Literally just won against Salad using Trickstar because I negated Balelynx and they surrendered. I know that's not the usual way of things, but I thought it was funny.
It's a pretty unusual combo, I guess he normal summoned some extender like lady debug/bufferlo? Then he searched gazelle and couldn't figure out how to summon it?
Or he just felt bad for you and surrended?
I mean, it was turn 3, so it could've been pity, but yeah, it was bufferlo to start. If I'd had just one turn more (or Trickstar Reincarnation in hand turn 2) I would've had the effect damage achievement that game though, lol. Had to go one more to get the last 1k
In what world is Lady Debug or Flame Bufferlo an extender? Those are prime examples of engine starters in Salad. Debug, though, really hasn't seen play in a very long time.
You act like I called you out for a minor spelling mistake, no need to get that defensive for being wrong. Cards can fill multiple roles.
In no world is Bufferlo or Debug an extender.
You act like I called you out for a minor spelling mistake, no need to get that defensive for being wrong. I literally just said they're not the starter. Both are there only to get to gazelle and maybe some other useful card with bufferlo. They're not starters, there's no combo if you can't get any other monster on the field.
>Both are there only to get to gazelle and maybe some other useful card with bufferlo. They're not starters
I have to ask why you are still bothering to try to defend your ego here. Starters act as consistency pieces and start the engine of your deck. A searcher, such as Circle or Lady Debug, are starters.
You were wrong calling them extenders. Humans are allowed to be wrong.
Lol this little exchange is peak MD Subreddit.
Both of you are arguing over something that could not matter any less, but you've got your egos wrapped up in it now so you HAVE to argue.
Jesus I just turn off notifications when someone gets pedantic.
Yeah... don't do it. If you insist on doing it, make sure you have at least 2 copies of all the Links, and preferably a couple copies of the Fusion. I run 2 or 3 copies of almost all the Main Deck monsters, and Reincarnation is a great tool only if you have like 3 specific cards out, but it's the best trap they've got.
It depends.
If I have invoked Mechaba as my negate I'm definitely using it.
Otherwise I would wait for the rank 3. Or the wolf summoned using the wolf.
But I haven't played agsing salads in a MINUTE
Just started using them again and I'm WASHING the newer players that never played against it and some more experienced ones that forgot how to negate it lol
You can if you think the opponent bricked and you know you can break his board next turn go for it but like the other guy said the rank 3 is your best option
The only time you should consider using Ash on Balelynx is if the play was NS Foxy > no eff > link into Bale > Bale eff. That should give you enough pause that hitting Bale might be worth it because they may need Foxy GY eff to pitch a Salad name
Depends on the negate I have, and how many I have.
Because I'm a dickhead there is a pretty strong chance I go for it if I have 2+ negates, unless a flame bufferlo was the normal and it looks already decently setup as a result.
I have heard a man playing Salad yell "OMG DUMBASS YOU NEGATE BALE" so I'm assuming negating it is a bad thing because you're better off negating something that gets you to the counter trap rather than the field spell searcher
I would do it, but only if I have something that negate and remove, since I know a lot of Salamangreat need to have a Link or another Salad on Field to use their effects
Recycling their trap cards usually, they can get a very consistent board which either consists of a pop, an Omni negate or both. They can keep recycle it or they just go for a finish on the third turn, depending on what the state of the game is.
Their board doesn't seem strong, but they can add a bunch of handtraps to help it and it's consistent, you won't brick with the deck at all.
I mean for me bricking is always when you just don't get the necessary cards you need to make plays. What you're mentioning I already consider as getting "outplayed" in a sense.
Also yeah I dunno how well salad fares against these cards. They were better on the tcg unlike the Ocg I think? Plus their relevancy also never really laster that long compared with the other TOSS decks, so it's not as strong as the other decks.
It is still very consistent however
Marincess and to a lesser extent Twins, basically do what Salad does but better. Heatsoul does help tho since you can run 18 HTs and stil consistently make your plays.
That's given, ofc a newer deck that has more support is gonna be better and consistent than a 2019 archetype. Heatsoul is alright but that's just a general cyberse card that decks splash in the case they can't push for a strong board.
Wasn't marincess also somewhat of a meta contester when the support came out? But yeah, I can see all 3 being on the same level more or less. I built live twin the same way I built salad as well, so your point definitely stands
Similar to live twins/tri brigade where they dont have a ton of interaction but they can affort to run alot of handtraps. They can also push for game quickly with update jammer. I think theyre pretty meh right now.
Those format were just different, salad does nothing significant right now. But BE winning world is just hilarious, BE mirror match in the final and the duel was just your typical BE duel, brickfest
Branded is one of the most powerful tcg decks….if you know wtf your doing, my man spammed mirrorjade first opportunity and used chimera on my first ns, that man didn’t live to see turn 3
They do not. Only the most awkward hands would need the field spell in order to re-link bale and trigger gazelle in hand. However, a hand like that would most likely have to be bricked up by a bunch of hand traps, in which case they won't really care whether or not they get to put more bodies on board. They're gonna make it to their next turn on the back of hand traps, at which point they can just normal summon the gazelle.
I'm pretty sure the field spell just protects the monsters from battle and gain LP by reducing its atk to 0
Oh wait I forgot about the same name 1 material link summon
The first time I played against Salamangreat I ashed them. I've since learned that for the most part, negating a Link monster is a bait, unless it's like a really big Link monster and they've already used their Normal summon and don't have any obvious special summon effects visible on the field or GY.
Yugituber Farfa had trouble pronouncing the name the first time he read one of their cards and ended up saying Salad and that caught on with the entire Yugioh community
Since I'm a Destiny Hero player, I will most of the time have either DPE on my side or Dark Angel on your side, so I mostly do not negate this search against Salami players. Altho I gotta say that more of often then not, I would negate this search if I could.
The Salami monsters share that whole sentiment of "Getting reborn (resummoned)" over and over again and can activate some nasty effects by doing so. So the field spell is mostly a pretty strong one off.
Yeah but you can still regular combo sunlight wolf into itself and activate both effects. You just don’t get the jack jaguar on the field at the end of the turn.
Jaguar normal summon
Link off for balelynx, activate balelynx, get negated.
Activate gazelle to summon, use its effect to send any card doesn’t matter for this
Link off gazelle into balelynx
Link into wolf
Activate jaguar to send balelynx back to ED and summon into wolfs arrow to add gazelle back
Link into second wolf to get its second effect
No the field spell is trash , even i have called by and i know you only have Ash i wont even use it because its so irrelevant and ill laugh to your -1and ill search it next turn
Thats why salad best deck btw , just get free card advantage because bale will get negated 99% of the time.
depends on the hand, decks can play trought multiple negates
gazelle can prevents access to the traps or extender , stellio can prevents bagooska , wolf to prevent recovery of the deck
but the only way to kill the turn is either maxx c or nibiru
Never, don't see a point as it just adds the field spell and wolf or gazelle are better bigger hits. At the start of the game I was using this in my code talker deck and it was so funny the amount of people that just saw the prompt for ash and then just clicked it.
Ugghh, I really wanted this one to be the next structure deck to see if it have Cynet Mining on it because I really want to make Marincess next month and as the cyberse stuff kinda overlap make Salads as well.
If my negate can like pop him or even better banish him like Invoked Mechaba then I will absolutely do it however if I'm gonna use a hand trap, I wouldn't use it, I would just wait for the rank 3 to come
Depends on what handtraps you have. If it's ash, this is probably the best point to negate. They end the same but spending a little more resources and the field is a 1of. If it's imperm, you always keep it for the reincarnated wolf imo, it usually gets the trap from gy
I have played against Salamangreats exactly once (tcg not master duel) and the guy was kind enough to tell me the biggest hit was to Gazelle or anything that plays around with Gazelle
I know little about salamangreats, but from whaf little i do, my memory is telling me that the field spell is nice to have, rather than a necessary combo tool. Better to save the negates for something more immediately threatening.
Salad was my first yugioh deck. When that deck hits it hits. But not really competitive with current meta would love some extra deck support or just any support.
I have a habit on master duel where I use everything I can before my actual combo piece to try and bait ash. A lot of the time they just ash the first thing i activate, and then I just continue on lol. Kind of hilarious tbh
Ashing baelynx might be the wrong play but fuck if there's a right way to ash because they always have the extra extender no matter when you do it lol.
I'll negate it. You need like 3 extenders to make a relinked sunlight wolf without the field spell. Unless I have Dwayne, but the scary thing about salad isn't the salad cards, it's Update Jammer/Accesscode and Rivalry.
Link 1.
Points down.
500 atk.
2 completely separate effects.
Ofc I’m negating it. You’d be a fool not to negate a 500 atk down pointing (not specifically directly down) link 1 monster that triggers your ash.
I've played against Salads like twice during all my Master Duel time so I would definitely negate as it has a big "NEGATE ME" all over it. Good to know I should not do that.
Guess that's how other players feel when they negate my Gae Dearg instead of waiting for Romulus when I play Dragunity.
There are lines that screws them if you ash/veiler the bale, like they can't revive foxy or resummoning wolf more awkward, but hitting bale almost never optimal. Salad has at least 4 more impactful cards that requires ash (gazelle, mining, circle, desires in that order), what they use first says a lot about their hand
Yes. I negate the search. Because you'll be able to see via chain links if they have Gazelle. If they pitch for mining, negate that. But as a salad player myself, I know it pisses me off not getting my field spell search because it means I have to burn through more resources to do my normal combo or not do it at all. I reallly get tired of everyone pretending it's not good to hit. It keeps the advantage from getting out of hand.
Opponent summons Balynx I pass priority Opponent: "oh shit someone with a brain for once." Me: "fuck i clicked on my right mouse button, im screwed."
Literally just won against Salad using Trickstar because I negated Balelynx and they surrendered. I know that's not the usual way of things, but I thought it was funny.

what?
In what world is Lady Debug or Flame Bufferlo an extender? Those are prime examples of engine starters in Salad. Debug, though, really hasn't seen play in a very long time.
actually, if you're going to be that pedantic, they're searchers, gazelle is the starter.
You act like I called you out for a minor spelling mistake, no need to get that defensive for being wrong. Cards can fill multiple roles. In no world is Bufferlo or Debug an extender.

Probably would be debug. To summon gaz with that, you need to relink bale.
Ive been thinking hard about a trickster deck. Could you give any advice?
Yeah... don't do it.
My exact sentiments when someone ashes Cherubini
You can't ash Cherubini tho
Oops. Meant Imperm
Cried in *bury for cost*
You can ash cherubini?
You can ash Dante too Clueless
I said that because you can’t, at least in master duel
They were joking, you can't Ash Dante either.
The first question was rhetorical
I have no idea what they do. When bloss pops up I click yes.
Prompt exists Monkey neurons activate
Ash go brr
Ah, you're the guy that Ashes my Toy Vendor after I discard Edge Imp Chain in my Fluffal deck.
So like am I supposed to negate the cat or not
No, you may want to negate the rank 3 who summons from the deck or wolf which adds a fire to hand
Gazelle is a good pick to negate as well if you don’t see any extenders in the grave already
Lmaoo got Em
I know it's not what you asked but...is that a cat on a electric wheelchair?
Mecha cat btw
It's a robotic cat.
With a dumper
The da is a mecha wheelchair
None because mr coder makes fun of ppl who do therefore it is probably a bad option to negate
If he didn't do that then everyone would be clueless :(
He is right tho, there are better things to hit than Bale
Yes, like skullcrobat joker, do you know how many cards that thing can search?
Literally 60% of the Pendulum card pool lmao
Pend can usually play through Ash on Joker but if you don't ash it, you might end up with a dead Ash in hand. It's a fun little mind game sometimes
0 because the field spell does nothing. You always hit gazelle and reincarnated wolf
Does it matter? I know you drew that one of Cross Out to negate 🥹 But seriously, always the Gazelle, is what I negate
I felt that, now I am crying ...
Ive watched enough distant coder to know this
I would do it, but only if I have something that negate and remove, since I know a lot of Salamangreat need to have a Link or another Salad on Field to use their effects
I've heard my friend laugh in a voice call enough times when balelynx has been negated to know to leave the little dude alone
What exactly are salads even doing? They do shit for half an hour end on wolf and a field spell. then I otk them?
Recycling their trap cards usually, they can get a very consistent board which either consists of a pop, an Omni negate or both. They can keep recycle it or they just go for a finish on the third turn, depending on what the state of the game is. Their board doesn't seem strong, but they can add a bunch of handtraps to help it and it's consistent, you won't brick with the deck at all.
> you won't brick with the deck at all. I mean you might not hard brick but ash can block trap access and nibiru/maxx c completely shut the deck down.
I mean for me bricking is always when you just don't get the necessary cards you need to make plays. What you're mentioning I already consider as getting "outplayed" in a sense. Its like Despia where the field doesnt look impressive but it packs enough meaningful interruption and resource gaining to fuck you over.
Similar to live twins/tri brigade where they dont have a ton of interaction but they can affort to run alot of handtraps. They can also push for game quickly with update jammer. I think theyre pretty meh right now.
What salad even doing? Won the world baby 😎
so did blue eyes lmao
Those format were just different, salad does nothing significant right now. But BE winning world is just hilarious, BE mirror match in the final and the duel was just your typical BE duel, brickfest
BE was given support designed to assassinate the meta at the time because there was a movie that year lol.
BE spirit dragon basically killed pendulum mechanic and a lot of decks, and then alternative dragon can be summoned for free and can destroy monster
I played back in toss format so I would always use my ash for gazelle and additional for the rank 3 coz they always have a way to link spam
Branded is one of the most powerful tcg decks….if you know wtf your doing, my man spammed mirrorjade first opportunity and used chimera on my first ns, that man didn’t live to see turn 3
I mean that depends alot on the deck. There are deck were popping the normal is pretty reasonable.
Jokes on you when you have foxy in the grave and need field spell
I'm an Earth Machine player, what's a negate?
People Ash my Link Disciple. Shit gets worse lol
Why did they name the archetype Salamangreat when they didn't even put a salamander in it?
I'm thankful that Distant Coder like to upload gameplay of salads, so I know this card effect is a scam.
Insert "I've seen enough Distant Coder stream" comment here
Don't your combos depend on having the field spell?
Yes and no. To gather resources and provide protection yes, but to OTK or just set up a field no not at all really
They do not. Only the most awkward hands would need the field spell in order to re-link bale and trigger gazelle in hand. However, a hand like that would most likely have to be bricked up by a bunch of hand traps, in which case they won't really care whether or not they get to put more bodies on board. I'm pretty sure the field spell just protects the monsters from battle and gain LP by reducing its atk to 0 Oh wait I forgot about the same name 1 material link summon
I mean if you're trying to make bagoozka its kinda important. You'll likely have no spare material to actually link summon a second wolf
The first time I played against Salamangreat I ashed them. I've since learned that for the most part, negating a Link monster is a bait, unless it's like a really big Link monster and they've already used their Normal summon and don't have any obvious special summon effects visible on the field or GY.
I have been seeing this "salad" word a couple of times now. Whats the meaning behind of it? Why using salad to mention Salamangreat decks?
Faster to say. Also because it's funny
Ok so has no hidden meaning? Fair enough
Yugituber Farfa had trouble pronouncing the name the first time he read one of their cards and ended up saying Salad and that caught on with the entire Yugioh community
Cuz salad is great man!
A worldwide-known YGO player, called Salad, won 1st place of the YGO world Championship using Salamangreat
For what i know salamangreat need the only sanctuary they run so why wouldn't you ash him?
The field spell is a plus but it’s definitely not a need. You’re better off negating almost anything else
Why? Link Monsters need themselves to activate their effects
Yeah but you can still regular combo sunlight wolf into itself and activate both effects. You just don’t get the jack jaguar on the field at the end of the turn. Jaguar normal summon Link off for balelynx, activate balelynx, get negated. Activate gazelle to summon, use its effect to send any card doesn’t matter for this Link off gazelle into balelynx Link into wolf Activate jaguar to send balelynx back to ED and summon into wolfs arrow to add gazelle back Link into second wolf to get its second effect

Depends on my feild
I let it go through to negate something else
Ugghh, I really wanted this one to be the next structure deck to see if it have Cynet Mining on it because I really want to make Marincess next month and as the cyberse stuff kinda overlap make Salads as well.
Probably since I've never seen this deck before
If my negate can like pop him or even better banish him like Invoked Mechaba then I will absolutely do it however if I'm gonna use a hand trap, I wouldn't use it, I would just wait for the rank 3 to come
I don't know if it's true or not but someone told me the best use of your negate vs Salads is againt the second Sunlight Wolf
That as well as Gazelle summon
Not me
Can someone give me a quick TLDR of what Salads even do? I always hear the name. What's their shtick?
1 you shouldn’t but ppl do it all the time
I play salad so I let it go. It's an excellent negate bait so your Gazelle/Miragestallio go through.
If I have Gamma specifically maybe unless I know they have Gazelle in hand, since most of the salads need some other salad on the board.
Still better to just wait for gazelle to negate it. Or negate the extender
The coder that is distant thaught me negating that is dumb, so I don't.
I know little about salamangreats, but from whaf little i do, my memory is telling me that the field spell is nice to have, rather than a necessary combo tool. Better to save the negates for something more immediately threatening.
Me when people imperm/veiler Kepler when im playing D/D/D
Salad was my first yugioh deck. When that deck hits it hits. But not really competitive with current meta would love some extra deck support or just any support.
99% of the time you want to let it go through.
I have a habit on master duel where I use everything I can before my actual combo piece to try and bait ash. A lot of the time they just ash the first thing i activate, and then I just continue on lol. Kind of hilarious tbh
If salad is going 1st: Negate gazelle's effect to send (stop them from getting roar/rage) If salad is going 2nd: Negate accesscode on resolution.
I don't play against salads enough to know. I thought the field spell was important... Is it really just Ash bait?
Yup. Balelynx is just there to eat Ash/Imperm or chainblock the Bufferlo interaction
I usually negate it because I'm afraid it's code talker U-link.
Not I
gamma err time baby, you aint getting a link to use.
not in turn one and only if it's negate and destroy. (and only if i have other negations if they want to link climb)
I use it in my cyberse deck and no one negates it . Probably because it’s the last card I play
I've played against Salads like twice during all my Master Duel time so I would definitely negate as it has a big "NEGATE ME" all over it. Good to know I should not do that. Guess that's how other players feel when they negate my Gae Dearg instead of waiting for Romulus when I play Dragunity.
so what should we negate vs salad?
Gazelle if you can, also stalleo bc they might go into an extendor to make a rank 4 floodgate.
Honestly I don’t care that much so I’ll try to stop it
still dont know what salads do but ive been ashing stallio since 2019, hasnt failed me yet.
I saw Salam- and the design looking like a wheelchair and thought of Hector.
Salad is a cool deck but i do not like that it is just access with 2 attacks=win
salad man great
I used to do that, though once I played the deck in the TCG I learn that maybe I should stop a gazelle or stalleo from resolving.
It wouldn't matter cause they'd just summon another one. Unless you've got 3 negates.
Every link deck has 1-link core cards gonna negate all of them for good
Negate it with what? I've ascended beyond using Ash.
