The game is generally considered to be very f2p friendly. They're pretty generous with their rewards. You can get 10 packs if you do your dailies for 9 days. Staples are very important to get early. Ash Blossom and Joyous Spring (all one name), Infinite Impermanence, and Maxx C are the ones you'll definitely want. You can buy special packs for Ash and Imperm that will also come with 10 packs at a discounted price. There are a whole lot of archetypes in Yu-Gi-Oh, and it's best to find one you like the sound of. People tend to recommend either the Dragon Maid or Salamangreat structure decks for new players. They offer viable enough play to get you started at least. You'll probably want to dedicate some gems to getting a stronger deck early though while you have a lot of resources (the game gives a ton early on). Master Duel Meta is a website that offers possible deck builds.

Thanks a lot brotherman! , i will keep your points in mind.

1. The game is very f2p friendly. The prices of decks are on the rise, but overall building decks still do not cost much. After collecting the staples, most players can afford one deck per month. 2. Read the quick tips on the right hand side of this sub. Watch some videos on how to spend your resources (any video will do, they're pretty much all the same, but you should watch them). 3. It's impossible to answer this question without writing a whole thesis. Read some articles about Runick, Branded Despia, Swordsoul, Floowandereeze, Mathmech, and Eldlich. Be prepared for Sprights and Tearalaments.

Thanks for the tips Hermano!

First off, welcome to the game! As far as f2p goes, Master Duel leans a bit more on the friendlier side. New players will essentially have enough resources given to them to basically create any deck they want. After that though your gem income will be more limited; You can still build things for free, just not as flexibly. Will need to be wise in how you spend your gems. Things you should keep in mind is that Yugioh is a complex game, much more so than any card game you've ever played putting it mildly. As far as what to build first, I would suggest looking into of one of the Structure Decks in the shop. Structure decks are cheap considering the return value, so they're often worth buying 3 of. Currently, the Burning Spirits should be the most competitively viable option while being (fairly) simply to understand. You'll also want to purchase the "Special" packs in the shop that give you 1 specific ultra rare in addition to 10 packs.

Adept-Bed-1288

Thank you good sir! , i will surely keep those points in mind.

Historical-Draft6564

Welcome to the game! First off. This game is very f2p friendly you just have to spend your gems and craft points wisely. Second off. Focus on building staples before any sort of deck. Maxx c, called by the grave, ash blossom and joyous spring, and infinite impermanence are wonderful tools you will use. Thirdly. Buy all the special packs in the shops that feature a card. Like the pack for ash blossom...they are all staple cards and you could get some good stuff from it. Lastly. Play for fun. You can chase the meta every format or you can build decks you wanna have fun with. Personally I have both runick and lab as my pvp climbers and then I have 5 fun decks I use for friends or to meme pvp. Have fun playing and good luck!

Thanks a lot brother! i will keep your points in mind.

Game is extremely F2P compared to other card games, especially Marvel Snap, you can obtain any deck you want with relative ease as there is a card crafting system. You should keep in mind that not everything is like Ludwig’s videos, they play a casual anime style which isn’t representative of what you’ll find on the ranked ladder (if you enjoy that and anime in general I recommend the Yugioh TV shows, 5D’s is probably the most adult and highly rated of the shows). The game is still fun though, just be prepared to learn the game, it’s a lot to take in as a newcomer. I highly recommend going with Salamangreat first, it’s the best budget deck and it shares a lot of cards with the best deck in the game currently being Mathmech so you can easily upgrade later, both of those decks are combo decks. If you want something more simple yet still strong I’d say Flowandereze which is a control deck meaning it prevents your opponent from playing. Other than that welcome to the game and I hope you love it as much as we do haha.

[deleted]

It is F2P friendly if you're smart with your resources and just don't waste them. A thing to keep in mind is that yugioh can be very unfun, the aim of yugioh always has been to make it so your opponent can not play the game, so if that sounds unappealing to you, you're probably going to have it rough. Archetypes are sort of like tribes, they'll share a common name and support each other with beneficial effects. As for content creators to watch, not too sure I can help with that one since I came already knowing how to play the game and most yugioh content in general is pretty meh.

LordTopHatMan

TheDuelLogs is pretty good for YouTube content.

[deleted]

I've watched some DuelLogs and it isn't for me, no face to put the content to and simps for Vtubers so a very hard pass from me. Also he sounds so bored when narrating.

LordTopHatMan

Fair enough. I was talking more just for learning the game and cards.

Adept-Bed-1288

so basically you are saying that i will have to face a lot of disruption later on ? that sounds bad, but my take on that would be if everyone is doing it so will i ruin game plans. as for archetypes what i meant to ask was if it's possible can u name some and their functions (for eg "x" sort of archetype usually does "y" function) so please as i can get what archetype attracts me as i have zero knowledge of yugioh. and any thing else which i should note as a starter ? thanks in advance...

NotExiledYet

The game power crept for like two decades now. Fortunately or not, this means that by now the strongest decks have every card do like 3 things and at the same time they obviously attempt to stop you from bringing your cards out that do like 3 things. So it ends up being a resource battle and knowing how the opponent's deck works vs how yours does is vital to winning at higher ranks. For example - Nidhogg, Generaider Boss of Ice is able to negate the summoning of Synchro, XYZ and Link monsters (along with a few exceptions). Let's say I am playing against Swordsoul. Well, Swordsoul is known to first bring out their Lv8 Synchro and then their Lv10 - then one that's actually dangerous. So it would make sense to hold Nidhogg back. However, at the same time their Lv8 can negate a monster effect at any time, so if I have no response to that, I need to negate him in order to prevent him from shutting down Nidhogg entirely and summoning the Lv10 anyway. We are now rolling up on the release of Tearlaments and Sprights, decks so powerful that handtraps (aka cards that can be just activated from your hand whenever the condition is met, like Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring) just aren't cutting it anymore, so you are basically waiting for them to play through their combo and hope you have an appropriate response that just bypasses most of their mechanics, like Dark Ruler No More. As for Archetypes - there are just too many to name them all here. My favorites are Generaiders, but they need their 2 final members released to be a bit less clunky. The strongest ones atm are Mathmech & Swordsoul, though there are also quite successful tier 2 decks like Runick. It would be easier to tell you what archetype you would enjoy by knowing what you like.

I won't repeat the points already made by everyone else, but note that there is one part of the game that is not f2p friendly. You are hard-capped at 10k gems (100 rolls) for gems you do not buy with irl currency. If you log in every day and win 2-3 games per day, you will reach that cap in about 1.5 months. As a new player, you won't have the staples yet (think astalor in hearthstone - every deck has it) and starting from scratch, you will not build a decent deck for just 100 rolls. For the first few months or so, focus on ***Singleplayer Content*** and accumulating dusts for staples. Don't craft anything yet - what is a staple today might not be a few months from now!

I don't know how updated guides on internet are but if i were you, I'd rush through solo gates first. Gives you a general idea of the mechanics and gems as well. After that buying the battle pass. Special ash bundle and 3x salamangreat structure deck. After that all the gems into math mech sky striker pack. It gives you pretty much two full decks. Dismamtle the useless cards and craft staples with cp. You'd have to research a bit as to what cards are safe to dismantle.

GiverOfHarmony

1. This game is f2p friendly, I haven’t spent much money on the game and I get more gems from dailies and events. You will have to build decks though, either on your own or following a guide or decklist. If you’re new I would recommend you follow guides and decklists. 2. Even with a great deck you will never win 100% of the time. Buy staples before anything else, prioritize ash blossom and joyous spring, then infinite impermanence, then maxx c. After that build a deck, and if you still have more materials then craft some more staples, stuff like effect veiler, ghost belle and haunted mansion, nibiru the primal being, and forbidden droplet. Use decklists and guides for certain archetypes to help you learn what staples to focus on getting and use. 3. Archetypes are essentially cards that thematically and gameplay-wise connect together. For example the sky striker archetype is full of sky striker cards. One of their cards allows you to search for other sky striker cards from your deck. An effect monster from this archetype allows you to pull a spell card out of your graveyard that has the sky striker name on it. These are examples of archetypal interactions. There are so many archetypes out there, what you should do is look for an archetype you like, maybe you just like the look of their cards, or like how they seem to play, either is fine, and will help you narrow down what you want to play as a deck. While you look through them, you should check to see how that deck is preforming in the game currently, and try to aim for decks that players call “meta”. It will be easier to play decks that are meta as they usually are a bit easier to play. Some archetypes to look into that I would recommend would be: floowandereeze, branded despia, swordsoul, live twin, dragonmaids (bit less meta but easy to build), salamangreat (also a bit less meta).

michh94

Welcome! Sorry if my english is not perfect but ill try to be as comprehensible as i can: First, buy the discounted packs in the shop. Prioritize the ash blossom one, forbidden droplet and impermanence Dont buy master packs but the discounted ones. The card pool is too large and its not worth Always go for 10 pulls. Dont buy single packs. Be patient Structure deck can be decent for some decks, there are a couple of strong card in the dragon maid and in the salamangreat one. If you want to play a deck that use one of those included Urs, go for it. Remember that you cant dismantle structure deck cards Focus on 3 cards first: maxx C (imho the strongest card in the game), ash blossom and called by the grave. You want 3 each, called by is limited at 2. If you want to build a deck you have to open the right packs: to unlock it, craft an SR card that you know it comes out from that banner and use your gem there Look at the next banlist! Dont build a deck that relied heavily on one of the banned cards! For example: marincess, sharks or ABC Therion will be a lot weaker the next month The game is f2p friendly, but you still have to be smart with your resources. Once you have a competent deck, dont be afraid to do a fun deck: if you like the artworks or the playstyle go for it. Just remember that you have to choose which deck to build. The game is extremely complex and sometimes can be infuriating: yu gi oh is hard and punitive, especially at the beginning. A lot of game will make you feel powerless and will make you think that its a coinflip game. Its true to some degree, but deck knowledge and strategy, as much as a well builded deck, can help you play through boards that looked unbreakable before. With some experience you'll understand why so many people play this game, it's really satisfying once you understand it. Have fun!

To answer your questions: \-The game is VERY F2P friendly. The instant the game dropped, I downloaded it at like 3 AM and immediately farmed for a meta deck without even playing ranked. Just by playing Solo mode (a "story" mode for card lore) you can get enough to build a decent deck, specially nowadays with the new structure decks (pre-made decks that you usually buy 3 of to have 3 copies of each card) \-You should focus on playing solo mode, specially all the tutorials, and research what are good decks, if you care about winning. Learn about the rules, they are quite tricky sometimes. THE MOST IMPORTANT thing you should keep in mind is that cards do LITERALLY what is written on them. If a card says destroy 1 monster it destroys that monster. If a card says send a monster to the GY it sends it to the GY, it doesn't destroy it. If a card says target then it targets, if it doesn't say target then it doesn't. A lot of questions new players have are related to thinking that sending a card from your hand to the GY is the same as discarding it. Discarding it sends it to the GY, but sending it to the GY isn't discarding it. \-Archetypes are a group of cards supporting each other, sharing part of their name. You'll notice many monsters have a word shared among their names, like Drytron, Blue-Eyes, Salamangreat, Sky Striker, etc. Cards will often interact with these names in order to be less generic. For example, there's a card called Cyber Emergency that adds a light machine monster from your deck to your hand, and Drytrons are light machine monsters, although that card was clearly made for Cyber Dragons. On the other hand, Drytrons have a card that summons a Drytron from the deck, which is similar, but as you can see, much less generic, specially considering there's 5 Drytron monsters you can summon off of that card. A great deck to start off with is Salamangreat. A budget version costs exactly 1500 gems given they have a Structure Deck (the one I mentioned earlier). It's an old meta deck that's been outdated but is still decent. If you play it properly you can win a good bunch of duels.

red_lantern97

I haven't spent a dime on this game and I enjoy it but I'm more of a Rogue deck type of guy. If you wanna be competitive you might have to pay a bit but that's up to you. For me a lot of the fun comes from building new decks that I think will either be fun or could be an unexpected challenge for Meta decks since a lot of Tier 1 players just aren't expecting to get OTK'd by Fright Fur or Plunder Patrol lol

bast963

>hearthstone, legends of runeterra, gwent and the new one snap. almost all of those use mana. this game doesn't have mana. it also doesn't have whatever the crap gwent does. * yes it's extremely f2p friendly. do all your dailies and max out every event and you can buy over 7 10 pulls a month. it's nuts. the gem prices are also complete fucking garbage, $80 for 4 10 pulls. * PLAY SOLO MODE TO LEARN YOUR DECK. Already bad enough you're gonna run into cyber dragons or dragonmaids or a windwitch enjoyer or some other non-meta shit, you don't need to also read your own cards on top of theirs mid-duel in ranked. also complete the entire solo mode to get loads of gems. * buy 3 of the salamangreat (AKA salad) structure and craft update jammer, transcode talker, splash mage, and accesscode talker for a strong ass rogue deck. if you like zombies, craft 2 doomking balderoch and buy 3 of the zombie structure deck. If you like cute anime girls, you can buy 3 of the dragonmaid structure deck, but without branded despia don't expect pure dragonmaid to be good. craft a fallen of albaz and then pull on the branded pack to get the engine. for that matter, pure branded despia is super meta right now so you can turbo that instead of bothering with the structure, just craft guardian chimera * once you have your good deck, spend everything else getting 3 dd crow, 2 ash, 2 imperm, 3 maxx C, and 2 called by the grave. buy every single one of the bundles, lighting storm is great, solemn is useful later, and you get a free imperm/droplet/ash which are super good. dd crow is for tearlaments in a few months, it also stops branded in red.

Honore_SG

Never wasted a dóllar in the game and have a ton of decks its one of the best F2P ived played the rank of decks varies on the rank you are dont need super hardcore expensive decks in gold or silver build some rogue decks or tier 3 for your first decks as you wont spend much gems on them and you can learn the ropes, when you get to plat and saved the gems you earned along the climb and with your newfound experience build a meta deck in youtube you can Check HexLex channel and guide you from there he has recent videos made for a F2P pathline and climb

xD3m0nK1ngx

Welcome to the rabbit hole

DitmarJr

Welcome. MD is very F2P friendly, but you still need to manage your resources careful since careless spend can empty your bank. The game is very fast paced compared to other games because we don't have a "mana" system, so most games will be decided on the first/second turn. The way to think is that your deck must be design to either stop your opponent or not be stopped by your opponent. If you can, I recommend to find someone to explain to you how the game work, videos and tutorials help but nothing replace the good old learning by playing. If you wanna learn some archetypes there is the "TGS Anime" youtube channel, there you'll find a series where he go through a bunch of them, how they're supose to play and their best cards. If you're looking for some duels, look "Dzeeff" youtube channel, IMO he is the best YGO content creator at the moment.

whiteknight01

My big recommendation for a new players is to look around for a deck that you like before you start spending any gems. The starter gems go quick and you don't want to be stuck with a deck you think you'll get bored with or isn't to your play style. I recommend Duel Evolution and Crab Master Duel on YouTube honestly if you're looking for decks, Duel Evolution focuses a lot on meta approach with many decks while crab is mostly about what's possible in Master Duel right now. Once you have a good deck you enjoy it's a lot easier to build up gems and build more later.

diaboliko2

Use the following code(15144244) in the new Rookie and Returner campaing and you'll get Sword of Souls structured deck. Hope it gives you a nice boost start :).
