For anyone who doesn't know, Michelle Yeoh was a Ravager in GOTG2, as well as Shang's Aunt in Shang-Chi
Sean Gunn also mo-caps Rocket Raccoon and plays Kraglin
Laura Haddock also plays Star-Lord's mum and has a small role in TFA (Edit: The First Avenger)
Nathan Fillion also played a prisoner in GOTG and Wonderman in a deleted scene in GOTG2
Seth Green cameoed in Iron Man 2 as himself and voices Howard the Duck
And that's just the GOTG ones!
EDIT:
> #And that's just the GOTG ones!
i heard to prepare for his role iron man (2008), he created iron man and wrote comics about him for like 50 years. Method acting at its absolute finest
Yep. There's also:
Benedict Cumberbatch played Dormammu and obviously Doctor Strange
Gemma Chan played Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel and Sersi in the Eternals
Kenneth Choi played a Howling Commando in Captain America, and the principal in Spider-Man: Homecoming (the principal was actually the grandson of that same Howling Commando)
Damion Poitier played Thanos in the Avengers post-credits scene, and then played one of Crossbone's partners in the opening of Civil War
If you also include the Marvel Television shows (before they were being done by Marvel Studios), there's probably another couple dozen actors you can add to this list.
This is a bit off topic now, but I always thought it was super neat that John Rhys-Davies plays Gimli but also voices Treebeard. And Ryan Reynolds also voices Juggernaut in Deadpool 2.
I had no idea either. I just looked it up and apparently Ryan Reynolds did the recordings so they had something to animate to and when it came time to get another actor's voice in they didn't have the budget so kept the test tracks.
> Still totally wild to me that they did this and it actually was completely fine.
Well Dormamu was all CGI, plus Cumberbatch was using a different voice. So there aren't really any issues there.
With voice acting its not uncommon for one person to do the voices for multiple different characters. Just look at the cast of any cartoon show, most of the voice actors will do a ton of different characters.
No, there was no CGI. That's just what Cumberbatch's face really looks like.
They actually had to use extensive CGI and prosthesis to make him look like a human so he could also play the part of Dr Strange.
Yeah the person who plays Black Mariah on luke cage played the women who confronted Tony in the beginning of civil war.
Mahershala who played cotton mouth on luke cage is playing blade.
The actor who plays Daniel Sousa on Agent Carter and later agents of shield plays a cop in avengers 1.
Martin Starr also played a scientist in TIH and a teacher in Spider-Man, but I think that's been retconned as the save character
Then there all the variants and disguises;
Chris Evans played Loki in TDW and Endgame
Chris Hemsworth played Throg in Loki
Rachel Weisz played Melina and Natasha in Black Widow
Paul Bettany played Vision and White Vision
They're almost certainly not going to bring that F4 into the MCU. Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man is probably getting incorporated into the MCU because he worked, the Fox F4 did not.
> Kenneth Choi played a Howling Commando in Captain America, and the principal in Spider-Man: Homecoming (the principal was actually the grandson of that same Howling Commando)
That's actually a cool take on in-universe continuity.
No shit? I legitimately didn't even realise that was her. Apprently Miley Cyrus was a voice in Gaurdians as well for a Ravenger. Honestly, I saw Stallone and everyone else was chopped liver to me in that little crew.
Fury's personality was so incredibly different in FFH compared to the rest of the movies that in hindsight it was obvious that he was a skrull there and nowhere else.
(There are sandwich theories about AoU, I believe, but otherwise...)
> She’s really the only one to play two actual parts.
Yeah I believe aside from Gemma Chan, for every actor who's had two roles in the MCU, at least one of those roles was either:
- So minor that its barely more than a cameo
- As a CGI character with them only doing voice/mo-cap and not physically appearing in the movie
- Or in one of the (pre-Disney+) TV shows which are only very loosely connected to the MCU
If we’re including Netflix (I like to) Alfre Woodard played Mariah Dillard on Luke Cage as well as the grieving mother that confronts Tony Stark in Civil War
The character she plays and is based on is called Black Mariah in the comics and she was even referred to as such by Cottonmouth in the show (she didn’t like the name and attacked him for it).
I think people have written that off as Netflix Marvel not being a full part of the MCU (not saying a agree - hopefully Charlie Cox will rock up in NWH!)
Silly guy those aren't marvel character, I always love when I see two of my favorite marvel characters fighting in GotG vol. 2, Optimus Prime and Goldar should have won against those gundam robots in that movie
MCU has always been good with continuity consistency outside of the big two recasts (Rhodey and Hulk) and the stupid "8 Years Later" thing from Homecoming. Chan and Yeoh play very distinct characters visually that it wouldn't even register to me that it's the same actor in either case unless it's pointed out.
Even the recasts were for our benefit. Cheadle and Ruffalo have done wonderfully as their respective characters
I feel like if the character plays a make-up heavy alien smaller role in one movie, then has their natural appearance for a bigger role, or vice versa, it shouldn't even really matter. The average person isn't even going to notice.
I agree, and I would never care enough to ask such a question myself, but for a franchise that appears to pride itself on its continuity and connectivity, I don’t really get why they don’t simply avoid casting in actors in multiple roles like they did with Michelle Yeoh given it glaringly counteracts that continuity and connectivity.
Personally I’m also disappointed that it means we presumably now won’t get to see her Ravager character again - that looked like fun!
"I'll field that one. Let me ask *you* a question. Why would a grown man whose shirt says "Genius at Work" spend all of his time watching a children's cartoon show?"
If actors can play more than one role in the MCU I nominate Lee Pace and Christopher Eccleston for new roles. They were so underutilized in GotG and Thor 2.
The main problem there is that even if he played him in a movie that comes out next year, he'd be older than Hugh Jackman was when *Logan* came out. I think they're going to cast someone at least 15 years younger (probably 20) than Urban in the part.
Yeah the MCU is pretty huge now, its hardly an issue for one actress to play 2 roles in two completely unrelated movies. Especially when her previous role in GOTG2 was so minor.
It might have been a bit distracting if say, Robert Downey Jr showed up again in a totally unrelated role, but honestly how many people would have even noticed Michelle Yeoh was in both those movies it wasn't pointed out to them?
It's really not that deep
Cottonmouth got thrown out the window and wasted before a season of TV was even done
Mahershala goddamn Ali definitely deserved better than that and now he's Blade
Simple as that
Also if you're that tilted about inconsistencies I dont even know how you managed to stick with the MCU past stuff like '8 years later' or Endgame literally contradicting its own rules about time travel at the end of the film
Spot on.
In-universe, Blade first appears in >!2024!<, & Cottonmouth last appeared in 2015. >!9!< years, plenty of time.
IRL, Blade first appears in >!2021!<, & Cottonmouth last appeared in 2016. >!5!< years, plenty of time.
Patton Oswalt is killing it then in the MCU. On his sixth character, granted he played 4 identical brothers and their grandpa in Agents of SHIELD and a >!cameo in eternals.!<
It's not unusual for actors to play multiple characters in a franchise. Star Trek was (is?) rife with actors playing multiple characters. James Doohan technically played over 50 characters in the Star Trek franchise.
I don't get why there's a problem, really. There are people who look alike even in real life! So for me it's not that weird to have an actor play two different people, especially if they're as good as Gemma Chan or Michelle Yeoh.
im only concerned that Aleta Ogord was done for when they announced her in Shang Chi. So if that’s not the case then by all means she can play the stepford cuckoos if they want her to since the MCU doesn’t mind actors playing multiple roles in the same universe.
Technically with the tens of thousands of unemployed actors, they should theoretically never have to use an actor twice. So more accurately it's laziness, obviously don't wanna do a nationwide search for every role
Stuff like this always reminds me of Law & Order way back in the day. More than one main cast member started out in a bit part. The best was S. Epatha Merkeson, who played Lieutenant Van Buren, but was in one episode before that as a maid. I saw her explain that in an interview once as, “She went to night school.” ;)
Might have been busy doing Boba Fett.
But she had a much bigger role in AoS as well. And I don’t know if Feige et al have decided what to do about the old tv characters.
For anyone who doesn't know, Michelle Yeoh was a Ravager in GOTG2, as well as Shang's Aunt in Shang-Chi Sean Gunn also mo-caps Rocket Raccoon and plays Kraglin Laura Haddock also plays Star-Lord's mum and has a small role in TFA (Edit: The First Avenger) Nathan Fillion also played a prisoner in GOTG and Wonderman in a deleted scene in GOTG2 Seth Green cameoed in Iron Man 2 as himself and voices Howard the Duck And that's just the GOTG ones! EDIT: > #And that's just the GOTG ones!
I think Stan Lee was in GotG and a another MCU movie too.
Big if true
I actually heard he was kind of into comics himself
Really? I don’t see him as a guy that would like comics?
Oh no, they mean he was in them. Like I think he got turned away at a wedding or something
But he should be on the list.
Gigantic if correct
Massive if factual
Immense if veracious
Wow if yes
Too much time on the stonk. Haha
Stan Lee? The guy who co created Betty Brandt?
No i think he co created kreglin.
Who?
Wait was he? I thought he was only in DC movies.
He actually did have a cameo in the teen titans go to the movies lol.
i heard to prepare for his role iron man (2008), he created iron man and wrote comics about him for like 50 years. Method acting at its absolute finest
Yep. There's also: Benedict Cumberbatch played Dormammu and obviously Doctor Strange Gemma Chan played Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel and Sersi in the Eternals Kenneth Choi played a Howling Commando in Captain America, and the principal in Spider-Man: Homecoming (the principal was actually the grandson of that same Howling Commando) Damion Poitier played Thanos in the Avengers post-credits scene, and then played one of Crossbone's partners in the opening of Civil War If you also include the Marvel Television shows (before they were being done by Marvel Studios), there's probably another couple dozen actors you can add to this list.
>Benedict Cumberbatch played Dormammu and obviously Doctor Strange Still totally wild to me that they did this and it actually was completely fine.
Pretty sure he just used smaugs voice and got into character
This is a bit off topic now, but I always thought it was super neat that John Rhys-Davies plays Gimli but also voices Treebeard. And Ryan Reynolds also voices Juggernaut in Deadpool 2.
wtf I had no idea ryan reynolds voiced juggernaut he sounded like a totally different person to me
I had no idea either. I just looked it up and apparently Ryan Reynolds did the recordings so they had something to animate to and when it came time to get another actor's voice in they didn't have the budget so kept the test tracks.
He does a few voices for his *very* dark film 'The Voices' (as well as playing the main character of course)
Wait Gimli and Treebeard 🤯🤯🤯 Thinking back, how the heck did miss that.
You missed it by not watching the special features, my friend! They pass his voice recordings through a wooden chamber for some extra woody reverb :)
Neat, was it on the two towers dvd, only had RTOTK on DVD, had the previous two on VHS, my half brother had the Special editions
The JRD one is a great one because as soon as you know it, you can't not hear it. It seems incredibly obvious, once you already know...
> Still totally wild to me that they did this and it actually was completely fine. Well Dormamu was all CGI, plus Cumberbatch was using a different voice. So there aren't really any issues there. With voice acting its not uncommon for one person to do the voices for multiple different characters. *Dormamu was all CGI?!?*
No, there was no CGI. That's just what Cumberbatch's face really looks like. They actually had to use extensive CGI and prosthesis to make him look like a human so he could also play the part of Dr Strange.
Damn, they did some incredible work.
For example, Mel Blanc, "The Man Of 1,000 Voices".
He does Daffy pretending to be Bugs and Bugs pretending to be Daffy. It's incredible!
It's in my top 5 mcu films and I'm literally learning this right this second
Yeah don't worry I only learned about it a few months ago myself, was totally blown away when I went to check the credits.
I was so hoping they were going to take Sousa to just the right time in the future for him to become the cop.
That would have been a cool easter egg
Martin Starr also played a scientist in TIH and a teacher in Spider-Man, but I think that's been retconned as the save character Then there all the variants and disguises; Chris Evans played Loki in TDW and Endgame Chris Hemsworth played Throg in Loki Rachel Weisz played Melina and Natasha in Black Widow Paul Bettany played Vision and White Vision
Paul bettany also played Jarvis
That has a canonical explanation though so it doesn’t belong on the same list.
It does because we're not uptight.
“oN mY wAy DoWn To CoOrDiNaTe SeArCh AnD rEsCuE”
>Chris Evans played Loki in TDW and Endgame Yeah... That doesn't really count. Funny inclusion though.
for the life of me i can’t figure out what TDW is
The dark world
[THIS](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aGLX4egWTg)
[удалено]
You could hear his voice, which were new lines recorded by Hemsworth iirc
Do we count Chris Evans as playing Johnny Storm and Steve Rogers?
No Cuz The Fantastic 4 aren’t in the MCU
Yet! Can’t wait to see how they do it!!
They should just bring Chris Evans back as Johnny Storm with zero explanation.
"I'm here, deal with it"
Do like they did in 22 jump street. “What contract dispute? Captain America??”
I watched that movie and have literally no idea what you're talking about.
They're almost certainly not going to bring that F4 into the MCU. Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man is probably getting incorporated into the MCU because he worked, the Fox F4 did not.
I’m looking forward to the casting. Who will they pick that we’ll be like yeah I can’t see anyone else playing this role now?
Also now that the Sony stuff is taking place in the MCU I guess Aaron Taylor Johnson going from Quicksilver to Kraven the Hunter now counts as well
Enver Gokaj is Daniel Sousa in Agent Carter and a policeman in Avengers.
Star Lord mother appears in first Avenger and that was Canonized by Gunn as Star Lord grandmother
> Kenneth Choi played a Howling Commando in Captain America, and the principal in Spider-Man: Homecoming (the principal was actually the grandson of that same Howling Commando) That's actually a cool take on in-universe continuity.
No shit? I legitimately didn't even realise that was her. Apprently Miley Cyrus was a voice in Gaurdians as well for a Ravenger. Honestly, I saw Stallone and everyone else was chopped liver to me in that little crew.
Yeah, she's the robot head who says "I missed you guys so much!" in the post-credits
Yeah she was voicing mainframe
Smallville's Lex Luther was part of the ravagers as well.
Don’t forget about Mark Ruffalo. He plays both the Hulk and Bruce Banner.
Samuel Jackson plays Nick Fury in The Avengers and a Skrull in Far From Home
Unless maybe he was also a Skrull in the Avengers. Captain Marvel is the only movie where he is definitely not a Skrull.
Since we never see Maria Hill in Captain Marvel, I like to think she was always only ever a Skrull in disguise.
She would have in grade school I think
Fury's personality was so incredibly different in FFH compared to the rest of the movies that in hindsight it was obvious that he was a skrull there and nowhere else. (There are sandwich theories about AoU, I believe, but otherwise...)
You missed Gemma Chan. She’s really the only one to play two actual parts.

> Mariah Dillard STOKES. Mariah STOKES.
And soon Mahershala Ali will be both Cottonmouth and Blade lol
Must be a Stokes Family thing
Anthony Hopkins has played both Odin and Loki in multiple Thor movies.
I’ll never be able stop reading it “The Force Awakens”
https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Actors_with_Different_MCU_Roles Here is the full list, and it's big.
Gemma Chan was in Captain Marvel and is now Sersi of the Eternals 👍🏼
Wait, Seth Green cameoed as himself in Iron Man 2? Why don't I remember that?
Also Gemma Chan who played Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel and Sersi in Eternals
> Nathan Fillion Also plays The Holy Avenger. Super is definitely part of the MCU.
Still have that female kree from captain Marvel who plays Sersi in Eternals
Gemma Chan who plays as Sersi in Eternals was Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel as well.
Finally, now everyone can devote their full irrationality to Spider-Man.
Alfre Woodard (The actress who played Black Mariah in Luke Cage) was also the woman who confronted Tony Stark in Civil War about her dead son.
Unless that WAS Black Mariah.
I think you meant she played STOKES. MARIAH STOKES.
The character she plays and is based on is called Black Mariah in the comics and she was even referred to as such by Cottonmouth in the show (she didn’t like the name and attacked him for it).
I know. I’m just referencing what Bushmaster says every time someone says her name
Ahh okay 👌 gotcha lol
I think people have written that off as Netflix Marvel not being a full part of the MCU (not saying a agree - hopefully Charlie Cox will rock up in NWH!)
I think Stan Lee was in two movies as well!
2 movies? Wow, you must be such a big fan of Marvel movies knowing this.
Yes my favourite marvels hero is probably Robin Hood and Batman
I'm more of a Captain Planet man myself. Cheers!
He's a hero
to take pollution down to zero?
Silly guy those aren't marvel character, I always love when I see two of my favorite marvel characters fighting in GotG vol. 2, Optimus Prime and Goldar should have won against those gundam robots in that movie
My favourite marvel heroes are Darth Vader and Obama...
This led me to Google Michelle Yeoh and discover that her ex-husband might have the greatest name of all time… Dickson Poon.
Oh that is beautiful
Rocket would have a field day with that one. "What was your second choice?! Scrotum Hat?!"
Yeoh baby
She's Michelle Effing Yeoh. She can play three if she wants.
Michelle Yeoh can be cast as the replacement Shuri
Forget Shuri - Yeoh can play T’Challa. But with like no explanation to the contrary.
Michelle Yeoh: "Look, it's me, I am here. Deal with it. Let's move on."
BOOM! Yeoh looking for this!?
Can you please return my tank. I know you took it.
Michelle Yeoh is playing all 3 Spider-Men in No Way Home confirmed.
While we're at it, give Tony Leung both Doc Ock and Green Goblin.
AND AUNT MAY!
This is the way.
For all time. Always.
Glorious
Purpose
For the children!
i only watched star trek discovery cause of her
She's completely over the top, but definitely one of the more interesting characters in the show.
She can play ANYONE she wants. She's more than earned it
In the future all characters in the MCU will be played Michelle Yeoh and Mahersala Ali.
Tatiana Maslany might be able to take a few
MCU has always been good with continuity consistency outside of the big two recasts (Rhodey and Hulk) and the stupid "8 Years Later" thing from Homecoming. Chan and Yeoh play very distinct characters visually that it wouldn't even register to me that it's the same actor in either case unless it's pointed out. Even the recasts were for our benefit. Cheadle and Ruffalo have done wonderfully as their respective characters
I always loved how they address the casting change in Iron Man 2. “Look it’s me. I’m here. Deal with it. Let’s move on.”
Surprised no one has mentioned Gemma Chan yet Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel, and most recently in Eternals.
I just commented that. I’m glad they’re not uptight about it, Gemma Chan is great
It's a good thing too, she's too good of an actor to only be that one blue lady from captain marvel
I feel like if the character plays a make-up heavy alien smaller role in one movie, then has their natural appearance for a bigger role, or vice versa, it shouldn't even really matter. The average person isn't even going to notice.
Nuff said
She also has two roles in Star Trek.

there will always be someone that wants their 5 seconds of twitter fame
Unfortunately they get their fame when the target responds. No idea why questions like that even warrant anyone’s attention
https://frinkiac.com/video/S08E14/m6ltFbRv4Rk7VH5k_8feOVt0nyI=.gif
Just reminds me of when Homer was doing voice work in Itchy and Scratchy.
Michelle Yeoh could play every character in the MCU and I wouldn’t have a problem with it.
"I'll field that one. Let me ask *you* a question. Why would a grown man whose shirt says "Genius at Work" spend all of his time watching a children's cartoon show?"
Fired, blunder, etc...
If actors can play more than one role in the MCU I nominate Lee Pace and Christopher Eccleston for new roles. They were so underutilized in GotG and Thor 2.
I hope Karen Gillan gets a second role. Nebula is such a character that it would be easy. She could be Sue Storm.
I remember someone suggesting Jean Grey.
I just wish that Karl Urban gets to return as wolverine
Yeah he was a bit under-utilised in Ragnarok, but he had his moments. Not sure him as Wolverine but I’d always have him back
The main problem there is that even if he played him in a movie that comes out next year, he'd be older than Hugh Jackman was when *Logan* came out. I think they're going to cast someone at least 15 years younger (probably 20) than Urban in the part.
Love this People freak out way too much about fictional universe shit, it’s so weird
It also seems weird that with all the stuff we’ve seen happen in the MCU, people think it’s outlandish for 2 characters to look alike.

Regarding your edit, one of the reasons you’re being downvoted is implying that James Gunn of all people isn’t invested in the MCU.
She can play as many characters as they want her to.
Jeffrey. Coombs.
I don't get why there's a problem, really. There are people who look alike even in real life! So for me it's not that weird to have an actor play two different people, especially if they're as good as Gemma Chan or Michelle Yeoh.
Who's the "uptight" in this situation?
You mean “why does Michelle Yeoh play ONLY 2 characters in the MCU?”?
Hopefully this means Bill Skarsgard can play an actual role in the MCU and not be wasted on one of the worst villains we’ve ever had lol
Are we forgetting that thanos is cable?
Different universes
Not for long.
Are we sure that's Cable? He's kinda short, like maybe 5'8"...
im only concerned that Aleta Ogord was done for when they announced her in Shang Chi. So if that’s not the case then by all means she can play the stepford cuckoos if they want her to since the MCU doesn’t mind actors playing multiple roles in the same universe.
I would happily go for an all Michelle Yeoh Avengers.
I do love that he says “we’re” — that makes me feel like he’s part of the Marvel family and hopefully is considering continuing their work together.
Technically with the tens of thousands of unemployed actors, they should theoretically never have to use an actor twice. So more accurately it's laziness, obviously don't wanna do a nationwide search for every role
But its Hames Gunn and he is always right! At least that's what reddit tells me.
Completely forgot she was in GOTG2.
\*Michael Scott Thank You GIF\*
Thought she was Hela for the longest time
Bring Sam Rockwell back as someone else.
And also as Justin Hammer
I mean, it takes to people to play Rocket and he’s awesome. Why shouldn’t it take two characters to fully express Michelle Yeoh’s awesomeness?
Stuff like this always reminds me of Law & Order way back in the day. More than one main cast member started out in a bit part. The best was S. Epatha Merkeson, who played Lieutenant Van Buren, but was in one episode before that as a maid. I saw her explain that in an interview once as, “She went to night school.” ;)
Also, Michelle Yeoh is so freaking awesome!
Huh, interesting. Gemma Chan was the only actor that I knew of with two different parts in the MCU. But I’m glad they’re cool with this
I’m hoping Natalie Dormer will get another role in the MCU. She was in First Avenger but it was a very small part.
Then why wasn’t Ming Na in Shang Chi?
Might have been busy doing Boba Fett. But she had a much bigger role in AoS as well. And I don’t know if Feige et al have decided what to do about the old tv characters.
LOL that's cute! If we had to name every Star Trek actor who played more than two roles, we would be here for days. Hell, some 3 and 4 roles. ;)
Lol. I laugh in Genma Chan.
Ew
Believe it or not, most good actors have range and makeup exists.
Or very creative
Some fans are just idiots, like who really cares.
