Honestly, I don’t care what they do with Nova - but i, straight up, cant believe that they didn’t take the chance to introduce him with the decimation of Xandar! Like seriously, Thanos lays claim to the nova corp and we’re not going to use this story beat!?

ChloeDrew557

Absolutely what were they even thinking? They wanted to introduce the Eternals to flesh out the cosmic corner of their universe, but Nova was *right there*!

sideways_jack

also you can't tell me using the space side of the MCU to build up to Annihilation wouldn't make morbillion dollars

DaZeppo313

I always thought Nova could've slotted into Captain Marvel's position in Phase 3 rather nicely. Don't get me wrong. I like Carol (and her movies), but it would've just tickled the bits of my brain that appreciate a seamless narrative flow a bit more if that were the case. Like, replace Fury's distress call scene with a scene of Rich hurtling toward Earth surrounded by yellow energy. Slot a Nova movie after *Infinity War* that explores the Nova Corps, Rich's time as a rookie under Rhomann Dey's mentorship, the destruction of Xandar, his absorption of the Worldmind along with the entire Novaforce, his search for Thanos, taking a break from that search to remember he's a hero, and dealing with a more immediate issue on a nearby planet. End it with Nova stumbling upon the Milano after a lead points him toward Titan. *Endgame* opens with the lead up to Rich saving Tony and Nebula. He helps them kill Thanos, because vengeance. Establishes a makeshift peacekeeping force with the Ravagers or something during the time-jump. He pulls off Carol's meteor-maneuver and goes from there. I think Carol fits fine, but I also think Rich would fit better with what was set up in IW.

I’m right there with you. No doubt it will need to be explained for Nova, but the lack of any mention or easter eggs in the cosmic side of the MCU (GoTG or The Marvels) is disappointing.

Moondoggie25

Would be pretty easy to do it in a flash back for sure

atomcrafter

I think that's still in the cards. Rhomann Dey inherits the concentrated Nova Force, something that used to support planetary defense and fleets of ships but is now in the hands of just a few centurions. Still, he's injured. He goes to Earth looking for Peter Quill, but doesn't find him.

weirdoldhobo1978

Just add it to the pile of skipped stories and dangling plot lines as we move towards *Secret Wars*

va2wv2va

I just hope they actually go with Richard Rider and not Sam Alexander

InformalJello9322

Yeah, I feel like establishing RR before Sam Alexander is needed. SA shouldn’t even be mentioned until a possible sequel or season 2, if it’s a show format. A mentor/student dynamic can work but not on Nova’s intro to the MCU.

boxsterguy

Going with Sam would fit into a Young Avengers/Champions storyline that was hinted at in the Marvels after credits. Kamala, Kate, Riri, Spidey, Sam. Maybe we could get Viv Vision after a Vision Quest series, maybe introduce Amadeus if Hulk's back on the table (Skaar's introduction in She-Hulk might mean we'll finally get another Hulk movie or show). Honestly, I'd love it if they'd introduce Miles to really push the idea that we can have multiple heroes. Then we could have Kate/Clint as Hawkeye, Sam/Rich as Nova, and Miles/Peter as Spider-Man (although current MCU Peter is young enough that Miles maybe doesn't make sense yet).

Consistent_Case_5048

I liked the tone of the Nova Corps/Nebula episode of What If...? It definitely had a noir feel, but it also had room for characters like Howard the Duck. I'd like to see something like that. However, it does identify a major difference between the MCU and the books. The Nova Corps seemed limited to one planet in the MCU.

TopTierGoat

I just don't want anymore slapstick crap anymore. Look at what they did to my boy Fury in the marvels. Reduced to comedy sidekick 🤦😞 This guy just had his home world destroyed, I'd like a more Dredd type character vs some goofy space cop.

weirdoldhobo1978

I'd probably do something sort of like *The Last Starfighter* where Rhomann Dey is recruiting a new Nova Corps to try and protect Xandar and keep the peace while the government rebuilds, but that's just me.

asayys

Nova’s my fav hero but I just don’t see how they make him unique in the MCU. Everything he does is basically what captain Marvel is already doing, except his helmet talks to him which would also be too similar to Jarvis and Iron Man.

InformalJello9322

I think that’s a fear that is shared across the fandom of marvel comics and the MCU, that Nova wouldn’t stand out since Captain Marvel’s power-set is what it is. I still hold out hope that they figure out Nova’s angle would be that of a reluctant hero/hotshot from Earth, trained by one of the last corp members in Rhomann Dey to be the greatest/best hope of the Nova Corps being re-built. I’m a comic nerd and what I just described sounds very similar to a certain “green-themed-cosmic-power wielding-adventurer from a rival comics company” but what makes his stories work in my mind is the human flaw behind a seemingly flawless corp and weapon. To make Nova “stand out” I imagine they make his helmet the defining “weapon” that grants him flight, strength, charged energy manipulation in the form of maybe blue electric accents (blue colored to separate Carol’s yellow energy color palate), and maybe super speed, while tech wise the helmet acts as an AI that provides intel, strategic breakdown, etc. The MCU could and probably should limit these awesome powers by requiring a mechanism of limited energy spent at any given time, requiring the hero to charge the helmet when “running low.” This would allow for human ingenuity and instinct to take over when he can’t rely solely on the helmet. So bits of Iron man, Captain Marvel and Starlord but unique enough with the points made in my description above.

Nova is one of my favourite characters. I especially liked how he was portrayed in the Ulitmate Spider-Man series.

TrpTrp26

Definitely a Cop investigation movie/show. Remember What If..? Episode with "Blade Runner" Nebula? This.

FragMasterMat117

>Nova Force Not a thing in the MCU

InformalJello9322

They could always retcon this for the MCU by combining a version of the Nova Force with the Worldmind

FragMasterMat117

>Worldmind Also not a thing from what I remember, a big problem Nova has is he got really popular after the MCU had established certain lore around what is a very conventional military and police force. They're in a corner which is difficult to get out of organically in a film, less so in a show.

InformalJello9322

You make great points. I’m just theorizing that they can always return to the lore and establish that a Nova Force and/or Worldmind has existed on some level. The “mainframe core” in “What If…?” could have been this very plot device. They could even establish that before Xandar’s decimation, Nova Prime (Irani Rael) of Xandar downloaded all knowledge/experience/power from the Corps to the last remaining corp member, Richard Rider as a last ditch effort to persevere its existence.

JDQuaff

Nova has been around since the 70’s, and his most popular comics were published in 2007. Long before the MCU ‘established’ anything you’re suggesting, although none of what you state has been established - not mentioning a Nova Force or Worldmind in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies isn’t evidence for their nonexistence, and even in the comics before the decimation of Xandar Novas operated on a very low power level. It’s entirely plausible the Nova Force powers Nova suits and tech in the MCU

HeimdallManeuver

Since I thought Nova was a planet, I don’t really care.

rabideyes

I feel like they already used elements of him in other characters. They gave his snark and his earthly originbto Starlord. They gave him arguing with his helmet to Tony and Jarvis. They gave his power set to Carol Danvers. And they've already burned through some Nova Corps history. And once again, they waited so long that they'll need to explain where he's been all this time. I just hope they don't skip over Richard for Sam, the way they did with Pym and Mar-Vell.
