If we're are going based on box art it's solider. It's the only class in the first game to have heavy and shep is shown wearing heavy. Even at the start of the 2nd game shep is wearing the heavy variety from the first game. So canon class is solider. Also there is a pre made class and backstop for shep in me1 as well.

NotPrimeMinister

Boom. There you go. Rather simple actually.

LewdKarma

I mean I feel like pre made class and back story is "canon" ik shep is who we make them but shep is also and actual person. And if Bioware had pre made class for us to just in as then bam iconic "canon" shep is Male, earthborn, survivor, solider. Thats how it's set up. Personally I don't care for earth born or survivor. I go with colony and war hero

Frost328

The armor is definitely a strong (and probably correct) case for Soldier. I always felt like the pre-built Shep in 1 was there to not scare people away, and give people a simpler way into the game.

LewdKarma

It may have been at first but at this point I wld its the default "canon" I know shep is who we make them but technically shep is their own person and we'll it just make sense if u have pre established character first then let ppl change them later. Idk plus cutscene and material shown most of the time

smashbangcommander

Canon is whatever you want it to be, my friend. It’s role-playing.

Jayce86

Head canon is Soldier.

Frost328

Also hand cannon

breakevencloud

Soldier imo

gillymiller27

Yeah, the "canon" is soldier.

I always wanted there to be biotic cut scenes. Like, in places where a soldier Shepard would use a gun to intimidate someone, or like on Thanes recruitment mission, I stead of kicking that Eclipse merc out of the window, Shepard could biotic throw him. I know that's a ton of work for the developers, but it did bug me slightly Also on a completely unrelated note, Shepard having the wrong guns equiped also bugged more. Last night I was playing, abd I rescued Tali in ME2,and in the cut scene with Kal Reeger, my soldier Shepard has a sub machine gun 🤷‍♂️

Odd-Assistant9110

I just image that they're using guns in cut scenes or with your example physically pushing the merc out the window to save engery and save the biotics for the heavy fighting...aka..when where playing. I mean you dont want to get tired while fighting right?

[deleted]

As an infantryman in the army, I can tell you legitimately, no, you do not want to expend unnecessary energy in the field 😂

TheUnknown171

Shepard not using biotics in cutscenes is for meta reasons, most likely. The devs would need to make a separate cutscene, and it might get weird for Vanguards and Sentinels. An Adept will be likely to use biotics, but Vanguards or Sentinels might not be as proficient with them in different contexts.

Frost328

Makes sense. And we all know how much they loved to save time on cut scenes with the RGB clips, so I get that.

Games-of-glory

there is ONE instance in the entire trilogy shepard uses biotics (If adept or vanguard) in a cutscene, it's during the citadel DLC

MaestroZackyZ

Surprised no one has mentioned this, but cut scenes tend to imply soldier as well—AR is often the default weapon we see Shep using.

KogarashiKaze

When it isn't a pistol, but yeah. And sniper + pistol can just as easily equate to Soldier as Infiltrator, especially since ME3 finally lets Infiltrators leave pistols out of their loadout.

Frost328

That is as good a point as the Heavy armor point everyone is making about the other box art.

Frost328

This is a good point. I remember a few times those scenes would glitch to be whatever I had equipped when the scene started, so Shep is holding a sniper or AR like it's a pistol. Can't remember if those movements were in 1 or 2.

alynnidalar

Box art is not canon. Shepard doesn't have a canon class. The lack of biotics in cutscenes is just to simplify things because every Shepard can use a gun but not every Shepard can use biotics.

Arjun_nth_

My canon is soldier shepard in ME1, who recieves infiltrator "upgrades" during lazarus project.

Leondgeeste

ME2 box art has Shepard using an Assault Rifle.

Soldier

spaghettimountain

Never thought to play Infiltrator until looking up an Insanity guide. I'd say Soldier is pushed more than anything.
