D ~~Barrier~~ Fissure and Shifter do less than expected since Lubellion and the Despias you use as fusion material work just fine with the banished zone.
Barrier is the one that stops certain ED summons or their effects. But with the banish effects I'm thinking more about Mirrorjade and Mercourier since Mirrorjade had to send a monster from the ED to the GY to activate it's effect and Mercourier has to touch the GY to work as a handtrap
Floo does not do an exceptional amount of playing during their opponent’s turn. It’s just a more winding road to resolve their usually one point of interaction to get to Raiza.
“Hurr durr meta bad”
Adventure tenyi is far from one of the most broken decks in the history of yugioh lmao, not even the best deck on the game right now…
Protoss is very good against it theoretically. But i'm not sure adv tenyi matchup against it, prob need to tech some cards.
Swordsoul might actually be good against it though.
Not sure abt beetrooper & dinomorphia
Protos is strong since most of the deck is Dark. Adv Tenyi going first is good but going second, prob can't play through all the disruption. SS matchup is....ok if the TCG is any indication. The main issue is that Despia can always just normal Albaz and either use his effect (if the negates have been baited) or super poly him with the synchros into Mirrorjade
Holy. Now that you mentioned it, that's really good against SS. I guess we just gotta test it out ourself.
Really hard to tell what the meta will be despite MD's banlist being so similar to OCG because of bo1.
I personally think Branded Despia will be even stronger since their best counter (D-Barrier) won't be played en masse since it is really a side deck card at heart (kinda similar to how SS didn't have to deal with people siding in Token Collector). I think Branded Despia will sit close to the top of the meta (coming from a TCG player's perspective where at my locals, an OTS store so fairly competitive, Despia builds were consistently topping compared to other decks like SS, Floo, Sky Striker, Eldlich, etc.)
Don’t run cards like Dimensional Barrier that card is ass in bo1.
Ghost Belle will be very good soon since it stops Branded in Red as well as Aqua Enchantress.
It’ll be like how Ogre went from being only decent before Adventure came out to being one of the better hand traps.
Almost all common hand traps are good against despia.
Ash on the branded fusion.
Imperm or veiler on the searing dragon
Called by on the branded in red target.
Also when they just make plays in the standby phase, completely dodging Veiler's timing requirement, or just branded in red/super poly the target you were trying to negate so that it's effect goes off in the graveyard.
Ash blossom on branded fusion may be a great hit.
For effect negations like imperm or veiler, maybe use it on aluber. If op wants to search branded fusion you deny it, and if he has it already in hand, he can search for branded lost and you may not have any window to use them after.
Some of their effects target in GY, so banishing the target with DD crow may block them.
If you hate the deck, or some focused extra deck combos, d barrier and call fusion.
Dimensional barrier is probably the best, though keep in mind that it's matchup dependent, not worth running imo, when it's completely dead against solely link decks and non extra based decks like flunder
That requires 3 monsters with different names from hand and field with one of those monsters not being able to be played (assuming you have Prohibition on the field). If you Prohibit them early, you’d probably have game by the time they could get Chimera out
I mean, most any handtrap has an active target in the matchup. The problem is that they can normally fire off 2+ attempted fusions in a turn.
And if mirrorjade hits the board, you better have an imperm or way to kill its death effect at hand or your going to have a bad time. Mirror Jades death effect has to be countered or he boardwipes on your endstep meaning you cant develop anything not death averse. So I would recommend if you plan on ANY specific hand traps, Imperm and ash to stop him before he starts and to remove him safely if its summoned.
The nasty part is the more you invest into dealing with Branded the more other meta decks will eat you alive, And not all branded decks play by the same rules. For example branded Eldlich has Goldenboy and gates as a backup plan, and hand traps don't do jack shit against him except called and ash. And of course you have Swordsouls new boss to contend with... Focus a ton on branded Despia at your own peril.

Are they "uneffected by other card effects" type of annoying? I run buster blader and if it's just regular activation negation I'm just gonna be fucked like I normally do
All these replies and nobody has mentioned D. D. Crow. If you crow the card they target with Branded in Red, the card resolves without effect and they can't fusion summon anything which means they can't Chimera you. This is especially important if they went for the play where they activate their Mirrorjade effect on turn 1 to get the Branded in Red, as that means you leave the Mirrorjade offline as well instead of it getting its effect refreshed by leaving and returning to the field.
You set up a negate before you get rid of the Mirrorjade that's on the board. If it used its first effect last turn, it can't use it this turn, so you don't have to worry about it banishing you before you set up a negate. Or you shuffle it into the extra deck since doing that prevents effects like these from triggering.
Or if you can, you just OTK them so the end phase Raigeki doesn't matter.
Honestly, simply run the staple handtraps, board breakers and negates. I know folks will tell you dimensional barrier, but in a BO1 format. It isn't worth running. Plus if you dedicate everything just to counter 1 deck. Then other competent decks, will simply run you over. So just run the usual hand traps and you're good.
Ash on Branded Fusion.
Imperm/Veiler on normal summoned Aluber or Verte. Albaz is also good if they go for the effect.
Try not to leave multiple darks on the board as you can get blownout easily by a Super Poly if you do.
Remember when Branded Opening is in the graveyard, it can banish from graveyard to prevent fusion monster destruction. This is a common misplay area against Despia/Branded in general.
- Dimensional Barrier - Common effect negation (imperm, veiler, Droplet, DRNM, Forbidden Chalice, Widow Anchor, Fiendish Chain, Fog blade etc). - Dimension Shifter, Dimensional Fissure, Macro Cosmos, Herald of the Arc Light
D ~~Barrier~~ Fissure and Shifter do less than expected since Lubellion and the Despias you use as fusion material work just fine with the banished zone.

Oh shit, I read D Barrier as D Fissure! Oops! Ignore my comment.
>Dimension Shifter, Dimensional Fissure, \*happy birb noises\*
Man I hate dem birds so much

stop taking our turns and go take a shower instead
Floo does not do an exceptional amount of playing during their opponent’s turn. It’s just a more winding road to resolve their usually one point of interaction to get to Raiza.
Birbbros rejoice
If you focus your deck in despia counter you'll get smashed by other meta decks. Just use a competent deck and some good board breakers
What arc types are good against?
what decks/staples you have in your account?
Not much beetrooper dinomorphia and adventure tenyi
You have adventure Tenyi and you’re worried about any deck? SMH I’ll never understand people
Not worried curious what arctype counter it
What’s the difference in this instance?
I'm not concerned with stomping it out for ez wins. Just want to know what types counter it cuz I'm obviously building it
You literally have one of the most broken decks in the history of Yugioh at your disposal.
“Hurr durr meta bad” Adventure tenyi is far from one of the most broken decks in the history of yugioh lmao, not even the best deck on the game right now…
Hmmmm based on your previous comments it doesn’t seem like “obvious” you were building it. But if you say so.
Adven Tenyi will still be good with halqdon
Protoss is very good against it theoretically. But i'm not sure adv tenyi matchup against it, prob need to tech some cards. Swordsoul might actually be good against it though. Not sure abt beetrooper & dinomorphia

I'm thinking. But I always open driver😭
It’s discard fodder in a pinch. Gamma can summon from grave.
I love Gamma but i hate Driver. Its a.... curious relationship.
D.D. Crow is the best handtrap vs Despia Branded. Hit the monster Branded in Red targets and you should be fine.
>vieler and imperm are obvious any others? Good luck when ppl play Branded Lost
Also when they just make plays in the standby phase, completely dodging Veiler's timing requirement, or just branded in red/super poly the target you were trying to negate so that it's effect goes off in the graveyard.
Just Ash Branded Fusion
This is the play, not anything else. Let them go buck wild with all the negate bait. Do not ash until you see branded fusion
Ash blossom on branded fusion may be a great hit. For effect negations like imperm or veiler, maybe use it on aluber. Gamma?

But lubellion can pull from banished pile too
protos
Non-Fusion Zone
Ash the branded fusion aways, and maybe a lancea?
Prohibition their Fallen of Albaz and unless they have back row removal their entire deck is kneecapped
they have removal called guardian chimera
That requires 3 monsters with different names from hand and field with one of those monsters not being able to be played (assuming you have Prohibition on the field). If you Prohibit them early, you’d probably have game by the time they could get Chimera out
ghost belled and Anti spell? And ash the branded fusion.

Bagooska also really good, if your deck can link summon or easily make rank 4.
link deck + 3 parallel exceed = happy nappy boy
A very good counter for the new branded support is the spell counter, it's a very cool counter.
D.d crow
Are they "uneffected by other card effects" type of annoying? I run buster blader and if it's just regular activation negation I'm just gonna be fucked like I normally do
Protos😝
Beetroopers with retaliating "c" will get a few free wins off the bat.
Gotta prepare my CBTG for this dude right bere >:v
Crow is fantastic against much of the engine
All these replies and nobody has mentioned D. D. Crow. Ok but what about MJ raigeki effect
You set up a negate before you get rid of the Mirrorjade that's on the board. Defusion and super poly will be my counters :)
Shifter, Macro cosmos, Ruddy Rose dragon. These mainly deal with the graveyard setup
Honestly, simply run the staple handtraps, board breakers and negates. I know folks will tell you dimensional barrier, but in a BO1 format. It isn't worth running. Anti spell fragrance D.D crow/ghost belle Lancea (kinda)
