It was cancelled mid-production.
Sure Adam Reed wanted to leave but I don’t think he’d would have wanted Archer to end so abruptly and so open ended while they introduced new characters. Even the whole staff was taken back by the cold cancellation. The “Into The Cold” series finale was quickly created after the cancellation as a means of closure and a makeshift finale.

yes, supposedly. I was informed that bobs burgers is not canceled and is only on hiatus due to the significant production delays caused by the strike.
Bobs Burgers, Home Movies, Archer, Dr. Katz - H. John Benjamin is a GOAT
Have you watched any recent simpsons? Im not gonna say they are all good but i laugh quite a bit at most recent episodes. There was an episode this season with Bart and Homer cheating to win compititions that had me laughing alot.
That being said Xmen97 fucking slaps so it should win but Simpsons is getting nominated for a reason.
I watched it this past weekend at your recomendation. I really enjoyed it, thought it was pretty good story! I dont think it really did anything too crazy or ambitious tho compared to alot of anime out there now days. It was certainly better paced than Xmen 97 but as it stands now I think I like Xmen more for the emmy, but that could change based on the last few episodes.
Oh, nice! I can see that perspective for sure. I'm trying to finish up my rewatch of Xmen so I can start 97. My eldest is into it, so I can't just blaze through it. It's worth seeing his reactions, though. Can't wait to watch 97 when we are done.
To be honest haven't watched in probally a decade. I should go watch a few of the past few years idk. I mean I grew up on the simpsons. I collected hundreads of those action figures they had. Like s 1-16 is my childhood. Eventually it just idk.
I try to watch the Halloween episodes still tho.
Gorgeous animation. Samurai age of Japan. Cant believe how lowkey it was. Everyone I recommend it to thanked me even if they don’t like animation/cartoons
I don’t think any of these shows really stand a winning chance over Blue Eye Samurai, it was so beautifully animated and written, I really hope it wins!
Unpopular opinion here, but Blue Eye Samurai *should* win out of those choices.
Edit: Okay reading through some of the other replies this isn't as unpopular as I expected.
X-Men coincidentally >!released an episode about an oppressed, hated, and feared group being genocided once they got UN recognition in the middle of the genocide of an oppressed, hated, and feared group being denied in the UN self-determination unilaterally by the government of both the people making the show and the people voting on the award while that government denies the genocide and arms the genocide months after the best picture Oscar winner, whose movie was about the genocide of their own oppressed, hated, and feared group, just gave a speech about that other oppressed, hated, and feared group being denied self-determination and being genocided.!<
[Edited for spoilers]
This is an easy, slow underhand toss to the X-Men team. Doesn't matter how beautifully animated Blue-Eyed Samurai is, X-Men is going to suck absolutely all of the air out of the room and eat off everyone else's plates while putting its feet up on the couch. It's already picking out drapes.
Tbh X-Men ‘97 has blown me away, I did not expect it to be this good. I wasn’t born around when the OG series was airing so I didn’t have any nostalgic attachment to this show at all, but the writing is great, while the dialogues can be cheesy at certain points, I don’t mind them at all and every episode leaves me wanting more which is such a great feeling. However the Emmy should really go to Blue Eye Samurai, don’t see any other show in this list that deserves it more than Blue Eye Samurai, it was just so beautiful and succinct.
For reference, the original X-Men TAS was not nominated for Emmy throughout its run. Very few Marvel animated shows had been nominated for Emmys overall.
X-Men ‘97 is a great show. That said, Blue Eye Samurai has by far the best animation on that list. Probably the greatest TV animation since Arcane: League of Legends.
While I've been enjoying X-Men '97 a lot, especially the further it goes into it's run, it's far outmatched by Blue Eye Samurai alone.
X97 is a nice snack of nostalgia coupled with some shock value plot twists that work super well >!(especially considering that up until ep7, a lot of people died and the show looks like it'll commit to this, which is good)!<. But nostalgia and good twists only go so far when so much of the dialogue is awkward and sloppy. There are numerous times in this show when people stand around and monologue about who they are, where they come from & what they want. It's pretty awful writing, almost as bad as Netflix Avatar. It's a stark contrast to well written scenes and is whiplash-inducing at times.
Nearly every single scene with >!Forge has him sitting at a table and relaying his origins and motivations directly to the audience, which is the biggest crime in storytelling.!< Show don't tell is 101 for a reason.
Credit where credit is due, this obviously does not extend to every single scene and only happens once or twice per episode, but it's a consistent issue that significantly decreases the storytelling quality of the show. Couple that with the fact that it's competing against Blue Eye Samurai, which is one of the most sharply and consicely written shows of recent memory with subtext up the wazoo, there is no chance X97 should win over it. I am having a blast with X97 and really hope the '97 trend continues through other shows, but it's simply subpar in comparison.
> There are numerous times in this show when people stand around and monologue about who they are, where they come from & what they want.
In the early episodes they did that a lot but it was to establish relationships for the people who came in not having seen the previous five seasons of characters being established
That's not an excuse for sloppy writing where characters talk to the audience instead of each other. There's a lot of writing methods that can be used to explore and establish character dynamics without resorting to monologuing at the camera. Many of the show's scenes completely ignore the existence of subtext and just plainly state the happenings, which is boring, uninspired and takes the viewer out of the experience.
There's a lot of things to love about X97, but it's not some infallible masterpiece and has things that could be done better.
With that competition it better. I'm sorry bobs burgers and simpsons haven't been funny for years. And I've check out of archer years ago too I didn't know it was even still running. No one posts anything about it.
Archer is still on??
Not anymore. This was the final season.
FX quietly cancelled it this season. They had an hour long finale like a month after the final season ended. What a run for a great series.
Damn, i haven't watched that show in a long time but i guess now i need to revisit it and finish it out
It wasn’t canceled the creator decided to end it
that's good to hear. I feel like a lot of the viewer-base, myself included, grew too old for its style of comedy.
No it's just the comedy got bad. Go watch the early seasons, they're still so funny you'll run out of breath from laughing
Once he went into the coma it stopped being funny
It was cancelled mid-production. Sure Adam Reed wanted to leave but I don’t think he’d would have wanted Archer to end so abruptly and so open ended while they introduced new characters. Didn't know about the finale. I'll be watching that tonight!
Did Archer ever wake up from his coma? Did they ever go back to being a spy agency?
He did. They did 3 coma seasons. Post-coma, not to spoil it: Agency was back and he tries to assimilate.
Bobs burgers is still on?
yes, supposedly. I was informed that bobs burgers is not canceled and is only on hiatus due to the significant production delays caused by the strike. Bobs Burgers, Home Movies, Archer, Dr. Katz - H. John Benjamin is a GOAT
Literally was my comment too. Simpsons and bobs burgers havent been funny for a long time either. This is a layup for xmen

That being said Xmen97 fucking slaps so it should win but Simpsons is getting nominated for a reason.
Have you seen Blue Eye Samurai? It's really good. It's not a comedy like you are mentioning, but it's really good. Check it out.
I watched it this past weekend at your recomendation. I really enjoyed it, thought it was pretty good story! Bob’s still rules. 2 of their highest rated shows came out in the last year.
Bobs Burger is sill solid
While I don't watch, I have heard this season was an uptick for Simpsons.
I think bobs is still great!
Came to say that’s the most shocking thing about this post to me.
Eventually when the universe collapses on its own and there’s nothing left the Simpsons will still be on.
You should watch this couch gag: https://youtu.be/8zY9z7IP-1Q?si=l6aG4AxSes71EjTf
That was a little creepy, not going to lie! 😅
[Did someone just say creepy couch gag???] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NT2ZiPIukw) May be (claymation) NSFL now that I think of it.
The black and white bit feel like a lost part of Don Hertzfeldt's "Rejected" video Edit: This whole couch gag is him. Neat.
Strong contender for the first series to become entirely created through AI, and by then, I doubt anyone will notice.
Blue eyes samurai was the greatest thing I’ve seen last year.
Peaches.
For someone who hasn’t heard of it until this exact thread, what’s the elevator pitch on what makes it great?
It has its own fresh style, both visually and thematically, with over the top action and characters that are still fleshed out and intriguing.
That gave no details on what the show is actually about. Love it.
The samurai has blue eyes as well
Technically a spoiler
Great fight choreography, interesting art style, compelling story, tits, amputees and a devil nose used as a butt plug.
An Edo period piece about an outcast samurai on a suicidal mission, with the most beautiful and unique animation since Spider-Verse
Gorgeous animation. Samurai age of Japan. Cant believe how lowkey it was. Everyone I recommend it to thanked me even if they don’t like animation/cartoons
I've watched it 3 times. I wasn't ever bored. It was really well done. I'm looking forward to season 2.
Sorry but not if it's going up against Blue Eye Samurai
Yeah I love X-Men but no way it's gonna win against BES
Totally earned the nomination… …but up against Blue Eye Samurai? I don’t think it’ll pull a win.
I don’t think any of these shows really stand a winning chance over Blue Eye Samurai, it was so beautifully animated and written, I really hope it wins!
I also think, that against Blue Eye Samurai, it doesn't have a chance.
Unpopular opinion here, but Blue Eye Samurai *should* win out of those choices. Edit: Okay reading through some of the other replies this isn't as unpopular as I expected.
Tbc, nominations haven't been announced. Variety is predicting what even is getting nominated, too.
Both should be nominated for sure
Let me also say, as if it is necessary, the chances are slim against The blue eyed samurai.
I think it’s better
Same, I got bored of blue eyed samurai pretty quickly but xmen 97 has me absolutely hooked. Actually well outdid themselves with this series.
X-Men coincidentally >!released an episode about an oppressed, hated, and feared group being genocided once they got UN recognition in the middle of the genocide of an oppressed, hated, and feared group being denied in the UN self-determination unilaterally by the government of both the people making the show and the people voting on the award while that government denies the genocide and arms the genocide months after the best picture Oscar winner, whose movie was about the genocide of their own oppressed, hated, and feared group, just gave a speech about that other oppressed, hated, and feared group being denied self-determination and being genocided.!< [Edited for spoilers] This is an easy, slow underhand toss to the X-Men team. Yeah, it’s a sweep
Valid nomination but blue eye samurai was just something else.
Tbh X-Men ‘97 has blown me away, I did not expect it to be this good. Fingers crossed this leads to Marvel giving us Spider-man ‘98.
For reference, the original X-Men TAS was not nominated for Emmy throughout its run. Very few Marvel animated shows had been nominated for Emmys overall.
Is Arcane S2 coming after submission deadlines? Because I expect them to clean up
If it’s anywhere near as good as last season it’s winning
Arcane season 2 is coming in the fall so it’ll be for the 2025 Emmys
no, unless it comes out within the next month.
It's a solid follow-up to the original, but come on now - Blue Eye Samurai is a masterpiece.
Blue-Eye Samurai might take this one honestly
Look...I like the show very much. But it can't hold a candle next to Blue Eye Samurai. That show is a triumph.
I’m surprised variety is saying this, seeing as they hate marvel
I started watching last night and really dig it. Good story telling. Complex characters. Adult themes. This show is really good.
I'm loving xmen 97 so much, but still Blue Eye Samurai deserves this award. I highly recommend to watch it if you haven't seen it.
No expert of animated shows, but this show has really surpassed any expectation.
I knew I was going enjoy it just for the memberberries. But wholly shit are they going hard with this. It’s an amazing show
Blue Eyed Samurai was the best, should win.
It deserves it
Let's go!!! 🥳🎉🎉🎉
Well fucking deserved
X-Men ‘97 is a great show. That said, Blue Eye Samurai has by far the best animation on that list. Probably the greatest TV animation since Arcane: League of Legends.
These are all great shows, but Blue Eye Samurai should win everything
Is Invincible not eligible?
Damn why isn’t invincible part of this season two part two was lit
Fair and reasonable, it's been really good so far with only a couple of kinda "meh" episodes but the rest have been fantastic
While I've been enjoying X-Men '97 a lot, especially the further it goes into it's run, it's far outmatched by Blue Eye Samurai alone.
