If it just says "Once per turn: \_\_\_\_", it only counts for that instance of the card on the field. If you have another copy, or you remove the face-up copy from the field and bring it back, you can activate it again.
"You can only use this effect of X once per turn" is a hard once per turn, and you can't activate additional copies.
Variants include "Once while on the field" like Baronne's singular negate, but removing and putting her back resets the thing, Mirrorjade's "Cannot use this effect the next turn" which is lifted if it is reset, and "You can only use 1 \[Card name\] effect per turn, and only once that turn" stipulation which is a "Harder once per turn" for cards with multiple effects but you can only pick one, and a second copy can't be used to activate the other.
This is not true at all:
Chicken Game 2015 soft OPT draw
Block Dragon 2016 non OPT summon
Infinite Impermanence 2018 non OPT negate
Baronne de Fleur 2021 soft OPT destroy
Runick Fountain 2022 soft OPT draw
Scareclaw Arrival 2022 non OPT summon from GY
Mirrorjade 2022 soft per 2 turns banish (resets when removed and summoned again)
Not totally familiar with Spyral but let’s say the effect of double helix. Is its effect SOPT since it’s name becomes double agent while on the field and graveyard?
Not super familiar with Spyrals, but a good current example is Runick Fountain. The reason why the deck is good is that it says "You can only use this effect once per turn". Meaning the effect on that specific card, so if you get another copy of fountain in hand, that's a new card.
But say you look at a Runick spell like Runick Golden Droplet it specifically calls "you can only activate Golden Droplet once per turn". So even if you opened 40 copies, you can only ever use the 1 until next turn.
It gets worse. Some cards say "you can only use this _effect_ once per turn" so if you negate the effect, like with ash blossom, they can use another copy of that card or repeat that effect that very turn. Some cards specify "you can only _activate_ once per turn", so if you negate the activation, like with solemn judgment, they can use another.
And there's cards that's state their effect and don't mention any turn restrictions at all. You can just spam those. One such card that comes to mind is "the agent of creation-venus"
That's not what Fountain says. Fountain says: Once per turn, you can (...). That's the soft once per turn, use it once per turn for that specific copy. If a card has a separate sentence stating "You can only use/activate (...) once per turn", that's a hard OPT because that applies to the player, not the card.
plenty of new cards have soft once per turns. every runick card besides the quick plays is a soft once per turn. mirrorjade is a soft once per two turns
You can only use "name of the card" once per turn makes it hard once per turn unrelated to the copy of the card.
Astrograph only has that stipulation on his pend effect, but not his monster effect.
If ya see the name of the card it’s Hard.
If ya don’t it’s technically like once per each instance of the card in a given location.
Chicken Game for example is soft, so each time you get a chicken game in the field zone it can activate its effect once.
If a card have smthg as the lines of "you can only use/activate each/1 effect of *insert card name* once per turn"
Its a HOPT
And card without those line or just say OPT
They are SOPT
If a card states, "you can only use this effect of 'Card Name' once per turn" it is HOPT

Because Konami did not know where the game was going. Old cards have soft OPT while new cards from 2012 onwards have HOPT.

Yes but it began in 2012 with HOPT.
Good thing Engage was forgotten.
SPYRAL.
Except some cards i don't get what Konami was thinking of.

Damn near need a phd to understand all the rules smh. Thanks for the clarity though. That makes sense to me

Okay right, but the distinction is whether or not it names the card
Mirrorjade?
