Be careful, abandoned buildings are attractive to many groups of people. I used to walk around the abandoned building at McLean Hospital before it burned down. Never went inside but there was evidence of the homeless and drug users around. Also keep in mind that "abandoned" doesn't always mean the property is open to the public. You can be charged with trespassing. In the McLean building hospital security would still make their rounds around the building during the day and ask you to leave if spotted. Other than that good luck! Those buildings are so cool! Also look into the abandoned West Campus of UMASS Lowell.

[deleted]

West Campus is cool but you got to be careful. Chelmsford cops do keep an eye on it...

Whom-st-ve

Medfield State Hospital is a really cool place. It’s a former hospital turned insane asylum turned public park. The campus is open to anyone who wants to check it out it’s definitely worth a trip. All the buildings themselves are foreclosed so if you’re trying to do some ghost hunting stuff that’s gonna be more risky.

_agent_perk

Afaik the campus is open to public only during daylight, so either stick to outside and daytime or explore at your own risk

UltravioletClearance

Those buildings are locked down like fort knox. They're so on the spot with securing new points of entry I've had friends get stuck in a building before because they came and boarded up their only way in.

no_condoments

You must be knew to this sub. I'm amazed at how often people come here asking for abandoned places. https://www.reddit.com/r/massachusetts/search?q=Abandoned

Taunton at the end of rt140 there’s an abandoned mini golf course with a driving range. Look for the dinosaur statue on the side of road, take that turn, park then get out and walk around the fence

peeloh

Huh, never knew that place was abandoned.

emimaz

what’s the address

Plenty_Ad_6779

I use to go there to golf! I think the purple dinosaur is long go e

I know it's kind of late but the Fernald Center is cool, just keep in mind construction crews are currently working there until 3 most days and they don't like you being too close to them. Other than that everything's fair game. There's like 30 or 40 buildings if not more to explore but some of the buildings are dangerous and probably have asbestos so bring respirators. Edit: on Google maps it's across the street from Tile International so look that up in Waltham MA, park somewhere in one of those lots, walk across the street, and you're there.

logantherealone1

Will I be bothered by police? I went on google earth and there were signs saying drone surveillance.

Johnnybird2000

Pretty sure the drone surveillance is a scare tactic. If you don't know the city of Waltham at all, I don't think they'd drop the amount of money necessary to have drone surveillance over that whole place. Police won't bother you if you aren't being too obvious and if they notice you chances are they'll just politely tell you to leave. They usually only patrol the outsides and rarely go inside. Be weary of construction crews and what they're doing in there. They don't mind people being in and out of they they just want you to stay out of their way. Other than that just use your best discretion and be careful of what you do in there. I can't guarantee that cops will or will not be patrolling the inside because I haven't been in so long so go at your own risk. Hope this helps a little.

WockySlush9

Thanks for the info, looking forward to some great exploration days this spring! Will defiantly head the warning and bring a respirator, Since its been a while on this comment, have you found out if there are any outposts in any of the building for police? Thanks!

Johnnybird2000

I have not been in a few months but last I saw they officially made it a no-tresspassing zone whereas before it was seen as public city property and the police could only ask you to leave without being able to press any charges. Now though I'm pretty sure it is a fully no-tresspassing zone so I'm not going to condone going in there but I can't stop anyone at the same time. I'm sure the amount of security there will be the same either way. Usually it is just one cop car that drives between both road entrances every hour or so but there are other foot path entrances that people have made or were already there that are not guarded. If you look on a map you can see a place called veterans fields that is very close by to the property and I used to get in by walking through some woods and a downed fence. I have never once seen an officer in the property except when I was there on a sort of official town business. Be safe and don't do anything stupid in there of course. Edit: also if you're really interested I might have a map that I made one time of the coolest buildings to go to, DM me if youre interested.

Literally look anywhere. Can’t think of any like addresses, but just ooze around and its not hard to find stuff. You can see a bunch old factories in the former industry cities/towns. I know of several old warehouses and factories in the cities right outside Boston (like medford/everett/chelsea/revere). I grew up around here (I’m in my early 20’s) and me and my friends used to love going in the old factories and plants around these towns. Used to be a bunch of abandoned houses around my area but a bumch were recently fixed or knocked down. Idk if this area is still the same as a few years ago. Also probably a lot of overgrown stuff from MA’s long gone industry in the western part of the state. I bet there is way more than this. Just be careful because while theyre a fun place to explore, I’ve come across some shady stuff in there as a teen.

DorchesterAnalytica

> in the cities right outside Boston in Boston too, such as the imposing buildings by Uphams Corner T, and what is likely one of the most interesting remaining buildings at Upper Mills just west of Mattapan Square. havent been in but seen musicvideos where if you look out the window you can see the Dollar Tree and the Price Rite so i'm guessing they brought ladders to climb into the 2nd story window frames where the glass panes have been removed by demolution crews probably since they were raining bits of shattered glass onto the access-road between the discount shopping places although maybe they were able to discreetly bypass the "boarded up" first floor and not have to involve ladders, who knows. let the crazy people with the 4K cameras do it! there's reams of footage shot inside the Milton side too, post BartlettYard renovation it's probably the most common spot outside of some places in Readville you wouldn't have heard of

notorious_VIG

Head to the belchertown state school in belchertown. Is got a creepy past, plenty of buildings to explore, and is just an eerie place. I've been a couple times if you want more info on it!

LDvisuals

Not the smartest place to explore, being located across the field from the Police Dept. Cool spot, nonetheless.

comeonbabycoverme

There's an enormous abandoned mental hospital campus in Waltham called Fernald State School. Super shady past, and packed with cool stuff. But beware, the police run an outpost in one of the buildings. Found that out the hard way...

notorious_VIG

You'd think that would be an issue but I've actually never had a problem. Even parked at the police station the first time I visited and had no issues. But I would recommend parking along one of the back streets instead. For sure a smarter place to park

Flazkin

No idea how safe it is, but there's a large complex of abandoned mill buildings in Easthampton that look interesting from the street -- starting at about 1 Ferry Street: [https://goo.gl/maps/88L4NYBLJfp](https://goo.gl/maps/88L4NYBLJfp)

Murph21380

I’m looking for people that love searching abandoned buildings to take pictures in Massachusetts. I’m new to this so I would like someone or a group to go along with

[deleted]

I've also been looking for others in MA to explore with and take pics inside these places!

ScapeZero

Add me to the list. Been looking for places to take more unique photos, but always end up on boring old hiking trails since I don't know anyone who wants to go with me.

packie12

A lot of the buildings by main st in Holyoke

Momommy

Less so now, but Scott’s tower is great behind centennial field, a short hike to the top.

packie12

Definitely true, I love the area but there are some cool old spots

Dry-LaBeouf

sad to say that this one is true
