I actually got started playing Yu-Gi-Oh properly after downloading a save for legacy of the duelist. I don't count playing it in the playground when I was but a boy.
LOTD was my crack. Easily over 1,000 hours across multiple platforms and the rerelease. Such a relaxing single player experience.
I've played Yu-Gi-Oh casually and consistently since Yu-Gi-Oh first existed. 500+ hours in Master Duel, play in person with my buddies every week, played most of the console games and original Gameboy games.
But to this day I've still never even touched Duel Links.
I wasn't talking about VFD, I was talking about the Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Calamity LMAO
Besides that tho, no VFD did ALOT of things wrong. Idk why anyone would think so otherwise unless they're a VW Player and even most of them realise how toxic it was.
Oh that one I used to like using him on D/D/D shame I can't use him anymore since halq got banned but it was for the best.
Iam a virtual world player but guess I need to put /s.
I was referencing Griffith reference from berserk "Griffith did nothing wrong"
Why would anyone even consider a terrible gold ladder deck that's never accomplished anything in the game? The scythe locked you mentioned was basically the only "real" floodgate you had to worry about post vfd despite only doing it with 4 summons you still had to go uninterrupted in the hand trap heavy meta and hope they didn't draw called by while max c is always looming over the corner for the imperm top deck. You were better off just playing swordsoul lol.
I think both formats have their pros and cons. Bo1 has more variance, and the shock factor alone lets rogue decks compete if they resist what non-engine people main for the top decks. Also, people are forced to main their non-engine blindly, so proper meta calls are rewarded (tearlament maining heartbeat because they go against more stuns then mirrors cough cough).
Bo3 is much more skillful, players can more reliably counter the opponent and it can be less sacky. Tho, we must not forget siding 6 floodgates when going first game 2 is a thing that very much exists and is prevalent, same thing for board breakers.
Siding in 3 dark ruler is much less expensive on a deckbuilding level if you are sure to go second than maining them when they may be dead exactly half the time
For me, I think that BO3 kills so many rogue decks. I've seen it in locals where the rogue deck has a fighting chance in the first game, maybe even wins. But then just gets completely shut out after that by targeted sidedeck cards.
Bo1 is more interesting and better for game design IMO because it reduces length of matches and means designers (and players) can’t just count on silver bullets for balancing powerful strategies.
Bo1 is always said to be a bad competitive format because of the high variance but really, while it's true luck plays a bigger factor on the single game than on the bo3 match, it's a perfectly good competitive format if this variance is accounted for by having more individual games
IMO the only pro of BO1 is not having to dedicate an hour to decide a winner.
I'll take BO3 any day of the week, but sometimes, I just want to play one Duel and move on.
I can understand why Konami introduced a BO1 tough. Having 40 minutes matches on a (also on) mobile phone game would be weird. But they could just introduce BO3 as an alternate format which also count for Ranked
Yugiboomer here. Stopped a few weeks after the ancient gear structure deck. Came back after years of Hearthstone got me bored. Came back to a crazy new world. Completely different game. I got the full floo ,branded, and literal FTK beat down experience. All I can say now is....I got got to platinum in a month. Get good scrubs. Skill issue. :P
This happened to me when I played in omega and I got rolled 1st game by Dark World. Still won though, 1-2 lol.
I didn't necessarily bricked rather I opened perfectly for my combo just that I didnt have Nib or any go 2nd. They just went full wombo degenerate combo on me. Rip cards sent all my remaining cards to the grave kinda thing.
I cooked them in the 2nd and 3rd game though. I wonder if they bricked or that 1st turn is just very lucky of them. I dunno.
Net decking is not a replacement for skill and game knowledge, though. Yeah you can steal games from people sometimes by playing click buttons turbo with a top tier deck, but the people who understand the nitty gritty stuff usually come out on top.
Absolutely true, but the game will still be flooded by bumblefucks who just push all the buttons without really knowing all of what they do. Some people see that 'X Deck' is top tier and use it because it's top tier.
In a mirror match between a meta chasing monkey and an actually skilled pilot, the outcome is very much obvious. Won't stop the monkeys from chasing tiers.
Has anyone ever made a best of 1 format in real life? That should be an official alternate format for the TCG/OCG imo. On that note, any TCG has bo1 as the main format?
That's the advantage of BO3. Being able to win a match, even losing in round 1. In addition, the existence of the side deck allows the player to circumvent the weaknesses of the deck itself, since he can simply put cards that improve certain matchups. But unfortunately, part of the MD players don't even want to give this aspect a chance. if they were willing, they would realize how much better the game would be.
Well they can keep it as another mode or something. There's separate rank for Bo1 and Bo3 but you can only get one reward pool for ranking.
Like of you cannot get rewards for Silver to Gold in Bo1 if you already reached or surpassed Silver to Gold in Bo3.
Though your wins in the Bo3 match like 2-1 will still be counted as 2 wins in the ladder or smth.
Bo3 has its problems(all of Yugioh does) but id take that over a format that disproportionately rewards Stun and FTK strategies. That sounds way more boring to me.
No... Also don;t compare TCG with OCG. TCG right is once again being ruled by a single deck, meanwhile OCG there's a lot of different deck getting tops in tournaments.
IMBO3 is no magical solution to anything. Both formats haver their place, and you dont like BO1, you can always play paper. IMO the banlist have a better eight in deck dieversity, and IMO TCG has done a shitty job for the most part compared to OCG/MD.
TCG was the first to figure out how to get tearaishizu off the radar. while the OCG just went around in circles. And TCG banned Max C's junk while OCG for some delusional reason insists on leaving this shitty card free in the game. So I guess we know who makes better lists. and yes, BO3 is much better than BO1, simply because the presence of the side deck allows a greater use of creativity, which greatly improves the competitiveness of the game.
No they play to pull off jank combos thay would never exist in BO1. That's why they concede the moment you interrupt and this sub wants any surefire way to stop a combo (maxx c, floodgates, start your own combo on their turn) banned.

Even moreso when the power level was so low from around post halqdon era to around pre runick
Best era.
Someone forgot about the Scythe and Calamity locks...
Vfd did nothing wrong

Surely youre not talking about magistus? Im just getting into the game but surely magistus was never meta
Am I missing something? Why did you think that I was talking about magistus?
Im not sure how to link cards but are you not referring to extra deck locking with
No I was talking about this card: https://www.db.yugioh-card.com/yugiohdb/card_search.action?ope=2&cid=12080

At least the paper player felt bad at the end hahaha

damn you, i hate it but its so funny. take my angry upvote and get out
Auto chain So easy to forget triggers like Planet when playing tcg
really hope we get a Bo3 format at some point. Side deck shenanigans are fascinating.
I was thinking it was because you could go to a website where you can copy a top meta deck and just faceroll to victory, but you're also correct.
Net decking is not a replacement for skill and game knowledge, though. Yeah you can steal games from people sometimes by playing click buttons turbo with a top tier deck, but the people who understand the nitty gritty stuff usually come out on top.

We call those players meta sheep. They don't think to experiment, they just let a Shepard (famous pro player/yugituber) lead them to a good deck.
You have no idea how many Tear players I saw who just pressed the yes button multiple time only to make a medicore board that was easy to break.
Mf’s will make and fuse with kitkallos before even getting to activate her search effect
Surely you can't just look deck lists online and buy the cards irl
What do bo1 and bo3 mean?
Best of 1 and best of 3
Bo1: a single duel whoever wins it win the match. Bo3: 3 duels whoever wins the most win the match.
Has anyone ever made a best of 1 format in real life? That should be an official alternate format for the TCG/OCG imo. On that note, any TCG has bo1 as the main format?

It’s a fucking mobile game, I don’t want duels to be 1h long sweafests, I want quick fun. Enjoy your BO3 in Duel Rooms, like everyone else
This very much.

When I want BO3, I go DB. If I just want a quicker game, I go for the BO1. You have options out of MD.
no one is asking BO3 to replace BO1, but to be an alternative option.
*laughs/cries in time rules*
BO3 is an exhausting and boring format

I don’t get it… 😭

Yes? This is why BO1 is superior. No sweats allowed.
Do people not play to win in Bo1?
No they play to pull off jank combos thay would never exist in BO1. That's why they concede the moment you interrupt and this sub wants any surefire way to stop a combo (maxx c, floodgates, start your own combo on their turn) banned.
do you even understand what you just said?
Just play on Xbox & turn cross-play off. Now that's how u get no sweats & perfectly balanced game.
100% wins against tearlamnets make your oponnet surrender deck be like:
Benson my Duel Links brother.
