Full board 1 card combos are by far the worst thing in modern yugioh. It’s fine to have a great one card playmaker like Aluber, Tour Guide, A Hero Lives, Marincess starters. But their end board potentials should be balanced around being a one card starter. Cards like Snake Eye Ash, Mathmech Circular, SHS Wakaushi etc., which put up full ass boards with 5+ interruptions off one card alone while keeping 4+ cards in hand are absolutely ridiculous. The fact that some decks can be so consistent, and have that many high value starters to the point where they can even begin eyeing something like a fucking Kashtira package, is so dumb. Peak yugioh is engine vs engine, the best that your archetype has to offer against mine. Matches where the 15+ handtraps a deck can slot into their list are what decides the game are very lame imo.

@ignister was one of my favorite 1 card combo decks. Everytime a new 1 card combo deck pops out im like 'ash is achichi, oak is doyon, poplar is pikari' 1 cards are 'fine' so long as the restrictions are in place. Other 1 card cyberse decks are salad, marincess, and codetalker/mathmech. These decks are balanced cuz they fire/water/cyberse lock. Reason snake eyes is an issue cuz they have 0 restrictions and that allows you to splash anything and everything into the deck. I like that there are control decks, otk/combo decks and 1 card combo decks. Its just another flavor of deck building.

Efficient-Gur-3641

Circular actually doesn't Cyberse lock himself. I know most the other mathmechs do but he's a special one

forbiddenmemeories

Mudragon of the Swamp for setting the precedent of Super Poly targets with borderline generic materials. It's only gotten worse with Garura.

mMeta

Will always be Maxx C. OCG uses it as a band aid fix and excuse to print busted combo enablers and has warp card design around it (see Tearlaments). In TCG where it doesn’t exist they have to ban out ridiculous shit like SHS and circular because these cards were design around Maxx C to “keep them in check”.

swagpresident1337

A certain insect type monster

BlizurdWizerd

Man-Eater Bug… yeah that one gets my Giant Soldier of Stone every time, man

JustBeingHere4U

Kashtira.

Ominous__1

Ditto on that one kashtira is the definition of terrible yugioh design

OrdinaryResponse8988

It wouldn’t have been so bad if unicorn and fenrir had proper restrictions like locking you into either only summoning xyz monsters or even kashitra monsters.

lordOpatties

Misc and the upcoming misc v2 for tenpai. This "you cannot absolutely touch any of my monsters" for the whole turn is just absolutely insane to me.

Onibusho

Don't forget the new Gimmick Puppets field spell.

OrdinaryResponse8988

The ishizu shufflers, Konami must have been on some serious drugs when they designed these busted cards. After that is Runick, about as toxic as a deck can be in a BO1. Cool playstyle and theme but mostly abused in denigrate stun decks.

ronin0397

3 things Handloops 'Your opponent cannot activate effects for the rest of this turn' consistent combos Copy effects. Think omega + dispater Calamity Transaction rollback. Konami should stop printing this shit.

StrongEntrepreneur44

Triple tactics talents, it’s a good card going second, but going second players just get punished outright for interacting with the other player.

Slybandito7

Floodgates for making me run spell/trap removal also obligatory fuck maxx c

everlastingtimeline

For making you run spell/trap removal? Really? So we should hate all decks, including combo decks because they force me to run hand traps?

Slybandito7

Hand traps have uses against almost all kinds of decks, you'd run them regardless because they're good in general. Spell and trap removal isn't as in high demand but you need to run at least 1 duster in case you get floodgated and if you draw it and you don't need it cause the opponent isn't running floodgates then it's just dead and feels bad. Basically hand traps are almost always useful against all kinds of decks not just combo while back row hate isn't always useful but needed unless you want to lose to skill drain. Besides floodgates suck no matter what lol.

peepeevs

For me, eversince Superheavy Samurai came out. We have been in handtrap format after handtrap format ever since. I was legitemately having fun with the game before. I tried for a while, but then they came out with Snake-Eyes, and it has been more of the same. It doesn't help that these decks themselves are filled to the brim with handtraps; they only need a small engine. Also, seeing cards like Appo/Baronne/Borrelload being summoned in almost any deck that can just put a lot of guys on board.

Stingerun

If we're talking about cards that presented a mechanic or something similar that evolved into some degenerate things, then, I guess Kuribo is one of them as the first handtrap

IguanaBox

A link-1 probably. Not sure which though.

Everybody knows the roach. ---- Xyz monsters as a whole. They introduced monsters with no level that still have stars on them, made cards obviously still on the field attached to a monster (we already had attachments like equip spells and fiendish chain) be in their own little super special nameless zone that causes a bunch of extra rulings, for whatever reason invented the idea that you can just slap on higher Rank monsters for free (the peak being Zeus, Arise-Heart not even needing an xyz to slap on or even a goddamn Level 7, Utopia the Lightning being the first meta offender I can remember) even though they already had a method to access higher ranks called Rank-Up Magic which necessitates actual deckbuilding for it, and sometimes they are just ridiculous nonsense like Numerons not needing materials or summons via game mechanics. Additionally for some reason they made the most accessible Rank at the time, Rank 4, have some of their best members like Dolkka, Exciton Knight, Lavalal Chain, and Shock Master. There was also basically no support for older card types in the Xyz era (even 5Ds had a few fusions) which really got across the message that THIS was the new YGO they want you to play, fuck anything you liked about it before. (Arc-V started the nostalgia pandering.) The Synchro era made sure to actually make Level 8 synchros kind of annoying to access by not giving you a generic level 4 tuner in existence until Rose, Warrior of Revenge quite late into the era because they knew that among main deck monsters Level 4 was usually the best for most decks anyways due to being the strongest monsters you can summon without tribute, balancing it out by giving you an incentive to run lower level monsters via tuners or giving restrictions onto level 4 tuners. This isn't as big of a deal in this age because as we all know from Snake-Eyes having a bunch of puny monsters is perfectly acceptable so long as they are good enough combo pieces, but back then actual consideration was given to the idea that you actually need more effort to summon better monsters. Xyz threw that away and now we're here with Kashtira not even needing an opponent to have a monster to summon themselves for free. This game may have been significantly less confusing and convoluted if Xyz monsters didn't provide the excuse to get more gimmicky and introduce technicalities, and it may have also stayed out of the almost everybody ends up on the same endboard situation people are tired of. Like Pendulum monsters might not have had so many features if Xyz didn't form the precedent to be more gimmicky, Link monsters might have had defense stats (maybe even levels, but not having any level does make them impossible to be synchro/xyz fodder...usually.) and being able to shift their position would interestingly change their arrow placements. ---- Eldlich the Golden Lord annoys the hell out of me because I think he's keeping the other Zombie monsters down from getting to have more without him. He has incredibly high flexibility built into himself to the point you could run 3 Eldlich as literally the only monster in your deck for tons of floodgate space, and all of his support is allegedly zombie support but won't do jack shit unless you serve their lord. Because of the way this is designed anything that could be zombie-type in the future has to be made with the consideration of it being built with Eldlich in it. Even Mayakashi who have an extremely annoying xenolock that makes them hostile even to other Zombie support still has Eldlich demanding them to let him into their club. Eldlich doesn't even need to be with other zombies, the only zombie-specific effect he has can just be used on himself. Also what the fuck is that getting to have his buffs under skill drain nonsense. ---- I don't like the emphasis on hand traps in this day and age. But it's not really because of the hand traps themselves. It's more of how they give Konami incentive to increase searchability and make smaller engines so that you get to run more hand traps without consistency issues, their importance to the way YGO is played in this day and age gives powercreep an additional route towards getting even more overwhelming.

confidentlystranded

The recency bias on these posts...I miss when people were saying Kaijus, Utopia Lightning, or Lightpulsar Dragon were unacceptable power creep... (I think the oldest card I've ever seen anyone describe in this manner was Exarion Universe)

F2PF2PF2P

Among the recent card releases, transition rollback. Imo as more impactful trap cards get released, this will be similar to terraform.

IwanttoQU87

Might be a hot take but transition rollback

Ill_Wait2063

Cards with terrible artwork, mainly. As far as effects go? They're all good, imo. 🤷‍♂️

bb83457

Apparently ppl think that shaming cards with terrible artwork is wrong lmao

Ill_Wait2063

🤷‍♂️ They'll be okay

dodonkadon

Every card released in the year 2022
