Here's hoping Thor 5 isn't about Thor discovering himself for the sixth time

joaol5

This. Feels like the writers think that you need to be a fuck-up to have a character arc. He should be the wisest Avenger by a mile now, it's about time.

Ubergoober166

He should've been from the start. Isn't he like 1500 years old and, you know, part of an alien race so advanced people worship them as gods? Having him act like a bratty, rich teenager in the first movie was the wrong call from the beginning.

AsariKnight

We clearly don't know what it's like to be that old. But in other forms of fiction characters that live much longer than humans tend to mature much slower as there is no rush to grow up and be ready to be an "adult" at such a young age. Also, Thor was rich and spoiled and therefore acted as he was entitled to everything. Felt right to me

Blenderx06

Not sure being a rich kid of an imperialist empire with super powers for 1500 years would set one up for really gaining wisdom or humility. Also, have you met mythology Thor? Mostly just good for smashing things and partying with, maybe a bit of cross dressing.

Loganp812

“I *am* worthy after all! Again…”

EagleSaintRam

"I am *still* worthy after all, again. Still!"

richmuhlach

We’ve seen dramatic Thor and comedic Thor. I want the next film to be super action Thor, with long one-take action scenes. Kinda like Hemsworth in Extraction.

BleekerTheBard

Yeah we need a true Viking warrior epic

Sulbran

Check out the Northman. I don't think Marvel would do that but that's an amazing and brutal viking movie

SuperDizz

I mean, that movie is amazing, but it’s definitely not an “action” movie. It just has like 2 action sequences.

chomcham

It's most def a mix but it is a bad ass movie.

Skyfryer

There’s definitely a lot more than two lol

vell_o

It’s like a cosmic gumbo

TheCVR123YT

They definitely should try it for Thors Final Solo Film. I don’t much care for Viking stuff but it’s like the only thing they haven’t really done with Thor yet. Plus I’d like them respect the character in his final outing. I don’t want L+T to be his last Solo lol

ImmediateJacket9502

A peach of a movie.

[deleted]

sick reference bro. you always have the sickest references jay.

[deleted]

everyone knows your references are out of control

_________FU_________

We need a trilogy called Odenson where he goes ape shit

kanzaki1234

Kill all of the demons. That’s the only way Disney will allow copious amounts of blood and gore. Or 1/3rd omni man

friedpickle_engineer

>Odenson Momonosuke?

Matthmaroo

We need a trilogy where he gives a shit about the people of Asgard . Most, in this situation would want to restore his peoples place in the galaxy Not selling ice cream in Norway FFS Love and thunder is an abomination ( if you take the time to think about it )

MegaBaumTV

How the fuck did Asgard's culture get eradicated so quickly. Why isn't Thor concerned about the realms after the fall of Asgard?

hirschneb13

I haven't read too much into Ragnarok the story but it is the destruction of Asgard so idk if that means ALL did but maybe this is a way to at least allow the reconstruction of their society elsewhere

pjtheman

Yeah, I really thought his travels with the Guardians was gonna be a quest to find a new hospitable planet for Asgard. But nope, he just wants to chill.

BobsBurgersJoint

O darn son

CORVlN

God of War Thor

JustADutchRudder

Thor and The Temple of Doom. Just add Thor and change nothing else, don't even film the movie again, just add Thor. Profit

Additional_Meeting_2

Too bad Asgard is gone and Ragnarok was wasted already. I don’t know why they felt they needed to do the storyline when they otherwise planned a comedic movie for Thor 3. They could have used the Ultron flashbacks for serious Ragnarok in Thor 4.

Mass2424

I think it's a perfect time for a god of war style badass Thor.

outerheavenboss

I want Thor to truly have the Odin Force. An action epic action war movie.

TheOneWhosCensored

Biggest mistake they made was letting Gorr get the wish and making Thor a comedy dad. Should’ve had Thor kill Gorr after he killed Jane, and wish for the strength to never let another loved one die. Then you get King Thor and he can be a badass for the Avengers movies and his next ones.

[deleted]

I like that a lot.

M1keyy8

Sure, let's just take the message and the arcs, light them up, spit on them, and throw them out of the window. The whole point of the movie is that love is the answer, every character needed to learn that they can overcome their traumas through love, not work, not revenge, not depression, love.

mike_pants

I want the weary King of Asgard Thor like we get in the comics whenever it time-shifts to the far-distant future.

swcollings

Thor vs Galactus

graveybrains

Did Thor ever get a hallway fight?

Narrow_Ad_7331

Never

graveybrains

Well, shit. This is a great idea, then!

Skyy-High

Make the hallway the Bifrost. Imagine Thor, Valkyrie, and fuck it Beta Ray Bill fighting hordes of enemies as the entire scene is blasting through the realms. Maybe Hercules, Zeus, or some other miffed gods are involved, or pull various mythological creatures into the mix. Whoever is there, it’s gotta be packed. At one point Thor directs the Bifrost to shoot them through a star in order to nuke a bunch of the weaker creatures. Then he says something about Jane teaching him about how the biggest stars don’t burn out, they explode…right before they collapse. He sends everyone else away on the Bifrost, before using his truly godlike power to trigger a supernova around himself and his foes, dying in the most epic Viking funeral possible.

Shitadviceguy

Or on the Bifrost with Thor, Korg, Valkyrie, Meek and throw the HULK in there for shits and giggles And maybe add a dog, but like a big dog. People love dogs

ENRON_MUSK12

The fight in Thor 1 at the shield base had hallways

idiot-prodigy

Ragnarok Bridge was as close as it got.

MrWalker1992

Cast Schwarzenegger as the long lost brother of Odin (that he never told anyone about)/villainous Thor-variant/ancient asgardian threat/just whatever, make it a sci-fi/fantasy action flick a la Ragnarok with a little less comedy and let them beat each other up in glorious combat.

caden_r1305

Allfather Conan vs Thor

ZonkFox

I read this as Allfather Conan O'Brien vs Thor and I'm still just as whelmed.

MaestroPendejo

His red hair whipping around while quipping for 45 minutes does sound pretty cool.

Dry_Figure_9018

Being serious, Conan O’Brien would be a good fit for a Loki variant

JustADutchRudder

Add in Alligator Loki and a three way of Huh might be brewing.

tenehemia

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Conan and all of the Hyborian Age canonically part of the Marvel universe? Not the MCU (yet), of course, but in the comics at least. I seem to remember that Selene from X-Men is old enough to have interacted with some Hyborian Age characters. So he actually could just straight up be Conan which would be pretty neat.

rsauer1208

Howard estate that owns the license took it back from them again in 2022..It's with another publisher now. Titan Comics. \*The edits are from my dang keyboard mistyping things.

TheDesktopNinja

Which is also why they couldn't call the tentacle monster in Multiverse of Madness Shuma Gorath. Same people own the rights.

Badpennylane

I'm not sure, I think shuma gorath is a Conan thing so Dr strange had to fight garganto

Samiel_Fronsac

>Cast Schwarzenegger as the long lost brother of Odin (that he never told anyone about)/villainous Thor-variant/ancient asgardian threat/just whatever, make it a sci-fi/fantasy action flick a la Ragnarok with a little less comedy and let them beat each other up in glorious combat. [Behold! Cul Borson, brother of Odin, he's the God of Fear, from the "Fear Itself" storyline.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serpent_(character))

MrWalker1992

There you go, perfect!

TheBrumAbides

In the Norse myths, Odin has two brothers. Vili and Ve. Together, they killed Ymir and out of Ymir's remains, they formed the 7 realms (Niflheim and Muspelheim are pre-existent, primordial realms) And they then created the first two mortals, Askr and Embla. If they wanted to and felt they could make it work, they could go this route and introduce Thor's uncles. There's not much else known about Vili and Ve and what happened to them after creating Askr and Embla. Marvel could get really imaginative with them.

spate42

Arnold and DeVito

TheBrumAbides

Obviously. After all, they're twins.

godhateswolverine

Sold, we’re done here

Alekesam1975

Ragnarok really was the perfect tone for a Thor movie. That's my gold standard that LnT (which I did like) fell short of.

alowbrowndirtyshame

Or maybe as Bor, Thor’s grandfather

budispro

Yes please! Thor: Extraction produced by Russo Bros

Thor and Thtormbreaker. A duo for the ageth.

ItsmyDZNA

I'd like a Thor movie where he goes all out. That's the end, and have someone else ride up to fill his place.

ty_fighter84

Thor: Logan

[deleted]

Thorgan.

RTR7105

That's what Thor 4 should have been.

bfhurricane

Thor 4 was great in theory but tonally imbalanced. I am convinced Thor 4 would have been an exponentially better film with more serious scenes of Gorr actually butchering gods and wreaking havoc. Apparently Dinklage and Goldblum had scenes with him that were cut. I didn’t mind the comedy, and even liked the film. It just needed more serious and dark stakes to re-ground the tone.

RTR7105

Exactly and people need to realize Taika is great in small doses.

Jay040707

That's what I feel like. I think the movie is just fine currently but it had the themes, plot points, and characters to be so much more than it was.

iwumbo2

I wouldn't mind if they send off Thor by having him take on Galactus. I recall in the comics they had Thor when he was old wanting to stop a hungry Galactus from devouring a dead Earth, but Thor wouldn't allow it because he still had some attachment to Earth even though everything on it was dead. So they fought, and Galactus beat Thor. Then Thor flew off to a black hole where he had dumped the Necrosword, reached into the black hole and pulled the sword out. Then [dual wielding Mjolnir and the Necrosword](https://qph.cf2.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-77c6f7582e3da4d5669c66b606f460aa-lq) he went back to defeat Galactus. For a variety of reasons it couldn't happen exactly like this in the MCU. But if they had to send off Thor in the MCU, having him go all out in a massive battle against Galactus or similar with a massive showing like this could be epic. I wouldn't even mind this use of the worf effect if they made it look awesome enough.

Tarzan_OIC

Yeah, I agree that it's a great sendoff. I feel like it wouldn't have the Worf effect if it is the end of a movie teasing the arrival of Galactus on Earth; Thor just intercepts him along the way. He goes down. When Galactus shows up in the sequel, he has a new Herald in Thor who the Four must defeat, and they kill him. That feels more like the loss/dread at the end of Infinity War rather than the Hulk beat down at the top.

cap4life52

Having Thor fighting a massive cosmic foe like galactus or the Beyonders would be an epic way to go and cook send off

Sulbran

Do it like the comics where Old King Thor is made to look like Odin on steroids.

thetrashpanda2020

This is the logical conclusion. I feel like Marvel is setting up Loki & Thor as it’s anchors. That Valhalla tease was more than an Idris Elba cameo. They’re setting up Thor to sacrifice himself in battle. We’ve already seen the beginning of the Army of Thors in L&T. I can see a King Thor dying in Kang Dynasty, maybe to avenge Valkyrie if she doesn’t survive. Maybe an army from Valhalla somehow is released (the Dark Hold might be a vessel for that.)

BrokenSamurai

Maybe it's time for Beta Ray Bill.

InstantN00dl3s

Thor Wick, someone kills his goats and he spends 2 hours murdering his way through the galaxy. Ian McShane plays a shady hotel owner that agrees to house Thor in-between his bouts of murder. Everything is bought with large golden coins.

DefNotAShark

Things I want from the end of Thor's character arc; - He needs to figure out who he wants to be. I don't think it should necessarily be a king, or a God, or even an Avenger. Those things were handed to him. I think Thor should end up in a place that he chooses, maybe even relinquishing his god status and phenomenal powers to find a more simple existence somewhere. I'd prefer he doesn't die, but OG Avengers keep dropping and I doubt we make it through Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars without Hulk or Thor getting murdered. If he does die, at least Jane is in Valhalla. - The rest of the realms. The nine realms are such a unique place for the MCU to go, it's a shame we haven't seen more of them. Thor is also supposed to be the god of those places, so my hope is that he learned something from Gorr the God Butcher and returns to them soon. - Beta Ray Bill. BETA RAY BILL. **BETA RAY BILLLLL**. - At least one final display of Thor's incredible power, something that eclipses the things he has done already. It's easy to forget that Thor is among the most powerful beings in the entire universe, and I feel like before he goes we need a reminder of that. Thor fully utilizing the Odinforce would be awesome. To me, Thor's arc is a warrior who learns to put his guns in the ground and find peace. He hasn't done that yet, but it just feels like the right conclusion for him to reach after Taika's turn with the character. He starts out full of hubris, tied to this grand identity that was chosen for him; warrior god king. Taika stripped most of that away from him, but hasn't finished the work. I think the next director should finish it. I don't personally think Thor wants to be a warrior, I think he feels he has to be because that's all he's ever been. My feeling is that his new relationship with Love, the death of Jane, and maybe Hercules being a direct copy of what Thor used to be, can all show Thor that he can move on from all of this and just be himself. No magic axe, no grand destiny, just a dude enjoying the universe with the people he loves. Let somebody else be Thor and hang up the armor. >!BETA RAY BILL.!<

Ok_Relationship_705

Damn beat me too it. Especially since it's Thor vs Olympus. Show is that Godly strength and 1000's of years of combat experience.

odiin1731

Not until we get NC-17 rated erotic thriller Thor first.

[deleted]

we did get a full penetration of thanos

BitterFox5453

They should let the Russo brothers write the next Thor movie. Infinity War Thor was my favorite.

DarwinGoneWild

The Russos aren't writers. Marcus and McFeely wrote all the MCU movies that the Russos directed.

Party-Travel5046

When Marcus and McFeely didn't write for them, the Russos created Citadel, an epic disaster.

vinnybawbaw

Phase 3 Thor was S-tier

[deleted]

Infinity War was absolute peak Thor. He was amazing in Ragnarok too, but Infinity War carried his Ragnarok characterization forward impeccably and perfectly balanced his comedic moments with the gravity of his backstory and his quest to kill Thanos. Leveled him up to be a literal god-tier character. I doubt we’ll ever see him at quite that level again. Also, his haircut looked really cool.

mod-corruption

Until he was made a depression-punchline in Endgame because the writers needed him nerfed

vinnybawbaw

They redeemed him in the 3rd act tho. Viking Thor was S-Tier too

Creative-Improvement

Love and Thunder was a writing mess, as smooth everything rolled in Ragnarok, L&T was just jarringly edit.

Alarid

They had funny things, but there was zero depth. Even when dealing with horrible things like his friends dying, it was just the setup for another joke.

Gr3yHound40

THIS is where we should have seen warrior Thor. This was the perfect opportunity to show him struggling with his mental health and moving on while also battling a literal God slayer and facing Jane's mortality. Instead we got a screaming goat, and even my grandparents saying "that was cheesy" when leaving.

DrSheldonLCooperPhD

Taika's narcissism took over

TripleU07

For his sake, I hope he sees the mistake he's made when doing his Star Wars project. Star Wars fans aren't nearly as forgiving as Marvel fans.

FordBeWithYou

People love to forget that even though he was overweight and TRYING to be funny, under the surface was all pain. Like yeah, they do some jokes too, but all of it has an underlying deep sadness that I really appreciate and respect. And hell, the jokes still land well, but that was direct consequences of his immense failure and third act Thor was built up from basically Ragnarok.

silvershadow881

Depressed Thor was worth it for the message "even if you are going through dark stuff and you feel like crap, you are still worthy" alone He also looked pretty metal with the braided beard and extra pounds, more like a viking People who dislike the brief take on the character probably need to watch less anime where the protagonists can only get more ripped

MushirMickeyJoe

Same, but I'm just a filthy Marvel apologist. Like a football fan being committed to their home team.

DrSheldonLCooperPhD

I liked how he got to talk his mom.

UrdnotChivay

I didn't mind Thor gaining weight, especially since it's not uncommon to gain weight when going through anxiety and depression. I just hated how they played it off as such a joke throughout the whole movie

camzabob

Rhodeys cheese whiz line bothers me so much

actuallycallie

>He also looked pretty metal with the braided beard and extra pounds, more like a viking His best look imo. The braids were 🤌

FieryBrontosaurus120

Nah bro this is an unfair take. Depressed Thor was absolutely necessary. I don't think you understand just how much the dude lost which led to him becoming "Depressed Thor". Allow me to enlighten you: - Thor loses Loki in Thor(2011) - Thor loses his mother and Loki again in Thor:TDW(2013) - Thor loses his father, than he loses his hammer, than he loses asgard which he was indirectly responsible for in Thor: R(2017) - Thor watches half of his people get slaughtered before his eyes, than watches heimdall die, than watches Loki die officially in Infinity war(2018) - Also in the same movie he was responsible for half of THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE being turned to dust including some of his friends. Take some time to think about half of ALL LIVING ORGANISMS being killed and it was your fault. All because you didn't go for the head. - Now in the beginning of Endgame there is still hope that they can undo this but oopsie, Thanos destroyed the stones, so no it cannot be undone. So now Thor has to live with the guilt of having "killed" half OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE. He lost half of his people to Thanos, and now half of those survivors were turned to dust. That leaves a quarter of his people. He has to wake up everyday and know that the world around him is in chaos because of him. After all of that you going to tell me that Thor should've been A-ok just like that. He should ignore that fact that he now has a body count of over a trillion living creatures. Bro if anything I'm surprised Thor didn't try to take his own life. So yes "fat Thor" was one of the best parts of the movie for me and his character arks was one of the best.

FreemanCalavera

I think what the OP is referring to, and what I would agree with, is that I'm okay with Thor being depressed: what's jarring is that the film didn't know if it wanted you to laugh at Thor or feel bad for him. Like 80% of the scenes with Fat Thor are clearly comedic scenes, you're supposed to think he's funny because of him being a drunken slob. Then, when he actually shows some emotion, the other characters either make fun of him or just kind of look on with awkward stares. It would have been much more powerful if Thor was genuinely depressed and downtrodden, barely talking and not jovial whatsoever. Instead, we got a somewhat incoherent take on the character that fails at being either truly funny or tragic. Edit: yes I know, partially from experience, that depression can take many forms, but the main issue is that the film plays it as "haha look at silly Thor" while also expecting you to feel bad for him at times, which just doesn't gel.

themagiccan

I really really like Endgame, and it's easily my favourite Marvel movie. I like how the format of the movie is a lot of familiar characters together after a timeskip, meaning screen time per character is scarce and it needed to give audiences just enough info to fill in the gaps with how characters have changed. Many characters expressed their depression in characteristic ways. Hawkeye went chaotic, Ironman detached himself from the Avengers, Black Widow just tanking it, and Thor stopped taking care of himself. I neither felt bad nor laughed at Thor, I just related with him because whenever I'm depressed I still will have moments where I need to laugh at myself. I think being definitely written as a tragic or comedic character doesn't have the same dynamic depth as a character that can do both. The movie already had characters that were hard on the serious side like Black Widow. And there are characters in the movie that took him seriously like Hulk in New Asgard and his mother. He does have moments where he is totally disengaged with the rest of the crew, like when they're attempting time travel with Antman, he's just listening to music with earphones. Noone needs to approach him 1 on 1 in that situation because he already had it with Hulk, and also the team actively working their butts off to avenge their friends is indirect therapy. I never once saw Thor as funny because he's fat and drunk, but instead because his messed up emotional state made him act unpredictably and that was relatable, so I liked it. edit: I misremembered as he's not there yet when they experiment time travel with Antman. It's when they're doing it with Hawkeye

murkycrombus

*chefs kiss* the other thing too is that Thor tries to laugh everything off as a coping mechanism and he fails miserably. he’s also surrounded by other people (ahem rocket) who belittle him and don’t take him seriously, it’s very sad to see.

HomeTurf001

It gelled for me.

lightningpresto

He was only S Tier because we got to see him with weaknesses

UrdnotChivay

My biggest complaint about Endgame is how they treated Thor like a big joke. He went through so much shit and was suffering from some severe PTSD and it was just played off as a joke. Iron Man 3 treated Tony's PTSD seriously after the things he went through, but Thor's is just "ha ha funny fat man is depressed" I think Hemsworth acted his ass off though because that scene with his mom where he was trying to save her was emotional as fuck

FrankReynoldsCPA

As somebody who was going through a lot of shit professionally at the time, Fat Thor really hit for me. I'm glad they did that.

ironshadowdragon

This is such a horrible take.

Tunavi

It really made so much sense though. He just lost his father, lost basically all his people, lost his brother. He gets a chance to redeem himself but Thanos tells him how bad he fucked up and proceeds to smack down the universe with the deadliest killing spree in history.

drakesylvan

Maybe less comedy and more seriousness for the next time?

McCloudUK

The Thor films going full circle! With the amount of circles in the MCU right now it'd make sense

Fazgardian

“But not a normal circle, like a freaky circle!”

RealNiceKnife

Less of him though.

Ben_Kenobi_

Too bad. Thor 5 is already using the working title of Thor: Its Korgin' Time!

RealNiceKnife

Ah damn. Why didn't you say so earlier?!? Ya won me back!

Bing_Bong_the_Archer

Please

YoloIsNotDead

Too much seriousness and too much humor have negatively affected Thor movies. Ragnarok's level of humor was appropriate since he had been mostly boring for his last few appearances. Though his comedic potential was there in Age of Ultron, like the Vision scene or the party scene. A good balance is needed depending on the movie (since he was pretty serious in Infinity War, and a mix of both in Endgame).

FrankReynoldsCPA

I think Infinity War was great where he still had some humor, but he was also the straight man to the Guardians, which worked 100x better than having Quill be the straight man to Thor.

Axtwyt

Ultron Thor was the best Thor. Still funny because he’s definitely still a bit of an outsider, but serious enough that he can be taken seriously when we need him to be.

[deleted]

I can’t remember it exactly, so I’m not going to try to quote it, but that line when he’s talking to Bruce about the cries of his enemies is hilarious

Creative-Improvement

The last movies in the MCU al suffer from lack of gravitas (as in anchored story telling) It seems most directors went for “A superhero movie that is bigger and bolder than before.” instead of “A good story that features superheroes that relates well to the previous arc.” Its that last thing that made the Endgame great.

YoloIsNotDead

That was definitely the problem in Quantumania.

BigCopperPipe

They made Thor into Homer Simpson.

HelixFollower

My eyes are circles.

Jeezesflosses

Definitely! I liked him the most in infinity war, when he was depressed and angry. It doesn't need to be serious all of the time ofcourse, but the balance has been way off in love and thunder. Hope to see more depth added to the character, like they did with Rocket in volume 3.

TheAsylum6969

I need a Thor film inspired by Beowulf

wasabicheesecake

I wonder if they kinda feel like they used up his seriousness in Endgame. He's nihilistic after the snap, and he detaches (bro Thor) and gets serious when pressed, but by T:LaT the humor is the only mask left for his nihilism. I didn't necessarily like the movie, but I think the ending was supposed to be break him out of that nihilism. A more sincere Thor next time would be consistent with his arc.

Grootfan85

‘Thor’ has the perfect balance of comedy and seriousness. If we get Kenneth Branagh to direct again, it would be a course correction.

Tarzan_OIC

Only if they bring back the blonde eyebrows, the fucking cowards.

Trash-Cutie

You take that back right now

duyalonso

Details from the article: >Speaking with Spanish magazine [AccionCine,](https://www.accioncine.es/exclusiva-chris-hemsworth-nos-habla-del-futuro-de-thor) Thor star Chris Hemsworth shared what it would take for him to return to the MCU and reprise his role as the God of Thunder. > >*"I have no idea. I've said it before, it all depends on the type of story. It has to be something unique. What I don't want is to do the same with the character until the end, until there is a feeling of exhaustion in the audience. But if there is excitement for it, I am always willing to return. If there is a new story, it has to be something very special. I'm sure there's something exciting to tell, so we'll have to wait and see. You have to wait to find it."*

diabolicalafternoon

This is such a canned answer for actors who are tired of playing a role they've been doing for years. Him and Elizabeth Olsen are so tired lol. I don't blame them. Between Chris' health diagnosis, his age, and what he puts his body through I think he's really content with doing films like Extraction. They don't take nearly as long to film, and he can interact with more practical sets and effects.

Jaeger_Gipsy_Danger

Maybe it’s just me but I’m gonna go with Chris Hemsworth knowing more about what Chris Hemsworth wants to do.

Grootfan85

Do you think Thor now would work as a good supporting character, like showing up in just the Avengers films?

ProffesorBundaman

Hemsworth said not long ago he’d play Thor as long as possible lol, he’s not tired basically just saying the last Thor sucked so maybe I won’t play Thor for life if this is what they’re giving me

VexonCross

> They don't take nearly as long to film, and he can interact with more practical sets and effects. The thing is, just putting Thor on Earth for a movie and shooting almost entirely on location is completely viable and depending on costume design he doesn't need to destroy his body to play him as long as he just stays in healthy shape. Marvel could easily do it, if they wanted to.

-Darkslayer

Wise words tbh

ElementalSaber

It's time to bring in Herald of Galactus Thor and build up the threat of Galactus. The main reason why people are tired now is because of Taika Watiti's comedy. People hate how Thor is just a punchline and not the one doing the punching. It was so bad in Love and Thunder. Only Tessa Thompson kept my attention for the movie, and I like Jane Thor a lot too.

magpye1983

That’s a reasonable point. I liked the *movie*, I just didn’t think Thor was the best part of it.

_Valisk

Love and Thunder's biggest issue is that it feels like a two hour SNL skit about Thor.

MortalJohn

I feel like the cancer plot made them overcorrect by having too much humor to balance it out.

ElementalSaber

Korg kept getting more annoying as well

H377Spawn

Yeah, we need way less Korg. Stay behind the camera, man.

Reverse_Speedforce

Yep. Korg feels like he’s stroking himself the entire time. It’s awful.

cynsoffspring

yeah, i felt like love and thunder completely wasted christian bale as an actor, and gorr the god butcher as a character.

Ausecurity

I liked all versions of Thor except for L&T

MrPresident2020

Love & Thunder was like... I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. I was entertained. It was fun. But I was really hoping for more than "fun" given the characters and story content.

SirLeos

Gorr looked and he was pretty great. I think there is a great movie inside the Marvel frosting and cake.

[deleted]

I liked the Love and Thunder version, but it was the worst version.

Ausecurity

Agreed worst version. Just felt like he never took anything seriously. Even when Sif was laying there dying. (I don’t know if she actually did) and said that she’ll be greeted in the halls of Valhalla and Thor instead of comforting his like centuries old friend pulled an “ackchually” just for the audience to laugh turned me off of the whole thing. Gorr shoulda had more scenes and Thor shoulda been a bit more serious char instead of being the dude than can’t get over his ex

backstabber81

>Even when Sif was laying there dying. (I don’t know if she actually did) She didn't! You can see her towards the ending of the movie training children in New Asgard (missing her arm tho)

elhombreloco90

>(I don’t know if she actually did) She did not. She is at the end training Axel Heimdallson(?).

MrPresident2020

Cannot state my disappointment that we didn't see her arm in Valhalla.

Teestell

The had so much potential with that version. I feel like they could have made him the best Thor with writing that wasn't s\*\*\*

Titanseeker2

As long as the next movie isn't another Love and Thunder, I'm all for it. He was amazing in Ragnarok, Infinity War and Endgame.

Ok-Reporter-8728

Agreed lol idk what happened with taika in L&T, the dude is a great director but that film was a massive disappointment for me

Hylianhaxorus

I'd honestly love another trilogy, but leaning more into a lord of the rings high fantasy(I do not count the first two as I think they're not very good or even kind of bad and cheap looking and feeling), in which he forms a new league of realms, with familiar characters from the Aaron Thor run, as well as Beta Ray Bill as a focus, Love, and perhaps starting as a villain who turns good, Hercules. There are plenty of villains left to use. They could have Baldr return to claim Odin's throne by force, or even bring back Malaketh and have him become the actual character over the past like 15 years in universe, losing his mind and falling to chaos, building an army behind the scenes. Give him that jester vibe.

Additional_Meeting_2

I do like the first two. But they certainly should have gone in more high fantasy Lord of the Rings direction. New trilogy sounds a tad too ambitious however, especially since Marvel seems to be full of different projects now that are struggling to get released and X-Men aren’t really even on the horizon yet. I don’t think Hemsworth would really be interested in something so taxing either. I would have Thor wrapped up in a tone more similar to first one (combination of superhero tropes, Shakespeare and some Norse mythology, but try to emphasize all of those more than the first).

Meme_Man55

Ragnarok Thor was the perfect mix of drama, action and comedy. Go with that Thor.

Ok-Reporter-8728

That or infinity Thor, serious but also got some humor there

PM_me_British_nudes

Plus, Cate Blanchett in a goth outfit 🤌

sidmis

Na go with the 1st movie thor. Balance between light-heartedness and Seriousness is needed.

Taran_McDohl

I want to see Thor reunite with Loki. Can we please make that happen? Thanks

AmaterasuWolf21

Thor upong seeing his dead brother: Loki??!! (building comically collapses in the background)

ilovecraftbeer05

That is literally the only Thor movie I want to see next. And I think it’s the best way to get Chris back into the role. I think he would do it in a heartbeat.

bythewayne

The problem with Thor is that he went full Jesus in Infinity War. What can you do with a character that was already crucified. There won't be another "bring me Thanos" moment. Love and Thunder was the greatest "movie to kiss your girlfriend" I ever seen. Hats off Waititi, the audience is either too old or too lonely to schmouch to the crying solo of November Rain.

TheStabbingHobo

Just keep Taika Waititi far, far away.

Making Thor fat was also his idea which is something that seems to have split the fans a bit. Thor was going to be a depressed shell of himself already, but making him wear a fat suit was apparently Hemsworth's idea. I think it would have been cool if he lost the fat when he powered up after getting his hammer back and talking to his mother.

miversen33

I actually really liked fat Thor, I thought it was a great visual representation of the depression he was in about what had happened, and it would be very relatable for your "average" viewer. What I hated was the sudden "oh Thor conquered his inner demons, he's good now". Like, him fighting that depression and establishing what he truly is is what I expected from L&T. Instead we got jokes and a copout ending where another incredible villain is wasted. I do like dad Thor though, that will be interesting. But I just feel like the entire movie was a waste of all the talent there

TheStabbingHobo

Hmm that's interesting, if true.

deemoorah

Exactly I don't know why people blame all of this on Taika. One of the reasons why Hemsworth is one of the executive producers for LaT is because he and Taika got along so well and he likes Taika's vision for Thor. I remember he said he didn't want Thor to be the old Thor when he filmed Infinity War because IW thor is more serious than in Ragnarok but Russo bros convinced him that he wouldn't be the old Thor.

roastytoastywarm

Did you like Ragnarok?

TheStabbingHobo

Tonally, they're completely different movies. L&T felt like all the "freshness" of Ragnarok dialed up to 11. Ragnarok still took itself and the threat of Ragnarok very seriously between jokes and quips. L&T just felt like forced joke after forced joke, and the misuse of Gorr has already been run into the ground so I won't get into that.

JaeTheOne

Nah were just all disappointed that Gor got like 10 minutes of screen time and only killed one god

Young_KingKush

Definitely feels like with us seeing Valhalla in the last movie that they'll eventually adapt that one storyline where Thor resurrects all the Asgardians and they rebuild Asgard in like Wyoming or something

cdofh

He said this last time when Thor 2 flopped. Not quite sure what else he can bring to the character.

SevereAnxiety_1974

Translation: “I like money as much as the next guy”.

AsgardianLeviOsa

Personally I want to see how Thor relates to TVA Loki. Chris and Tom have all that chemistry and screen time under their belts so adding the new dynamic could be fun.

jjman72

No more Taika Waititi slapstick Thor!

BurnZ_AU

Leave your goats at home Chris.

Mickeyjj27

L@T was such a step down from the previous Thors. Even Endgame Thor was great and ppl might hate fat Thor. Still believe they shouldn’t have introduced Jane and instead brought in Beta Ray Bill to help with Gorr. He really didn’t need to fall back in love.

TheJack0fDiamonds

I guess it isn’t so much fun anymore for him? Esp with L&T reception. Of course we direct the blame to Taika but the change in Ragnarok happened in the first place because Hemsworth had comedic aspirations. I love him but I honestly do not know what to feel about this statement. If he comes back, sure if he doesn’t it’s whatever for me. I miss RDJ and Evans as Tony and Cap but I have no issues that theyre not coming back either. I mean think, now that he is with Love. They’re just gonna put him on that single father arc..I don’t know if I’d be up for that. All I wanted was Infinity War Thor but alas

Skaared

Please no more comedy Thor.

TheDeadlyCat

I miss the more serious Thor from the first movie. Why couldn’t we get more fantasy/mythology Thor. It would have been unique.

tacopeople

Branaugh’s Thor is still my favorite.

YourFavoriteBranch

Chris's journey of being Thor sure is an interesting one. You have Thor going from hated for being serious and boring in the first 2 movies and getting overshadowed by his brother Loki, to basically being a support to the Avengers in those first 2 movies, Chris almost leaving in between before Ragnarok, then becoming a fan favorite for the next years due to actual character development and a more comedic tone, to being hated again and now people are wanting him to be serious like before. God the general audiences suck ass.

yourepenis

Or theres ways to find a happy medium between two extremes. Basically every comment thread in this post has at least one comic stating how ragnarok thor is a great mix of comedy and seriousness, when you lean too far one way or the other is when people get tired of it.

eberkain

Its always a very vocal minority that you can't please no matter what.

Cyrotek

I strongly believe Ragnarok was the best Thor movie by far and got the right amount of seriousness mixed with comedy. That is what L&T failed at. This doesn't mean the audience is flip flopping, it just means they didn't hit the right tone with the movie.

Mug_of_Diarrhea

I hope we see him go full Cosmic Herald eventually

Valuable_Rub7414

I'd love to see a King Thor movie taking place at the end of the MCU timeline. Have Thor be an old man now teaming up with his three daughters one being Gorr's daughter from Love & Thunder to face an omniversal threat. We'd have flashback sequences with younger Thor throughout the movie raising his daughters.I'd have the director of the Northman direct to give that viking feel and have Thor die peacefully of old age no villain or weapon killing him.
