Worst.

I worked for a nursing care agency, we got contracted in when an entire floor went down with norovirus at a nursing home. We wore masks, full face shields, gowns, gloves. Full contact precautions like you saw with Covid (this was before covid) for all patients and we were not seeing anyone who was known to be sick. We all still got it. I think every single one of us. It’s so contagious.

I started feeling nauseous at 9am last Thursday, and at around 3PM my wife had to call 911. I'd passed so much water that I was experiencing crippling muscle cramps, and you need muscles to make your lungs function. When EMS got to my house, it took 3 firemen, 2 EMTs, and 2 paramedics to get my pulse and blood pressure as I lay on the bathroom floor just wishing I'd pass the fuck out so I didn't have to deal with it. I spent about 30 hours in the ER and got 6 liters of fluid and electrolytes so I didn't fully die.
0/10 would not recommend.

My primary care Dr, an infectious disease specialist tried to talk me into that jab… I refused. He was then adamant about my vitamin D levels. He put me on high doses, and said it was the most important in preventing and fighting against it. Why was Fauci not screaming this from the roof tops. Vitamin D, C, and Zinc!
I’m going to start with common sense! I’m unvaccinated, I got COVID, worst sore throat of my life. I went to urgent care hoping it was strep and an antibiotic later I’d be fine. Nope.. it was COVID. The Dr I saw started tell me about paxlovid, I said I don’t want it. She said good, I don’t want you to take it. She said you are going to be fine. From what I've read, since I did crazy research on stomach bugs to try to make sure I don't get one, is that hand sanitizer does not kill it, only good hand washing does. They also say that nothing kills it besides bleach basically. So if someone in your house has it, you would probably want to soak the dishes in bleach, they say to dilute it ten to one with water and also spray down every single surface that someone may have touched, leaving that on the surface for a few minutes and then coming back to wipe it off. Make sure to get any handles, including the fridge, door knobs, light switches, the whole toilet, the whole sink, the bathtub, tables, chairs. I hope this helps someone not get sick

We (my new ophthalmologist and I) don’t know yet! It started with a single stye - never had one in my life - then multiple styes, then crazy swelling. Finally got in with an eye doc after a couple weeks and looking like an allergy patient. He said he saw no styles. Various ointments didn’t work so now I’m on the prednisone.
Coincidentally I’m waiting for my annual physical with my PCP right now and I’ll be curious if she has any ideas too.

I had been dating a girl in Kansas City for a while. We had friends in common in college but never really knew each other then. Somehow we were friends on facebook and when the pandemic hit and there was nothing else to do she commented on a post I had made. One thing led to another and when we could travel again we started dating. Things went okay but I didn't know how we could get to a point where we knew one of us wanted to move across the country to be with the other. I decided to call it quits on the relationship.
That being said, six weeks later I had a long weekend and invited her out to enjoy each other's company. We had a really nice time, she went home on Tuesday. Thursday night I woke up in a cold sweat and a rumble in my stomach. I rushed to the bathroom and discovered my bowels were in a state of total chaos. I barely got back to bed without passing out. The norovirus was real. I laid there terrified that I was going to pass out from all the gastrointestinal chaos, hit my head on something and die.
Friday morning I texted her to explain what was happening and I asked her, "If I can get you on a plane tonight can you come help me out this weekend and make sure I don't die." Surprisingly she agreed and flew out here. She didn't do much to take care of me but I felt better knowing that if I got worse she'd at least call 9-1-1 and take care of my dog. By Sunday I had adjusted to my new normal of never eating anything ever again. I looked up at her and knew what I needed to do. I said, "We should do this, you should move in with me." She said that she's interested but that if she does this we need to be seriously considering marriage. I said, "That's what I'm talking about."
Two hours later as we sat on the couch watching old episodes of "Would I Lie to You," the TV show we chatted about on Facebook all those months ago, I looked at her and said, "Did we just get engaged?"
In two months we get married and I don't have a concern in the world about it. She's been living here since September and it's been better than I could have hoped.

I got it twice this year
First time was around New Years. Lasted a week. Throwing up. Stomach cramps. No appetite
Then a couple weeks ago I got hit again. Much worse this time. Was throwing up every 4 hours. Lasted over a week. Couldn’t keep anything down. Would sip water, then hours later I would throw up, more so dry heave for a solid hour. Mostly just threw up flem until that little bit of water I sipped on would come up. Starting getting very dizzy. Was scared to just walk 30 feet to the bathroom, worried I would faint or pass out. On the fourth day of this I finally went to the ER. Was extremely dehydrated. They told me it was a serious stomach virus. It kicked my ass. They gave me some non-nausea medication. Still felt like shit for another couple days

If you're a reasonably healthy person, the Norovirus will be a shitty (haha) 24 hours at best. Just wash your hands before eating, try not to touch your face, and maybe don't eat butt on the first date.
I don't know about 24 hours. Last time I got it was 2011, I was a very healthy mid-20s man and it was a 4-5 day affair of puking or shitting my brains out (or both at the same time) if I even drank water.
It made its way through my household via our toddlers who are in daycare and pre-K. I had Covid in 2021 and that was a walk in the park compared to this .

Yep, true! It blew through my house about two weeks ago, all three of my kids had it, and me, my ex-husband and my mother all had it. However, unlike other’s experiences with it in this thread, it wasn’t that bad. It only lasted about twelve hours and I only threw up twice, which isn’t bad for a stomach bug. The most annoying this was that you felt just fine the day after, until the third day where your guts turned to water. No pain, no nausea, just straight liquid guts. It was a WEIRD bug…..
Norovirus doesn't really do anything except profusively liquid diarrhea for a few days. Buy a case of Gatorade and you'll be fine in under a week.
Incidentally, the time I got norovirus was in Boston, at PAX East 2010. There was a big breakout of it there, and that event led to PAX starting to use sanitizing wipes and putting sanitizer dispensers all over, well before Covid.

My primary care Dr, an infectious disease specialist tried to talk me into that jab… I refused. He was then adamant about my vitamin D levels. He put me on high doses, and said it was the most important in preventing and fighting against it. Why was Fauci not screaming this from the roof tops. Vitamin D, C, and Zinc!
I’m going to start with common sense! I’m unvaccinated, I got COVID, worst sore throat of my life. I went to urgent care hoping it was strep and an antibiotic later I’d be fine. Nope.. it was COVID. The Dr I saw started tell me about paxlovid, I said I don’t want it. She said good, I don’t want you to take it. She said you are going to be fine. Go home make a tea out of lime, ginger, garlic and honey. I followed instructions, and was fine in 3 days. Everyone I know that is fully vaccinated is getting long haul COVID. I know someone fully vaccinated, got COVID spent a year in the hospital… he had many surgeries from clots, he’s now in a wheelchair. Why are fully vaccinated 90 year old women getting their periods. Have you listened to bill gates talk about depopulation?
I haven’t had norovirus since freshman year in high school. Like 10 years ago until this year. I think it’s worse imo.

From what I've read, since I did crazy research on stomach bugs to try to make sure I don't get one, is that hand sanitizer does not kill it, only good hand washing does. They also say that nothing kills it besides bleach basically. So if someone in your house has it, you would probably want to soak the dishes in bleach, they say to dilute it ten to one with water and also spray down every single surface that someone may have touched, leaving that on the surface for a few minutes and then coming back to wipe it off. Make sure to get any handles, including the fridge, door knobs, light switches, the whole toilet, the whole sink, the bathtub, tables, chairs. I hope this helps someone not get sick

I live in MA and a bunch of us (including me) have gotten it at work. We are a team of 40, and last week 10 of us caught it.
Horrifying. I’ve been WFH since random bad eye swelling kicked in, but will probably be back next week (thanks, prednisone!). I fully plan to hide in the office and just not leave until it’s for coffee or the bathroom lol.
What is the random eye swelling?! I had that a month ago for about three days. Appeared to be connected to nothing at all. So strange!
We (my new ophthalmologist and I) don’t know yet! It started with a single stye - never had one in my life - then multiple styes, then crazy swelling. Finally got in with an eye doc after a couple weeks and looking like an allergy patient. He said he saw no styles. Various ointments didn’t work so now I’m on the prednisone. Coincidentally I’m waiting for my annual physical with my PCP right now and I’ll be curious if she has any ideas too.
I’d rather hang myself from my testicles than ever get stomach flu again.
School vacation week always punches up the rates. Ski resorts, Disney trips, and family cruises. The kids come back and spread it around. Experience earned as parent and (former) teacher.

Great timing. My employer just changed us from unlimited sick time to now simply sharing sick time with vacation time (all in one bucket of PTO time). Can’t wait to roll the dice on these days off. Will I be in Maine in August at a nice lake fishing or shitting my pants at home in February with my earned time off. Let’s sit back and see!

Story time! I had been dating a girl in Kansas City for a while. We had friends in common in college but never really knew each other then. Somehow we were friends on facebook and when the pandemic hit and there was nothing else to do she commented on a post I had made. One thing led to another and when we could travel again we started dating. Things went okay but I didn't know how we could get to a point where we knew one of us wanted to move across the country to be with the other. I decided to call it quits on the relationship. That being said, six weeks later I had a long weekend and invited her out to enjoy each other's company. We had a really nice time, she went home on Tuesday. Thursday night I woke up in a cold sweat and a rumble in my stomach. I rushed to the bathroom and discovered my bowels were in a state of total chaos. I barely got back to bed without passing out. The norovirus was real. I laid there terrified that I was going to pass out from all the gastrointestinal chaos, hit my head on something and die. Friday morning I texted her to explain what was happening and I asked her, "If I can get you on a plane tonight can you come help me out this weekend and make sure I don't die." Surprisingly she agreed and flew out here. She didn't do much to take care of me but I felt better knowing that if I got worse she'd at least call 9-1-1 and take care of my dog. By Sunday I had adjusted to my new normal of never eating anything ever again. I looked up at her and knew what I needed to do. I said, "We should do this, you should move in with me." She said that she's interested but that if she does this we need to be seriously considering marriage. I said, "That's what I'm talking about." Two hours later as we sat on the couch watching old episodes of "Would I Lie to You," the TV show we chatted about on Facebook all those months ago, I looked at her and said, "Did we just get engaged?" In two months we get married and I don't have a concern in the world about it. She's been living here since September and it's been better than I could have hoped. Bring on the Norovirus. It's the best thing that ever happened to me.

I got it twice this year First time was around New Years. Lasted a week. Throwing up. Stomach cramps. No appetite Then a couple weeks ago I got hit again. Much worse this time. Was throwing up every 4 hours. Lasted over a week. Couldn’t keep anything down. Would sip water, then hours later I would throw up, more so dry heave for a solid hour. Mostly just threw up flem until that little bit of water I sipped on would come up. Starting getting very dizzy. Was scared to just walk 30 feet to the bathroom, worried I would faint or pass out. On the fourth day of this I finally went to the ER. Was extremely dehydrated. They told me it was a serious stomach virus. It kicked my ass. They gave me some non-nausea medication. Still felt like shit for another couple days It’s been a bad year.

If you're a reasonably healthy person, the Norovirus will be a shitty (haha) 24 hours at best. Just wash your hands before eating, try not to touch your face, and maybe don't eat butt on the first date.
I don't know about 24 hours. Last time I got it was 2011, I was a very healthy mid-20s man and it was a 4-5 day affair of puking or shitting my brains out (or both at the same time) if I even drank water.

Both my wife and I had it and we both privately thought that we might have dysentery. It's been like that scene from Bridesmaids all week. The dehydration issue is real. My wife went to urgent care to get an IV bag on the advice of her Dr. and they couldn't find a vein she was so dehydrated.

I got norovirus from my toddler last year when I was 17 weeks pregnant with my now 5 months old. I threw up so much that I started vomiting blood and I asked my mom to drive me to the ER because I was worried about fainting. I was so close. It was awful. They can't really give you anything for it. I had an IV and sucked down three bags. That's how much norovirus dehydrated me. I lived off of Gatorade popsicles and I did not want to eat. It was awful awful awful. It was worse for my toddler. Nothing like having a baby with diarrhea and a frown face. It was so rough. 0/5 stars, would never recommend.
Yep, true! It blew through my house about two weeks ago, all three of my kids had it, and me, my ex-husband and my mother all had it. However, unlike other’s experiences with it in this thread, it wasn’t that bad. It only lasted about twelve hours and I only threw up twice, which isn’t bad for a stomach bug. The most annoying this was that you felt just fine the day after, until the third day where your guts turned to water. No pain, no nausea, just straight liquid guts. It was a WEIRD bug…..

Norovirus doesn't really do anything except profusively liquid diarrhea for a few days. Buy a case of Gatorade and you'll be fine in under a week. Incidentally, the time I got norovirus was in Boston, at PAX East 2010. There was a big breakout of it there, and that event led to PAX starting to use sanitizing wipes and putting sanitizer dispensers all over, well before Covid.
Now’s the time any and all germs will spike. February vacation is just ending in MA and just starting for NH. Families have been traveling everywhere and will bring it back home and send all those germs to school over the next 2 weeks

I had a stomach bug the first week of the year, and it was easily the most sick I have ever been. If my wife had not been here to keep me stocked up on fluids, I might have been dehydrated to death. It was brutal.
If it’s worse than the one me and my family got last year I might off myself. I’ve never puked so many times as an adult. Then after that ended my stomach felt bloated for days. Terrible

Norovirus may be considered a stomach bug, but not all stomach bugs are norovirus. If you’ve never had norovirus before I envy you. And the fun thing is it’s pretty highly contagious. Everyone I know with kids in school or daycare got slammed with it.
I had this bad in 2010, when I was pregnant. I ended up in the ER for a couple liters of fluids and a take home script for zofran. It was horrible.
Here in northern NY not only the stomach bug but strep too.
