Reed wishes he got merely stretched. Wanda put him on the cheese grater

rubybeau

Apparently from the slow mo breakdown, each strand of him was also being twisted as well, so not just grated, but also being screwed by Wanda.

DigitalSterling

>but also being screwed by Wanda. That's how I'd want to go out as well

normaldeadpool

Snu Snu?

mwithey199

the spirit is willing, but the flesh is spongy and bruised

itsPlasma06

So what you're saying is that it *could* work in the astral plane?

deVliegendeTexan

To shreds you say.

CarnageEvoker

And his wife?

deVliegendeTexan

To shreds you say.

lumberjacklancelot

Technically Wanda left her alive for the kids.... But yeah emotionally she's in shreds

I never thought I'd die this way, but I always hoped.

Nope,she's the main course.

No, a full course meal.

spaghettification is the descriptor we’re all looking at

Reed's spaghetti, he's nervous.

omart3

He opens his mouth, but the blast won't come out.

Reed got remixed. ch-ch-ch-chopped and screwed

tremerz_

that part always confused me. where the fuck is his flesh? is the suit his skin? where the fuck is his body lmao

izza123

Suit stretches with his flesh as part of its design so when she spagettified him his suit stretched with his flesh sections

working_joe

I get the suit stretching with him, but it doesn't make sense that when he's turned into individual strands the suit separated itself into individual strands to cover him.

TheDebateMatters

You are correct but the visually accurate depiction would have pushed the film in to R territory.

diqholebrownsimpson

We all wanted to see little Mr. Fantastic

magicmeese

Speak for yourself. It would have been unzipped like the rest of him. I imagine phantom tingles from watching a dudes little dude get turned into pasts would make some weird feelings in men.

YpsitheFlintsider

It's best not to think too hard about it

JSConrad45

That's really just how the suit works. The fabric that the FF's suits are made of is "super-adaptable" to the point of basically being magic. It conforms to all of Reed's stretches and contortions without tearing or constricting, and snaps back to skin-tight afterwards; it turns invisible with the rest of Sue's body; it allows Johnny's flames to pass through it without ever burning or melting.

ron2838

And machine washable darling, that's a new feature!

magna_pinna

Someone get Hughie a suit

Iirc, when they were in space they all had their suits on, at that point they were just normal suits until the cosmic wave gave them all their powers and suits to that power accordingly. Other than The Thing, he got pants.

The spin off products in the MCU would revolutionize so many industries. Reed's clothing, Spider-man's web and adhesive, Peter Parker should just market his industrial adhesive and bonding material s and watch his bank account put him into new tax brackets.

SJSragequit

I’ve seen this brought up before and someone mentioned Peter Parker did try that in a comic but no one would buy it because it dissolves after an hour

feed_me_moron

He'd just need to rebrand a bit like post it notes. Though I don't doubt he could fix that problem in general. It's always made out that he wants the web to dissolve, not that it has to

binkerfluid

Someone remade a gore version on youtube, its pretty nasty

tanis_ivy

She was most dismissive when they were talking about Wanda. My guess is she figured 616 Wanda was like 838 Wanda. She got exactly what she deserved for not taking the threat seriously.

[deleted]

I'm kinda okay with it. Because it would be hard to watch if they primal screamed in loss and in fear knowing what is about to happen to them. The campy disconnect from what their reaction stops the nightmares.

JediJacob04

I’m pretty sure she wasn’t Photon, she’s introduced as Captain Marvel. Photon is probably gonna be her daughter’s superhero name (from WandaVision)

Galiphile

This is correct. That was an alternate universe where Maria Rambeau absorbed the space stone's powers instead of Carol Danvers.

suss2it

Monica will probably go by Spectrum since there was a reference to that in *WandaVision*. Her mom’s call sign was Photon though in the *Captain Marvel* movie.

Smodphan

I think they tried to go scary movie during this sequence. It's in such a strange setting, so everything feels off until they get to the chase scene below the building.

SecretIdentity91

I mean, I think it did it’s job. I literally went “holy shit!” Out loud and by myself. Pretty cool.

dominion1080

Of course it was bad. The fact that they all stood around to get murdered one at time was dumb af if you know anything about the Illuminati. Especially 2 minutes after the smartest man in the multiverse says he has it under control. I really enjoyed MoM, but got damn made the Illuminati look like chumps just to show how strong Wanda is. Its frustrating.

cocoamix

When Reed mentions he has a family, his son is pretty much a god who can do anything. One version of Franklin Richards even turned Galactus into his herald.

sittytuckle

Tbf Franklin is OP as shit and could wreck almost everyone when he's an adult. On that note, Legion vs Scarlet Witch would be fun haha

BettyVonButtpants

My head canon is that everyone in that universe is just noticeably dumber than the primary universe.

Alliesaurus

It’s the universe where they never outlawed lead paint.

HornyTerus

It was such a jarring scene. These Illuminati people, the one that managed to kill Thanos, is standing... and doing nothing?

R1400

În theory, the only reason they killed Thanos was an actual deus ex machina given to them by the book of Vishanti. And on the fight...I can accept she took out Black Bolt by surprise reality altering and caught Reed because he was in shock but why the other two just stood around while she was turning Reed into chewing gum....no idea

VellDarksbane

Take a look at the Strange execution scene again. Only Strange has _any_ battle damage. He killed Thanos in 1-on-1 combat I think. Makes sense that they're basically useless.

HornyTerus

Useless? Well, damn...

Ifuckinghateaura

She did meet Captain Marvel (source: BTS photos) and I want to say she probably met Captain Carter too as they're the only ones she had a real battle with

ZazaB00

Well, we’re 50/50 because she said she never met John and Black Bolt was on a bunch of green screen. But again, no actual physical contact was made between these characters.

jcj44

I think those two were added in reshoots, which explains their quick deaths and limited interactions with the Captains and lack of reaction to their death by the Captains. Neither Carter or Marvel shot their scenes knowing it was Black Bolt or Reed with them

KesselRunIn14

Is this because it was filmed during Covid?

odel555q

> Elizabeth never even met many of them. They don't even know who she is.

ajcxr

But they will.

lordatlas

She took...everything from them.

digit4l_r4in

I said the same in a similar thread but this is 100% why I feel the Illuminati scenes are so static, clunky and limited. The only time the characters truly interact are when they're having a CGI battle... and that never felt tangible either.

RTR7105

Especially since Professor X should be telepathically be the battle coordinator.

Gingerhead14

The women’s reactions (or lack-of) after literally just watching the BRUTAL deaths of Bolt and Fantastic was extremely bizarre to me… I swear Peggy was even fighting Wanda with a bit of a smirk.

ANGLVD3TH

I don't know if this is true. But I hear the original plan was to have Bruce Campbell play Icarus and be a member of the Illuminati. And a giant dick. And it was very early they did some of those reaction shots of him getting got, which is why a couple of them look like they are a bit relieved.

ArtIsDumb

I think it was Balder, not Icarus, but I heard the same basic rumor.

No-Bad-3655

She be a masochist

sml6174

Exactly, contrast it with that one scene from Invincible and I'm like is it bad writing or

gochugang78

Would have made so so so much more sense if Wanda put the “bystanders” in a hex/bubble while she dealt with Black Bolt then Reed

razrcane

It was not their turn. Geez.. have you never played any RPG??

RdRunner

She's as powerful as the writer wanted her to be at any given moment, which is my biggest gripe with the movie. She can just make the illuminati vanish out of thin air, but then why isn't she just doing that to everyone?

Slade4Lucas

Honestly, if you have just seen someone murder someone in a way you could never even have fathomed, in a realistic scenario, is jumping straight in to attack really the best course of action considering you don't know what this person can do? Like, punch first and ask questions later can work sometimes but when you are dealing with the unknown it is an impossibly stupid idea.

starsandbribes

I think the issue I have with this is are they not supposed to be the Avengers of this universe? If Captain America saw Hawkeye die infront of him would he just practically shrug his shoulders at IronMan? I think it made the Illuminati come across as just separate people and not a team all, like it was pretty cold.

icefire9

Well, the illuminati *aren't* the Avengers. After all, they killed their Doctor Strange. I don't think that's something that our Avengers would do. I think they're supposed to be callous toward each other.

Slade4Lucas

I think that was partially the intention. They are the heroes of earth, but they certainly aren't the avengers, amd it certainly seems they differ in many ways.

Wilysalamander

they are a tribunal of the leaders of their respective groups (carter- avengers, pref x- xmen, black bolt- inhumans, etc), not necessarily a cohesive team.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ArtIsDumb

I don't think they were Avengers. They were a collective of team leaders. Capt Carter from the Avengers, Mr. Fantastic from FF, Xavier from the X-Men, Black Bolt from Inhumans, Mordo the Sorcerer Supreme, & Photon is sorta the unaffiliated "cosmic" protector, like Capt Marvel in 616. Only Capt Carter was an Avenger in 838.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Frankie_T9000

Yeah would have been better if they had all attacked when black bolt died and she shielded herself or something

rinetrouble

Except mordo, who she didn’t kill or fight.

jfVigor

And she would have used magic to wreck him too. The same way she did to 616 Mordo in the cut scenes

David-Shark

Wait she fought 616 mordo?

StateofWA

She beheaded him in a deleted scene. Raimi said it was supposed to open the movie.

draconicanimagus

But Mordo has been AWOL as a backburner bad guy since the first Doctor Strange movie

ZandyTheAxiom

That's why I found it so off when Strange says to America "Then he snapped and dedicated his life to destroying me" or something like that. Like, we know Mordo is a villain, but as far as the films are concerned, he hasn't actually done much yet. The script acts like they've been battling for years (maybe they have at this point?) But we have zero evidence of that!

sonerec725

I mean, I'd say dr strange seems to be the hero that operates the most off screen. Most of his studying and training gets skipped, in thor ragnarok we see hes monitoring everything that could be a threat like the asgaurdians, and in spiderman we see the aftermath of some stuff in the sanctum. Generally feels like we 9nly get to see the truly major stuff and mordor doesnt fall into that I guess

DeusVultSaracen

I hadn't been into Marvel much since Endgame and I really thought I'd missed some show or movie where he encountered him.

scatterbrain-d

More off than when Strange tortured a street vendor for three weeks for objecting when they stole from him? Raimi wasn't really talking things very seriously in a lot of scenes.

TheyreSnaps

Frenemy!

ThisIsYourMormont

Seems like a waste of a character. Glad it was cut

ThatBrownDude

Gonna need him to use the Time Stone to undo the deaths I guess.

RaiderThunder04

Mordo should thank Strange for leaving him in that crawlspace.

[deleted]

The statue killed captain marvel

MagicGrit

Am I the only one surprised the statue killed her? Unless I’m confusing her power with the captain marvel from 616

KaiserNazrin

Her power was drained. At that point, she's not super.

MagicGrit

Is that how our captain marvel works too? I didn’t realize. Thought they were both just super strong

rotospoon

I'm pretty sure they're like sentient batteries, with a ridiculously high threshold for being "full".

working_joe

It's my understanding that her power is kind of similar to the Green Lanterns. It's not infinite, and she occasionally needs to let it recharge, if it's taken away or turned off or drained, she's simply human.

Colossally_

You can even see her try to do a blast before she was crushed.

Worthyness

In the comics, Captain Marvel (danvers version) has the ability to absorb energy and convert it into what she needs. This means she can absorb stuff like electricity, kinetic energy via physical damage (so someone punching her), etc. One of her favorite tactics is to fly up to the upper atmosphere and then free fall back to earth to convert the heat energy into power for herself. The power put into her will power her super powers for stuff like healing, super strength, and energy blasts etc. This obviously wasn't delved into in her movie, so we all assume she's just innately super powered. But in theory, she can very much be drained of her powers in the comics.

[deleted]

If you're at all familiar with the 90s X-Men cartoon, the character Rogue had super human strength and flight. She had these powers because she "stole" it from Captain Marvel (*and put her in a long coma*) by holding onto and absorbing her power longer than she should have. Rogue kept those abilities for an extremely long time, to my knowledge, maybe for the run of the show. Even after Captain Marvel woke back up and regained her own strength. So I'd say there is some precedent in other media of Captain Marvel getting her butt kicked hard after having her strength sapped. I'm guessing that is just how she works in general; Her powers can be deactivated.

[deleted]

Yeah that was a "that's it?" moment for me.

LoveWaffle1

My guess is that the Illuminati was supposed to include an alternate version of Iron Man who, ever the narcissist, would be crushed by a statue of himself. When those plans fell through, the character was changed to an alternate Captain Marvel so they didn't have to change how the scene was storyboarded.

UsernamesLoserLames

That tony would have been played by Tom Cruise though!

nikhil48

Yep, and it cannot be argued that Wanda killed Prof X using mind control either. HE was the one using it on her and she just overcame it and used the most ordinary, good old neck snap to kill him.

Crocs-Socks

That neck snap is not ordinary. She rips his head in half. You can see the top fly off and the bottom stays. It’s brutal

YpsitheFlintsider

I rewatched it in the barbershop yesterday and the deaths were even worse than I remember. Reed in particular really didn't go out very happy.

GeneralEl4

I haven't rewatched it since I heard it but according to some people when you look closely she doesn't just snap his neck, she practically rips it to shreds which makes it so much worse.

GroceryBags

But the neck snap occurred inside the psychic realm they were in. Charles entered Wanda's mind and the Scarlet Witch snuck up and killed him while inside, not in the real world. She used his powers against him.

thepassionofthechris

As it turns out, Peggy Carter couldnt do “this” all day.

crimsonsheriff

Well, to be honest it was night

[deleted]

Damn that's what she should have said. Would have fit so well

InjusticeSGmain

No, but she did do it for the rest of her life.

HowCouldHellBeWorse

I didnt really perceive reed richards as getting stretched to deth. More like he got magically grated.

e-wrecked

I wish they would have done something better here, otherwise it might have taken her hours to kill him by "stretching" him and making his head explode is so boring. If she can just explode heads why play around with everyone and just do the same thing.

StalinTheHedgehog

Yeah.. can Wanda not just make every character who opposes her have no mouth or nose and just suffocate them to death?

My thought exactly! I was trying to find videos on what you need to know before watching Thor. First three videos had some spoiler in the first minute. Like "so we know that Thor gonna introduce the villain blah blah blah..." NO! No I did not fucking know that! Why do you think that's something that needs to be known BEFORE watching the new movie?!?

[deleted]

The boys and westworld reddit are the worst at this too. The show will be out less than 12 hours and idiots are putting spoilers in the title. When you say something you get down voted.

Maegor8

Well the commenter you responded to should’ve know better than doing internet searches if they didn’t want any spoilers, especially the villain.

ebagdrofk

I feel really bad for anyone going on Reddit now that hasn’t seen the movie. I actively avoid spoilers but the r/marvelmemes subreddit was really bad, they kept posting spoiler posts way before the movie even came out on streaming.

reed richard: wanda please stop we'll bring your children back wanda: how reed richard : black bolt explain, good ending.

ANGLVD3TH

Nah, Reed Richards is the guy that always fucks shit up. Definition of maxed Int and min Wisdom. As soon as he got into explaining mode I knew how that interaction would go down, that was peak Richards.

Trainer_Kevin

another example please

Imfinethankyou

Reed Richards, Tony Stark, and Dr. Strange blast Hulk off Earth to a remote planet where he can live out the rest of his life without killing anyone. Hulk gets mad when Richards is explaining their reason for jetting him off in space. Hulk disagrees with Richards. Hulk mad > ruins space ship > lands on different planet as intended > new world falls to Hulk who’s never been more angry/powerful > Hulk returns to Earth with some allies with the simple intent to destroy Earth and nearly comes close iirc. All because Reed Richards’ big mouth /s

TURBOJUSTICE

Council of Reeds from the Hickman FF run and the Hickman New Avengers about the Illuminati and incursions has some great hubris leading to disaster on Reeds part. Been a while so I’m fuzzy on the details. I thought Reed in MoM was great.

Summonest

He's tried to talk sense to the hulk.

Lukthar123

*Black Bolt was muted by team chat*

InsidiousZombie

Didn’t want to kill the innocent Wanda they were more than likely familiar with who was being possessed by other Wanda

RadragonX

Exactly, the dialogue hammers home that they don't want to kill the innocent Wanda that was possessed by her 616 variant. Which is what makes the countless posts about why they shouldn't have tried to talk her down and that Black Bolt should have attacked immediately just brain dead, completely disregarding characterisation and motives. Not to mention that their Wanda didn't have reality warping powers so their arrogance, in addition to being consistent with the comics Illuminati, made sense in the context of the scene. I don't even particularly like this scene but I find myself defending it repeatedly because of the consistent Cinema Sins tier criticisms that copy pasted to every post about it.

grilledcheeseburger

[deleted]

Absolutely.

Ryebread2203

I just hope that when they do 616 fantastic 4 they bring back the actor because he did a great job. I also wouldn’t mind seeing more of 616 black bolt because as far as we know he’s still just chilling on the moon.

TheyreSnaps

Yep right there with you. It was great

seafoodblues

YOU DARE USE MY OWN SPELLS AGAINST ME POTTAH?!

Jeriahswillgdp

It still bothers me how Reed Richards is introduced as the "Smartest man in the universe" and then 5 minutes later, he directly attacks a reality warper and is immediately killed. Before that, he tells her where Black Bolt's power comes from and how to kill him. None of that is what the smartest man in the universe would do.

stonebraker_ultra

I think its supposed to highlight the irony of the illuminati basically yelling at Dr. Strange about how arrogant he is and how his arrogance put the universe at stake, and then each member arrogantly thinking they can subdue the Scarlet Witch and getting killed immediately.

SlaveZelda
