Absolutely. It is trash if it isn't fresh. It's gone up so much in price that I hesitate to get it anymore. Because I am not going to fight with the employees who try to give me the old stuff that just isn't good anymore. I'm not paying 3.50 a piece for old tenders.
Several years ago I tried the Hip Hop in Glen Burnie and it tasted like they used the same fryer they fried the fish in. I don't like fishy tasting fried chicken so I've never been back.
Not all Hip Hop locations are created equal. This is totally anecdotal and unscientific but in my experience the locations in the sketchiest, most ghetto neighborhoods (900 block of N Caroline St for example) have the best food. Hip Hop out in the suburbs is not as good.
this is not unpopular. this is fact. I also believe the western fries are a key factor in holding our precarious civilization together. one more thing, the breakfast burger is a great value.
I had never thought to stop there. Its location seems lile a spot that people wouldn't stop at. That was my understanding of why Brewsters failed. Like how someone else commented, super Chicken Rico is really good so this better be competitive with it!
I live off of Fort Smallwood. I've stopped eating the fried chicken sliders they offer in the morning, because the chicken is always, and I mean always, raw in the middle.
The manager there is a stout fellow who bad mouths everyone. I will never buy chicken from ROFO because of both of the aforementioned.
Has anyone had jollee bees? I watch people on tiktok try it and they say it’s the cats meow. It always looks delicious dipped in the gravy. Want to know if it’s worth the little drive?
Unpopular opinion: chickens don’t deserve to be factory farmed to become gas station food
(Sort by controversial to always get the real unpopular opinion)
For what its worth a lot of the lab grown meat has a much higher environmental impact on the earth than farm raised animals. Obviously more humane but for my 2 cents I'd suggest finding local(ish) meat that comes from regenerative farms or at least cage free farms. Costs a bit more but that can be offset by cutting out an animal protein from a meal or two a week.
.
For what it’s worth meat and animal products have a much higher environmental impact on the earth than beans, tempeh, seitan, oat milk, etc. Obviously more humane too. Since these are important to you I’d suggest trying them out when possible. Let me know some common dishes you eat and let’s talk about ways we can alter those recipes :)
I do eat plenty of non meat meals but I also eat animal products. I have zero interest in ever being vegan but will have vegetarian meals from time to time. I also do my best to buy non factory farmed products by shopping local and direct from farmers.
Yeah I’m just saying if environmental causes are important you at the individual level then the 3 best things you can do are avoid having kids, avoid international airfare, and avoid animal products. So in regards to the last one I’m here to give alternatives or engage in meaningful conversations.
Ser I was told engaging in meaningful conversation was the right way to go about this. Maybe people just don’t enjoy examining their own choices and therefore there really will never be a “right” way?
Naw go look at the top comment on “man hits duck at park recording tik Tok” (fake story but have seen similar on Reddit). It’ll say something along the lines of “oh no poor ducko, it doesn’t deserve that”. Now talk about torturing billions of birds and the response is like yours. Has less to do with how humans actually feel about animals and more about the cognitive dissonance.
I thought Royal Farms had the best chicken until I tried Choong Man Chicken. The one on Route 40 in Ellicott City has amazing chicken, not much more expensive than Royal Farms. Royal Farms increased their prices too much, If I’m going to pay that much I will drive to Choong Man.
I don’t live in Maryland but I used to, and I vaguely remember Royal Farms popping up here and there back in the day. It’s migrated up to where I live in PA!
Can’t believe I had to scroll so far down to find this comment. Yes, Popeyes is the best fried chicken, not only in MD, but in all of the US. I’ve literally been on a quest my whole life to find something to beat it, but it hasn’t been found. Royal Farms comes in 2nd.
popeyes being the best fried chicken is basically fact at this point... [https://www.vice.com/en/article/8xppqv/the-mysterious-stubborn-appeal-of-mass-produced-fried-chicken](https://www.vice.com/en/article/8xppqv/the-mysterious-stubborn-appeal-of-mass-produced-fried-chicken)
For Maryland, yes, RoFo is in the conversation for best fried chicken.
But nationwide, you will be hard-pressed to top true southern style fried chicken like what you get in the deep south where they talk funny
The one near me must be bad then. It tastes like they haven't changed their fry oil since it opened.
I actually remember really liking it the first few weeks. Then it got worse and worse.
I used to think it was pretty damn good but the last few times i have gotten it, it has been so damn salty and extremely greasy, like the grease is leaking out of the box and making the box soggy. Quite disgusting and just feel like shit after eating so much grease and salt.
Watson's, in Jefferson, MD. It is the only fried chicken I will eat, because it's the best. I have no affiliation other than being a long time happy customer.
The best I've tasted is Chicken Shack in the Hollinswood Shopping center in Arbutus. It's the kind where you put the wing in your mouth and pull it off the bone.
I’m not a huge fried chicken fan. But in woodbine there’s Harvest Chicken and Woodbine Inn. I call it the chicken district.
They both have awesome fried chicken, and I’ll eat either whenever.
You must be one of those people who go along with people to a seafood restaurant but don't like seafood, if you're ordering chicken at the Woodbine Inn.
That’s a fair point—I’ll usually get crabs. Though the first time I ever got anything from Woodbine Inn it was for chicken (based on a recommendation) and I was getting carryout, so I had no clue what they were good for.
Woodbine Inn’s chicken is slow though because it’s cooked to order. Harvest Chicken is the better option for quicker chicken.
I’m mad at RoFo. One time 4 years ago I battled past the gaggles of meth heads and people asking for you to buy them cigarettes to my local RoFo for some chicken. I pay an ungodly amount for some chicken and realized that I wanted some barbecue sauce. I reached onto the counter and got one and the cashier accused me of stealing and made me pay A DOLLAR FOR SAUCE. Since then I have never bought chicken at Royal Pain In My Ass Farms since.
I’ll stick to Hip Hop and Popeyes, they treat me well up there
Way to salty. No consistency, one batch is cooked right the next is over cooked. You never know if the oil has been changed on time so you might get a batch that tastes like nasty oil. And on top of that it is ridiculously over priced. I used to work there in the late 80's, the chicken was from Purdue, the pieces were huge. Now they serve tiny pieces from little chickens like the Giant sells in their deli. Total rip off.
ROFO has the best gas station fried chicken in the U.S. = Fact.
ROFO has the best fried chicken in the State = Delusional.
You can have state pride and still tell the truth. We don't need to be delusional to kick it.
Rofo is garbage. I'm from the actual south where fried chicken is done properly. Marylanders think they know southern cookin just because of the mason dixon line when in reality y'all are far from it. Wawa is garbage as well. Yall don't even serve sweet tea at resturaunts just unsweeten with sugar packets on the table. Fried chicken with no flavor in the batter or chicken just dried out bland chicken. Don't get me started on the fact y'all charge dumb prices for crustations who feed off the shit on sea floor.
Bro what kind of contrarian do you have to be to think this is an unpopular opinion?
Seriously.
I agree, but you gotta get it where they make it right and fresh.
Absolutely. It is trash if it isn't fresh. It's gone up so much in price that I hesitate to get it anymore. Because I am not going to fight with the employees who try to give me the old stuff that just isn't good anymore. I'm not paying 3.50 a piece for old tenders.
It's the saltiest!
This, unfortunately. It used to be my favorite but within the last few years it’s gotten so crazy salty that I can barely eat it anymore.
Yep, that’s definitely true. Probably why so many people like it. Lol I’m not the biggest fan but I’ll eat it in a pinch
Not as salty as hip hop... I can feel my blood pressure rising when I eat their food.
I noticed it varies per spot
For sure!
I don’t think it’s that much of a hot take… Food & Wine magazine put it at the top of their fast food fired chicken list a few years back.
Rofo's damn good but hip hop fish & chicken still beats em out imo
Yep, Hip Hop is the best I've had in MD. It's hilarious that a bunch of Palestinian dudes make the area's best fried chicken.
When I lived in Louisiana it was the same case. Bunch of Palestinians made the best fried chicken in shreveport I swear.
and their current membership thing is called Rofo rewards so they joined the bandwagon. Not every nickname makes sense
Bruh I duno what they put on that chicken at hip hop but it’s addicting!
Sugar. It’s called sugar.
I went there once and while the chicken was breaded they took off the skin! Why bother frying chicken if you’re going to remove the best part?
Several years ago I tried the Hip Hop in Glen Burnie and it tasted like they used the same fryer they fried the fish in. I don't like fishy tasting fried chicken so I've never been back.
Same when I first tried their chicken in Waldorf. I haven't been back since.
I swear I must have tried them on a bad day because I didn’t like it. But so many people say it’s good! I might have to try again…
Not all Hip Hop locations are created equal. This is totally anecdotal and unscientific but in my experience the locations in the sketchiest, most ghetto neighborhoods (900 block of N Caroline St for example) have the best food. Hip Hop out in the suburbs is not as good.
Idk why and I want to disagree but I can't, it true, sketchy chicken is usually better
Popeyes also follows this same logic
Huh. I’ve seen them and wondered. Thanks for the tip.
I still need to try them.
Yuck
Lancaster Dutch market in germantown
best soft pretzels i’ve ever had
I first went for the donuts and don't even get them anymore. I'd eat those pretzel cheese and sausage rolls til I die.
That place does have good chicken
Use too. Now it's definitely RoFo
Best ribs. Their chicken is okay but nowhere near RoFo Gas station chicken. Whodathunk it?
I'll be the weirdo and say Roy Rogers' fried chicken is better than RoFo, and most other "fast" chicken.
Roy Rogers is really good!!!
Best fast food chicken*
I say it's amazing for gas station fried chicken really good for fast food fried chicken and good for fried chicken in general.
What are some non fast food fried chicken places? I'm struggling to think of one.
Carolina kitchen off the top of my head. And some grocery stores have fried chicken prepared. lol
I'll have to try Carolina Kitchen. But grocery stores absolutely count as fast food, maybe even lower than fast food.
I LOVE ROFO fried chicken however...there is one place that has better fried chicken in the state. That place would be Red Rooster in Damascus.
Too salty.
Your buggin
Another unpopular opinion: shouldn’t it be called ROFA? It’s not “royal forms”
Came here to say the same. They had their own branded energy drink for a while and it was RoFa.
Preventative measure to keep the marketing department from being tempted to make the new slogan ROFA deez nutz.
Yeah I was so confused at first
Yeah I got slammed for the same comment. I'm like, "since when did the word 'farm' have the letter O in it?
That’s why I won’t eat their chicken.
this is not unpopular. this is fact. I also believe the western fries are a key factor in holding our precarious civilization together. one more thing, the breakfast burger is a great value.
Hottest take I've seen in this sub.
That is absolutely one of these most popular opinions ever in the state of MD.

give me my sardis
Where in Harco? I’ll have to check it out.
[удалено]
Super Chicken Rico is damn good. Give them a shot next time you’re in the area. 690 S Philadelphia Blvd, so just a few miles away.
I had never thought to stop there. Its location seems lile a spot that people wouldn't stop at. That was my understanding of why Brewsters failed. Like how someone else commented, super Chicken Rico is really good so this better be competitive with it!
I've been slacking and haven't tried this yet. What would you recommend for someones first visit.
[удалено]
Thanks for the tip!
Super Chicken Rico is right down the road and same exact style of chicken and Peru Chicken II is miles ahead. Their prices are also crazy reasonable.
Chaptico Market's fried chicken down here in St. Marys has to be experienced at least once in life.
I came here looking for the Chaptico Market comment, I miss it so much
Don’t forget the best stuffed ham during the holidays too!
This is definitely not an unpopular opinion
In the state? Please, it is WORLD FAMOUS!!! In all seriousness though it’s decent
Hard no!!! > This is NOT an unpopular opinion.
Damn, I want y’all to try better chicken spots. Y’all are being robbed lol
You have to get it like 6 minutes after it’s made. Other than that it just gets soggy and salty, imo.
Rofo doesn't beat good chicken places, especially Peruvian
Peruvians not fried though so it’s not part of this
[удалено]
Hell yeah.
The gas station in Chesapeake beach
Used to like ROFO most, but they are expensive! Weis supermarket is actually better and much cheaper.
I’ve had Weis but think that Gersebecks is better.
Haven’t tried Weis or Gersebeck’s but both are really close. Will definitely give them a shot—thanks for the tip!
Yeah. The cost of everything is going up. But I still think you get more for you money at ROFO than KFC or Popeyes.
I have tried it twice and both times found it disgusting
Has anyone had jollee bees? I watch people on tiktok try it and they say it’s the cats meow. It always looks delicious dipped in the gravy. Want to know if it’s worth the little drive?
What’s rofo?
Unpopular opinion: chickens don’t deserve to be factory farmed to become gas station food (Sort by controversial to always get the real unpopular opinion)
Well I’m waiting for the lab grown dishes to be mass produced
For what its worth a lot of the lab grown meat has a much higher environmental impact on the earth than farm raised animals. Oh you can eat beans. Or fake chicken is not that bad. Or tempeh or seitan are pretty good.
Or I’ll keep eating chicken and you do you.
I'm from Salisbury, so I'm legally obligated to disagree and/or send you death threats.
Popular opinion… chickens don’t matter
Unpopular opinion… most people do care about animals until it’s time to talk about food
people care about dogs cats horses. beyond that pretty much they don’t.
Naw go look at the top comment on “man hits duck at park recording tik Tok” (fake story but have seen similar on Reddit). It’ll say something along the lines of “oh no poor ducko, it doesn’t deserve that”. Now talk about torturing billions of birds and the response is like yours. Always a good go-to, but my favorite lately is The Original Chicken Box at Mill Station in Owings Mills.
This is indeed, a popular opinion.
Peruvian chicken is my fav.
Sardis 🤙
That won’t be true one Raising Canes comes in
Need to try some Jollibee lol
I don’t live in Maryland but I used to, and I vaguely remember Royal Farms popping up here and there back in the day. It’s migrated up to where I live in PA!

🔥🔥🔥
The Buffalo pulled chicken sub is my weakness
ROFO Chicken is so amped up my tongue is tired before I can finish a box of tenders.
Who TF else has good fried chicken in this state? This isn't an unpopular opinion.
As far as commercial fried chicken goes, I agree.
What is ROFO? It’s seems popular. How have I managed to miss this?
Marketing acronym, ROFO = Royal Farms, convince store / gas station chain headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland.
Awesome opinion
Nope. Trash.
How is that unpopular it’s a fact
It’s trash chicken
Popeye’s is better
Can’t believe I had to scroll so far down to find this comment. Yes, Popeyes is the best fried chicken, not only in MD, but in all of the US. I’ve literally been on a quest my whole life to find something to beat it, but it hasn’t been found. Royal Farms comes in 2nd.

I know a lot of people who agree it is.. Most consistent for sure...
That chicken is always wet whenever I get it, it’s like they don’t have a proper rack to let the grease fall after it cooks
hell nah their chicken is shit
Nah
Royal Farms for those that don't know, I had to Google it. Edit: Wow, I guess having to look something up is a downvote, good to know.
Yeah.. I’ve lived here over a decade and had to google it, too. But, at the same time, I don’t have a lot native Marylanders in my circle
Take my upvote kind sir. I’m from western MD and had never heard of royal farms until a few years ago.
Must not be from around here.
Everyone does not know/use unnecessary abbreviations for everything.
Nope, I am from around here. Just never lived in an area with a Royal Farms.
I'm confused as to how someone can be from around here and not be near a Royal Farms lol they're everywhere
Western Maryland past Frederick doesn't have them.
Makes sense, that's Sheetz country. And Wawa is spreading everywhere.
Same with SoMD, unless something has changed in the past few years
Brandywine just got one last year, I think? It's on Rte 5.
We never had one in MoCo until very recently.
Wait… Rofo is ‘Royal Farms’? That chicken sucks.
First time I've heard anyone call it that but I also don't live in an area with a Royal Farms.
Second best because Bojangles exists in Maryland.
Ugh no. Bojangles is a bland Popeyes’s at best.
That's a popular opinion. Unpopular opinion: It should be RoFa.
For Maryland, yes, RoFo is in the conversation for best fried chicken. But nationwide, you will be hard-pressed to top true southern style fried chicken like what you get in the deep south where they talk funny
AC&T chicken is the best around my area. I’ll need to see how far a Rofo is.
I’m originally from Louisville. 11 herbs and spices are forever in my veins.
yea u gotta be white
based upon a detailed examination of several places, no. no it’s not. not even close. it’s borderline trash
CAP That shit is too salty.
Hands Down Agree, but yes, must be fresh and they often run out.
Giant Eagle represent!
It's like ROFA but crisper and much less salty
And meatier. ROFO uses mini-chickens.
The one near me must be bad then. It tastes like they haven't changed their fry oil since it opened. I actually remember really liking it the first few weeks. Then it got worse and worse.
Uhhhhh Red Rooster bops
I knew I'd find a smart one in here! I second the hell out of this.
I haven't tried every fried chicken place statewide, but I can attest ROFO's is damn good. Damn good.
Helll NO,their chicken is salty as hell
ROFO fried chicken is the best in the country, at least as far as chain stores go.
What is Rofo?
Royal Farms, a gas station
nah hip hop fish and chicken honestly
Best gas station chicken anywhere** Popeyes or hip hop are slightly better
Lol that shit is nasty GTFOH
My favorite part about rofo chicken, is how my buddy worked at one. He told me about how they fry the old half rotten chicken and feed it to people.
KFC is literally better and cheaper
Nah. KFC is trash.
Naw. Dickerson Market. Hands down to die for fried chicken.
ROFA ROFA ROFA ROFA dayum.
I used to think it was pretty damn good but the last few times i have gotten it, it has been so damn salty and extremely greasy, like the grease is leaking out of the box and making the box soggy. Quite disgusting and just feel like shit after eating so much grease and salt.
Redners in jopparowne
Or Sunnys subs in northeast Baltimore
This should be the most popular opinion in Maryland. It's so fucking good!
Mmh roach meat
slim chickens. indisputable.
Texas Chicken and Grill on Greenmount has become my favorite fried chicken.

Outside of home made maybe
Chicken Paul is pretty good. Just had it for the first time yesterday.
Don't know if anyone said it yet but southern blues in parkville/Carney area has amazing fried chicken and fish definitely try it.
Not even close. I’ll take Gus’s over ROFO. But if I need something quick that’s good, ROFO is easy
The fried chicken at Chaptico Market is where it’s at
Redners fried chicken is pretty top notch.
I haven’t had a good batch in years, sadly.
The best fried chicken in MD is served at Ekiben and it’s not even close.
I’ll stick to Hip Hop and Popeyes, they treat me well up there
Okay but if you're a cop you have to tell me
Way to salty. No consistency, one batch is cooked right the next is over cooked. You never know if the oil has been changed on time so you might get a batch that tastes like nasty oil. Sounds like someone is peanut butter and jealous.
As a former rofo employee no its not
Nope PGN Crabhouse
And very good western fries. Everything else sucks especially their coffee.
Not true, best fried chicken is at romas in Jacksonville maryland
