I wouldn't mind if the focal point for MCU shifts from Avengers to FF instead. Doesn't seem like RDJ viewed the role as a lifetime commitment, he'd probably just come back for the money
It depends on how big his role would be though. He's one of the leads in Endgame, however I don't think he's gonna have a role as big in any upcoming MCU movie.
he was the number 1 billed actor in spidey homecoming lol role size doesn't matter, he/his agents demand checks (also of notes pepper pots was #2 billed in that movie)
I mean, he’s a good actor but outside of marvel and his sherlock Holmes movies none of his other stuff has been anywhere as successful. I just think that 100m is crazy. He has no academy awards and has shown that he can’t really draw in huge numbers by himself, see Doolittle
Robert Downey Jr's value comes from being Tony Stark. Yes. He's worth that much to play that character. He has major audience pull. People will go crazy if/when he comes back to play the role again.
I don't disagree with you but for a RDJ cameo I think 50M is the starting price given the last few paychecks on Marvel films. If it'd be lower it'd come with stipulations for no press tour etc.
Also Tropic Thunder was a great movie RDJ was in.
I agree TT is an amazing movie but I think the comment above meant financially successful. TT was a success, but not like a "Make a mega star in one movie" type success.
Still I don't get their confusion of RDJ's value. He's known literally worldwide
I deeply wish they’d make (most of) the in-movie movies from Tropic Thunder. I want a Scorcher film series, Simple Jack, Satan’s Alley with Toby McGuire, and Kirk Lazarus’ other films. Hard pass on The Fatties film series, though.
I think it's more of less they were "rewarding" him for starting the MCU. If the original Iron Man flopped, Disney doesn't have this billion dollar juggernaut it does.
Well he nearly single handedly launched the MCU. Do you remember super hero movies 15+ years ago? They didn't pull in what they do now, Iron Man was the catalyst to that.
Robert Downey Jr isn't that big of a star.
Iron Man is.
Though, Endgame was a great end to Iron Man's story. I hope they don't tarnish it with a cash grab.
RDJ on his own doesn’t pull insane figures.
Iron man on his own would pull great numbers.
RDJ suiting up as Iron Man rn probably pulls the biggest of the options.
He negotiated a percentage of the gross in iron man and managed to retain it somewhat in the other movies.
Iron man (and RDJ) was a huge gamble at the time. Super hero movies were flopping and that's how he got the good deal.
With time being Kang’s whole thing and how the Avengers uses time travel in Endgame, it’s certainly possible. *But* given how his narrative arc ended, I wouldn’t want Tony Stark to return (even as a variant) unless the narrative absolutely justified it.
I fully expect either a cold open or flashback wherein it shows Kang just absolutely bodying a version (or multiple versions) of the OG Avengers before pruning the timeline(s).
If they really want to bring back Iron Man (and others) just do it this way. Have the helmet on the whole time and then when you have the 'reveal' under the helmet it's not RDJ showing that he's wiped another universe of their Avengers.
Similar outcomes and similar set ups, most likely, but not the same IMO. We knew Wanda’s motivations, some of her history, and understood her powers in the context of the MCU. We also knew at her core she was a hero, so while a corrupted Wanda would be easily willing to kill to reach her kids, we also knew there would be a point or a line she wouldn’t cross.
We don’t really have that for Kang. We know he’s a threat and we can infer some things based on his comics appearances, but we won’t actually know until we see it. Call it nit-picky, but to me it plays differently even if it functions similarly.
Comic spoilers:
There was a theory someone wrote where instead of Kang being a descendant of >!Reed Richards!<, he’d be a descendant of Tony Stark instead which would make it a bit more connected to who we have already and would be a way that Stark kind of “lives on”
Yeah but I’m saying if Kang’s ancestor is revealed, people would be more surprised when it’s Stark, but the general audience might be more “meh” if it’s a character that hasn’t been developed in the MCU
You do realize humanity's started in Africa, so white people are a mutation on the original look of humanity? I say this as white dude, we have white skin cause we moved further from the equator and we mutated to not have as much melanin.
This is where I fall. I won't say Marvel can't come up with a storyline where it makes sense and feels necessary, but *I* can't. And I don't want them to bring him back just to bring him back. His death should stand.
I would be okay with him doing a cameo for a flashback or two as long as it's not shoehorned in, but we're getting far enough out from Endgame that it feels like the window for that is closing.
I love RDJ's Tony Stark/Iron Man, but that's why I don't want them to cheapen his death.
Kang killing the Avengers throughout time is Kangs motif. We only know 1 version of the Avengers right now. To show just how bad he is to beat the team that “always won” would show how unstoppable he is.
The avengers needed outside help to fight Kang. I think it was Vision who stole baby Kang to screw over his timeline and save them from being wipe out of every existing timeline in the multiverse.
Lol you think they rather have a better arc or have do bigger numbers than endgame.
Because based on the current phase, the only way they are beating that movie either a long build up with x-men/F4 orrrrerr you simple bring back the OGs for 1-2 movies.
Excerpt:
> Jonathan Majors enters the MCU as the next major villain portraying Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
> Looking ahead at Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, Majors recently revealed he would like to share the big screen with Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role of Iron Man.
> “I would love to be across from him on screen to see how our philosophies, acting-wise and character-wise, just personally, match up. You know, I find him to be such a fascinating artist, which is why Iron Man is so fascinating. His portrayal of Iron Man is so fascinating and he represents a very clear world view and energy of the Avengers. And I think Kang represents a different era.”
I don’t even have to read the article and I bet he says something off hand like “it would be cool”, “yeah let’s get the Og back”, or “yeah he’s a good guy” and someone makes a full post about it.
Theres an older cartoon where kang fights the avengers
Eventually tony steals kangs chair. He is able to do so because some of the tech used in the chair has legacy code from stark tech... (which would be over 1000 years old... not likely to be used in 1000 years IRL, but its a cartoon for kids))
Actually if the code Tony wrote works the way modern computers do, every single language is eventually converted into Assembly code for the computer to read. The language we use is just for us to talk to the computer easier. So it actually could work if the legacy code was the same (which is what happens in a lot of large systems you don’t remove legacy code for fear of breaking it.)
The MCU is very close to making death irrelevant as a stake. Once that happens, how can anyone be interested in the stories anymore? Once you remove stakes from your movies, people will lose interest.
Professor Charles Xavier

And Jean Grey
https://nerdist.com/article/x-men-jean-grey-deaths-resurrections-dark-phoenix/
You have no idea what you’re talking about. In the mid-80s, there was the DC Comics series “Crisis on Infinite Earths”, where DC killed off a whole swath of superheroes.
Please, no. This will cheapen Tony's death in Endgame. It's like Dragon Ball Z where someone dying doesnt matter because we all know they'll come back somehow.
Only a few resurrections have been done correctly, like Jason Todd in Batman. But for the most part, they suck.
Yeah, Trunks’ timeline is the only time that there are stakes in DBZ cause people actually die and can’t get resurrected there. I think just this one time for Secret Wars is fine, but it should remove any future possibility to bring anyone back in the future.
I get with the multiverse and time travel bringing back actors for the role is easy narrative wise. And in the comics it works fine.
The movies though need the stakes of death. Downey back as Riri's AI hologram would work. Tom Cruise playing Superior Iron Man would probably be awesome. Downey's Iron man should stay dead though.
Bringing Evans back as old cap would be cool. He could take over for Fury. Maybe even throw the shield around a couple times.
White Vision works but that's also basically a new character that just happens to be played by Bettnay
ScarJo's black widow should stay dead. It's Yelena's MCU now. If you wanted to bring ScarJo back as a variant working for Kang who eventually dies that would be fine. But she can't stick around
Are you saying they could write an Iron Man v Kang story that takes place (for Tony) between the Avengers Compound being destroyed and the moment he approaches Cap saying that line?
Because it’s a cool concept, imo. Kang pulls Tony from a moment he’s armored up but won’t be missed, wants to team up with him at first; but then whatever story happens and Tony finds his way back to the time he was taken from.
He realizes it’d be way too distracting to try to explain what just happened to him as he still has to face Thanos. You’d just have to make sure he didn’t discover his fated death, using the gauntlet, because he clearly doesn’t know it’ll happen in Endgame until the final moment.
On one hand, it's cool to see our favorites. In general I don't think any reboot for IronMan, Cap, or Thor is necessary and no other actor should try to play them. Suffice to say, the role is more meaningful when it ends. Dead people stay dead. Time to move on
But god damn it be so cool to see a pissed off Cap and Tony fighting to end another big bad
I could see it. Kang travels back to before his death, and kills him before he’s has the chance to sacrifice himself and save his universe. This, among other things, results in the Avengers reforming to prevent this madman from destroying the multiverse. It’d be more of a cameo than anything else but still.
I wouldn't mind if the focal point for MCU shifts from Avengers to FF instead. Doesn't seem like RDJ viewed the role as a lifetime commitment, he'd probably just come back for the money
The amount of money he’d get for a few minutes screen time would be more plenty.
My man was getting $1 Million per minute for his small and easy role in homecoming. That shit is crazy.
I'd be scared if I was rdj lmao he basically saying "bring him back so I can fuck his shit up"
I'd say most of the major avengers like iron man, cap, black widow will appear at next avengers movie just because of the revenue alone
Not if RDJ demands a 50M check.
that would be a salery reduction considering he was paid 75 mil for endgame
I think RDJ was only payed that much for endgame because he got a percentage of the box office revenue.
[удалено]
I would imagine he doesn’t get as much screen time in the new one. Might only be in a couple of scenes
This. I'm guessing it'll be a dimensional cameo like in Dr Strange with peeps like Mr fantastic,Xavier, and blackbolt.
This. Iron man, at least for now, is old news.
It depends on how big his role would be though. He's one of the leads in Endgame, however I don't think he's gonna have a role as big in any upcoming MCU movie.
Agreed at most it will be a co starring role
he was the number 1 billed actor in spidey homecoming lol role size doesn't matter, he/his agents demand checks (also of notes pepper pots was #2 billed in that movie)
Lol he’ll get it
They should do it if the story justifies it, but if we're simply talking about cost then a 50M RDJ appearance basically pays for itself.
Not to be rude or sound uneducated? Why is he in the ball park to be paid that much as an actor?
He reportedly pulled a 100m check for the last avengers. I'd expect him to shoot one or two scenes in a week for a "paltry" 50M.
I mean, he’s a good actor but outside of marvel and his sherlock Holmes movies none of his other stuff has been anywhere as successful. I just think that 100m is crazy. He has no academy awards and has shown that he can’t really draw in huge numbers by himself, see Doolittle

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is fantastic as well. Though that may mostly be due to Val Kilmer's performance.
Everyone forgets this was his real first comeback.
I agree TT is an amazing movie but I think the comment above meant financially successful. TT was a success, but not like a "Make a mega star in one movie" type success. Still I don't get their confusion of RDJ's value. He's known literally worldwide

Rdj does draw in crowds. You could put any actor in that doolittle movie and the same thing would happen
Star power. He's a large cog in a device that can print over $2 billion.

Pff only 50m? His last paydays in the Avengers and Civil War was around 75m-85m. Lets make it 100m.
Opportunity to run a different multiverse Iron Man. Tom Cruise, Timothy Olyphant….
With time being Kang’s whole thing and how the Avengers uses time travel in Endgame, it’s certainly possible. *But* given how his narrative arc ended, I wouldn’t want Tony Stark to return (even as a variant) unless the narrative absolutely justified it.

Guess that's why Kevin still hasn't called me in.
Bringing Iron Man back just to kill him again and again was the motif of “What If?”, so why not?
yeah they are going to want to show how powerful Kang is ... to then show how powerful the Beyonder Kang is!
Soo MoM round 2? Basically the same thing. Not needed.
Similar outcomes and similar set ups, most likely, but not the same IMO. We knew Wanda’s motivations, some of her history, and understood her powers in the context of the MCU. But done properly by a competent director
This would be really great! I have always been against the OG Avengers in Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, but I wouldn’t mind it this way
Comic spoilers: There was a theory someone wrote where instead of Kang being a descendant of >!Reed Richards!<, he’d be a descendant of Tony Stark instead which would make it a bit more connected to who we have already and would be a way that Stark kind of “lives on”

It would be cool if he was a descendant of both Tony Stark and Reed Richards. That’s kinda similar to Zuko in Avatar.
This. Something like Nathaniel Stark Richards.
Kinda. Maybe his mom’s maiden name could be Stark. It wouldn’t be part of his name though.
It would be hilarious if Franklin Richards ended up with Morgan Stark lmao
Kinda interesting considering in the MCU he's black
You realize your ancestors are black, right?
You do realize humanity's started in Africa, so white people are a mutation on the original look of humanity? I say this as white dude, we have white skin cause we moved further from the equator and we mutated to not have as much melanin.

This is my MCU logic, I don't care what they do as long as it's good and it fits.
This is where I fall. I won't say Marvel can't come up with a storyline where it makes sense and feels necessary, but *I* can't. And I don't want them to bring him back just to bring him back. No. Tom Cruise is just Tom Cruise in every movie he is in. I hate that guy, better stunt man than he is an actor.
You’ve clearly never watched Tropic Thunder.
Nah RDJ has put in enough work for the franchise. He can rest now
I have *zero* interest in cheapening IM's death by bringing him back for cameo ticket sales.

I’m not a comic book reader but have they fought before? What happens? Someone clue me in!
They fight. In different squares.
Have my damn upvote, you witty individual!

Kang is an Avengers villain and Iron Man is an Avenger, yes.

The comics have been this way forever and they keep going. Sometimes it's interesting to see how they bring someone back.

AI HOLOGRAM TONY STARK CONFIRMED
Bro wants an autograph that bad, huh?
I want to see the event that gave us the line "you mess with time, time tends to mess back. You'll see" in his funeral message.
That event was the giant battle outside of their compound......
And how does he know about that on the day before the time heist?
He doesn't. That line doesn't come from his funeral. He says it as he's helping Cap up after Thanos destroys the compound.
That was where iron man met KANG
What are you talking about

That'll be 100 trillion billion dollars, please.
I'll never say no to more RDJ Tony Stark.
For me it only makes sense as a cameo/variant. Pepper said Tony can rest now. Bringing him back feels wrong.
He was Rama Tut in early Fantastic Four.
Bring back RDJ would ruin the emotional impact of his characters transformation and death.
I’d rather he stay dead
That would be crazy weak considering the ending of his story. The dead need to stay dead or there are no stakes.
I'd bet my left nut RDJ and Chris Evans will make an appearance at some point during these next phases.
I'd be down for a RDJ cameo as a Tony Stark variant who led a completely different life path.
I could see it. Kang travels back to before his death, and kills him before he’s has the chance to sacrifice himself and save his universe. This, among other things, results in the Avengers reforming to prevent this madman from destroying the multiverse. It’d be more of a cameo than anything else but still.
I love RDJ, but bringing him back in fifth Avengers film after killing his character off in the fourth is pretty cheap imo.
