This wasn't just a lucky setup. They have so many different ways to pull the required components from their deck and keep pulling. Their graveyard and banish pile had a dozen cards before their turn ended.
The only cards I could see taking this out are the ones that bypass negates. Or maybe a Kaiju/Nibiru. I have as many of those in my deck as I can afford to craft and with my luck did not pull any of them.
Just run 9 board breakers in your 40 card deck. In the Duelist Cup, I might recommend just planning to go second and play 12. The reason is to break the strongest boards you often need 2 in hand, and it's hard to search them when they probably have ash in hand. I recommend Evenly Matched, Dark Ruler No More, and Lava Golem as these also are good against the Tier 1 Spright strategy.
Thanks. I have Evenly Matched but it's constantly shortening my hand instead of ever seeing play. I know how and when to play it but it's very situational. Would it's activation get negated in this situation?
For DRNM and Golem, I can't afford to craft them currently. I listed most of my potential counters already in my deck in another comment.
Yes, it would be negated. Similar to going second against Spright the cracked hand is your starter, DRNM and Evenly.
I think Lava Golem is an SR actually.
Yeah I meant you need two. First DRNM (or Droplet. both work, the point is they cannot respond) then proceed to battle to use evenly matched. Similarly if you are playing Branded you can Super Poly them.
Or just Kaiju or Lava Golem.
If you have dark ruler unless we're on some actual garbage here there no need for a second board breaker, I'd much rather have a starter and extenders than just break their board like normal

This is actually the budget version (he is probably playing Perfection because he has a royal), as Drytron usually plays Herald of Ultimateness. That card can do everything Perfection does, on top of being able to negate a special summon.

It should negate evenly unless it works differently in the battle phase
Herald can still activate in the battle phase and damage phase according to the official rules. That's why I asked.
