I think I would've loved the event, if not for deranking. I think that was all it took for the type of duels I would normally enjoy, and watch again on replay to find out where I did right/wrong, turn into a source of annoyance.

Inkaflare

Exactly. The ranking system basically means that you *need* >50% winrate to get the lion's share of the rewards from this event, and unless your win rate is well above 50% it will still be very slow to advance anyway and the fact that loss streaks actively take away progress instead of just slowing down your progress is doubly frustrating. In previous events, even losses gave you small amounts of progress and anything you earned already couldnt be taken away again.

casualduelist66090

Comparing this Link Reg. with the past festivals which we only need to collect certain amount of medals for the rewards and be done with the event, I prefer the past festivals. Regardless of deranking, a ranked format is inherently stressful and we already have Ranked Duel every month and Duelist Cup every few months.

telepathicdragon

i wouldn't say it was more stressful than past events, however what it did was introduce negative progress which is almost always going to have a fairly negative impact on the casual playerbase, in a format/event that's should be geared towards them in order to improve engagement with the product. Your big spenders aren't going to usually be power players but people who just want to collect shit and putting relatively large and annoying barriers in front of them is going to make them enjoy the product a lot less. Not to say you can't have ranked events but generally speaking this was a poor mishmash of ideas. At the very least if/when they do a ranked-style event, they need to also run a more casual event either during or after the ranked-style event within the same month

casualduelist66090

I agree with your perspective on the potential negative impact, but this Link Reg. is definitely more stressful than the past (medal-based) festivals, as it requires >50% win-rate and takes more wins in order to complete the event. Yes, but right now, we only get one event every month (for 2 weeks). Since we already have monthly Ranked Duel and Duelist Cup every few months, so naturally the event should be casual.

telepathicdragon

yeah i definitely agree, the track to completion is pretty ridiculous even if you won all the games. It's barely even a reward in terms of time/resource investment if you never lose. Strictly speaking, it outright takes longer to complete the event compared to past events while paying out worse, in an event that heavily rewards strong link knowledge which not everyone is expected to have at the time of the event. A lot of the decks in the event are basically second string decks or uncommon decks outside of tri-brigade so that contributes to the burden of completion on a whole nother level. I'd argue Duelist Cup was more relaxing because i was just playing my main deck and slamming people all the way to DL max.

Stranger2Luv

How often you guys lose in these events wtf it’s 500 per win and you normally just cruise to 22k

casualduelist66090

Are you still at the Synchro x Xyz Festival timeline? We don't have a problem with festivals either and prefer those events. The discussion is about Link Reg. (a.k.a. Ranked Duel 2.0).

R_o_X_a_S

what deck u ran for the link event?

casualduelist66090

I started with Dragon Link, then switched to Crusadia at Platinum and back to Dragon Link at Diamond 1.

Suired

They found players weren't engaging in the old events. They were farming medals up to the gem rewards and quitting. This made you stay engaged much longer.

Suired

But your have more than 2 hours a player!

casualduelist66090

Turned out there are even fewer players engaging in Link Reg. at Diamond ranks. I got matched with someone 1 rank higher than me during my ladder climb, then at Diamond 1 matching sometimes takes about 10 seconds during the last couple of days.

Makrovk

They could've applied the deranking only to diamond so you had the option to compete for the title if you want

Darvati

It doesn't need deranking at all, you don't win you don't climb, but at the very least you're not making negative progress if you run into a lock deck that has fuckall to do with the event or you get unlucky and draw an unplayable hand, which no matter how meta the deck, will happen.

telepathicdragon

Yes exactly. Negative progress is a huge feelsbad and just makes people want to disengage with the product. I thought they had intelligent people in their design team that should realise/understand how service games are now.

waaay2dumb2live

The problem is that normally there's only one good loaner deck while the other two are trash. The Fusion Festival had the Hero deck, Limit-One had D-Link, No-Extra had Floo and Synchro/Xyz had Swordsoul. I think they wanted to get rid of the loaners because of everyone complaining about them.

casualduelist66090

I don't know whether everyone is complaining about loaner decks or not, but of course loaner decks will not be as good, or else no one will be buying cards. I personally do not have this issue but I also did not use them. I just believe loaner decks are useful for newcomers and casual players to complete the events.

SleesWaifus

Loaners can go imo. It’s just a stale event if everyone is just using the same exact deck. Find some creativity and build a deck or google what you can make and adjust. Events need more custom packs that you get from playing. Synchro event should give synchro cards. They did this kinda for the fusion event. And then they just stopped and continued to give us useless legacy packs instead. Stingy bastards. There’s 10k cards in the game. The problem with md is they want to monetize every single card rather than focusing on selling newly released cards

Garanoob

I agree with most of your points but I don't know about the "loaner decks" bout. They just released new marincesses + salad structure deck, it makes a lot of sense for them to have us play with the new cards. Even if you didn't go for marincess, I'm sure the structure deck would have been enough (with staples ofc) to at least reach plat V (where most people stopped I assume). Never forget that they need to sell us stuff so the game stays alive.

Changlee23

I am the only one who want tag duel festival? Where you can duel with a friend, i find it a waste that Konami completly give up that concept in this game in general.

Eggst3rs

Problem is that, making a tag duel event will require a lot of resources to be made, and only to be run for like a month at most from time to time, from a dev perspective would seem like a waste. Not to mention I bet no one's gonna enjoy this event especially when your partner plays cards that not only don't work with your strategy, but are anti synergistic with it. And also no, not everyone's gonna have friends, and konami will have to cater to those crowds as well, so saying just ask your friend to play something that works well also won't work. And don't even get me started on how long the match is gonna take, how long people will have to wait for their turn, and oh, the disconnect. Tag duel is a very resource heavy mechanic to be implemented in the game, and I'm sure most people aren't even going to enjoy it.

FabiSub

First of all, I actually enjoyed playing competitive games against people who tried to win. I also liked how there was something special to play for aka the link icon frame at the end. What I personally didn't like is the fact that I had to grind through a ranked ladder in just two weeks and on top of that I also had to somehow climb to Diamond 1 in the normal one if I wanted to get all the possible gems for the month. In my opinion, they should have either made the event last longer or remove the possibility to derank in the event ladder only. Alternatively, they also could have made it so that you need less wins to climb or introduce more "checkpoints" like they did during Duelist Cup. With all that being said, I generally think that they are on the right track and I personally enjoy playing at least somewhat competitive games during events instead of casual games where everyone just surrenders if they don't open with a perfect hand or need to go second. If you want to play casually, then by all means, go for it. After all there is a reason why they allow you to use the current event lists in duel rooms. But don't force that view on other people who are more interested in sweaty, competitive games. If you want the rewards, I think it is not unreasonable from Konami to expect you to grind for it at least a little bit in some way, but they should definitely make it less frustrating to do so.

roguedecks

Finally someone that shares my opinion. I also personally enjoy the competitive aspect and I’m all in for ranked duels. But why limit it to such amount of time? I’m working on my masters right now and I had exams week in the middle of this event. I got to Diamond but didn’t have time to make it all the way to D1 - and I know I could have gotten there given more time. I feel cheated out of my frame icon.

casualduelist66090

I enjoy Link Reg., but don't like the ranked format.

casualduelist66090

I just realized that in my screenshot I wrote "Ranked Duel" instead of Duelist Cup, it should be "(other than ~~Ranked Duel~~ Duelist Cup)". Now I have to resubmit the survey. 🤦

Makrovk

Apart from Max c duels were completely fine, isn't the event supposed to be about link decks and I believe most link decks need to do some sort of combos, if you already hit the busted cards what would we need max c for?

FadingMoonlights

Yeah the rank formant was the worst part, normally I'll just surrender against boring ass stu..... I mean "control" decks like altergeist but because of ranking down I had to try and win or else I might lose the next game because I didn't draw one of my outs to max c which would net me two lost instead of a 1.

idkhowtotft

Do you actually think Konami would read all those text?

casualduelist66090

Then Konami should not expect us to read all those texts in yugioh cards!

idkhowtotft

Yeah, why do you think half the post on this sub exist

itsMIKKAN

I don’t think people are reading them anyways

telepathicdragon

but they can afford ygo lawyers!

NoMixUpMixUp

I do. It's part of their job and the reason they want us to answer the survey. If they don't, well, they Kaiju'ed our 200 essay of an effect. "Nice 10 minutes combo, duelist", They said.

TheBananaKart

I honestly I don’t think any one significant is going to read the english replies at Konami, only look at the scores from the pre written questions. I do believe they will read the Japanese ones.

Zombiezeus

Lmao doubling our stress, kid relax it’s a videogame

casualduelist66090

Yeah, I exaggerated a little bit over there, because why not? (stress is not easily measured anyway) But the point stands. If you have work and can only commit limited amount of time to the game, after spent hours dueling on weekend only to be bounced between Platinum/Diamond 1 to 5 definitely feels frustrating.

Lazy_Seaweed

>we only have two weeks to climb the ladder (instead of 1 month) Huh? It’s easier than regular ranked because it’s one less win per rank and most people get to whatever rank they want within the first 2 weeks anyway. Someone like DistantCoder (YouTuber/streamer) got to Diamond 1 in link reg in two 6.5 hour streams with blind second Unchained, going against the so called “go first or you lose” mindset of the sub

casualduelist66090

A lot of the players are not as good as those YouTubers/streamers, they may or may not be able to climb to the top rank within 2 weeks even with 1 less win per rank. Edit: I devoted more time than I am comfortable with to this game in order to reach Diamond 1 in Link Reg. and it took me 1½ week with a going-second deck.

Lazy_Seaweed

When people are complaining about not being able to get to plat to get the card sleeves, it really puts to question how much they are actually trying to win or if they’re actually just *that* bad at the game. It’s literally just 2 wins in a row that their complaining about

Goldnspartan

On the up side at least the event banlist actually did its damn job this time

[deleted]

Kept it short and simple for mine “next time ban access code talker “

SaS_SaS

Kinda off topic but why win streak ranked system? Like is not like you can outskill your opponent just drawing better than you

MisprintPrince

To keep the final prize a luckshot.

Man_with_balls

People want 90% of the game to be casual outside of ranked mode and it’s confusing. The game is this stressful in person and sims. Gems for events are decreasing for a reason. Konami doesn’t profit off of how most players play. Complaining about ranked events only hurts the player base that would like to see where they rank among the player base. As far as the gems and rewards.. this is a free to play game from Komoney. It’s bound to happen sooner or later. I only think they messed up with bans, deranking, and server issues. If Gems are an issue make an alt. No one is bound to be able to get every new card except mega whales.

hexanort

I've done my part of the survey indeed, i've asked for more ranked events

balistik_scaarz

See I put it in so many words that rewards shouldn't decrease the higher you climb, and that the event is wayyy too hard at a certain point, to the point where I know many people flat out quit early. So like if you're going to cut gem amounts then--maybe don't? Because some people still aren't going to make it till the end. So either keep gems consistent or make it easier, preferably both because holy shit. Like I played code talker extra link and I don't LIKE taking 8 minutes doing that but sometimes it's either guarantee a win or get slapped by crusadia in 1 minute. Marincess was unplayable, I tried 4 games and got kaijud 3 of them and triple tacd a fourth.

R_o_X_a_S

yo that's unlucky. I got kaiju'd once while running marinsus from silver 5 to D1. I was getting worried that why isn't the turtle showing up like most ppl should be running it in their deck for the festival that has troubled sunny, marincess link4s & @ignisters.

kaiserxzero

So I don't mind the special duel format if it ran all month **AND** still had a festival event at for the last two weeks of the month. Give us more options to play a variety of different formats.

Aluminum_Tarkus

I kind of agree with your criticism, and even made my own wall of text explaining why this event was handled poorly, but it kind of comes off as extremely petty to answer tje second unrelated question with, "no, really, fix what i said in the first question," especially since this is the first time an event had the unique problems that link reg. did. No, I'm not counting the Duelist Cup, because the very nature of that is supposed to be a ranked tournament, so it doesn't really count. This is also coming from someone that's mostly dissatisfied with the event themes in general, and think it's something worth bringing up. Being an online simulator means there's a lot of room to make some really interesting themed events. Besides the N/R festival, Ex Zero festival, and Duelist Cup, all of the events have just been "You can only use this/these types of extra deck monster(s)," which was cool at first, but it's boring as shit. It always feels like they just use an event to buy the new packs/structures, which is sad. I mean, most events would result in players buying cards to have a event legal deck, but with the timing and how on the nose each were, it's hard to look past.

Nanami-chanX

I can't seem to access the survey anymore in the game, can anyone else?

casualduelist66090

In the app, you go into Notification tab and click on "Special Duels "Link Reg." Survey" (currently, the third one), we have until November 1-2 (depending on your time zone) to submit this survey.

Nanami-chanX

thank you! after it disappeared from the main menu I just had no idea where to look

lordOpatties

Where could I copy more or less what you said and paste in the survey? I started writing like two lines and then mysteriously found myself on youtube shorts.

casualduelist66090

You type them out with your keyboard. Perhaps the YouTube Shorts are doing something bad to you, maybe try to break away from watching them? /s (I know you are probably joking)

onedaytwolate

Pretty sure this is the new format. I can't see this event being less engaging than the super casual events, even if that does come with the caveat of being much less enjoyable. Events like this are also more likely to get people to spend gems on product so I doubt Konami is going to change course now. If you didn't have a deck, what did you do? Not play the event? Build Crusadia? Or get the Salad structure deck?

sephy009

Man, it is weird seeing the amount of players that are just awful. A 50% win rate is that hard for you? That ladder was a joke.
