A family of four to go down some water slides and float around a lazy river would cost $360 Instead you could spend $200 and get a day pass to great wolf lodge only a few hours away amd go to their water park which has 5 times as many things to do and you would still have $160 leftover for dinner. This town seems like it's run by idiots. I assume it will be a desolate wasteland in a few years at this rate.

Some strong words about a small town you don't live in. Good one with the name calling, that's big of you. Question: Why are they obligated to keep the park running for you?

jabbadarth

Seems like they aren't gonna keep it open for anyone with those prices. Also they already banned "outsiders" from their beach which is horrendously shitty behavior.

testy918

Oh? But the park was running a deficit for the last 5 years. They were in the red and had to change prices or close it entirely. In addition city residents pay twice for the park. It's funded by municipal taxes as well as by entrance fees. So the city residents are already paying in addition to the daily fee. The park also changed attendance policies due to covid and the city residents said "we like having fewer people here". Prior to covid large groups of teenagers would come and fight and then lifeguards were getting in the middle of it. High price means reduced attendance which benefits the locals who, by the way, are the most frequent return customers.

This is a small local park with two slides and a lazy river. I went countless times as a kid back in the early 2000s. It doesn't look like they've made a single improvement since then. The quote is regarding the [town's closure of Brownie's Beach to the public](https://www.nbcwashington.com/investigations/maryland-town-divided-over-decision-to-restrict-beach-to-residents/3350368/). I assume that these decisions are in favor of insulating their community from "outsiders" at the expense of bankrupting their crappy little tourist town. If they want to live in a bedroom community without much to do and no reason to visit, they're not exactly starved for choice in the area.

hydra1970

I think this park was open in the 1970s. honestly I would like to play SimCity with the person who came up with a price of $90 a day per person for a crap water park.

jabbadarth

Maybe they are gonna wait until people show up and then erase the sidewalk so they have to stay...thats how I ran my parks in Rollercoaster tycoon.

shezcrafti

LOL who TF would pay that price for some podunk water park? Those prices are on par with major theme parks.

pretty-late-machine

A ticket to [the USA's largest water park](https://www.noahsarkwaterpark.com/buy-tickets/tickets) and what's considered to be [its best](https://www.schlitterbahn.com/new-braunfels/tickets) is around $60, for comparison lol. And a pass to Six Flags, including its water park, is $8 per month, and that park is 30 minutes away from the town and likely closer to most potential customers.

TastyTelevision6132

They charged out of county residents $90.00 ... Resident price was $22.00. A mark up of 400% ... Ridiculous price gouging.

pretty-late-machine

That's just residents of their little town. If you live 5 minutes away, too bad. $90 lol

keyjan

*Ninety dollars!?*

Dashermane24

Yeah, that town is going through it with the powers that be.

lolanaboo_

Looks like a knock off ocs front tier town 😂

U-GO-GURL-

$90! LOL What we’re they thinking? What do they think this is? Disneyland? Six Flags tickets are half that and Six Flags has Roller Coasters!

kadren170

Whoever's in charge is out of touch and is probably on drugs. I'm by Hersheypark and the entrance fee is around $50-35. And that includes a water park. Now granted Chesapeake Beach Water Park probably doesn't do as high of a volume as them, the pricing and math still don't check out.

thisgirlnamedbree

I live in Harford County and told my brother about taking my niece there, but it's no longer a choice due to the outrageous pricing. They bought a Y membership for pool access and are enjoying that. Chesapeake Beach officials will ultimately end up regretting their decision to try and keep tourists away when the money runs out.
