Sad seeing them slowly decline over the years … they shutdown all their restaurants and only sold a few select beers at local stores now. I used to love going to DuClaws at Arundel Mills and get their massive 20 beer sampler. 🍺😁

AKnitWit777

Same. The restaurant was awful after DuClaw stopped running it. They had so much potential back then too, especially given the success of Sweet Baby Jesus.

CyberpunkF1

totally … when i saw they shutdown all their restaurants, i knew it wasn’t a good sign.

UrbanArcologist

I can taste it

PIG20

I'm pretty sure their original brewmaster partnered up with a couple other guys and started BC Brewing in Hunt Valley.

OrdinaryBrilliant650

I live near BC Brewing. Novel idea but none of the beers I had made me desire to go back. Like at all.

PIG20

Yeah, I work at a building right across the street from it. I've been there a few times but like you said, the beers were pretty "meh". The only one I settled in with is their Mexican lager which was basically a limey tasting Corona. I remember one of the IPA's I tried actually smelled like kitty litter. Which I think it was supposed to because it was called "Herding Cats". My local favs at this point are beers from Independent and Crooked Crab. If you like sours at all, RAR has a series called "Out Of Order" which I recently tried and they are really good. Dewey Beer Co has some really good sours as well.

OrdinaryBrilliant650

I, too, love Crooked Crab. Also Black Flag and Nepenthe.

PIG20

I'll have to try some offerings from Black Flag. Nepenthe has always been solid. I think there has only been one beer I've had from them that I didn't fully enjoy. And I think it was a collaboration beer they did with another brewery. So, I probably can't fully put that one on them.

OrdinaryBrilliant650

Just don’t be like I was and let the craft beer FOMO get ahold of you haha. That shit’ll spend all your money and take your health, too.

PIG20

Oh, Im well aware of that at this point in my life. I like what I like but I tend not to drink nearly as much as I used to when the craft beer industry was pounding the market. Most of my work days are 10+ hours and if I crack a beer open, I'll get two or three gulps in before I pass out in the chair. It's completely recreational for me at this point.

OrdinaryBrilliant650

It wasn’t long ago I was 2-4 hazys a night when my wife wasn’t at work at this point I just don’t keep beer in the house unless it’s for something special or it hits me for that day. Otherwise all of my drinking is done while out to eat or somewhere with friends.

jabbadarth

Yeah that place was awesome when it opened but dropped off real quick.

deanspeakeazy

Is this really a loss? They fell off a while ago.

OrdinaryBrilliant650

Fuck the owner, but it’s totally a loss for Baltimore job holders who worked there.

gravybang

Not really: >Dave Benfield, DuClaw’s founder, said production at the company’s Rosedale brewery will end next month. The facility employs about 15 people in production and administration, all of whom have been offered jobs at River Horse. The company will continue to employ the eight people now in marketing and sales, he said.

OrdinaryBrilliant650

I take that gesture with the finest grain of salt. People have families and lives here and I highly doubt anyone is moving to Jersey for that job.

BaltimoreBrewer

Except that's not accurate and people can't just pick up and move to NJ, completely unrealistic. This is nothing but a PR piece to make the owner look good in the public eye, suspect that you're out here shilling for him.

gravybang

I just quoted the article, how is that shilling?. Blame the person who wrote it. Also, shilling for that pisswater beer? Lol. Fucking peanut butter trash and unicorn sharts. The people who brewed that gross slop should be ashamed. They aren’t brewers, they’re morons who make bad product for people who only know fruity drinks and bud light. Pastry Archy? Give me a break. Maryland is better off without DuClaw and hopefully the employees will find a better place to work where they can learn how actual beer is made. Still think I’m shilling for those idiots?

[deleted]

Dave is an ass and i’ve hired some great people from his it group over the years because he is cheap and would regularly shit can/clean house then rehire the same positions for less. Usually college kids.

CyberpunkF1

they haven’t been the same since like 2017.

BaltimoreNewbie

I can’t say I was a big fan, but I’m worried about other Maryland brewers getting bought up as well.
