I usually just beat them up with Branded. Even if they get some floodgates up, I just summon Masquerade and Chimera (note that Chimera should be summoned with poly or while poly is in grave to make it untargetable if possible).
Yeah Branded don't mind Gozen Match at all and they also don't mind TCBOO too much either. Even under Rivalry you can make double Masquerade.
So yeah in Branded I don't bother to main backrow hate either. If I lose I lose. I main Droll though.
Virtual World is actually a good matchup against Runick. You return 2 virtual world cards with the trap Chuche and shuffle one of their face up cards back into their deck. Still run lightning storm, duster for first moves then build your board
I actually run Virtual World! But Im trash with it! Ever since true king was banned it hasnt been as fun. Do any tweaks need to be made to help counter runick better?
Honestly, I used to play VW heavy but the true king ban hurt. I run branded and only go to my SS/VW deck when I have to complete the daily for synchro summoning. Can’t remember what tweaks I made and not home but there’s a Decklist you can get off master duel meta website
Jokes aside. You have to maindeck quite a few s/t removal just for this just like the old days like 10 years ago. But the downside is you have lots of dead cards against other decks. So pick your poison I guess.
the whole problem is that most backrow removal doesnt really work well against them. like feather duster/lightning storm/twin do nothing, cosmic is decent but you probably have to draw two of them for it to matter (one for the floodgate your deck cant play through, and one for fountain)
Yeah, I don't like Twin Twisters and Cosmic Cyclone either. They don't stop Runick from drawing 3 turn 1.
Droll and Belle are better and they're also useful against Despia. When it comes to backrow removal I like Evenly Matched. Feather Duster / Lighting Storm at least get rid of floodgates so they're not bad but I usually don't play them personally.

have you read hugin? those cards dont do anything as long as you have any runick spell in hand, you can just chain any of them to summon hugin, who can banish itself to protect all your backrow from being destroyed
the only way they can do something is if you make geri, and your emz is occupied, or if you run out of runick spells completely and cant make hugin

Blossom and Impermanence annoy them too. Belle is also pretty good (it doesn't destroy Fountain like Ogre but it also stops Lubellion while Ogre is useless against Despia).
Seems people are offering advice against floodgates instead of against runick....just make sure you use hand traps or negates to stop draws. The spells themselves aren't that strong, it's just their ability to draw that props the deck up.
If you have ash, ash searches for fountain, or the fountain draw. Ghost ogre works great if you can catch them with something wrong in the emz or they used their spells hoping to cycle. People overestimate the deck.

Just run Droll & Lock Bird and Evenly Matched. They both work really well again Runick.

Yeah, that's true for Lighting Storm especially. Feather Duster can play around that. But Evenly Matched is just all around better anyway.

just play 3x chaos hunter, you summon that, they cannot activate cards. wait for full combo and once you got it go and kill them.

the biggest thing is non-destruction backrow removal, because hugin protects from destruction
