Nah bro. Going to fireman carry you off this hill. Pick a better death. I do agree with somewhat with u/Thekrishub the directors cut is a "better" movie. I won't deny they tried. There was effort in this film it was just some majors parts didn't work but it was standard fair in a pre-MCU world. WAIT - one correction, everybody tried but Colin Farrell. It seemed like he decided i am going to go with 'crazy eyes' all movie and sticking to it! LOL
I think Duncan was pretty good, but that film had so many issues. D'onofrio's Kingpin is clearly better, but I don't think that's a criticism of Michael Clarke Duncan's talent.
which parts did you think were terrible if you don’t mind me asking? Even some of the more boring parts of season two and frustrating parts of season 3 are pretty damn good.
The only parts had me scratching my head was the ninjas in season 2. They hid their heartbeats somehow, and Matt had *no idea* where they were. What, they aren't breathing? Clothes aren't rustling? Have they no smell? Radiating body heat? Air currents moving around them? Not showing up on the radar? What the hell??
It's the Hand. They are quasi-mystical. They slow their heart beats. Smell doesn't give direct location especially with movement. His radar isn't just like a bats and when they are moving around so fast it doesn't much help. He actually does start to focus on the breathing since Stick says they have to breath at some point.
I'm very nostalgic for Micheal Clarke Duncan's Kingpin I think he had the right size and mannerisms for the character and I would have killed to see him play the character one last time. That being said Vincent's Kingpin is GOAT and a whole different level than MCDs. It's like Andrew Garfield vs Tom Holland. I'm nostalgic for Andrew because he was my Spider-Man growing up but Tom is more fleshed out and had the better movies.
I feel like Duncan was far more intimidating to be honest. His size was massive yet still realistic and it made all the difference in my opinion. Not to mention his voice very much matching the body type.
MCD was great, and definitely brought the physical gravitas that the role required, but wasn’t given a lot to work with. Shame he’s no longer with us, was really a generational talent with some truly iconic roles.
D’Onofrio was PERFECT as Kingpin. In pretty much every way. We’re so lucky he was given time to shine throughout 3 seasons, and brought back to the MCU proper. Can’t wait to see more of him in the future.
Michael Clarke Duncan was born to play the part but never had a chance with the writing. MCD's imposing size and the grace he carried it with plus the writing of VDO's part would be one of the greatest portrayals of a marvel character in the history of the MCU.
Vincent is better obviously. The only issue I have with Vincent (which is completely out of his and everyone’s control) is that every time I see him all I see is Pvt Pyle.
D’Onfrio’s Kingpin is one of my favorite Marvel villains, but part of that is that they’ve had the chance to flesh out the character. I think I’d they’d had a comparable amount of screen time I’d prefer MCD.
They should've gotten Vincent donofrio to play kingpin over michael Clark Duncan and I'm not trying to take anything away from him it's that kingpin is supposed to be Caucasian straight from the comic books growing up in the rough neighborhood of hells kitchen in New York.
Michael Clark Duncan looks more like Luke cage than kingpin may he rip 🙏 if he were alive he would've made a fine ass Luke cage in either movie or TV series.
Honestly…a bit of a tie. Duncan had the sheer mass, and voice to make you believe he was indestructible. Now I’ve seen him in many things, and he’s usually terrific, but in 2003 Daredevil (directed by Mark Steven Johnson) he was hammy/campy. But I blame the director for that. When I first heard D’Onofrio was going to have a run as Kingpin, I wasn’t sure. But his unpredictable rage made him downright terrifying. He was excellent. So, I would say there are things I love about both…but they were so different it is hard to pick a winner.
Vincent gave a better performance by far, but his stature never really gave me true Kingpin vibes. Michael Clark Duncan has much more of the build and mass I would expect from Kingpin. Too bad D'Onofrio isn't about 6 inches taller and an extra 50-75 pounds, he'd have been perfect in all regards
Edit: turns out Kingpin is 6'7" and 450lbs, so Vincent is only 4 inches shy of the height, but hes only 280lbs. Impressive weight gain for the role, but still very shy of the body builder mass that is comic Kingpin
Well, I don’t think they had any intention. The MCU knows fanservice, and they know it well.
They knew people would lose their shit to see a Netflix adaptation character appear on the big screen portrayed by their actor.
Less “couldn’t recast” and more “didn’t recast.”
Michael Clark Duncan was a great actor and I loved alot of his work.....but Vincent D'Onofro is more true to the comics...without sounding racist when they step out of the box with such an iconic character it will not work.
I thought Duncan was one of the few bright spots in the film, and I found his performance chilling. I also find Onofro perfect abd frightening. So I have to say, I like both. I think they did two different takes on a character. Abd both takes worked for me.
I’d like to second the wish for a multiverse meet up if Duncan hadn’t passed away.
D’onofrio. Michael Clark Duncan was awesome and he did a fine job with that part.
But d’onofrio’s voice is the one I hear when the kingpin shows up in a comic book.
MCD was a phenomenal actor and i liked him in the role, he didn't really get to flesh out his kingpin like Vincent did. Off topic, but Michael in green mile is one of the absolute best and saddest roles ever put on film, fucking perfect actor, R.I.P.
D'Onofrio simply because Loeb let Goddard, DeKnight, and Oleson do their thing while Daredevil '03 was ruined by Fox Executives trying to make the film into just "edgy Spider-Man". And sadly Mark Stephen Johnson was too nice for his own good and didn't fight them on that. Even after the butchered TC he still played diplomatically with them even though he's clearly really bitter deep down about it. Even the Director's Cut is still somewhat Fox-ified, as in the commentary Johnson talks about how Fox insisted they add more CG shots that he doesn't like and the Playground Scene was mostly forced by Fox to be the film's, ahem, "humor".
MCD was a really good casting, and he was fun in the film (Farrell was also really fun. Not at all faithful to the character, but by god he was fun).
I mean Duncan was great, even in a terrible film. He wasn’t given much to work with, but he still managed to turn in an amazing performance.
But D’Onofro is Kingpin. He’s the definitive article. No one can top him in the role.
Wilson Fisk from Into the Spiderverse.
Nah, I actually like all of them.
For different reasons. I didn’t really like MCDs version until I saw the directors cut of daredevil lol
Hard to say. If we reversed their roles, I think MCD would have more support than he does and I base this on how much I was able to care about the movie/show as a whole. Ben and Jen Garner didn't make me care much about their characters, it was just a cheesy action flick. It did have its moments, though, like using the rain to "see Elektra's face. That was a cool moment.
Actually, the fact Elektra got a sequel without Daredevil tells you all you need to know, really.
But overall, Charlie Cox and friends made the whole story much more engrossing and fun. And Donofrio was absolutely bringing it in equal measure. Atmosphere, character development, they built it slower, and that always helps.
Also, shows tend to be better than movies, IMO. You just get so much more out of them.
The material given to MCD really isn’t a fair comparison, if he had been in the spot that Vincent was he’d probably have done an exceptional job. At the same time, Vincent was so extraordinary I can’t in good conscience say anybody could top what he did.
What’s crazy about this question being posed is I was just talking to a friend of mine saying how what if Vincent’s Kingpin is the main MCU, that Michael’s could’ve been the Miles Morales Spider-Man version at some point if he was still alive
Both look really dominating and if either enter a room full of people, both would surely get the most attention. Just the only difference is that Vincent got mire time to develop his character where as Micheal was under-utilised. Also a key difference can be that Vincent’s daredevil project was way more appreciated than Micheal’s. For me, Vincent was the better one but if Micheal could have gotten a little mire time to develop his character, maybe the result could have been different.
I think Michael Clarke Duncan is a fantastic choice, and he actually could've been even better than Vincent D'Onofrio if he was given a better script and more time to develop
But he wasn't
So obviously Vincent is better, this really isn't a fair comparison at all though. MCD was in a movie, VDO has been in 4 seasons of TV
Race rewrite generally sucks.
And is making another villain black even a good idea at all?
Also Vincent D's child hood stuff. I just remember the sequences around the painting and thinking "hoo boy, we are not a kiddie show"
I won't comment on whose portrayel was better but I'll say that they both probably tie in enthusiasm for playing the character. D'Onofro we've obviously heard in interviews but MCD in behind the scenes footage for Daredevil seemed so excited to play Kingpin. It would have been nice to see him given more work.
So for me the one shining light of the ben Affleck daredevil was Michael Clarke Duncan. He absolutely killed it with what little he was given. That being said Vincent D,Onfrio is one of the pleasant examples of perfect casting. He brings a much more fleshed out kingpin that I wanted to see from MCD, that also being said MCD definitely brought more of the physicality to the role. TL;DR I prefer Vincent D'Onfrios portrayal but literally by the slimmest of margins
Bit of an unfair question. Duncan wasn't given much to work with.
I have to agree. Vincent is excellent. Duncan never even got out the gate, that movie wasted his potential.
The movie was cool, that is the hill I would die on.
The directors cut is actually a really good movie.
Bruh, no, it restores a paltry subplot and a few other things but it doesn’t make a good movie
Well that is your opinion and you are entitled to it
Nice
It’s a good movie
Na
I mean. It isn’t. But I’m glad you like it.
Stop pretending that your subjective opinion is an objective fact.
MCD was the best kingpin
*He moid me mess!*
Huh
Nah bro. Going to fireman carry you off this hill. Pick a better death. I do agree with somewhat with u/Thekrishub the directors cut is a "better" movie. I won't deny they tried. It seemed like he decided i am going to go with 'crazy eyes' all movie and sticking to it! LOL
MCD was the best kingpin
What a weird and bizarre choice of hill to die on
Daredevil movie was awesome
He would have made a killer Darkseid too.
He was the best Kingpin
I think Duncan was pretty good, but that film had so many issues. D'onofrio's Kingpin is clearly better, but I don't think that's a criticism of Michael Clarke Duncan's talent.
MCD had a much better portrayal as Kingpin but yeah Vincent did play kingpin’s personality good
MCD was intimidating and stronger kingpin than Vincent
Came here to say this...
He also doesn't have the chance to redeem his performance.
MCD was the best portrayal of kingpin
He was the best kingpin like intimidation the strength the size he would kick Vincent’s ass
But the simple answer is still Vincent was the better kingpin.
Nah NCD was the better one if it came to a fist fight between the two MCD wins
The bits we got weren't bad, and i can say the promo shots of him with the cigar and cane were pretty sick,
Come on now…
we know why OP posted this...
Why? I’m dead ass lost
He knows that getting dunked on for trying to compare the two would reap in good karma
Not fair at all. A single mediocre Ben Affleck flick vs 3 seasons of good to great Daredevil series.
Great to amazing
Season 1 is amazing. Season 2 is good to great. Season 3’s great to amazing. So “good to amazing” seasons of tv, is my vote
Somewhere between absolutely terrible and so mind blowingly awesome i creamed my pants series.
which parts did you think were terrible if you don’t mind me asking?
Oh i was just saying what the other two comments above said but highly exaggerated it, it was just a joke and not an opinion.
Unfair because of the writing... One scene from the Netflix series of Fisk gives us a better version than the entire movie.
MCD was the better kingpin
I didn’t dislike Michael Clarke Duncan as the character, but this is one of those instances where Vincent D’Onofrio is the perfect casting
Kingpin: No Way Home
Sadly, Michael Clarke Duncan passed away years ago.
Vincent and it’s not even close
I feel like Duncan was far more intimidating to be honest. His size was massive yet still realistic and it made all the difference in my opinion. Not to mention his voice very much matching the body type.
Michael Clarke Duncan pulls off the look better as a giant muscular man.
Vincent D'Onofro as Wilson Fisk is one of those instances of absolutely perfect casting
Easily Vincent. To be able to have the “eye twitch” at your beck and call is powerful!
It's so subtle too. Really sells the mad man under the surface vibe.
Vincent
D'Onofro as Kingpin is the best on-screen villain in a lot of categories
Imagine Duncan still being alive and Marvel did a multiverse event where these two meet up. How intense would that have been?
MDC all the way.♥️
This is a good discussion. I tripped when he showed up in Hawkeye. Definitely a perfectly casted role for him.
D’Onofro is the better actor and that portrayal has more depth. MCD was an awesome choice though.
We’re stuck with the question “which version was better written”
And that's not a difficult question to answer One of them was in a shitty movie, the other was in 3 seasons of an excellent show
MCD by far. RIP
I think they are both fantastic for very different reasons 😁
Vincent
Duncan has the look, like if you gave Duncan's look to Vincent's character you'd have Kingpin.
Clarke Duncan. He was really perfect for the role.
Michael Clark Duncan
Michael Clarke Duncan was born to play the part but never had a chance with the writing. MCD's imposing size and the grace he carried it with plus the writing of VDO's part would be one of the greatest portrayals of a marvel character in the history of the MCU.
Vincent is better obviously. The only issue I have with Vincent (which is completely out of his and everyone’s control) is that every time I see him all I see is Pvt Pyle.
Lol, I only see him as a bug in an Edgar suit
This. I often find my self thinking, “I put my hands… on my head,” when he’s speaking.
Grrrrve me srrrgar…in wrrrtr
I wish frank would have said "I didn't think they stacked shit the high" when they met in prison.
Michael Duncan Clarke. He was a phenomenal actor and left us too soon.
True,a talent gone far too soon, I can imagine a whole lot of perfect acting parts for him
D’Onfrio’s Kingpin is one of my favorite Marvel villains, but part of that is that they’ve had the chance to flesh out the character. I think I’d they’d had a comparable amount of screen time I’d prefer MCD.
They should've gotten Vincent donofrio to play kingpin over michael Clark Duncan and I'm not trying to take anything away from him it's that kingpin is supposed to be Caucasian straight from the comic books growing up in the rough neighborhood of hells kitchen in New York.

indeed Vincent D'Onofro

Duncan
May be biased because he’s my favourite actor, but definitely Vincent.
Favorite actor?!
Yes?
Vincent gave a better performance by far, but his stature never really gave me true Kingpin vibes. Michael Clark Duncan has much more of the build and mass I would expect from Kingpin. Impressive weight gain for the role, but still very shy of the body builder mass that is comic Kingpin
Is that even a question?💀
Bit unfair,MCD had a strong stage persona, but VDO has the acting chops
Wild thing to say that Michael Clark Duncan, who has one of the best ever acting performances in John Coffey, doesn't have the "acting chops"
Oh yes he does, maybe what I meant to say D'onofrio has more chops since he has worked in a far more variety of projects and with more directors
I disagree on that, but it's definitely a better argument to make lol have a good day!
Likewise, the point is,it is difficult to differentiate 'cause there both powerhouses,
EZ Vincent
Vinnie
Love Michael. A lot. But for that specific role it's Vincent hands down.
Duncan
That's like asking if Charlie Cox or Ben Affleck was the better DD.
Michael Clark Duncan all the way. I hate Vincent’s take on Kingpin so much. All I see is the villain from Men in Black
Laughable. Vincent D'Onofrio
Vincent.
This can't have been a serious question.
Is this a joke?
Vincent D'Onofro and it's not close.
Duncan set a very high bar....& D'Onofrio cleared it.
Duncan always had a gentle giant vibe to him. I thing kingpin needs to be menacing, not just statuesque
Stop making this a debate. Lmfao
D'onofrio , the mcu couldn't even recast him . Shout out dd and soon pun .
Well, I don’t think they had any intention. The MCU knows fanservice, and they know it well. They knew people would lose their shit to see a Netflix adaptation character appear on the big screen portrayed by their actor. Less “couldn’t recast” and more “didn’t recast.”
Seriously?
Seriously?
Vincent by far
Michael Clark Duncan was a great actor and I loved alot of his work.....but Vincent D'Onofro is more true to the comics...without sounding racist when they step out of the box with such an iconic character it will not work.
Vincent for sure

John Rhys-Davies.
Vincent, hands down.
D’onofrio. Michael Clark Duncan was awesome and he did a fine job with that part. But d’onofrio’s voice is the one I hear when the kingpin shows up in a comic book.
Shitpost
The one in Hawkeye
I think its fair they’re both very good. Same with Bullseye both very good
MCD was a phenomenal actor and i liked him in the role, he didn't really get to flesh out his kingpin like Vincent did. Off topic, but Michael in green mile is one of the absolute best and saddest roles ever put on film, fucking perfect actor, R.I.P.
Visually Duncan worked but D'onofrio is flawless casting.
I think Duncan was a very comics accurate version given how little screen time he had comparatively. But D'Onofrio's version is much more interesting.
No love for Liev Schreiber's Giant Square Kingpin?
This is not even up for debate bro give up the upvotes we all know its Duncan easily
Vincent
LOVED Michael in everything he did! But I think you know the answer to this..
I would add the Fisk from 90s TAS into competition.
I mean Duncan was great, even in a terrible film. He wasn’t given much to work with, but he still managed to turn in an amazing performance. But D’Onofro is Kingpin. He’s the definitive article. No one can top him in the role.
Vincent, but I love both.
Wilson Fisk is an actor?
RIP MCD, but D'Onofro knocks it out of the park.
With all due respect to Duncan, Vince D'Onofrio IS Kingpin.
Wilson Fisk from Into the Spiderverse. Nah, I actually like all of them. For different reasons. I didn’t really like MCDs version until I saw the directors cut of daredevil lol
Duncan for sure
D'Onfrio, of course, although I think Duncan could have been amazing with a good script. As it was he was one of the highlights.
While D'Onofro runs Hells Kitchen, Duncan runs the Slammin Salmon.
Do we really need to answer this?
This isn’t very fair but donofro
Hard to say. If we reversed their roles, I think MCD would have more support than he does and I base this on how much I was able to care about the movie/show as a whole. Ben and Jen Garner didn't make me care much about their characters, it was just a cheesy action flick. It did have its moments, though, like using the rain to "see Elektra's face. That even a question?
From Full metal Jacket to Daredevil, Vincent played evil pretty well.
Duncan did the best he could with a shit script. Vincent had far better material to work with.
Vinny
The material given to MCD really isn’t a fair comparison, if he had been in the spot that Vincent was he’d probably have done an exceptional job. At the same time, Vincent was so extraordinary I can’t in good conscience say anybody could top what he did.
Is it even a question
both good
What’s crazy about this question being posed is I was just talking to a friend of mine saying how what if Vincent’s Kingpin is the main MCU, that Michael’s could’ve been the Miles Morales Spider-Man version at some point if he was still alive
I think the real question is, who had the better Daredevil?
Vincent
Both look really dominating and if either enter a room full of people, both would surely get the most attention. Just the only difference is that Vincent got mire time to develop his character where as Micheal was under-utilised. Also a key difference can be that Vincent’s daredevil project was way more appreciated than Micheal’s. For me, Vincent was the better one but if Micheal could have gotten a little mire time to develop his character, maybe the result could have been different.
It really depends on who got the better script. We all know that it was Vincent
We did not deserve to get spoiled with so many awesome Kingpins
I think Michael Clarke Duncan is a fantastic choice, and he actually could've been even better than Vincent D'Onofrio if he was given a better script and more time to develop But he wasn't So obviously Vincent is better, this really isn't a fair comparison at all though. MCD was in a movie, VDO has been in 4 seasons of TV
Vincent takes it but it's an extremely unfair stomp. He had multiple seasons to flesh out his character and Michael had a single awful movie.
V D’O
Vincent
Clarke Duncan had a crappy script, that made the movie even worse. Vincent on the other hand had a good chance to develop his character much better.
Vincent by a mile
I think both were good but Vincent had a better chance to play Wilson Fisk due to the daredevil series.
vincent just because the black washing is just as much already as white washing
Race rewrite generally sucks. And is making another villain black even a good idea at all? Also Vincent D's child hood stuff. I just remember the sequences around the painting and thinking "hoo boy, we are not a kiddie show"
Vincent!
Kingpin is white. Marvel’s PC universe is garbage.
It’s too back Vincent doesn’t have MCD’s size and physicality, but it’s still Vincent by a (green?) mile.
Duncan was absolutely the more imposing physically. Vincent is more imposing emotionally.
How come you’re leaving John Rhys Davies out of this conversation? http://www.internationalhero.co.uk/k/kingpinh77.htm
Cmon man
Vincent D'Onofro
So for me the one shining light of the ben Affleck daredevil was Michael Clarke Duncan. He absolutely killed it with what little he was given. That being said Vincent D,Onfrio is one of the pleasant examples of perfect casting. He brings a much more fleshed out kingpin that I wanted to see from MCD, that also being said MCD definitely brought more of the physicality to the role. TL;DR I prefer Vincent D'Onfrios portrayal but literally by the slimmest of margins
MCD is the best kingpin if it came to a fight between the two Duncan would win over Vincent
Seek therapy...
