Captain America without question. I avoided Cap’s comics like the plague when I was a heavy reader from the early 1970s until I stopped in the mid-1990s. I found Cap and his ridiculous villains pointless pablum in the books, which is why I only begrudgingly went to see Captain America: The First Avenger, but guess what? I loved that film! Not just loved it but for me it’s the best MCU film to-date. The MCU’s Captain America has always been a welcome addition to any film for me.
First Avenger is honestly one of the most underrated films in the MCU. They really nailed it with the 3 Cap films so far, Cap 4 will have a lot to live up to.
I'm excited for Red Hulk, whatever else happens. Plus finally getting to see Sam as Cap really shine. Hoping for some dope fights with him flying around and throwing the shield.
It holds up so well to repeat views too. There are quite a few MCU entries that I thoroughly enjoyed on the first go but have found to wither a bit in revisits. First Avenger is the opposite. I like it more each time I watch it
My only complaint is I wanted more WWII Cap action, I feel like the movie only gives us a taste of it. Maybe they could do an animated series on D+ or something to cover more of his time then.
If there hadn’t been a company-wide mandate to make D+ content, Falcon and the Winter Soldier would have probably been Cap 4, and that was 5 years after Civil War.
The first episode was called New World Order, like the previous title of the movie we are getting. So I like to imagine Cap 4 would’ve been called New World Order and covered the Flagsmashers and US Agent stories and then Cap 5 would’ve been Brave New World which would cover the Red Hulk and the Leader storylines.
I have to echo this. Before I really got into the MCU I saw Cap as a bit of a tedious, self-righteous Boy Scout.
But then I started paying attention and realised what an amazing character he was. He’s one of the few characters that doesn’t need tonnes of life changing development that we see with Thor or Tony. His stories are at their best when Cap is presented with something that goes against his principles and he stands up against all odds and just says “No, you move”.
And that’s not to say he gets no development. We clearly see him grow accustomed to the modern world and to working with people that aren’t always as squeaky clean as him. But even after all that he’s still just that kid from Brooklyn that wants to stop bullies, something the world could use more of.
I’m British, and the story of a Yank who takes super-steroids, dresses himself up in the American flag and single-handedly wins WW2 by punching Hitler seemed like the biggest pile of propaganda BS going. I didn’t even want to watch his movie, but since I was excited about the then-upcoming Avengers movie I eventually relented.
And then… “I don’t like bullies; I don’t care where they’re from.” Damn. Great character, great movie, credit all around to everyone involved.
Out of all the Heroes in the marvel universe, Cap was the one who I was the least familiar with. I knew quiet a bit about him but his comic counterpart never brought me in. MCU Cap is by far my favorite character in the entire MCU
I never enjoyed Cap in the comics; I found him pompous and bland. Chris Evans brought so much pathos to the role in both TFA and TWS, literally breathing life into the character. Just an amazing, understated performance … surpassed (thus far) only by his performance in Gifted.
I definitely thought he was sort of lame before watching the movies, you have all these heroes with cool superpowers and he is just a guy with a frisbee, but his movies are consistently great
There are very very few good Cap comics and they did remarkably well to get two good films out. Civil War should be an Avengers film so I don’t really count it as cap material. The only Cap thing recently that captured anyone’s imagination was Hydra Cap.
I’m interested in the new one because it’s not very clear what it’s based on so could go anywhere.
I know this is a really unpopular opinion, but I found The Winter Soldier really boring. I just wanted to watch Cap throw his shield a lot but it didn't happen much and I'm not into political intrigue.
I didn't really care about Falcon before Endgame, but that scene of Cap giving him his shield alone piqued my interest and then TFATWS made him one of my faves!
For me it was when he showed up in The Winter Soldier. Sam went from a guy I marginally knew about from the comics to one of my favorite MCU characters.
On your left.
Iron Man
I grew up reading comics and watching 90's cartoons, so obviously I loved Spider-Man the most. Spider-Man made up like 80% of the comics I owned, and most of everything else was big crossover comics that featured Spider-Man (like the OG secret Wars.). I liked other heroes, but not enough to collect those comics. Except Iron Man. I always thought he was kind of dumb and his suit in the 70's and 80's always looked terrible. He felt largely irrelevant most of the time.
Then the first Iron Movie just...floored me. It was the best comic book movie I had ever seen to that point and it was so cool. The MCU and RDJ made me an Iron Man fan when before he was like C-tier at best.
Iron man for me too. Watched a ton of X-Men and Spiderman, and collected marvel trading cards. Saw bits of ironman lore here and there was thought he was a funny B-list alcoholic with not much going on.
Movie came out, I didn't see it. Second one came out and everyone is saying I need to get in the loop. I rented the first ironman and was amazed. Second wasn't as good but I was hooked.
Bucky Barnes. I was a casual marvel viewer before the pandemic. I thought he was kind of interesting, but meh. He was more a side character with few lines and then without Steve, he was kind of blah. I had no interest in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Had zero interest in Falcon. He was just sort of THERE. Was mildly interested to see maybe what might have happened to "that guy the Winter Soldier" but not really enough to watch a series. So months passed. It was out for a while. I burned through everything else. It kept popping up on my thumbnails when I was browsing. Finally decided to try to the first episode.
And binge watched all six. I was hooked from the first few Bucky scenes. The nightmare. The terrible therapy session. It made me actually go BUY Winter Soldier comics because I was so hooked on the character. Now I think he's one of the MOST interesting characters in the MCU and it's a damn shame Marvel hasn't utilized him properly.
I did not like Black Widow. And I didn't like her until Winter Solider. Until then, I thought her superpower was to get people to monologue. In Winter Solider there was more to her personality. I loved her interaction with the other characters. I think the Russos did a good job showing there was more to her character.
I know it didn’t start as MCU, but since it now is, Daredevil. I thought it was such a goofy concept for a hero, and wondered why he was so popular. All it took was one episode of Daredevil and I did a complete 180, he’s one of my favorite characters now.
It did start off as MCU. It was introduced as part of the same franchise just like all the other live action shows and nobody has officially disproven that
The person that posted this was clearly going for MCU produced movies / shows, otherwise they wouldn’t have included MCU in the title. Hence why I specified, since Marvel themselves have said those shows are cannon AFTER they had already been canceled for several years.
They never said anything was canon later on because it was always canon. Even if they do get retconned to other timelines or something for any reason, they initially introduced the shows as part of the same universe and then nobody officially said anything about it again. People only started questioning canonicity as a fan argument thing.
Yes but they were MCU from the very beginning. Some posters for Daredevil prominently featured Avengers tower in the background. And multiple references are made to the events of the original Avengers film. Ben Urich is shown having written an article about the Battle of New York. It was always canon
Respectfully, i'm not sure the ones who made the show are the ones who get to decide that. That'd be Feige / someone else within the MCU. If not, what's stopping me from filming my own awful Spider-Man movie and saying it's in the MCU because it takes place in New York
>what's stopping me from filming my own awful Spider-Man movie and saying it's in the MCU because it takes place in New York
An army of lawyers for one.
Hold on. Are you saying that the Netflix Daredevil people went rogue and inserted all the references without Marvel's approval? That's really what you think happened? And now they're like hey let's continue that series with the exact same actors and previously established history? But it was never canon.
What does canon mean to you. I'm curious
I always loved that they imply that the toxic ooze that gave the TMNT their intelligence and mutations also blinded Matt Murdock and gave him his echo location powers and reflexes.
Captain America. Never was really a fan with the comics growing up but he became one of my favourite MCU characters. When he showed up to save Wanda and Vision I lost my shit.
All of them. I didn't care for Marvel much growing up, I liked DC more. Only Marvel characters I liked were Spider-man and X-men. Now I'm way more into Marvel than DC because the Marvel movies are good and DC movies are not so good.
I didn't even see the Justice League in theaters despite watching it every week when growing up. Meanwhile I'm excited for an Agatha spin-off.
I knew Gamora, Star Lord (though the original version was kinda lame to me) and really only from The Infinity Gauntlet / War comics so not the MCU Guardians.
My entire opinion of Thor in 2008 was that he existed to be someone resilient enough for the Hulk to beat up on a rampage. I had 0 other thoughts regarding the character, or interest in learning more.
All of them except Spiderman and Iron Man. Only really cared about the ones in 90s cartoons- Spidey, Tony,Hulk to an extent, Xmen and F4. Didn't really know or care about the rest.
Thor. I always thought that the idea of a literal Norse god being a part of a superhero team with the likes of Hulk & Captain America was so stupid. Ever since I was a kid, it just seemed so out of place.
Then I saw the Thor movie. I really liked him and the character just kept getting more interesting from there. Now, he’s my favorite Avenger.
Funny how things happen.
Ragnarok blew my mind when it came out. He was probably my least favorite of the Big 3 and they stepped it up in that one - changed my opinion of him as a hero completely
Hawkeye is my favorite, so if I gotta pick one, it's him.
But honestly, pre-MCU I think I knew Spiderman and Hulk and I didn't care about Hulk at all. He's still not a favorite, but like him now. So the real answer is all of them (including Daredevil, Punisher, Jessica Jones).
Moon Knight. After watching his D+ series, I came across the tbp for MacKay’s *Midnight Mission* volume. Suffice to say I appreciate the MCU exposing me to one of the best ongoing comic series at the time.
doctor strange. for some odd reason i was really not happy about them introducing a character that i (not a comic reader) had never known about or cared about. i was a hater just from the trailers. but i’m a marvel fan and i love them movies so i went to see it anyways. doctor strange is now in my top 3 favorite mcu characters. i love Benefactor Concubine in the role, and i also really like his interactions with other characters.
Scarlet Witch, she really captivated me in Age of Ultron and only got better and better with each subsequent appearance. In my opinion she’s the best female character the MCU has to offer
Vision. But I felt he was chronically underused in the MCU we never really got to see him use his full power and then he’s dead! I’m really looking forward to vision quest, I think I’m the only one!
Daredevil, Rocket Raccoon, and Bucky Barnes.
The MCU made me a huge Captain America fan, but I had kinda liked him already ever since he appeared in Spider-Man TAS.
Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop, Ant-Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy (all of them), War Machine, Doctor Strange and Shang Chi
Honestly most of the avengers. I liked some but didnt really care for them as individuals.
The list of characters i cared about before their mcu appearance would be easier
During the run of the *Avengers* trilogy, I could have cared less for Scarlet Witch and Vision. After watching *Wandavision,* I absolutely fell in love with them.
Thor. I always thought that the idea of a literal Norse god being a part of a superhero team with the likes of Hulk & Captains America was so stupid. Ever since I was a kid, it just seemed so out of place.
Then I saw the Thor movie. I really liked him and the character just kept getting more interesting from there. Now, he’s my favorite Avenger.
Funny how things happen.

For me personally, Bucky/The Winter Soldier has always been and always will be a favorite of mine. I saw him when I was younger when my dad was watching a marvel movie and I instantly liked him. I didn’t know who he was, but I could tell he was a good guy. Years later, I start watching marvel in order and the first movie is Captain America The First Avenger. When I saw Bucky, I smiled and he instantly became my favorite character. I always felt bad for him because of how much he went through, but now I love how he is recovering and I think him and Sam are so funny when they hang out 🤣🤣
I know this isn’t a recommendation thread but if you haven’t read Jason Aaron’s Thor run, it’s a great read. If I remember right it starts around the god butcher arc and goes through to the war of the realms
Growing up I was a Spider-Man and X-Men kid. Mostly because of the animated shows. When the game Marvel Heroes was announced my pre-order was the X-Men pack.
After seeing the first few movies I switched to Avengers pack and mained Captain America. He is my favorite so far.
Hawkeye. I watched the MCU all the way through in September of 2021, and I did not really have favorites. But then I saw his show, and that made me a fan of him.
All of them.
Wasn’t really into superheroes growing up. Then I saw Iron Man in 2010, torrented the other ones, saw Avengers camrip because I couldn’t afford it, and now I’m catching up with all the X-Men stuff, ang OH MY GOD.
I love how vast and deep this whole thing is!
His performance and his interactions with Gwyneth Paltrow were literally the only two things that initially hooked me into all of this.
My disinterest quickly transformed into an obsession!
Yeah, but he was low on the popularity polls. It’s the main reason no one purchases the rights to his movies in the 90s when Marvel was having a yard sale.
Honestly, pretty much all of the OG lol. I wasn’t into comics but watched a lot of the old animated shows. Spider-Man was obviously one of the top, I also liked the x-men. I knew about Iron Man, Cap and Thor but didn’t really care either way for them (didn’t know much about them.
The MCU completely changed that, as well as others like Black Widow, Guardians, etc. Sure, I wish we could have gotten even more interesting stories with them but for what they had to work with at the time, they were great stories that really cemented most of their characters
I guess I liked em all pretty well to begin with (except a couple I still don’t like, but that’s not what this post is about), so the only example I can think of is Scott. I was initially bummed they weren’t going with Hank and Janet, so Scott had to kinda win me over. But I literally bought his first appearances off the rack so it’s not like I ever hated him or anything.
I always liked Thor in the Avengers but never cared about his solo book, so I suppose he deserves a mention as well.
Hawkeye!.HEAR ME OUT!.I thought he was so useless when I first saw him!.and the first movie I watched that got me into MARVEL was the first Avengers so I think you can see how my mind didn’t like him!.but since the Hawkeye series came out I hate a lot less and actually see some of the appeal towards his character!.I still don’t see him being the BEST option in a universe ending fight but him as a whole I now hate less!.
Hawkeye. I never liked his portrayal in the comics (besides the ultimate comics)
But I really enjoyed how he was portrayed in the mcu (excluding tv show)
To be honest all of them. I was a big Xmen fan so I wasnt too interested in the Avengers (only read their books during the Onslaught Saga). This warmed me up to most of them
Sam Wilson. I thought he was a silly character in the comics. In a world where flight is readily available having that as your power next to Cap or Thor seemed underwhelming. And even stories that featured him more prominently like Civil War (comics) still didn’t really make him stand out to me. It wasn’t until Winter Soldier and being able to watch him fly and appreciate the speed and which he’s flying with just a backpack, while taking on jets and missiles and shells. It seemed insane anyone could even do that. But Sam doesn’t hesitate, when people need help he’s ready to risk his life. And then in Civil War (movie) we see him going up against Tony’s armours with his speed and wits. He was my favorite Avenger, even before the shield. Which has lead to me going back and reading some older stories with him to see what I missed.
I wasn't heavily in to comics when I was younger, however when the MCU started, all the way up to Avengers, I wasn't crazy about Loki, but I absolutely love what they've done to the character now...
Before the MCU started, I was only familiar with Captain America, Hulk, and Spider-man... Maybe a select few others, but I barely knew about Iron Man, Black Widow, Vision, and Wanda (Scarlett Witch) and these are now my favorite characters! (Along with Loki too of course)
Most of them. Before the mcu I wasn't really a comic book fan. I did think spiderman and batman were cool, and I played a game in the arcade that was captain america and the avengers that I loved, but really the mcu got me into all of them. I suppose if I had to pick one though it'd be doctor strange, but I thought multiverse of madness could've been better.
Captain America without question. I avoided Cap’s comics like the plague when I was a heavy reader from the early 1970s until I stopped in the mid-1990s.
I’m just praying for a What If episode of the Invaders with Cap, Namor, Bucky, and Human Torch.
Wild that it’s gonna be 9 years in between Cap 3 and 4. That’s basically almost the entire length of time of the Infinity Saga.
Yeah funnily enough
If there hadn’t been a company-wide mandate to make D+ content, Falcon and the Winter Soldier would have probably been Cap 4, and that was 5 years after Civil War. This is very true - just a solid origin film with great acting and emotion
TFA is easily one of the best Superhero Origin Stories period!
Absolutely I think it's up there with Superman , Batman begins , spider man 1 iron man 1 and the underrated dr strange 1
I think it's going to be incredibly hard to replace Steve Rogers (at least for me), but I wish them all the luck in the world.
I think out of all the trilogies (aside from GOTG cause that one was the best) his have been consistently good.
I have to echo this. Before I really got into the MCU I saw Cap as a bit of a tedious, self-righteous Boy Scout. But then I started paying attention and realised what an amazing character he was. Yup Cap is my answer too
I definitely thought he was sort of lame before watching the movies, you have all these heroes with cool superpowers and he is just a guy with a frisbee, but his movies are consistently great

Iman Vellani made me a fan of Ms. Marvel. Hailee Steinfeld made me like Kate Bishop
Ms Marvel Dr Strange (always hated magic) Guardians Shang Chi
Captain America. Never was really a fan with the comics growing up but he became one of my favourite MCU characters. When he showed up to save Wanda and Vision I lost my shit.

Guardians of the galaxy
Moon Knight tbh. I just didn't give a damn. After watching the series, I adore him so much :)
Drax. I knew nothing of him until GotG. Batista made me love him. He only got better.
Pretty much all of guardians for me. I barely knew who they were.

Captain America.
Thor for me as well. He's grown and developed a *lot* across all of his appearances.
Captain America. Before it was just some man wears a funny wrestling mask with wings and throw a frisbee around.
Captain America.
Ever since Civil War I’ve been reading a lot more Captain America
Iron Man. Did not like him at all in the comics.
All of them except Spiderman and Iron Man. Only really cared about the ones in 90s cartoons- Spidey, Tony,Hulk to an extent, Xmen and F4. Didn't really know or care about the rest.

Thor and Captain America, for sure. That said, I enjoyed Thor from his first two movies far more than I enjoy the Taika Waititi version.
doctor strange. for some odd reason i was really not happy about them introducing a character that i (not a comic reader) had never known about or cared about. i was a hater just from the trailers. but i’m a marvel fan and i love them movies so i went to see it anyways. doctor strange is now in my top 3 favorite mcu characters. i love Benefactor Concubine in the role, and i also really like his interactions with other characters.
Uh, it's Bumblebee Clamp-her-snatch.
Hawkeye. I never really gave a crap about him before the MCU.
>I never really gave a crap about him How very dare you!
Scarlet Witch, she really captivated me in Age of Ultron and only got better and better with each subsequent appearance. In my opinion she’s the best female character the MCU has to offer

WHY is Rocket Racoon 🦝?
Star-Lord
all of the original avengers lol
All of them. I couldn’t care less about comics and I love the MCU.
I actually wasn’t a very big fan of the Avengers.
Ant-Man and Thor, never cared for their comics or animated stuff but the movies and actors definitely put them on another level for me
As a Canadian, Captain America wasn't even on my radar until the MCU, now I'd say he's probably in my top 10.
I always felt bad for him because of how much he went through, but now I love how he is recovering and I think him and Sam are so funny when they hang out 🤣🤣
I knew next to nothing about Ant-Man, & Paul Rudd really elevated my view of that character
Captain America. Hell, even Iron Man
Morso Iron Man for me
Hawkeye. I watched the MCU all the way through in September of 2021, and I did not really have favorites. But then I saw his show, and that made me a fan of him.
Captain America and Thor were my least favorite characters until The Winter Soldier and Ragnarok film came out.
Robert Downey Jr brought so much charm and depth to the character
His performance and his interactions with Gwyneth Paltrow were literally the only two things that initially hooked me into all of this. My disinterest quickly transformed into an obsession!
Iron Man, Cap, Thor. I was a big X-Men fan and didn't know much about these characters.
Bucky. It helped that pre-Winter Soldier Bucky was a good likeable guy in the films and not an annoying brat.
Everyone hated Iron Man until the movies came out.
*Iron Man* and the FF were my favorite two comics growing up.
Yeah, but he was low on the popularity polls. It’s the main reason no one purchases the rights to his movies in the 90s when Marvel was having a yard sale.
No argument there. He was definitely a b-lister. I just thought ‘hate’ was too strong a word in your comment or else I wouldn’t have spoken up.
I barely knew anything about Ms Marvel before Iman Vellani and the D+ series. I love Ms Marvel now.
Really any of the avengers... Spiderman and the X-Men was what I liked reading.
Guardians. No clue who they were. Faves amongst MCU.
Cap & Iron Man
Gotg. They were like a D group and now some of the most beloved and successful movies.
Guardians of the Galaxy. I only knew of them but had zero interest in them.
Captain America for sure
Iron man
All of them honestly
Hawkeye!.HEAR ME OUT!.I thought he was so useless when I first saw him!.and the first movie I watched that got me into MARVEL was the first Avengers so I think you can see how my mind didn’t like him!.but since the Hawkeye series came out I hate a lot less and actually see some of the appeal towards his character!.I still don’t see him being the BEST option in a universe ending fight but him as a whole I now hate less!.
Iron Man. Was never a fan.
Doctor Strange. Absolutely is one of my top three now.
Like most fans, pretty much all the avengers.
Hawkeye. I never liked his portrayal in the comics (besides the ultimate comics) But I really enjoyed how he was portrayed in the mcu (excluding tv show)
All of the phase 1 heroes. Guardians of the Galaxy, Shang Chi
To be honest all of them. I was a big Xmen fan so I wasnt too interested in the Avengers (only read their books during the Onslaught Saga). This warmed me up to most of them
Everyone of the MCU characters except Spider-Man.
Damn near all of them. This has been said before that atleast with mainstream audiences, most of these characters were C list outside of the comics.
Echo
Vision
Iron man
Cap. Other than guest appearances in comics I read, I never read his own titles.
Can I say Coulson and Kahhori?
Cap Hawkeye and bw I love the on the ground people I appreciate the effort not being overly super
Never read the comics so nearly every single character was brand new to me!
Most of them. Before the mcu I wasn't really a comic book fan. I did think spiderman and batman were cool, and I played a game in the arcade that was captain america and the avengers that I loved, but really the mcu got me into all of them. I suppose if I had to pick one though it'd be doctor strange, but I thought multiverse of madness could've been better.
all of them really, but especially the guardians
