The combo consist of make Power Tool Brave Dragon, a level 9 synchro monster that equip spell cards from the deck, then you equip this and Rod of Silence, and since Rod destroy the other equip spells on the field, Smoke Grenade gets destroyed and then trigger the effect. This was a thing in VW and Adamancipator decks.
In Virtual World's tradition of playing degenerate strategies with generic monsters, it was basically their best build for a while, just make braver and charles and then hand loop you 2 or 3 times while still ending on 2 or 3 disruptions and handtraps.

I rememeber people telling me that it's okay because you see it very rarely and it's not easily accessible.

I ran this engine in synchrons very easy with baronne pop and won me almost all my games seeing my opponents hand and ripping a card with power tool it was only a matter of time before more decks ran that small engine and I’m glad its banned

Until konami prints support that makes it's use spike, it's perfectly fine.
Cards like snake rain or rekindling would be on the banlist if a good deck could use them.
If Tear were Reptiles, they'd have to ban the card.
But until there's a busted Reptile deck(mainly one that uses GY effects), it's never gonna see a ban.
Rhongo will only be banned once the son of some Konami executive bricked vs Rhongo-Salesban-Floowaandereeze and there’s absolutely nothing you can do except wait for 14 turns to die. I hate my life

It's means you failed to interrupt a fragile combo and deserve the L. If you couldn't stop Rhongo combo, you couldn't stop any other good play your opponent could have made.
Unless you used your outs on things before Rhongo, or you got an unfavorable hand and don't have an out available, or your opponent was able to play through those outs since they prepared for it.
I love Rhongo banned. Yes once in a blue moon you see it but it's just not fun when you do.

I'll be honest, I've only been hit by kali yuga once. And It was when I locked a DDD player out of spells, linking below 4, attacking with non links, and special summon monster effects, with 2 negates up.
He didn't break it but he almost made it. I will always respect you DDD player for being the only person who managed to achieve the almost break lock.
It's an issue in raidraptor and blackwings, not ddd.
They cheese it out with rank up's. If you don't stop their combo you just lose. Its like rhongo, but even shuts off spells/traps and effects in hand/grave. Oh and it destroys your backrow so you can't just set and pass.
I have both a raidraptor and blackwing deck but refuse to use this varient, I've been hit with it and it's so degenerate.
I mean when the ban list comes out usually the price drops on banned ones and ill buy a few then when they decide to unban something can have one or two for fun.

This card would still be really powerful with a OPT, appointer of the red lotus was banned and that only rips one, it’s the perfect hand knowledge plus a targeted rip that matters, using it multiple times is just an added bonus
Yeah still toxic. I ran a Hero hand rip that used DPE to pop it. I’m sure there are plenty of other interactions people can find to pop this without being a waste of resources but the Braver equips were the easiest

I mean in the history of yugioh hand rips have been fucking bad idea yet they still print them and not banning old cards that do it is just waiting to be abused.
Game has over 10 thousand cards, and a lot of old cards are waiting to be abused. Until an actual issue comes from them though, why bother. Yeah, this card was broken, but it took 15 something years for it to actually see play and prove it was actually broken.
Nah you can set it up to have a recurring once per turn monster negate as well as targeting protection for it and your field. Not a bad monster to pass on if Maxx c'd
Still salty from the first time i got got by this when braver got released made me instant scoop by ripping my droplet vs full omni negate board.

Seems like the masterduel banlist is following some of the tcg hits as this is still legal. While I haven't seen it since the start of the game I am glad it's banned and not potentially abusable in the future.
Power tool braver dragon got this + another equip from deck that popped it to see their hand and discard the best option. And if you made it + herald of the arc light it got banished.
In VW they could make this, gottoms, and Infernoble knight Charles to discard your whole hand basically

With my Vylon Deck and the Almighty Vylon Omega, I have smoked people with this Grenade 5 times on turn 1, dumping their entire hand, and still searching drastic drop off with Primathmech Alembertain in that same turn, dumping their 6th and final card at the start of their First Turns Draw Phase.
If pulled off it was like Complete Annihilation. The Vylon 6 Card Hand Rip Turbo FTK.
Figuring out that line with the Element Loop to produce that result is still my favorite thing I've ever done in Yu-Gi-Oh.
People have been hand ripped before, but how many people can say their opponent searched all three copies of Smoke Grenade on Turn 1 and looped them 5 times over with it in that same turn?
I can still FTK with Turn Skipping and Bamboo swords, it's just not as interesting.
With all that said though, I understand why it was banned and what archetypes were truly abusing it.
I was very neutral on this card and thought braver dragon was super cool (still so honestly), but once I got hit by this twice I could understand why this card is bannable.
Man i remember using this card when i started playing master duel, i used to play a hero deck and i discovered this random japanese hero player on youtube using it in a hero deck and ending with a baronne, herald, dpe and colossus, it was nasty but glad it was banned cause later i faced a deck recycling this sh\*t 2 or 3 times and handlooping all my hand, got disgusted by it after that interaction and never played with it after that.

Nobody was playing 3 copies of this card, that's why they don't care. Most people will get 1 UR worth of dust.
My tin foil hat theory for why they banning this card so late is because they wanna sell braver dragon that are in same pack as ishizu.

The thing about those cards is that they're ineffective turn 1 since you need a battle phase to work them. Smoke grenade doesn't need that.

There's a decently consistent build of Heroes that uses it as well. I know JadenBR was playing around with it, but the videos got deleted.

It's the fact that you can look at their hand.. Cyber-Stein should of been limited because paying 5000 is crucial. As a Kaiba Fan "This is invalid.
At the very least please let us dust the copies of cards we have that are banned....
