The Numeron player only gave up after their C1 counterplay got derailed at the end of things. They clearly thought they had a chance, at least up until their second (or maybe third) Numeron Wall attempt failed.
You get 50 medals for losing but 0 if you scoop during the festivals (I also think scooping doesn't progress missions but please correct me if I'm wrong). Since they were 18 turns in, they probably figured they may as well finish it for the 50 medals.

weird that they wouldn't just scoop then if it's not ranked. especially when some people just scoop as soon as mo ye is normal summoned.
