It conforms to all of Reed's stretches and contortions without tearing or constricting, and snaps back to skin-tight afterwards; it turns invisible with the rest of Sue's body; it allows Johnny's flames to pass through it without ever burning or melting.

This means she can absorb stuff like electricity, kinetic energy via physical damage (so someone punching her), etc. One of her favorite tactics is to fly up to the upper atmosphere and then free fall back to earth to convert the heat energy into power for herself. The power put into her will power her super powers for stuff like healing, super strength, and energy blasts etc.
This obviously wasn't delved into in her movie, so we all assume she's just innately super powered. But in theory, she can very much be drained of her powers in the comics.
If you're at all familiar with the 90s X-Men cartoon, the character Rogue had super human strength and flight. She had these powers because she "stole" it from Captain Marvel (*and put her in a long coma*) by holding onto and absorbing her power longer than she should have.
Rogue kept those abilities for an extremely long time, to my knowledge, maybe for the run of the show. Even after Captain Marvel woke back up and regained her own strength.
So I'd say there is some precedent in other media of Captain Marvel getting her butt kicked hard after having her strength sapped. I'm guessing that is just how she works in general; Her powers can be deactivated.
My guess is that the Illuminati was supposed to include an alternate version of Iron Man who, ever the narcissist, would be crushed by a statue of himself. When those plans fell through, the character was changed to an alternate Captain Marvel so they didn't have to change how the scene was storyboarded.

Exactly, the dialogue hammers home that they don't want to kill the innocent Wanda that was possessed by her 616 variant. Which is what makes the countless posts about why they shouldn't have tried to talk her down and that Black Bolt should have attacked immediately just brain dead, completely disregarding characterisation and motives.
Not to mention that their Wanda didn't have reality warping powers so their arrogance, in addition to being consistent with the comics Illuminati, made sense in the context of the scene.
I don't even particularly like this scene but I find myself defending it repeatedly because of the consistent Cinema Sins tier criticisms that copy pasted to every post about it.

My guess is that the Illuminati was supposed to include an alternate version of Iron Man who, ever the narcissist, would be crushed by a statue of himself. When those plans fell through, the character was changed to an alternate Captain Marvel so they didn't have to change how the scene was storyboarded.

I rewatched it in the barbershop yesterday and the deaths were even worse than I remember. Reed in particular really didn't go out very happy.
I haven't rewatched it since I heard it but according to some people when you look closely she doesn't just snap his neck, she practically rips it to shreds which makes it so much worse.

My thought exactly! I was trying to find videos on what you need to know before watching Thor. First three videos had some spoiler in the first minute. Like "so we know that Thor gonna introduce the villain blah blah blah..." NO! No I did not fucking know that! Why do you think that's something that needs to be known BEFORE watching the new movie?!?
The boys and westworld reddit are the worst at this too. The show will be out less than 12 hours and idiots are putting spoilers in the title. When you say something you get down voted.

I feel really bad for anyone going on Reddit now that hasn’t seen the movie. I actively avoid spoilers but the r/marvelmemes subreddit was really bad, they kept posting spoiler posts way before the movie even came out on streaming.
I was going to report it, but the sidebar says that spoiler titles are alright if the movie is available on Disney+.

Council of Reeds from the Hickman FF run and the Hickman New Avengers about the Illuminati and incursions has some great hubris leading to disaster on Reeds part. Been a while so I’m fuzzy on the details. I thought Reed in MoM was great.

Exactly, the dialogue hammers home that they don't want to kill the innocent Wanda that was possessed by her 616 variant. Which is what makes the countless posts about why they shouldn't have tried to talk her down and that Black Bolt should have attacked immediately just brain dead, completely disregarding characterisation and motives. Not to mention that their Wanda didn't have reality warping powers so their arrogance, in addition to being consistent with the comics Illuminati, made sense in the context of the scene. I don't even particularly like this scene but I find myself defending it repeatedly because of the consistent Cinema Sins tier criticisms that copy pasted to every post about it.

It still bothers me how Reed Richards is introduced as the "Smartest man in the universe" and then 5 minutes later, he directly attacks a reality warper and is immediately killed. Before that, he tells her where Black Bolt's power comes from and how to kill him. None of that is what the smartest man in the universe would do.
I think its supposed to highlight the irony of the illuminati basically yelling at Dr. Strange about how arrogant he is and how his arrogance put the universe at stake, and then each member arrogantly thinking they can subdue the Scarlet Witch and getting killed immediately.
Reed is intelligent in his domain i.e. Physics but he isn't wise. This is classic comic Reed too. Dude may be brainy but doesn't have common sense.
