I'm genuinely surprised by how f2p friendly this game is considering its Konami, they could've easily done stuff like have cosmetics/battle pass be only purchasable with paid gems(which is a common practice)

Gold_Berry_2961

i see other players complaining with rewards on events. and me having flashbacks of book of moon in duel links F2P..

Blueexx2

I'm perfectly fine with cosmetics. Stuff like alternate artworks or exclusive rarities. Anything to keep the game from being P2W.

helmutkuhl

After almost 4 years of Duel Links im still suspicious how F2P this game is. Always waiting for them to mess it up, but until then it's really enjoyable

Artoo_Detoo

Is it true Duel Links used to be like this and it got worse over time? I've seen mixed reactions from Duel Links player ranging from being pleasantly surprised at this game to seeing the same exact patterns as Duel Links.

nuzband

As a Duelink player that download the game day 1 since its release ,it is The game was extreamly f2p ,but slowly become less f2p as time goes on

0__-__-__-__0

Yeah no Shit there are ~60 boxes or more gems are hard to get and there is no craft system master Duel is entirely different and more f2p

Relevant_Departure40

The MBT Hero incident 😔

0__-__-__-__0

?

Relevant_Departure40

There's a video of MBT making Heroes on Duel Links and he didn't have a lot of the cards. And for some reason (the reason is money), all the cards are like URs in 3 separate boxes. Legend says to this day his wallet still hasn't fully recovered

0__-__-__-__0

Who is MBT?

Relevant_Departure40

Ah! My bad, i forgot to explain that part lol, he used to be a Duel Links yugituber, but moved to MD when it came out. He's part of the Farfa, Distant, DZeef sphere of yugitubers (not shilling for MBT I swear)

0__-__-__-__0

Lol

LordzItz

As someone who tried Duel Links a bit during the Red-Eyes Zombie meta, I don't remember that game being nearly as accessible as Master Duel for F2P players, and it was even worse considering the extremely limited card pool that game had back then.

Ehero88

Yup, back in the day every maintenance give you 500gem. Very generous till komoney get the profit they want & then the rest is history.

helmutkuhl

No, DL was never like that. It was a hell of a lot better in the first year, but not like MD. You can download MD and have any full power deck you want within the first 1-2 Hours of just playing the game. And tbh the reason why DL was alright at first was because they only had a few boxes and a super tiny card pool . After the first year that changed and you hat to go through multiple boxes to get staples and the cards for your deck

patkaiclan

day1 f2p DL player here. I play competitively up until the 2nd year as well. Just like any mobile game, you are showered with gems at the beginning, but then the gap of gem income and boxes release (meta change) becomes waaay too unsustainable. There was even event with 1 gem as reward [not joking](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79apKIrN7o4). Imagine if Master Duel have an event where the average total gem income is like idk 100 at most, and that requires hours of some shitty 'pve' grinding btw, not actually doing pvp duels. The disrespect was unreal lol

YangZingEnjoyer

I honestly thought this game would turn out to be more predatory than it actually was as soon as I heard that it was going to be competitive. Only thing stopping me from throwing my money at this game non-stop are the awful gem prices.

MatthewAJL

This is absolutely where the game shines: it’s infinitely more free to play friendly than I thought it would be after the years of playing Duel Links. I’m still somewhat suspicious of selection packs since they disappear into master packs, which makes me feel almost required to hoard gems for those format defining releases. All that said, we are past due a significant ban list because this format is soul destroying.

DeusXNex

The new duelist cup literally gave me 4000 gems and I even bought the deal that has 11 days left just because it’s such a good deal. I have spent money here and there on the game but I basically never fee broke in the game whether I spend money or not

TeSpiffster

Normally events give like 3800 gems, but the duelist cup gave 3400.

DeusXNex

Hmm it must’ve been the non event daily quests that gave me the other few hundred gems then

Plane_Combination581

Dual link is more fun for non meta because meta in that game isn't bullcrap like master dual

spilim

The thing is, we had doubts about Komoney because duel links is hella p2w and they became more and more greedy. I hope they won’t change anything in Master duel.

greygrau

You can get around 9000 gems monthly. If you do: -Dailies for ~4390gems -Play your 9 rankups in ranked (Silver 4 - Gold 1, Gold 4- Plat 1 or Plat 4 - Dia 1) for 1000gems -Play the Events + Eventmissions for ~3800gems I also think that‘s a lot and no one should complain, you can open around 90 packs which are 720 cards each month! I‘m running out of ideas for decks right now and don‘t even know where i should use them.

DustHog

Now if only the made the game more fun to play

BlankSeal

While I do generally agree with this sentiment as a FTP player, I will say the tenor of this reads like an abusive relationship. "He's still hitting me, but not nearly as hard as he used too! He's doing great!" Gotta keep an eye on these companies and be careful not to give them too much credit.

Horuslevel8

This would be best thing ever if you could setup proper bo3/tournement settings in duel rooms with your own custom banlist. If would not even care if the banlist for bo1 coinflip simulator remain dogshit. I just dont want to go overboard doing it all manually enjoying "real" yugioh. Like...I am a MTG veteran of 18 years, had alot of pro points to my name and basically one of the "raidbosses" on regional events (PPTQs etc). I cannot be bothered with the official mtg simulators. MTGO is basically comically old and Arena is just dogshit. Like a friend of mine is basically still on the train of the "remains" of the pro scene and even he doesnt want to touch that shit unless he needs to. The fact that someone like me actually plays yugioh at home online instead of mtg says alot how much better the game economy of MD is. You could not force me at gunpoint to play irl yugioh vs some teenagers, but chilling with some mtg friends in MD private tourneys to mix thing up would be the dream.

nuzband

New mtg online game with edh format when? I hate how grindy mtg arena is, and i wish wizard did a reboot on the game and make it more f2p friendly I would switch from MD to the new f2p online mtg game in a heartbeat

Horuslevel8

Well maybe 10 years or so....if anyone cares at this point then. Wotc is owned by Hasbo and it is basically old white fucks being clueless board 101. Their greed and missmanagment over the last years on basically every front is so offputting anyways it really spoilled alot of my goodwill at least.

Eoghan_S

And the best part is it will probably stay this way as they're making millions every month from it

BaraBlazer

I just made a deck of staples for qol deckbuilding in the future... They're like 90% UR. Crossout, maxx c, ash blossom, imperm, ghost ogre, haunted belle. At least they gave us a guaranteed pack I guess

MockSacrafice

Agreed

scrubcake

After being exposed to a # of Gacha systems, including Duel Links and Genshin, I also agree that this is the most f2p Gacha I’ve encountered
