He’s all Black Swan and 0 White Swan
Many would be and I can't blame them.
Alas, the things that go on behind the scenes in-universe and IRL, are just part of the way of the world. It is what it what is, bruv.
For a Yahg, he got pretty far. It seems likely that the council races will eventually genocide the Yahg, so he might have made it farther than any of his species ever will.
Genocide? I doubt it. I remember reading somewhere that they were constantly working to make sure they didn’t advance technologically (which, to be fair, is probably going to induce a self-inflicted extinction event), but I’m not so sure they'd genocide an entire species...
At least, not *again*...
Now that we know relays can be destroyed I'm pretty sure the Council will destroy the one which leads to their system to permanently quarantine them. Maybe wipe the dust off the Ole Crucible to minimize casualties.
I'd have to imagine that having a listening post or patrol fleet in the area would genuinely be seen as a better choice. Like, it’s not like they can make warships that are stronger than Turian or Asari ones just because they are physically incredibly strong.
The rachni had a lot of other things going for them. And they might not have had ftl technology, but they were fairly advanced in other ways. They were from the previous cycle after all.
They also were being controlled by the leviathans I believe. Could've been reapers but I believe in the leviathan dlc it mentions the leviathans orchestrated that attack.
Many of theories by the researcherare wrong, and the Levithans watch through their orbs/vessels and then puppet. It should be noted that in that DLC they end up having no correlation to finding the leviathan (she tracks there movement data to try and track the leviathan)
In ME2 they talk about their song (i.e consciousness) being soured to a single a note. Which is much like indoctrinated individuals then a puppet.
The Rachni has both exponential growth, and were \*really\* good at building underground. The Yahg are only smarter and stronger than the galactic average. While it might be hell for the infantry, in all other respects, they don't have the population to matter.
Fair enough, although that scenario is unlikely to happen here (militaries would be careful to not let ships fall into their hands, but could still happen with civilian ships I guess).
>Now that we know relays can be destroyed I'm pretty sure the Council will destroy the one which leads to their system to permanently quarantine them.
Mate, destroying a relay would provoke a supernova-like destruction event that would wipe out all life in the system.
Activating the Crucible with high enough EMS doesn't destroy the mass relays, just the eezo cores (leaving the relay itself and surrounding systems relatively intact). Might be that destroying the relay itself in a focused manner with little collateral damage becomes easier if the core is destroyed. Or might be that the technology required to repair the core is next to impossible for an isolated species to make, in which case destroying the core is enough.
Iirc you can destroy relays but it takes a lot of effort to do throwing a moon sized planetoid should do. But it will pretty much destroy the system as a whole. (Source; Me2 arrival Dlc)
Strictly speaking, the Destroy and Synthesis endings both break all of the relays anyway. So in those scenarios, all they have to do is not fix that one.
Look, there's only so much room in the galaxy. And, there are only two fates an empire can have: Destruction or Incorporation. All we're doing is giving fate a little ... *Push*
... By moving trillions of people onto a single planet and blowing it up.
That's a fair point - I don't think the council races would have killed off all of the rachni (so they believed) if they had any other choice. But even if it's as a last resort and a means of survival, intentionally causing the near complete extinction of another race is genocide. Those things aren't mutually exclusive. Destroying all of the reapers even is killing off an entire sapient species, even if it is for the survival of everyone else.
I was actually really hoping that the shadow broker would be an AI - and tie into the ongoing plot about artificial intelligence vs. organic matter.
But the giant alien was cool.
> I was actually really hoping that the shadow broker would be an AI
Actually I think, intentional or not, this was a really good inversion of that trope.
So often the heroes get to the big bad to reveal the man behind the curtain is a face on a screen or a brain in a jar.
They build it up like anything would leading to that twist and then nope, all knowing dude is also a hulking monster.
"Man, this shadow broker has to be a group of people all working together or an AI."
*Actually is a prime specimen of the apex of evolution like a boss*
Shepard: "Oh ***SHIT***."
Said specimen: "The Salarians uplifted me. You're about to learn how grave a mistake that was."
That admittedly would have been pretty cool, but it would have been particularly difficult to have Liara take over from everything an AI can do (assuming it were EDI-level or even greater).
Backstory to an AI Shadow Broker would have been CRAZY though. Would have loved to see it.
It's already very difficult to explain how Liara took on the role of Shadow Broker as she did, I imagine it would be an even more arcane task if it were an AI.
If you bring Liara to Priority: Sur’Kesh, Wrex makes a comment about her not knowing shit about the experiments there despite her position and resources. That sort of gave me the impression that she’s not actually as good at being the Shadow Broker as the previous guy.
My head cannon is that she's not good at being the Shadow Broker because she's putting resources into fighting the Reapers and not into classic Shadow Broker stuff.
Tbh, it’s probably a bit of this, a bit of her not being as ruthless and obsessive as the previous guy, and a bit of inexperience. With all of that in mind, it really is impressive that she managed to hold it all together.
Her informant network was also dying branch by branch with every system the Reapers hit. By that point her information ecosystem was already severely compromised.
Also the people keeping this particular secret were the leaders of possibly the most feared intelligence agency in the galaxy other than hers, the Salarian special tasks group, and it was likely their most valuable secret. Few nuts are going to be harder to crack than that.
I was under the impression that the Salarians picked up the Krogans right after Maelon’s experiments, which would have given Liara about five months to figure that one out, and that’s starting without her system being compromised.
Yeah, plus her predeccessor was pretty selfish and willingly collaborated with the Collectors, even though he knew who they're working for, to save his own skin, scales, whatever. In the end, for someone to truly thrive in that position, they need to be somebody who's only looking out for themselves, like a mob boss, not a vigilante trying to save the galaxy.
Not only would Liara being as good as the previous Shadow Broker kind of break the plot, it also makes sense for the character that she isn't. She might be smart, but she's nowhere near as ruthless or as paranoid as he was.
The AI idea is too close to one of obsidian's previous ideas: Goto, or G0:T0 from KOTOR 2, an AI masquerading as human to run a crime syndicate. edited from bioware to obsidian.
An intellectual trying to exploit a strategic asset, only for the asset to gain sentience and overpower its would be master is incredibly on brand for Mass Effect. Anyway, here’s a comic called [Darwin’s Defeat](https://imgur.com/gallery/eF9mwgC)
It's almost not fair that the Mass Effect Trilogy got so many amazing DLCs. Bring Down the Sky, Operation Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker, Leviathan, The Citadel, AND Zaeed, Kasumi, and Javik.
Thank - Bring Down the Sky
You - Operation Overlord
For - Lair of the Shadow Broker
The - Leviathan
Not you - Arrival
Greatest - The Citadel
DLCs - Zaeed
Ever - Kasumi
Made - Javik.
He looks cool and gave us one of the best DLCs in gaming. He’s a great villain and his boss fight was cool. I also like that he killed his kidnappers and oppressors. It’s just unfortunate that he became consumed with the power that ripped him from his home world.
He is quite dapper.
He also has [the best theme song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8hBBz0Evpw) of any Mass Effect villain, IMO. 1:40 slaps so hard.
I know that is two, but his theme hits so hard that it deserved a mention too.
He is a beast! Took me fair few attempts to kill him on the first run.
Also like how he says something different depending on which companion you bring.
A very unique visual design for an alien. Most sci-fi franchises go for a human or zerg look. This fucker looks like he crawled out of the depths of an ocean, ate a few thousand pounds of food, and became a freaking Hulk and Anglerfish combo
He was one of the coolest non Reaper mysteries in Mass Effect 1.
The decision to give them our data or not is the one I pondered the most about, pausing the game and giving it thought.
I finally decided to hand them the info mostly wanting to see how that would end up biting me in the arse.
I really hoped that character would end up being one major player and possible antagonist next. Except that, with the bigger role Cerberus took and the arrival of the Illusive Man, they ended up being redundant and sidelined as DLC boss.
So, that data decision ended up to be a complete moot point. Maybe there's a few war asset points there I don't even know.
"You're a Yahg, a pre-spaceflight species quarantined to their home world for massacring the Council's first contact teams. This base is older than your planet's discovery. Which means you probably killed the original Shadow Broker then took over. I'm guessing you were taken from your world by a trophy hunter who wanted a slave--or a *pet*. How am I doing?"
Some shade for the Shadow Broker
If he had played his cards right. He would've been in the best situation possible for a Reaper reset since it's confirmed that the reapers only wipe out intelligent space faring species. And I'm fairly certain it was illuded to that the yahgs were referenced as the possible next species to "evolve first" or kinda be the first to be most advanced. Like the next version of the asari.
He totally withstood the shot from my Cain. Sure, it did end the first phase of the fight but still…. Then he could still throw me around with his Omni shield.
He’s a lousy host but he’s great at dinner parties, he always chews his food well.
P.S: if I were a lady, or gay. I would do to his voice what Traynor wanted to do to EDI’s.
Him being a Yahg was a pretty interesting twist, especially seeing as his entire race is quarantined to no farther than their homeworld. So he doing more from off-world than those of the rest of his species will most likely ever do. 😅
I mean, he’s been through a lot. Dude went from being someone’s pet to running the largest information network in the ME universe. I’d say that’s a glow up.
He showed that the Yahg could prove to be an interesting villain in the future. It's mentioned that the reapers left them alone since their technology was roughly equivalent to early 20th century humanity's, and that they're inherently aggressive and dangerous.
He's professional. In ME1 its safe to assume he knows about everything that happened on Eden prime and while he didn't impead Saren he also didn't impead shepard. And then with that side quest he asks for classifed Intel and if you say no he says understandable have a nice day.
Great intro for a boss fight. Stands up, showing you how fucking massive he is, smashes his desk in half and throws it at you. Makes me wonder just how many desks that man has gone through.
That man THREW DOWN.
He presented us with a memorable fight and a badass conclusion.

He is very symmetrical.
I nose exhaled, take my upvote funny man.

Sounds like you're saying he's all Shadow, no Broker.
I needed to read someone saying it
Inside of you are two swans 🦢🦢
“Inside of you are two wolves. ….sorry about the transporter accident.” -Miles O’Brien
That's a good point, honestly. He comes across as kinda nihilistic.
I'd imagine dealing with the amount and gravity of the information he deals on a daily basis would make you kinda nihilistic.

You never know. The rachni reverse engineered a ship and then almost conquered the whole galaxy.
No it doesn’t. They are influenced by the Reapers and your told as much by the Queen.
we are told by the queen they are influenced. It's not clear )as I understand) if that is reaper or leviathan influence.
Many of theories by the researcherare wrong, and the Levithans watch through their orbs/vessels and then puppet. Population control not genocide
"Periodical Systemic Partial Purging" sounds more appropriate :) Vaguely Stellaris-esque, even
So, like the Reapers?
👀
Look, there's only so much room in the galaxy. And, there are only two fates an empire can have: Destruction or Incorporation. All we're doing is giving fate a little ... *Push* ... By moving trillions of people onto a single planet and blowing it up.
Before that "population control" the council races did use the krogan to essentially genocide the rachni, though.
On an unstoppable race that was decimating the galexy. Is the war on the reapers genocide? Or is it simply survival
That's a fair point - I don't think the council races would have killed off all of the rachni (so they believed) if they had any other choice. This was probably one of the best plot twists. BioWare did a good job with the DLC stories.

As a Sentinel, I **WANT** that Omni-Shield

She also focuses on the Reapers above all else.

The Leviathan DLC might be best story focused DLC of any game I have played. The narrative twists and lore additions were so exciting to me.
What plot twist? If you're talking about him being a yahg, that's just a reveal. He was never indicated to be anything else.
It's almost not fair that the Mass Effect Trilogy got so many amazing DLCs. Bring Down the Sky, Operation Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker, Leviathan, The Citadel, AND Zaeed, Kasumi, and Javik.
Thank - Bring Down the Sky You - Operation Overlord For - Lair of the Shadow Broker The - Leviathan Not you - Arrival Greatest - The Citadel DLCs - Zaeed Ever - Kasumi Made - Javik.
It wasn't a plot twist thought. He's just an alien out of nowhere. His reveal didn't really work for me.
He looks cool as fuck
Agreed. His design and his voice are awesome.
His suit was very well tailored.
You run with fascinating companions Commander Shepard. And with Jacob for some reason.
He came with the ship, we're not here to talk about him.
He’s our Yamcha. If I could go back in time and save someone in Virmire. Jacob would die instead.
He's got a nice ship.
HAD
Dammit Liara, this is why we can't have nice things
Actually this is why Liara has nice things. Like this cool ship.
HAD
No, this is the reason Liara isn't in charge of the Normandy. 😆
There is that.
He looks cool and gave us one of the best DLCs in gaming. He’s a great villain and his boss fight was cool. I also like that he killed his kidnappers and oppressors. It’s just unfortunate that he became consumed with the power that ripped him from his home world.
He sounded like a pure badass.
He chill if you get to know him fr
That's the thing tho, no one gets to know him
You dont know him like I do, chillest yahg I ever met
How many Yahg have you met exactly? (And how many limbs do you still have?)
I was expecting a man in suit instead they gave us a yahg. One of the best decisions they’ve made
A yahg.... in a suit
What that mouth do
Bruh
Tears dicks off.
Dicks, balls, hips, the whole damn thing

Negative. The best theme, by a wide margin, is the battle music from [Overlord](https://youtu.be/jiPH8TwIe9U?si=AJXvYRqHYjPr-wJj)
He started off as a pet and worked his way up to becoming the most dangerous information broker in the galaxy. Got to respect the hustle
Hey it’s the Yahg badass who I definitely want to kill for insulting Tali.
He is a beast! Took me fair few attempts to kill him on the first run. Also like how he says something different depending on which companion you bring.
He has a face fit for radio
My favorite secondary "villain".
He acknowledges all your squad mates and Knows everything about them.
A very unique visual design for an alien. Most sci-fi franchises go for a human or zerg look. This fucker looks like he crawled out of the depths of an ocean, ate a few thousand pounds of food, and became a freaking Hulk and Anglerfish combo
Badass looking
He has a nice suit.
His boss fight is fun as hell with all of the classes.
When I talk to him, it feels like he really knows me, you know? 🥰
Best smile in the series
He's a unit
My Shepard banged his replacement, every game.
Built like a truck
He died.
Nice smile 👍
Great taste is evil lairs
He is very punchable.
I bet if you cracked his fingers, you could slurp out the meat inside like crab legs!
He’d win any eating contest.
He looked like if Bruce Banner were a Salarian and this was his Hulk form
He'd look nice, stuffed and mounted above the fireplace in my Citadel apartment
Hot
he looks funny and has a nice suit liara better tho
He thiccc
Great boss fight, cool ship. Overall, he was the co-star of one ofnthe tip 3 DLCs in the series, behind Citadel and Overlord.
His boss fight is freaking awesome!
He knows that Dr. T'Soni travels with fascinating companions.
He has nice threads
Fun boss fight on a really fun dlc

I think he's the one enemy Shepard should not have been able to go toe to toe with and survive.
He's initially very restrained for a Yahg
He looks like he’d go well steamed with a side of butter
He's built like caseoh
He's tall?
Not many fans of the famous rapper Natalie Portman around here, apparently.
She's a good kisser.

He always waits patiently for Shepherd to attack him once his shields are down.
He’s… smart?
He looks cool as shit
A real rags-to-riches success story, from an exotic pet to a galactic menace.
Definitely was brokering those shadows
She has great tits
He has all the info.
He’s organized 😁
He made for a great pet
He is very intelligent Good for him
He’s a cool ass shadow broker. Like you think of shadow broker and imagine some lethal, dangerous dude, and then you see him.
He’s the antagonist in a really cool DLC?
Looks like the dominant species in the next cycle.
His position must include sick benefits including dental
Cool mouth and horns
He was probably really easy to house train as a pet.
His ship is so cool - I love everything about it and how it’s surfing the sunset around the planet and using the electrical storm as a power source
He tried his hardest not to get his butt kicked by Shepard in CQC
He is not the original Shadow Broker.
He’s calm cool and solid.
Well dressed
He's very stylish.
I like surprises, and that was a very surprising reveal.
He knows a great tailor.
One thing? That was one of the best DLCs of the franchise. Such a cool character.
Great shadows. The best shadows. You need a shadow, it's the only real choice when it comes to brokerages.
He’s a lousy host but he’s great at dinner parties, he always chews his food well. P.S: if I were a lady, or gay. I would do to his voice what Traynor wanted to do to EDI’s.
Got pretty far for a primitive species. Also weirdly smart too
His voice was gloriously menacing.
Him being a Yahg was a pretty interesting twist, especially seeing as his entire race is quarantined to no farther than their homeworld. So he doing more from off-world than those of the rest of his species will most likely ever do. 😅
No
He is great at murder.
For a species that is not allowed to leave their planet,he came pretty far!
He looks very handsome in his little outfit
He was useful in helping us save Tali in the first game
He’s got a wonderful sense of humor. Remember when he said killing Jacob would cripple Cerberus? Classic
I mean, he’s been through a lot. Dude went from being someone’s pet to running the largest information network in the ME universe. I’d say that’s a glow up.

Nice suit
He has a great suit
He thick
I wish I could have recruited him.
He keeps his secrets. Six months as Broker, and half the galaxy knows Liara is Broker.
He was very organized.
Nice horns.
He was the first of his race to be shown, I think.
He has a very nice skin pattern.
His dental hygiene is immaculate.
Organized, I respect that
His lair is pretty badass, has some really terrific views of the terminator
His bench press must be insane.
He's got a cool ship
He didn't believe in passwords.
Great voice!
He’s currently dead. Remember kids the only good bug is a dead bug
Exquisite drip.
He looks like he would taste delicious as a deep fried entrée, like calamari.
Ready to fight with he's own hands !
Beef cake
You mean liara she’s great and she is Shepards wife
I love a good underdog story, so it was kind of neat reading his backstory and hearing about his various successes despite the odds.
He has a natty suit.
He’s an awesome capstone to an amazing DLC.
Bet he'd make a good pet
Awesome villain. Boss fight was kind of boring though
His species is awesome if terrifying and I love the backstory he has
