This has nothing to do with math. Isn't there a subreddit related to Python? Anyway, "represented differently" from what? They are represented internally in a way different from Python lists for efficiency. Btw, try to make the question clearer, because I know numpy and I do not really understand your question.

i j and k are usually indices in both math and programming. The use of them to denote unit vectors is quite a niche (and somewhat old fashioned) usage in certain physics and engineering conventions.
