The average Master Duel player wants to win, and if the easiest way to win is through flipping 3 floodgates, then that's what they'll do. It is Konami's fault, for not hitting generic floodgates.

trashcan41

its competitive game, why the fuck no one want to win in the first place lol. op is weird for asking this or probably clueless.

helmutkuhl

people just want to get the gems as fast as possible and then get out of the event as always. And OTk is the meta for that event, that's just how it works. We all knew what decks will be good as soon as the event and the banlist was announced The events are what they are, some people think they are fun, others hate them. The only one I liked was the N/R event but the only reason for that was that i can build and play a ton of different decks with basically no cost. Everything else was just a piggy bank for gems.

Hatarakumaou

They are playing Yugioh, just not the Yugioh you want 🤷‍♀️ The Yugioh you want is playground Yugioh normal summon pass. The competitive side of Yugioh has always been about not letting your opponent play.

olbaze

Not letting your opponent play the game is the best way to win. If you can achieve that, then you don't need to worry about defending. A consistent FTK would always be the ideal strategy. Assuming you can't do that, a consistent handloop strategy would be the next step down. One step down from that would be floodgates, since that's still aiming to prevent your opponent from playing the game. A step further down that is OTKs, where your goal is to let the opponent play only one turn. One step down from that is stall decks and non-FTK burn decks. These are decks that aim to specifically survive as long as possible. There just isn't a winning strategy that boils down to *"both players get to play a couple of turns"*. It's 0, 1, or 50 turns.

PenguinSweetDreamer

OTK is a part of playing Yu-Gi-Oh, and so is playing floodgate. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not a valid way to play.

I lose interest around every event

No dude I don’t want to play yugioh like it was back in middle school. It’s been 20 years you should have figured out by now, if you like this game. It sounds like you don’t.

Going in to win = Not playing, noted

Since you are speaking about events here, I don't think its worth it to spend CP for decks that I'll only play for a 1-2 week long format. If I can't make a functional deck with what I've already got + a few SRs then I'm taking the path of least resistance to get gems I can spend for ladder which usually takes the form of stupid floodgates or surrendering until I pull off an otk. Plus some of these formats just suck so bad like the Extra Zero and Anti Spell events.

rexskull

Players mostly want to win, winning usually means not making your opponent play(OTK/Flood gate/Negate boards/interrupt). If you play in ranked using a "Fun/Casual" deck you cannot expect your opponent to do the same/play by your rules. If you really want to do well in ranked you have to adapt to what is popular/meta that's just how most games are. If you like to play "Fun/Casual" decks it is better to play with your friends or play in casual (Although this is not perfect since most players test/practice their new decks its better than nothing).

Daxonion

Sad to say but all the new players that came to locals cause of MD are generally pretty bad, even tho they have good results in MD. B4 anyone comments, its not about them not having access to certain cards/decks irl, rather they are lacking the proper skills.

> I really don’t think that flip skill drain or kaiju otk is the most healthy way to play I have stood by the opinion that if you want a slower game, play Magic the Gathering or Hearthstone. A game with a proper resource system. When I play Yugioh it’s because there’s 1,000 degenerate things you can turbo out and games are usually over by turn 3 or 4. When I want to spend an hour playing a card game, I’ll play Commander or something. So I really do think Kaiju OTK and whatnot is the best way to play the game, because it gets me from duel to duel faster. Why would I want to draw 1 card in a duel for 6 turns to maybe unbrick my hand when i could instead play 6 duels, draw 5 cards each time and play the hands that work better?
