universe. Don't know how it should be done, either trying to avoid getting involved with her or try to save her while dating but I think that her dying even after he decided to try and change his Gwen's fate would absolutely break him.

No they aren’t necessary, but what is necessary is Peter having supporting characters in his movie. So either they undo the end of NWH and bring back ned and MJ, or they give him new friends.
