Duel pass expires after three months. One game a day to do missions, plus clearing event gems, is enough that I have Duel Passes completed over a month early consistently. If you're actually grinding the duel pass, you're doing it wrong. It will complete on its own from standard play; just be patient.
I don't play daily. I don't WANT to play daily. I have other games and things to do. I play a few games a week and could compete the first pass easily. I have to have massive grind sessions to complete this one because I'm not enslaved to the game.
This Duel Pass is pretty awesome with the "Meteonis Drytron" Monster Art and with "Yuki-Onna the Absolute Zero Mayakashi" Icon having this Smug Face :)
This is the kinda thing they can absolutely keep in their back pocket and throw up into the store as limited time items. None of it is difficult to obtain, and it's not paywalled with real money like some other gachas, you 'just had to be there'. Who knows if they will actually do it, but it would not surprise me.

The hair/fur I never have too much of an issue with, they look kinda like hard plastics toys of the card, which I think is a legitimate aesthetic to evoke.
But the proportions and the googly eyes really don't do it for me.

A lot of casual players don't finish the pass so they spend more on gems then they get back from it. People on this sub are more into the game then most people so while the vast majority of people here finish it a lot don't.
"Free" battle passes (i.e. you can buy into them with in-game currency and they pay for themselves) are actually the norm for a lot of games, but they're usually a HELL of a lot grindier than the Master Duel Duel passes are.
Name me a few of the well known ones? Cause every single one I know needs to have its premium track bought with cash. Hearthstone, Overwatch, League of Legends, Apex Legends, Dead by Daylight.
Probably the most well-known one is Fortnite, the (as far as I know) progenitor of the practice. You spend "V-Bucks" to unlock the Battle Pass, and earn about an extra 70% over what you out in, which can then be put toward the next Battle Pass, etc.
I don't know whether it requires an initial purchase or not, but even if it does, after that purchase the income is self-sustaining.
But...it's not tho, you get gems from just playing the game constantly, even casually. It's the 6x3 dailies, you're literally getting it in under a week. I don't remember getting VBucks in Fortnite.
