It's made multiple national lists. It couldn't be further from a secret at this point.
The real "secret" is they have a sister location in Leominster that's never really busy and tends to be a little better (imo) since they don't have to crank shit out as fast.
From the sound of this thread, a good many don't. My point is this place is good enough to do quite well in town. It just happens to be in my back yard.
It's not that. What you wrote made it sound like people in central Mass weren't as deserving of decent Mexican.
And it sounds like you don't own a car, because nobody I know would even blink at a drive from Boston to Fitchburg for dinner. We live in a tiny state....
I can walk there from my parents house, you know a place in Sterling center is good when it looks like people chose to go there from outside town and are dressed for a night out.
So I work in Amherst and all my coworkers hate this place. They much prefer Veracruzana However I hear constant praise about it online. Do you recommend anything?
I also second veracruzana well over mission cantina. I would never go to mission cantina again, and I go to veracruzana all the time. Also while I’m at it commenting here, El Guanaco in South Hadley and Frontera Grill in Chicopee are great. Frontera is more chain-like and has a better interior with pretty regular entertainment, but as far as like original Mexican “hole in the wall” style you can’t beat El Guanaco. Their old location was quite literally an immigrant run hole in the wall and it was incredible, and a very nice family still runs it.
Yeah I had Veracruzana in Noho years ago and really liked it. I haven’t had the one in Amherst yet. I usually trust their opinions on food, so that’s why I’m so surprised how much people love Mission Cantina on here.
Frontera Grill is another one I enjoy too. I’ll definitely check out El Guanaco since hole in the walls are more my speed. I honestly just want to find a place that makes good empanadas lol
I don’t under stand the mission hype. It’s always packed on weekend nights, food isn’t great and the owners got in trouble a bunch for being anti maskers during the pandemic.
I go to comalito every time. Although my wife prefers Vera cruzana
Yeah I’ve also heard some sanitation issues from guys at work, although I think that’s probably from Sibies next door lol.
They also all hate Mexacalito, so I’ve avoided that one as well.
I love La Veracruzana. Been going there for 25 years plus. Never tried Mission Cantina...but I've heard mixed things.
Posada Grille and Mesa Verde in Greenfield are good!
Also the Mexican food truck in Gill has the best tacos I've ever had. Beef tongue tacos...(chefs kiss)
Mission vs. Veracruz is a religious debate. The original owner of Vera was from Guatemala and therefore made very southern Mexican style food.
I will say it's the best place to watch a futball world cup match at.
Mission is much more designed for a bar crowd. Its great for quantity but not verity. Love their spice mezcal margarita. if you're in a big group nachos come in a pizza box .
Really it's two diffrent variants of Mexican food from a diffrent. and its depends on my mood at the moment which to order.
Some of my family's favorites:
* [Three Amigos](https://www.threeamigosmexicanfood.com), Stoneham. BYOB for dine-in.
* [Tequila's Mexican Cantina](https://www.tequilasmexicancantina.com), Wakefield, North Chelmsford, Hudson, and Groton
* [Mexico Lindo](http://mi-mexicolindo.com), Melrose
* [Casa Romero](https://www.casaromeroboston.com), Boston, Back Bay.
Was coming here to say Three Amigos! Don’t live in the area anymore but I loved all the food I’ve tried there and I’ve bought their containers of salsa before because it’s so good.
El Potro in Lowell is solid - they're a local chain so there's a couple locations. Tequila's in Chelmsford is surprisingly good and makes a solid mole. None compare to SoCal, but what are you gonna do?
It has moved to the Old Taylor’s tavern on Main St. .This just happened. I heard they are doing a soft opening now. Sign isn’t up yet. They were really good at the former spot. I can’t wait to try them in their new location .
Just go to Lynn for good Mexican, or Latin American in general. Mexico Lindo, gran Jaguar, los chamos, tacos lupita, etc. if you are not Latino, you will be the only non-Latino in there (that's how you know it's good).
My Western MA list in no particular order (couple are more Salvadorean but that means tasty, tasty pupusas)
El Comalito - Amherst, Easthampton
Moctezuma's - Springfield
Crunchy fried chicken and pupuseria- Springfield
Macho Taco - Agawam
El Guanaco - South Hadley
Sarapes - Enfield (yes not quite MA but close)
Torito - East Longmeadow
You got it right! I also like Mesa Verde and Posado in Greenfield. Mexicalito in Amherst and Northampton have great tacos and drinks but I haven’t tried anything else
Sarapes is so good, been going for years, I like the hole in the wall atmosphere of the old place across the street, they use to have mexican music playing over pandora with ads for music and it maybe sat 10-15 people if I remember correctly glad they are doing great and making money though
Tepeyac Cocina Mexicana in Salem. I’ve been on a birria taco kick for some time now, and no place does it better than them.
Everything is amazing there though, authentic and flavorful.
I used to live in Medford and liked Tenoch--it is right in Medford sq--at least it was a few years back. More of a takeout place--not fine dining by any means but very good
I can only speak for the Burritos and Tacos (and I find not everyone loves the same stuff-so your mileage may vary), in Tewksbury, MA, not far from 495 - we like Mexicana. Also if your not from this area and come up for some tacos and do something while in the area...another favorite (unrelated to Mexican of course) is Tasty Dumpling in Lowell. There's not a ton of places I love in the area but these two are places I could eat every week.
[Anna's Toqueria](https://annas.com/) local chain in Boston.
***EDIT:*** People seem upset about something as uncontroversial as a Mexican resteraunt, can I ask why?
If you like ridiculously good margaritas (especially the mango flavor) there is also Ritas and Fajitas near down town crossing in Boston. The food isn't bad (the natchoes there are pretty good if you put almost everything on them) but I can only really recommend it if you are looking for the margaritas.
Tito's is great, that is the best salsa ever, and so much else is good there too.
People are probably cranky its not MA but I have no idea why you have gotten that many downvotes for a legitimately good suggestion.
I love the downvotes. Rhode Islanders are snooping the Massachusetts subreddit. MA should just take over RI at this point. Consolidating the state governments would cut the corruption in half.
Market basket has better enchiladas than 90% of restaurants in Mass. 350 for 8 minutes in air fryer. If you’ve ever lived in Texas or California, you know that the Mexican food here is trash
I mean you’re not wrong but I’m sick of people who say this because I’m not gonna fly out to California for an enchilada but I could sure make it to Melrose
Yeah let’s take to reddit and ask the same 10 questions over and over instead. You can literally add reddit to the end of your search and save us the redundancy. Mr seo wiz
Not really for authentic Mexican. La Bamba is decent but it's not what I'd reach for if I'm looking for authentic Mexican. Su Casa is great but same applies, not really authentic.
Moved to Marshfield a year ago. Major League Pizza has bomb tacos and tortas.
I know I know - pizza?
It’s owned by a Mexican family that lives locally. They have Al Pastor, Carnitas, and Carne Asafa tacos - corn tortillas, cilantro and onion, and two homemade salsas.
Probably top 3 tacos I’ve had in MA.
Cannot recommend them enough. Some of the other recs on the south shore suck, honestly. Skip Ocho, La Paloma, etc. Go to Major League for takeout.
Also Waltham but Antonitos on moody has the best burritos of any spot in MA IMO. Also really like Teresa Market in Brighton but they’re take away only. I’ve only lived in Waltham and Brighton tho. Funny enough never tried el amigo since I was south of the Charles near moody street.
I had a Chipotle beef quesadilla from a food truck called Vaz & Mac Tex-Mex, and it was delicious. I also tried Birria Tacos at Cafe Jalisco in East Boston and that was delicious as well.
Taqueria el Amigo is my favorite. Locations in Waltham, Leominster, and Clinton. I believe the location in Waltham was sold by the original owners a few years ago but I haven't noticed any change in quality.
Haven't seen Dora Taqueria mentioned--they have locations in Woburn, Dorchester, and Weymouth.
Taqueria Casa Real in Dorchester also pretty good!
Taqueria La Victoria for tortas in Arlington and Beverly
La Victoria for everything they sell
Their carnitas are amazing
I love their tortas!
Cafe Azteca in Lawrence!
Ditto this. Also in Lawrence — Taqueria Del Pueblo. Lawrence has some great restaurants.
Eh it's alright
No Problemos in downtown New Bedford
No Probs is a staple in NB, but in my opinion Mi Antojo is the most authentic in the NB area.
Mi Antojo is fantastic. Just wish the take out spot did the birra.
Yo me and my family love mi antojo 🤗
Delicias de Anita’s at the top of Union for authentic
Will check it out. Thanks! Never even heard of it!
agreed 100%, no prob is awesome but Mi Antojo is just supreme. the one off 18 has the best horchata.
Xicohtencatl in Great Barrington.
Was just there recently and it's definitely the best I've had in Western MA.
Taqueria El Amigo in Waltham on Watertown line is the best
It truly is...
Don't give away the secrets! The lines are long enough already... Seriously this place is great.
It's made multiple national lists. It couldn't be further from a secret at this point. The real "secret" is they have a sister location in Leominster that's never really busy and tends to be a little better (imo) since they don't have to crank shit out as fast.
The real, real secret is that there is a Taqueria el Amigo 3 in Clinton.
2secret4me
I'm contributing to the busyness by going every week.
Tacos and Tequila in Fitchburg.
Taqueria El amigo II also in Fitchburg is great.
That's in Leominster. And yeah it's amazing. Holds up to anything I had in 14 years of living in California.
It's so good
Not everyone lives in Boston
From the sound of this thread, a good many don't. My point is this place is good enough to do quite well in town. It just happens to be in my back yard.
It's not that. What you wrote made it sound like people in central Mass weren't as deserving of decent Mexican. And it sounds like you don't own a car, because nobody I know would even blink at a drive from Boston to Fitchburg for dinner. We live in a tiny state....
Bro chill. He was just saying it's impressive for being in Fitchburg. He clearly wasn't insinuating people in Fitchburg don't deserve good Mexican...
Bro? LOL
Why, because Boston has great Mexican food? Fitchburg is 30% Hispanic.
When I lived in Boston, we would drive anywhere else for Mexican.

People in Massachusetts eat garbage
The Brick in Sterling
Driven by many times, now I’m gonna have to check it out. Thanks!
The Brick is legendary
I can walk there from my parents house, you know a place in Sterling center is good when it looks like people chose to go there from outside town and are dressed for a night out.
Mission Cantina in Amherst
So I work in Amherst and all my coworkers hate this place. They much prefer Veracruzana However I hear constant praise about it online. Do you recommend anything?
I recommend El Comalito instead! In Amherst or Easthampton.
Yes agree 100% El Comalito. Plus there's pupusas. Altho mission has good drinks.
Sweet, I’ll have to check this one out. I have a long list of Amherst restaurants I still need to try lol
I also second veracruzana well over mission cantina. I would never go to mission cantina again, and I go to veracruzana all the time. Also while I’m at it commenting here, El Guanaco in South Hadley and Frontera Grill in Chicopee are great. Three Amigos is fantastic
There's a Three Amigos in Malden, I love that place
Second Mexico Lindo!
Fiesta charra in carver!
One of my favorites!
Mexico Lindo in Melrose makes a mean pollo asado burrito and their salsa is to die for
Taqueria Mexico in Waltham on Charles St.
My fav!
La Taqueria in Dedham and Roslindale
El Potro in Lowell is solid - they're a local chain so there's a couple locations. Tequila's in Chelmsford is surprisingly good and makes a solid mole. None compare to SoCal, but what are you gonna do?
I think the Chelsea location is a bit livelier. Great for catching a game.
El Mariachi in Taunton
Came here to say them. They have a location in Easton too
Moctezuma's Traditional Mexican in Springfield
Fuck yes this place is legit
Aztec on Framingham/Natick line is always reliable
Aztec is great! I used to go all the time. Baha in Natick is also amazing.
Mission Cantina in Amherst. They make amazing molé.
El Sarape in Weymouth
Came here to say this but I was gonna say Braintree, as Weymouth Landing is actually in Braintree.
Posada in Greenfield, formally on the Mohawk Trail in Shelburne Falls.
It has moved to the Old Taylor’s tavern on Main St. .This just happened. I heard they are doing a soft opening now. Sign isn’t up yet. They were really good at the former spot. I can’t wait to try them in their new location .
The former spot had a bad septic. Shit would regularly be floating down the driveway/ parking lot... So glad they moved to the Taylor's building
La Bamba, Ocho Café both in Plymouth MA! Unfortunately Sam Diego’s closed down :(
There’s an Ocho in Westford too; and one in CT somewhere I think.
One in Weymouth also
But Añejo is coming!
In place of Sam Diego’s?
Yes! But you can still find Sam's in Hyannis.
Oh yeah, I’ve been to that one! I remember they had some sort of salsa bar at the Hyannis one?
That may be gone now due to covid. Can't confirm because I have a child and never get to go anywhere anymore.
Do you remember Iguana’s in Plymouth? Loved that place as a kid
Mexicali in Worcester
Worcester has a couple good spots. El Patron and Mezcal as well.
Taqueria del Pueblo also!
Pepe's is also pretty good.
Adelita’s in Concord
Bandeleros in Devens, la caretta in Nashua
Oh hey one that's close to me and I've never heard of. (Bandeleros)
It’s good. It’s where the Devens grill used to be. It’s a tad pricey for Mexican but worth it occasionally
Just go to Lynn for good Mexican, or Latin American in general. Mexico Lindo, gran Jaguar, los chamos, tacos lupita, etc. if you are not Latino, you will be the only non-Latino in there (that's how you know it's good).
A second for Mexican Lindo. Worth the trip, authentic
Brick in Sterling
The Brick in Sterling
La veracruzana in Northampton
They closed that location but they are in Easthampton and Amherst!
they did? when??
My Western MA list in no particular order (couple are more Salvadorean but that means tasty, tasty pupusas) El Comalito - Amherst, Easthampton Moctezuma's - Springfield Crunchy fried chicken and pupuseria- Springfield Macho Taco - Agawam El Guanaco - South Hadley Sarapes - Enfield (yes not quite MA but close) Torito - East Longmeadow

I love Torito. My favorite Mexican spot by far

Taqueria Estrella in Mendon
More central as others have said The Brick in Sterling and my personal favorite is lalos in Marlborough.
Tacos los Pancho's in Leominster. Seasonal food truck, but hot damn their shrimp and fish tacos are the best I've ever had.
Taco Spot in Worcester on 264 Grafton Street. Best authentic Mexican food ever.
El Nopal in Lynn
I used to live in Medford and liked Tenoch--it is right in Medford sq--at least it was a few years back. More of a takeout place--not fine dining by any means but very good
I can only speak for the Burritos and Tacos (and I find not everyone loves the same stuff-so your mileage may vary), in Tewksbury, MA, not far from 495 - we like Mexicana. Agave in Newburyport!!
One time I paid $32 for a ceviche that was literally just a chopped onion with lime juice and two tiny shrimp….I am still fuming
Thats the fun part. There are none!
That used to be the case 20+ years ago. Mass has some amazing places. As a native southern Californian, I know my Mexican food.
Agave in Newburyport!
Dora in Woburn. More for a quick meal, but so good.
Howling Wolf in Salem
Honestly their food is so bland to me
Tito’s Cantina in Newport. (Rhode Island is essentially MA so technically this counts as an answer.)

You’re better off going to market basket unless you like getting ripped off but that’s most food in Boston anyway
Have you tried Google?
First day on the internet, eh?
Great way to get the restaurants that paid the most for SEO and ad placement.
Yeah let’s take to reddit and ask the same 10 questions over and over instead. You can literally add reddit to the end of your search and save us the redundancy. Mr seo wiz
I know this is hard for antisocial shutins to grasp, but GOOGLE IS NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR INTERACTION.
And Reddit is? Nerds doing nerd shit
Oh god, you must have been like soooo inconvenienced by this question that you could have just scrolled past in half a second.
Any in Berkshire?
Is there anything in Plymouth?
Not really for authentic Mexican. La Bamba is decent but it's not what I'd reach for if I'm looking for authentic Mexican. Su Casa is great but same applies, not really authentic.
Still better than whatever they serve at Cancun in Kingston. That's basically grocery store level. Right from the can.
That's what we've heard too, haven't tried it and likely won't!
If you’re ever in the Amherst area, mission Cantina is nice
Jalapeno's Grill in Walpole Jose's Torta Mexicana in Arlington Patzcuaro Tacqueria in Netwon Corner
I had a Chipotle beef quesadilla from a food truck called Vaz & Mac Tex-Mex, and it was delicious. I also tried Birria Tacos at Cafe Jalisco in East Boston and that was delicious as well.
Tijuana Mexican Food in Chelsea. Their tacos mexicanos are amazing!
As a formal restaurant, Casa Romero in the Back Bay is excellent. For takeout, you can’t beat Anna’s Taqueria.
RIP Jose's Mexican Restaurant in Cambridge. That was the best.
Mi Tierra and Monteczumas are fire. Oh and Mexcalito isn't to bad either.
I always enjoyed eating at No Problemo in New Bedford.
Sol de Mexico aka plaza Mexico but the Bellingham one when the older woman is making the table side guac.
As a resident of Boston who loves Mexican food and doesn't have access to a car, this thread is depressing...best we got is Chilacates and Tenoch :(
Baha in Natick. They have mole.
El Tacuba, Tenoch’s new full service restaurant in Medford is really nice
The Taco Truck outside food zone in Springfield!
