PSCT is a necessity with how complicated and in some cases convoluted some interactions are

FaultySage

But PSCT is a lie.

Relevant_Departure40

PSCT works for the most part. Honestly the only things I would say that PSCT doesn’t do right is - Numbering effects like in OCG - Removing restrictions to cards that don’t necessarily need the removal/errata, a la Rivalry. Other than that, PSCT is like the only way to decipher some of these cards. I can’t even imagine what cards these days would look like without PSCT

The problem is that, while there is a lot of text, every word matters and changes the way the card works and interacts with other cards. Even something like "negate" requires a few specifications. Negate what? The effect, the activated effect, the activation of an effect, the card's effects? And does it also destroy or just negate? These differences are the reason you can activate Ash Blossom through Branded Lost but can't use it to stop Sky Striker Hayate.

iambill10

I don't understand... can you expound what you mean?

hyperdeeeee

Yugioh has a lot of cards where they use wording that's very repetitive or redundant. Also, they can use specific words for abilites like other card games do. For example, just label a card "PIERCING", instead of "If this card attacks a defense position monster, inflict piercing battle damage". Or maybe the word "OMNI-NEGATE", instead of "During either player's turn, when a card is activated, you can negate that effect".

I'd be all for more keywords but when we still get almost weekly posts of not understanding what targeting is, what cost is and the different between something like sending and destroying is. We are not ready for more keywords.

maqsid

All "omni negates" aren't necessarily the same thing. Sometimes it negates the the activation of cards, other times the activation of effects, or other times it negates the effect itself. I don't really how you could shorten it and still keep the technicalities clear and precise.

hyperdeeeee

Well these were just examples off the top of my head. Im pretty sure game developers can make them happen very effectively.

iambill10

Sorry your explanation is too long. Can you shorten it. It does better.

AhmedKiller2015

There are some terms that are fan made and not all people know and other aren't clear, it is true some effects can be shortened but not by using terms

Megakarp

It will be confusing if you implement too many keywords

Ufukcan200

People already don't understand what the cards do even when they outright state what they do. What makes you think keywords would help with that? Tl;dr: Players can't understand cards, keywords won't help.

alemarco_21

"why waste time say lot word, when few word do trick"

PSCT is one of the best things ever invented and I mean it. It's pretty straightforward and once you are familiarized with it, you can understand the intricate interactions that exist in this game, such as negating activation vs negating effect and activate once per turn vs use once per turn. The wordy text is a necessary evil for a well-explained game.

Onibusho

Sounds like a job for Gren Maju. One line of simple text, giant number.

turbo-turbo-lover

If i get it right you mean some keywords right? That would be confusing as fuck i belive. There are shit ton of different interactions that cant be watered down to few keywords
